Enjoyed the stay

4.2 on June 16, 2014

Great location and friendly owners, so sad to hear that they will be closing down this summer. I would have loved to stay again in the future. All the rooms were awesome, love the fact that they designed everything down to smallest detail as to make each room unique.

Lost Count...

I have stayed here so many times I have lost count. Every time is a treat. Ron and Prudence are so very nice and accommodating. Ron is an Excellent cook and I highly recommend staying here. Very short distance to downtown and the Zoo. It is in a quiet area and is a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of DT SA.

We love the Ruckman Haus!

The food is wonderful, and Ron & Prudence are extremely nice and welcoming people. We recommend this place 100% & we'd love to stay there again!

sisters get away

4.8 on May 26, 2014

My sisters and sister-in-law joined me at the Ruckman Haus. I had stayed there before and recommended it to the others. The owners are so helpful and pleasant. The food is plentiful and delicious. We had such a wonderful weekend together and the rooms just added to the memories of the trip. I will miss staying there on future trips to SA after they stop being a B&B, but they deserve a quiet retirement. Thanks for your hospitality.

A great week in San Antonio

5 on May 13, 2014

We had a wonderful time in SA and much of it was due to Prudence and Ron, great innkeepers at the Ruckman Haus B&B. They sent us on our way each day with a delicious, filling breakfast and lots of great recommendations of what to see and do. The B&B is conveniently located just a couple of miles north of downtown and a few miles south of Brackenridge Park so it was easy and quick to get to everything. We even walked to dinner one night.

Outstanding place to stay!!

5 on May 07, 2014

Located near the Pearl Brewery where you can catch a river taxi down to the river walk. This place was all around fantastic. Room was very nice with a large comfotable bed and a homey feel, large deck attached with rocking chairs, and complimentary movies to watch. Downstairs kitchen was large with everything you need and complimentary beverages including beer & wine. Breakfast was delicious and prepared when we wanted it, not at a set time. I recommend this to anyone staying in the San Antonio Area!

Relaxing Rooms and Delicious Food

5 on April 15, 2014

This is the place to stay in San Antonio! Comfortable beds, clean room, quiet area, walking distance to the River Walk, and a very friendly atmosphere. I would come back to Texas just to stay at the Ruckman Haus again. I loved it!!

You will be pleased

4.8 on April 03, 2014

On site gated parking. Three porches, two on second story for relaxation and reading. Very nice garden and outdoor eating area. Good breakfast with lots of fruit.

Wouldn't stay anywhere else id in San Antinio

5 on March 26, 2014

my facebook post made while I was there: Sitting on the veranda of on old Texas home in a overstuffed willow and wood chair (the ones that look homemade) with a calico cat curled up at my feet. Listening to the birds and waiting for the sunset while a gentle occasion breeze plays the wind chimes. The yard is simply spectacular with pots of ivy and blooming pansies, violets, geraniums everywhere. Old brick walkways and stain glass windows ivy covered pillars-- wish you were here

Best B&B in my Experience

5 on March 19, 2014

Every detail has been considered and addressed. The rooms and common areas (porches, living room, patio) are beautifully decorated and comfortable. Rooms have their own refrigerators stocked with water and his/her comfy robes. Guests have access to tea, coffee, wine, and beer at all times. Cars are parked in a secure, gated area. Prudence and Ron know the area well and are very helpful with directions and recommendations. Delicious breakfasts complete the experience.

Ruckman Haus is the perfect getaway

we had a wonderful time during our weekend stay.It was really nice feeling so special . will Definitely return .

A Complete Diamond of a Place

5 on March 05, 2014

We stayed in the English Room which I think is suppose to be the most simple, but it was just gorgeous. None of our previous hotel stays compare to its beauty & cleanliness. You feel the warmth of a home but everything from the sheets on the bed to the flooring is beautiful. The couple running the location are wonderful and the breakfast out of this world! You couldn't pay for a better breakfast elsewhere.

Great Stay in San Antonio

5 on February 24, 2014

This is a great place for a restful stay in San Antonio. The owners are on site and extremely helpful

Home away from home and the perfect getaway in San Antonio. Period.

5 on February 08, 2014

The Ruckman Haus is the best experience ever. It is tiny blocks from wonderful restaurants and shopping. It is quiet and beautiful, and no detail has been overlooked in providing everything you could want. It is simply my favorite place to stay.

Great Stay.

5 on February 02, 2014

Prudence and Ron were great hostesses. Made our stay in San Antonio incredible. And, in the morning they serve a three course breakfast, coffee and your choice of juice. It had us filled till the late afternoon. They are sweet and helpful when it comes to recommendations (stores, restaurants, etc...). It was are place of zen for the days we were there. :)

Enjoyable stay at Ruckman Haus

5 on January 28, 2014

My husband and I spent three nights at the Ruckman Haus Bed & Breakfast in January of 2014 on our visit to San Antonio. We stayed in the English Room and found it to be comfortable, clean and very beautiful! Our breakfasts were delicious and huge and made fresh. Our host and hostess were very helpful with directions and places to see in San Antonio. I would stay here again and highly recommend it to all my friends.

LIke coming home

5 on January 14, 2014

Staying at Ruckman Haus is like coming home. No detail is overlooked - beautiful décor, fine linens, comfy beds, great showers, a fridge in the room with water bottles, wine and beer in the kitchen, and wonderful breakfasts! The grounds are beautiful with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy in good weather. Hosts Prudence and Ron are the best! And all this for less than you'd pay at a four star hotel.

