The Screen Door Inn is located in downtown Clifton, Texas. Six of the seven guest rooms are on the second floor of the historic Brooks Block (or Brooks Building). The building, purchased through two transactions by J.M. Brooks in 1895 and 1898 was completely destroyed in the fire of 1906 that leveled much of downtown Clifton. Immediately rebuilt after the fire, the second floor served multiple uses over the next five decades, including boarding house, hotel, apartments, doctor’s offices, beauty shop, radio service and more. Following complete renovation in 2011, the inn is the first business to occupy the upstairs floor in over 50 years. The corner room (now called “Bosque” room) was the office of dentist P.F. Gould both before and after the fire. The restored claw-foot tub in “Bosque” was found in the single bathroom once serving ten guest rooms. The wooden sign of Dr. O.M. Olson, who died in 1935, was found in the rafters during renovation. The Lobby and several guest rooms feature headboards, tables and benches crafted by local artisans from doors and wood salvaged during renovation. Breakfast will be served downstairs in Somethin’s Brewing. This is the sight of the old Corner Pharmacy, which served Clifton under many different names from the late 1800’s through the 1960’s. Many of its historic features have been retained including the soda fountain, Italian marble bar, bar stools and stained glass bar back.

Celebrating our 3rd Anniversary in Clifton at the Screen Door Inn

5 on February 18, 2013

We stayed in Jennie's Garden Room and it was wonderful! So clean and inviting. Coffee was available in room to start our morning, then a delicious breakfast downstairs. Clifton is a hidden treasure... the walk-in movie theater, RCW, museum, Mitchell's grille. Looking forward to my next over night stay!

Loving the amenities of the Screen Door Inn

5 on February 14, 2013

My husband & I joined 5 other couples including my sister & her husband for the celebration of the anniversary. We started at the Red Caboose Winery with the live band and then went to Mitchell's Grille and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Then we walked back to our Inn. We went upstairs to the game room and talked till 1 AM. The next morning we woke to the smell of breakfast being prepared. The room was awesome, we stayed in the Lone Star Room. You can tell much time was put into the efforts of this beautiful Inn, including the Keurig Coffeemaker, and of course the WIFI and the explanation of all the surrounding events taking place were very appreciated. I look forward to going back real soon. Thank you so much for your Hospitality. We had so much fun, and rested well in our Lone Star Room.

Very Enjoyable Mini Vacation

Exceptional: rooms, hospitality by innkeeper, breakfast & overall service. A quaint B&B in a quaint town in central Texas.

Great weekend getaway!

The Screen Door Inn is a perfect weekend getaway destination. We enjoyed staying in historic downtown and visiting great restaurants, shops, and the "small town" movie theater!

Amazing and Restful stay at the Screen Door Inn!

5 on May 17, 2012

This B&B was amazing! It was peaceful, quaint, historical, and best of all, we felt as if we were visiting friends! My husband and I have now stayed at the Screen Door Inn on two separate occasions and plan to stay again-hopefully soon! The breakfast downstairs in what was once the old pharmacy was delicious! We also LOVED the Cliftex Theatre right across the street! We had read that it was Texas' Oldest continuously running theatre-what a delight! How wonderful to have two Texas treasures right near each other! Thanks Screen Door Inn!
