Review Newbury House At Historic Rugby, Rugby, TN

    Photo Album

The guests parlor at Newbury is a favorite place to relax and read. In winter the fireplace with its original mantel is a good gathering spot for a game of scrabble. All the wood trim throughout Newbury is painted its original colors.Lodgers enjoy an upstairs suite at Percy Cottage, historically reconstructed on its original foundation in 1976, complete with sawn shingle wood roof.
Three-bedroom Pioneer Cottage was built in 1880, literally the first building on the new Rugby townsite. Guests enjoy the verandah and small screened back porch. It's hand-planed poplar walls whisper tales of early Rugby colonists.Newbury House welcomed guests from 1880 into the 1930s. This 1892 picture shows a group of lodgers perhaps getting ready to take a stroll down to the Clear Fork River before dinner. Some feel an unusually strong sense of past residents of this historic place.