Best bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in

5 on December 15, 2013

From start to finish my stay at Ruckman Haus was wonderful. I stayed in the Sun Room which in addition to a spacious sleeping area has a lovely sun porch with windows on three sides. Within the sun room is a spiral staircase that leads to a roof deck with two very comfortable lounge chairs. I took advantage of this roof deck in the mornings to have my coffee and sit among the tree tops. I also sat up there at night having a complimentary glass of wine looking up at the stars and listening to the beautiful sound of running water in their nearby fountain. The Ruckmans made some excellent recommendations for restaurants for dinner that I was able to easily walk to. In the morning I only needed to give a thirty minute notice for when I wanted to have breakfast. The breakfasts were huge and delicious. I would definitely stay there again and will recommend it to others.

review of stay at Ruckman Haus

5 on December 14, 2013

This is our second time staying with Pru and Ron in their gorgeous B & B. Warm hosptiality and attention to our needs without intrusion. Learning about San Antonio is one of the added advantages one will not find in a hotel. Finally, it's alway a treat to see who else shows up for breakfast, people from all over the US and world. It really was a home away from home. Justine

Simply a Wee Gem of a Place

5 on December 03, 2013

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we felt valued and truly welcome. We stayed at four B&Bs during our two week tour of Texas and Louisiana and Ruckman Haus was, without doubt, the best. The Sun Room is stunning and the rooftop terrace is an added bonus. The owners, Prudence and Ron, are excellent hosts and nothing is too much trouble to them. We had many wonderful conversations in the morning during breakfast and most ended with lots of laughter. Breakfast is also a true gastronomic experience. It varied every day and Ron catered for my wife's dietary requirements. We had to leave early to get to the Grand Prix in Austin and Ron got up early to make a snack for the journey (dashboard dinning), now how's that for customer service - brilliant. We loved this place and if you decide to use a B&B in San Antonio then go here, you won't regret it.

Amazing stay!

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying and visiting with Prudence and Ron. We loved the way they interacted and made us feel welcomed. They Rock!

Wonderful stay

4.6 on October 30, 2013

We were looking for a place from which it would be convenient to explore San Antonio. Ruckman Haus turned out to be ideal. Only a few minutes drive from the River Walk and other sights, yet the location was residential and quiet (except for the occasional train horn in the distance...but we quickly got used to it). Ron's breakfasts were simply amazing and kept us going for most of the day. Late afternoons were spent sipping the complimentary wine/beer on the room's back deck admiring Prudence's wonderful garden. All in all, a great B&B.

Hidden Gem

4.8 on September 16, 2013

Hidden away just outside of the city's downtown area, Ruckman Haus gives the impression of being tucked away in a country side villa while still having the convenience of being a few minutes away from downtown. I stayed here the night before my wedding and was easily able to rest and prepare for the big day. The morning breakfast feast of delcious berry pancakes was more than enough to last me all the way to our reception later that evening.

Wonderful Getaway stay at the Ruckman Haus

5 on August 14, 2013

My Wife and I have stayed here twice. The rooms and services are outstanding. The location is perfect; minutes away from everything centered around the River Walk and Downtown. The breakfast is amazing, enough to keep you full for half of the day. If you want to experience what a true Bed and Breakfast is; try the Ruckman Haus out, I give it 11 stars out of 10.

5 on August 10, 2013

I always wanted to experience the stay in a B & B. This year (July 2013) as a birthday gift to me I was surprised with two nights at the Ruckman's B & B. We liked the location and the quietness with the easy access to most points of interest in the city, My husband and I arrived a little late that night but Ron was there to assist us in getting situated. Oh my....the English room was simple but elegant, with bathrooms and shower, and TV to enjoy a program or your favorite movie . The whole house is elegantly decorated and the entire house immaculate and beautiful, giving you a total English atmosphere not forgetting the gorgeous garden to seat and relax. You may want to know about Ron and Prudence, they are the perfect hosts, aware of all the needs of their guests. There have everything covered, including a complete information to their guests with maps, written directions, telephones, addresses, restaurants, etc. Breakfast was served in the large dinning room, elegantly decorated with many art pieces and collectibles. We had the experience of sharing with other guests while we ate the delicious breakfast they prepared with their homemade recipes and fresh fruit, ....not to forget the large portions that kept us very satisfied until dinner time. We could not ask for better place to stay and at incredible rate, because this is the best!! We highly recommend it and we will come back!!

The only place to stay in San Antonio

5 on August 07, 2013

Ruckman Haus exceeded our expectations. We stayed two nights and were very sorry when we had to leave. The room was beautiful and clean. The breakfasts were delicious. If you are going to San Antonio you must stay here.

The best value you'll find

5 on July 30, 2013

There is no way you are going to find a more extravagant stay for under $150 a night. We had the most marvelous time.

Honeymoon B & B stay

5 on July 17, 2013

We absolutely adored the bathroom in the Luxemburg room and enjoyed visiting with the Ron and Prudence which had very engaging personalities. The breakfast were phenominal of which were the best we have ever had.

Wonderful B&B

5 on July 10, 2013

The Ruckman Haus was wonderful! I surprised my boyfriend with a night stay here for our anniversary and we both loved it. We stayed in the Highlands room which was super cute. This is the only room on the third floor so it felt very private. The outdoor garden is beautiful, and they have a cat named spot that is very loveable. The evening started off with some complimentary wine and beer which was a nice surprise while we were getting ready to go out. The breakfast was delicious and check out time is noon, so you don't have to rush to leave. I highly recommend this B&B!

Excellent B & B

5 on July 09, 2013

We had a wonderful 3 days at the Ruckman Haus. It was perfect. The home is beautifully furnished and appointed and no attention to detail is left undone. The breakfast was outstanding. It was quiet, private and comfortable. We will definitely be back. Ron and Prudence were wonderful hosts!!! Loved it.

