Heerlijk.

Liam's Suan Dok Mai was more than just a great B&B for a great value. My boyfriend and I spent 5 nights with Daphne, the Belgium owner, in January while we were backpacking through Thailand and we are likely to judge every hotel we stay in from here on out against Liam's Suan Dok Mai. We had just left Bangkok and went to Chang Mai looking for the antithesis of Bangkok: calm, tranquil, relaxing. We found it at Liam's. Our room overlooked the beautiful mountains and had the archetypal palm tree standing solo in the field below. It made for some beauttiffullll sunset pictures. The quaint size of the hotel made for the perfect environment to meet some unforgettable people; including Liam, her son for which the B&B is named after. The pet-friendly nature of the hotel was perfect for us because we were just starting to Jones for our Rottweiler at home. We arrived late one night, after the kitchen had closed, but the amazing staff was kind enough to make us food. Daphne's dedication to her business and family-- a difficult balance for most-- was immediately apparent from the moment we met her. She let us borrow her motorbike to zip around Chang Mai, she suggested the In Flight zip line tour, which had us in stitches laughing the whole time as we flew hundreds of feet in the jungle's canopy. Our most memorable experience of our month long journey was a two-day Mahout (Elephant Trainer) training at Baan Chang, suggested by Daphne. She even helped us map out the rest of our trip If you're looking for the REAL Chang Mai experience you can find it at Liam's Suan Dok Mai. Mingle with the locals, expats and travelers alike under the tranquil setting of good food, good friends and a good quality bed to lie down in at night.

My wife and I have been to Chiang Mai many times and we can say that this is hands down the best place we have stayed when visiting. It is located a bit outside the city center, so it is perfect if you want to explore Chiang Mai but also have some rest and quiet if you feel like it. The rooms were very nice and clean, the food in the restaurant was awesome (the lady who owns the guest house cooks the meals herself), the swimming pool was extremely relaxing. Also, the guesthouse offers free bicycles which I think is perfect to explore the surroundings and get to the city center in no time. The crowd staying at the guest house was very eclectic (couples, families with kids, travelers with pets, single people), which made it all the best and provided a nice environment for the guests to mingle. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be going back when in Chiang Mai.