Beautiful home

5 on July 08, 2013

The English Room is as beautiful as in the pictures. The bathroom is spacious. The balcony is also a beautiful touch. They have private parking with the security of a gate. For breakfast they ask you call 30 min prior to you wanting to be served so it can be hot and ready for you. The ambience is superb in all sections of the house. Cab ride to downtown is only $10 each way the cost of parking. Love this place!

Relaxing retreat

4.6 on July 05, 2013

Loved our stay at Ruckman Haus. Wished we had another night just to enjoy all of the lovely outdoor sitting areas. Prudence and Ron paid special attention to the details in making this B&B a great getaway. Breakfast was outstanding as well.

A great way to visit San Antonio!

4.6 on July 03, 2013

We had a wonderful experience at Ruckman Haus. The house is beautiful and the Ruckmans provide an exquisite breakfast. The location makes it easy to visit the River Walk and other attractions in San Antonio.

Nice sunroom

4.0 on July 01, 2013

The room I stayed in was called The Sunroom. It's a small suite with an absolutely perfect private deck on the roof. That was my favorite part. The comfortable bed was my second favorite. I didn't get to eat the breakfast because I had left at 6:30 in the morning. That stunk. The grounds are very lush. The suite was perfect for 1 person because of its size. The price after tax was around $190. Alittle high for 1 person and the area wasn't to scarey. Your car is secured behind a locked gate in back. I didn't hear any trains like what others said in the reviews. I wouldn't stay there if it was my honeymoon because you can hear the people in the other rooms.

Ruckman Haus San Antonio

5 on July 01, 2013

What a wonderful place to stay. Hosts were so welcoming, breakfasts were delicious every morning. We never needed lunch. Room was delightful and convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. Beautiful home and gardens.

The Best!! simply the best place we have ever stayed..Everything was advertised or better.. Awesome breakfast!!!

5 on June 24, 2013

Great as always

Amazing bed and breakfast.

5 on June 18, 2013

The Ruckman Haus provided an amazing experience for my short stay in San Antonio. Ron and Prudence are both absurdly nice people, and the house itself is ornate and warm without being gaudy and overdone. I stayed in the French Room, which was amazing -- the porch was great and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Next time I visit San Antonio, I know exactly where I'll be staying.

Beautiful bed and breakfast!

5 on June 15, 2013

The Ruckman's were phenomenal hosts and I would recommend it for anyone to stay there.

More than we expected

5 on June 13, 2013

We chose this particular B&B because of the description of the gardens and we were not disappointed. After checking in and receiving detail instructions about breakfast and neighboring restaurants, we got our wine from a wonderful selection and retreated to the gardens to relax after a day at the Folklife Festival. The bathroom was definitely up to date with powerful, multiple shower heads and excellent linens. Our hosts were very accommodating by providing a fantastic breakfast at the time we requested it.

Sister's Weekend

5 on June 10, 2013

What a gem! I reserved 2 rooms at Ruckman Haus for my 4 sisters and myself for a surprise 60th birthday weekend for our oldest sister. She was so impressed with the place as we all were. It is even better than the pictures on the web sight. The patio is gorgeous as all of the grounds. The rooms were cozy yet spacious and very clean! We loved everything about it and I am already telling all my friends about it. Ron cooks the best blueberry pancakes ever, delicious! It is truly the Bed and Breakfast experience we were wanting! Thank you Ron and Prudence for everything! We will be back!!

Girls trip for Cinco de Mayo

5 on May 17, 2013

My 2 girlfriends and I had 2 rooms at Ruckman Haus over Cinco de Mayo weekend and truly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were extremely clean. Both breakfasts were abundant and delicious. Stayed up in the living room one night and visited with a glass of wine from their kitchen. We are looking forward to going back!! Very relaxing and peaceful gardens.

Ruckmann House Review

Very cosy house with beautiful rooms. The garden is amazing. Prudence and Ron are one of the nicest people I have ever met and give us a lot of good advices.

Texas Holiday

5 on May 12, 2013

Ron & Prudence were the perfect hosts...they went beyond the call for comfort, in a B&B. The meals were delicious and plentiful! We had the French Room which had a lovely balcony, that we used the three nights we were there. They made my first trip to San Antonio memorable! We like out of the way places and this was charming! The bus stop into town was only a 5 minute walk from their place...A 15 minute walk brings you into a small community with two restaurants, where you can get lunch or dinner. You won't be disappointed! Couple from California...Stayed April 2013

Great Hospitality, Gorgeous Home

5 on May 08, 2013

This is our third stay at Ruckman House...and we are staying there again in two weeks. The house is lovely -- filled with antiques and beautiful artwork. Our room was clean, beautifully furnished and comfortable. The innkeepers have mastered B&B hospitality. Ron's blueberry pancakes are to die for!

Beautiful experience!

5 on May 08, 2013

My wife and I arrived and we immediately felt at home. The house was beautiful, clean, great area of town and the breakfast was to die for! We will definitely be back in the future!

Great B&B in San Antonio

5 on April 26, 2013

Indeed, a San Antonio treasure! Easy access to downtown and other attractions inside the beltway (zoo, botanical gardens, etc.). Room was very comfortable and immaculate. Breakfasts are delicious! Special requests (such as early breakfast on my day of departure) were readily accommodated.

Fantastic B&B

5 on April 22, 2013

We stayed in the Sun Room which also has a roof top refuge. The room, Ron and Prudence and food and caring exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend the Ruckman Haus for anyone visiting San Antonio.

Highly, highly recommend

5 on April 19, 2013

My husband and I stayed here with friends of ours. The rooms are immaculate and very well maintained. Attention to detail was very impressive. Our friends loved the English room. We thoroughly enjoyed the French with its comfortable bed and lovely balcony with views of the gorgeous garden pathway. The Ruckmans have the BEST breakfast you will find in San Antonio. The value cannot be beat either -- much better quality, service, rooms, and breakfast than any hotel in San Antonio.

Ruckman Haus - As Good As Ever

3.0 on April 11, 2013

This was our 3rd stay at Ruckman Haus and we will look forward to the 4th. Friendly, gracious and accommodating host, Ron and Prudence, always make you feel at home. Clean, comfortable rooms which warrant a return stay. Plentiful, tasty breakfasts top it off. This B&B is there with the best.

Lovely B&B in San Antonio

5 on April 07, 2013

Lovely B&B in San Antonio! Highly recommended! Ron and Prudence are really welcoming and the house is lovely and the bedrooms spotless clean and charming. We also enjoyed staying outside in the garden and on the terrace with complimentary drinks. Ron and Prudence also provided us with great recommendations, even outside San Antonio! Thanks again Ron for the really good breakfast! It was also nice to spend some time with Ron and Prudence after breakfast and sharing stories! Perfectly located B&B only 10 min drive from city center.

husbands surprise birthday trip

5 on April 05, 2013

I wanted to plan something very special for my husband’s 39th birthday, so after being leery and never staying at a bed and breakfast before, I thought why not. We are so glad we did, we loved it! When we checked into our room there were some cupcakes in our room for his birthday. Ron was Great, Prudence was so Sweet! Ron knew it all, where to eat, where to go. We really enjoyed talking to him. He told us several places to eat and the restaurants gave us a discount just because we were staying at the house. Our room was very clean and nice, loved the shower! But we really loved the patio. We sat out there and listened to the water from the garden, drank beer, and talked. We had not gotten to do that in so so long. Breakfast was GREAT, my husband loved Ron’s eggs frittata! The garden was beautiful, the house is nice. Overall we loved it and never felt like we were bothering them or a burden. We were extremely comfortable being there, and plan on doing it again!!!

5 on March 30, 2013

Our stay at the Ruckman Haus was more than we expected. The French room was beautifully decorated and clean. The breakfast was incredible. The garden was amazing and colorful. Ron and Prudence really know their business! I can't wait until our next trip back to San Antonio.

best place ever!

5 on March 24, 2013

The house is amazing and so are the Ruckmans. We have never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, and thisplace was amazing. The rooms, the backyard the food , every thing is spectacular! We will be staying again soon.

Lovely time!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ruckman Haus. The setting is lovely, the food is delicious and the company very enjoyable. We highly recommend it!

A lovely B&B

5 on March 19, 2013

A restful, very comfortable B&B in a quieter section of San Antonio, slose enough to main attractions, but removed enough to provide a peaceful haven after a busy day of sightseeing. Hosts are attentive to every comfort, and breakfast is to die for!

Friendly and Comfy

5 on March 19, 2013

Love the Ruckman Haus. Ron and Prudence are so friendly and the house is so comfortable. Perfect stay!

Our Stay at the Ruckman Bed & Breakfast in San Antonio, Texas

5 on March 17, 2013

Our stay at this Bed & Breakfast was one of the best bread and breakfast places we've ever stayed. The Ruckman's had a delicious beautiful breakfast waiting for us everyday the best breakfast we've ever had. and beautiful presentation on each meal. I would recommend this place over any hotel in San Antonio, it was close to downtown San Antonio sites and far enough away from the tourist. Very relaxing place.

Even Better than Advertised

5 on March 16, 2013

We stayed in the Sun Room for the weekend and it was perfect. The sunroom over the garden is great for relaxing. The spiral staircase up to the balcony is a nice touch and another great place to relax. Prudence and Ron are very accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Ron is an expert on the local culinary offerings if you're looking for a suggestion. It was fantastic and we'll definitely be back! - Nathan and Sharla

Love the place, love the owners

5 on March 11, 2013

Huge breakfast after a stay in a totally relaxing, wonderful smelling room. Ron and Prudence know their stuff and I will stay there anytime I visit San Antonio (and have for years). These are just good people. Oh, and unlike some B&B's, they are not stodgy and the place feels comfortable, not fragile.

Rest for the Weary

5 on March 11, 2013

I truly enjoyed my stay at the Ruchman Haus. I was exhausted when I arrived but the porch off my room was a perfect place to unwind and have a glass of wine. The French Room was so cozy in blue and white tones and the bed was inviting and so comfy, By morning I was rested and ate delicious eggs benedict with a delicate hollendaise sauce- I was ready for another day of work! The owners were lovely and hospitable-

Texas Hospitality at its best!

5 on March 09, 2013

Gracious and understanding hosts. My wife was ill part of our stay and Prudence and Ron were very understanding and helped and adjusted our needs whenever they could. Very comfortable sitting in the living room or on a private porch. Probably one of our best BBs.

The best bed and breakfast in San Antonio!

Loved everything about it!

5 on February 25, 2013

Ron and Prudence were so friendly and welcoming. When we told them we didn't have a car, they went out of their way to find us bike maps of the city. They lent us umbrellas when it rained and gave great restaurant recommendations. The rooms and garden are beautiful and comfortable. I could not have had a better experience!

Best B&B I've Ever Experienced

5 on February 20, 2013

The Sun Room was gorgeous, I loved private spiral staircase with a roof top balcony. I wish it had been a bit warmer so we could have used it more but we'll definitely be going back in the spring & summer. This was a great room for kicking back & relaxing, we loved it so much we didn't want to go anywhere else our entire trip! The owners Ron & Prudence were lovely, very accommodating & the breakfasts were delicious home cooked meals with plenty of food to spare. Ron & Prudence have made the entire house feel very cozy & inviting, they allow guests to help themselves to any beer, wine, tea, coffee & hot coca in their fully stocked kitchen at no extra charge! I loved getting back to the house in the evening & being able to kick back with a glass of wine & some hot tea, it made us feel right at home. The rooms were priced the same if not lower than any other B&B's in town but they include a home cooked meal every morning, free drinks & the room was larger than any I've ever stayed in! So it definitely felt like a bargain to us. I highly recommend the Ruckman Haus & I look forward to spending many more relaxing weekends there myself.

We love the Ruckman Haus Bed and Breakfast, we return every year for our anniversary. The rooms are cozy and clean, each one unique and beautiful, and the breakfast is fantastic and delicious. The couple that owns the house is friendly and professional, and downtown San Antonio has endless activities and restaurants. If you are in the area and able to stay here, don't hesitate. The body jet showers in the English Room and Sun Room are unbeatable!

This is the third time that we have stayed at Ruckman Haus, and each stay has been wonderful. We have stayed in three different rooms, and all are cosy and comfortable. The English Room was our latest and we loved it--the shower was delicious. Prudence and Ron are the greatest hosts ever. We can't say enough about what a pleasure it is to stay with the Ruckmans.

Great Stay At the Ruckman Haus

4.6 on January 22, 2013

After a number of trys over the years to find a solid bed and breakfast in San Antonio, last weekend we found a gem in the Ruckman Haus ("RH") . Ron and Prudence were the perfect hosts, our room (The Sun Room) was roomy, very comfortable and had an amazing shower , the RH common areas were extremly attractive and filled with interesting art, photographs and books and the garden was picturesque and peaceful. We definitely will be back.

There's no place like home

4.6 on January 16, 2013

Ruckman Haus is a superb lodging option in San Antonio--especially for those who would like the comfort of a bed and breakfast and enjoy (relatively) free run of the house. The details are well considered--great linens, comfortable beds, and good spaces. Prudence and Ron are willing to share their knowledge of San Antonio generously.

The best!!

5 on January 13, 2013

Our stay was absolutely wonderful!! Amazing decor and the food was unbelievable! We loved the garden area with the patios and balconies that were part of our room! We sat out in the evenings and it was so enjoyable!! Great variety of wines and even cold water in our room for our convenience. The rooms were spotless and had great beds!! The innkeeper, Prudence, was so sweet to us and we so enjoyed her!! She gave us great directions and offered places to see and things to do in the area. Truly a place we will return to!!

Quiet, quaint little B&B

4.8 on January 07, 2013

If you want to be close enough for a short drive to the excitement of the Riverwalk but far enough to enjoy some quiet relaxation at the end of the day, then this is the place for you! Ron & Prudence were great hosts. Bed was very comfy, shower jets were awesome, breakfast was delish! Check out the local Italian restaurant while you're there!

Ruckman Haus

5 on January 06, 2013

My husband and I had never stayed in a bed breakfast and I don't know what we were waiting for. I did a lot of research before booking Ruckman Haus and it definitely paid off. The rooms and grounds were beautiful, and Prudence and Ron were perfect hosts! The breakfasts were delicious. Our daughter is getting married next year and we plan on booking our whole family at Ruckman Haus so they can enjoy it as much as we did.

Great food and place

Wonderful as Always

5 on November 26, 2012

I have been staying with Ron and Prudence at the Ruckman Haus for almost 10 years and it is always a wonderful experience. They are great people with a very clean and very well taken care of B&B. I always recommend that my friends stay there. The house and gardens are amazing. You can tell that much time and effort is put into the upkeep. Breakfast is always amazing. I love it so much that I call it my "secret garden".

Wonderful stay!

I took my wife on a surprise trip to San Antonio and we stayed at the Ruckman Haus. Ron & Prudence were great and we had a fantastic time! I am a rather large guy, so keep that in mind. I thought the bathrooms were a little small, but this is an old house and for a normal sized person they are probably big enough. Other than little bathrooms I thought this place was amazing!!! I can't say enough how great Ron & Prudence were - very helpful and accommodating!

Very enjoyable stay

5 on October 29, 2012

This bed & breakfast is everything and more that is shown on the website. Truly an enjoyable experience. Will be staying there again. Close to all attractions, yet away from the hustle & bustle.

One Business Traveler's Opinion

4.4 on October 29, 2012

Very clean, accessible and well-appointed B&B. Early breakfast was no issue and delectable. Room and the whole house for your use is clean, classically updated and very functional and comfortable. Innkeepers discreet, but friendly and helpful. The Monte Vista historical district neighborhood is a great place for an evening or morning walk or run. A good stop.

Charming accommodations, friendly service.

4.6 on October 25, 2012

Thank you, Ron and Prudence! This was a delightful stay in a charming part of San Antonio. If I find myself back in San Antonio, I'll see about making a reservation with you. Breakfast was delightful, and you very very friendly. The room was charming, and just what I needed.

weekend trip

5 on October 17, 2012

Came and stayed in the Luxembourg room. The smallest room. It was super comfy and cozy and Ron and Prudence were very friendly. I think one load of the linens in the laundry had a funny small to then but that was most likely I'm from a different part of the state so my water is different. But the area of town was great and we managed to stay in budget for the trip,

Home away from home

5 on October 14, 2012

We really enjoyed our stayed. This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast. The place was nice and cozy. Especially eating a healthy breakfast outside in the morning which the weather was great. My wife really loved it and we will be going back.

4.4 on September 30, 2012

I stayed at the Ruckman's Haus for two nights. I stayed in the French room and it was perfect! Very private, soft bedding, I was able to control the temperature of my room and I had a wonderful patio off my room. I had to be at a conference earlier than normal breakfast time on Saturday and the Ruckman's were more than accommodating! I will stay with them again and invite others to do so!!

1st Anniversary!!

5 on September 13, 2012

My wife and I chose the Ruckman Haus as the place to spend our one year anniversary because of the excellent reviews it had received online and we coudln't have been more delighted by the entire experience. From the house it is a short trip to the famous Riverwalk and Alamo, if one is adventurous you could even walk, but I preferred to drive. Six Flags, Seaworld and the Schlitterbahn water park are all in close driving distance as well. We've stayed at more than a half dozen B&B's since we've been married and the Ruckman Haus is definitely ranked in the top two. The food in the morning was excellent and you haven't taken a shower until you experience the one in the English Room! Fantastic!!! Ron and Prudence, (the normal owners/caretakers) were out of town when my wife and I visited, but don't let that worry or stop you since when they are gone the B&B falls into the capable hands of John and Linda, who were both friendly and helpful. I guarantee an entertaining conversation with either of them. In all expect a very relaxing stay, whether you are lounging outside in the beautiful garden next to the fountain, or curled up on the couch in their cozy living room sipping tea and enjoying one of the many books Ron and Prudence provide from their library. I highly recommend it!!

Ruckman Haus

5 on September 07, 2012

We have usually stayed in one of the hotels on the river when in San Antonio. We chose this time to stay at the Ruckman Haus for our anniversary. It was a superb choice. The room was the English Room on the second floor. It was immaculately clean upon our arrrival and each day we were there. ( They do have someone who comes in each day for this task. Tipping for this is appreciated but not requested.). Parking is gated and a bit cramped but adequate. Ron Ruckman is an excellent gouemet chef and the breakfast each morning was outstanding!! The hosts were most cordial and very helpful in answering any questions. The wiFi is available in the room and connection instructions provided. Bus service to the area from downtown is scarce so the 2+ miles to the downtown riverwalk is best driven by car. A & A

Perfect Getaway

5 on September 02, 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed one night here for my birthday and it was the best night. You are greeted when you arrive and are given directions and spots to visit in San Antonio. It is an excellent location. All of the rooms are amazing. We stayed in the smallest room and it was perfect. We had our own bathroom, patio, in room ac, and tv. If you ever needed anything you can go to the kitchen. They even have complementary wine! The breakfast is amazing. A real gourmet meal that fills you up for the rest of the day. We went in August. The only suggestion I would give, is to go when it is cooler so you can take full opportunity of the garden outside.

Best Value in San Antonio

4.8 on August 27, 2012

We stayed 6 nights & were treated like royalty. Even though Jon & Linda were filling in for Ron & Prudence, we were welcomed with open arms, They had even picked up a few extra items because my wife is a vegetarian. A beautiful home, great conversation, very clean & comfortable! We will definitely stay there on our next trip to S.A. Joe & Colleen, Crane, TX

Great stay!

This was our second stay at the Ruckman Haus. Our room (The Luxembourg) was small but beautiful-with a nice balcony. The bed was super comfortable! Service was really friendly and breakfast was wonderful. Love thr beautiful garden oasis they have built here. Super convenient location for a visit to Trinity University. Hope to stay here again soon!

Romantic Weekend Retreat at Ruckman Haus

5 on August 11, 2012

This charming house is so great for a romantic weekend that I wish it was mine. It's inviting, homey and full of character. The English Room has a water park in the bathroom --- A body shower with three jets, a handheld and an attached shower head. The bed is an imposing, yet comfortable four-poster and there's even free bottled water in the in-room refrigerator. If you're a foodie, definitely talk to Ron. He makes a very filling gourmet breakfast and his kitchen is lovely. We had a fritata with cilantro-pesto, yogurt parfait, coffee, tea, apple juice, orange juice and lemon loaf for breakfast -- Yummilicious! From the moment we walked in, Ron started talking about food while Prudence gave us maps, travel tips and useful numbers -- They'll make you feel like family. If you're worried about safety, Jack, the resident canine, guards the front door and there's also gated parking in the back. This is definitely the best value accommodation near the River Walk. We will come again.

2.6 on August 10, 2012

When we arrived we were greeted by a barking dog and an envelope taped to the door with directions for gaining entry. Our first contact with our host was a phone conversation in the morning before breakfast and our host was grouchy and hung up before we concluded our conversation. We thought about leaving but were afraid we would be charged for our second night. We felt trapped and unsafe.

The Best B & B in San Antonio

5 on August 08, 2012

Please do not miss this gem of a b and b if you want to stay in San Antonio. Don't just look for one by the Riverwalk, as this one is worth the drive over. It is not far by car from downtown and the Riverwalk, and is in the middle of a beautiful, historic neighborhood. Ron makes the best breakfasts I have ever had at a B & B (and I go to at least 20 a year) and Prudence has made the grounds absolutely stunning. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. In short, this is the best B & B I have ever been to and it is a must stay if you are going to San Antonio.

1st visit to San Antonio Texax from Riverside CA

5 on August 08, 2012

Beautiful stay for 4 nights. Ron and Prudence make an awesome breakfast and have lots of ideas for outings. We followed their suggestion to go to Fredricksburg and had a wonderful day. Would have never known about the cool little German town tucked in the hills in south Texas. Check it out if your in the area only a short 1 1/2 hour drive from the Ruckman Haus. Also the grounds at Ruckman Haus are beautifully landscaped and maintained. I took lots of pictures to use for inspiration in my garden at home. If ever in the San Antonio area in future will definitely stay at the Ruckman Haus.

outstanding b and b

5 on July 29, 2012

We were made to feel at home - my husband had some dietary restrictions, and I preferred egg beaters instead of whole eggs, and the hosts visited the store to procure food items that fit our requests. Also, the lavish bathrobes provided in our room lent a feeling of richness and elegance to our stay. Beverages and healthy snacks were available in the kitchen for us and the other guests.

Ruckman Haus Review (English Room)

4.8 on July 24, 2012

Outstanding facility. One problem was our bed was not comfortable (slanted with head perceptibly lower than foot). We found 1/2 inch wooden disks behind headboard which we put under the legs on the front of the bed and this seemed to improve the problem but had a rough first night.

Cream of the crop

5 on July 19, 2012

Ruckman Haus is a beautiful property in a quiet neighborhood about ten minutes from downtown San Antonio. Prudence and Ron are gracious, easy-going hosts who are available if you need them but who otherwise give you your space. The decorating was spot-on for my fiance and I--lavish enough to feel like a special place but very tasteful and not the least overdone. We stayed in the French Room and very much enjoyed relaxing on its deck, which overlooks the garden. Breakfast was a delicious waffle loaded with maple syrup and fresh berries. We hope to stay again and experience the Eggs Benedict!

"Ruckman Haus should be in every major city!"

5 on July 13, 2012

There are many B&Bs in the United States, but only ONE Ruckman Haus! Two nights and two breakfasts later, I can say that this was a great experience for myself and my wife. Prudcence & Ron are wonderful hosts, and if you are planning a trip to San Antonio, then Ruckman Haus is where you should stay. If it is available, ask for the Sun Room!

Hidden Treasure

5 on July 11, 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ruckman Hause Bed & Breakfast. It greatly exceeded our expectations, and the hosts are absolutely wonderful. The room was charming, and perfect for two-night stay. It included a balcony overlooking the property, which was very secure, and allowed us to park our vehicle within the electronic gate. The property itself was beautiful, with a wrap-around porch and plush garden settings. Breakfast was delicious, and the hosts gave us options of places and things to enjoy about the town and local businesses. The Pearl Brewery leading to the Riverwalk is less than a 10-minute drive away, and very easy to get to. We highly recommend anyone to choose this quaint place to stay. We will make it a point when we come into town to rest at the Ruckman Haus.

Best B & B!!!

4.8 on July 07, 2012

We loved our time at Ruckman Haus and have already told many about it. We loved the atmosphere - we felt like we were home away from home. We looked forward to spending time back at the house more than we even enjoyed going out and exploring San Antonio. One reason it was so comfortable was because it was so clean. Spotless. Because of the hosts, we were fortunate to discover more places to go in San Antonio - they were so helpful and informative. Cannot say enough good things ...

Absolutely fantastic!!

5 on July 01, 2012

My family and I were in San Antonio due to our mother's sudden passing, so we had virtually no time to plan our stay. I had one day to find housing for several people who were coming into town for the services. I called several B & B's with no luck finding rooms and was getting desperate when one of them suggested I try the Ruckman Haus. Prudence and Ron were truly an answer to prayer! They were compassionate, supportive, and flexible in allowing us to stay in whatever rooms they had available. My sister and I ended up staying an entire week to settle our mother's estate, and the Ruckmans were accommodating and eager to do whatever they could to help us. Prudence was sweet and caring, and Ron's breakfasts were simply OUTSTANDING!!!! The rooms are beautifully decorated with great attention to detail, and the beds are extremely comfortable. We could not have asked for a better experience at their B&B, especially during such an emotionally difficult time. We hope to stay there again when we have our next family reunion in San Antonio. Prudence and Ron, thank you for such a wonderful experience!!

Loved the Ruckman Haus!

5 on June 10, 2012

We stayed only two nights, but I wish it were longer. We had a lovely room, sat in the beautiful gardens, and ate amazing breakfasts. I would highly recommend the Ruckman Haus; our hosts were so helpful and accommodating.

Great way to see San Antonio

4.8 on May 25, 2012

Prudence and Ron are outstanding hoasts and go out of their way to see that you have a great experience. Ron is a supurb cook and serves up some of the best breakfasts we've ever had at a B&B.

Best B and B we have stayed at

5 on May 13, 2012

My wife and I travel once a year and stay in B&B'S wherever we can as these usually offer a better experience than a hotel. We stayed 5 nights at the end of April 2012. Ruckman Haus offered a better experience than a 5 star hotel and exceeded all our expectations. The hosts,Ron and Prudence are wonderful and nothing but nothing is a problem for them. The house is situated not far from the airport and is a 2 minute walk and 10 minute bus ride from the centre of town and you can get a $4 all day pass to anywhere. From other travellers it seems parking was a problem down town so the bus is the best form of transport-it is cheap and easy. We stayed in the French room which was spacious and had its own porch. It had air con and a fridge which was kept topped up with bottled water. On arrival back after a hard days sight seeing there was an open fridge offering a glass of wine or a beer(shiner Bock-a local beer that i fell in love with). The breakfast are an art form and Ron cooks them superbly-they are so filling that you can go without lunch somedays.Breakfasts were fun as people from all over met and we were able to talk to some really interesting people-we don't normally linger over breakfast when on vacation but here time just flew as we were all having so much fun. Ruckman haus is also situated a short walk to some good restaurants-the best being La Fonda Mexican restaurant-awesome-don't miss it. Ruckman Haus is exceptionally clean and tidy and the hosts are exceptional people-warm,friendly and is great value for money and would I recommend it-you bet. Would I stay there again-in a heart beat

We had a very happy weekend in this cozy B&B. Ron and Prudence are very nice and warm, the service is so excellent that we are very appreciated. The room is very clean and beautiful, expecially the mettress is so comfortable that we can not weak up easy:-). Anyway we love it so much and will come back.

Nice B&B

4.4 on May 07, 2012

We stayed in the English Room and found it charming and very clean. Breakfasts were delicious and filling enough to last way past what would have been our normal lunch time. A bit further from town that I originally thought and not as close to the RiverWalk as I had thought. Also a little noisy with trains at night for people who are light sleepers. But all in all a very nice place to stay.

Beautiful Home & Lovely Setting

5 on April 18, 2012

Enjoyed our stay immensely. Ron & Prudence have done a fantastic job of taking an early 1900's home and turned it into a first class B&B. They were very helpful during our stay and catered to all of our needs. The surrounding gardens are beautiful and a very relaxing place to sit and read or do nothing. We stayed in the Sun room which offered our own roof top balcony that we took advantage of in the evenings, sipping wine while listening to the birds and fountain. We did have an opportunity to peek into the other rooms :-) and I am sure we would have enjoyed anyone of them. You will not be disappointed if you stay here!!!

Great Stay

Lovely B&B

4.4 on April 12, 2012

Lovely B&B convenient to downtown and other attractions.

Everything done right!

5 on March 17, 2012

We chose Ruckman Haus because of high ratings here and elsewhere and were not disappointed. The owners have built a great reputation and continue to deliver value and quality of experience for their guests. The rooms are excellent and you essentially have the use of the house because the owners live in a suite over the garage. Be sure to visit "La Fonda" for dinner (walking distance) and also walk the residential streets across San Pedro during daylight hours to enjoy the neighborhood. Great location too; downtown is just a few minutes away.

Ruckman Haus Review - Charming B & B

My daughter and I stayed here along with some friends. Our balcony was connected so we could visit in the evening. Everything was outstanding ..from the decor, the hostess, and the family. It was a lovely get away!

Great stay in San Antonio

4.8 on March 15, 2012

We had a very enjoyable 3-night stay at Ruckman Haus. Ron and Prudence are very gracious and entertaining hosts. Our room was on the smaller side (we had the Luxembourg), but we knew that when we reserved it, and it was fine for us. There is a great deck attached to the room as well. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the common areas of the house are quite lovely. I really enjoyed the great selection of art books in one of the sitting areas. The food is a topic all of it's own. Ron is a breakfast artist! We had excellent choices each morning, and my husband even ate cantaloupe for the first time! The house is in a quiet location, but there is a train you can hear quite frequently throughout the night. It was only about a 10 minute drive over to the Riverwalk area and even closer to some interesting shops and restaurants off Main. Overall, we had an excellent experience at the Ruckman Haus, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a B&B in San Antonio.

Thank you

This was a great experience with hospitable, warm and welcoming hosts.

Wonderful stay!

5 on February 29, 2012

I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best B&Bs I have ever been to. The location was great - everything was so close. We stayed in the Luxembourg room which was absolutely beautiful and simply relaxing. Ron and Prudence were so helpful with tips on where to go and eat and actually printing out directions for us. They provided us the best start to the day with a gourmet, delicious breakfast. Thank you Ron and Prudence for a wonderful stay! I will definitely be back!

San Antonio Stay

4.0 on February 29, 2012

The English Room was very comfortable and just the right size. We enjoyed the outdoor seating in the garden and on the side porch. Ron and Prudence are very knowledgable about the area and helped us enjoy our stay. Breakfasts were ample and very yummy. If we return to the San Antonio area we will consider Ruckman Haus before any other B&B.

Outstanding accomodations, service, food, and value!

5 on February 29, 2012

My wife and I just spent a long weekend at the Ruckman Haus and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The house was charming and well located for getting anywhere around San Antonio. Ron's cooking was fantastic and Prudence was very hospitable and accomodating. The room was extremely clean. We looked at a number of hotels along the riverwalk before booking at the Ruckman Haus, and we were thrilled we made the choice we did - not to mention we probably saved $60-70 per night by not paying the "riverwalk premium" plus the outrageous parking fees at the downtown hotels.

Wonderful stay!

Perfect Anniversary getaway

4.0 on February 11, 2012

My husband and I always plan a stay at the Ruckman Haus for our anniversary, the Ruckmans prepare perfection for breakfast after the best night's sleep and the most amazing shower in the world (in the Sun Room and English Room--body jets in the shower!) The only problem is that one night is not enough!!!

A Lovely Experience

3.8 on February 01, 2012

My husband and I stayed for one night in the English suite, which was charming and comfortable and had a nice multi-jet shower. (We peeked at the other rooms, which also seemed delightful - hard to choose among them!). We also enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful living room/library with a cup of tea or margarita and good reading material. The hosts, Ron and Prudence, were friendly and welcoming,, and provided good information about local sights. The breakfast was bountiful - a huge waffle with a ton of berries, on the day we were there, though other options were possible. We especially appreciated their accommodation of food allergies, as well as their generous provision of midnight snacks. Everything was very romantic! The only small minus was that our room was a bit chilly, and turning the heater up didn't seem to help - though perhaps there was a trick that we would have inquired about had we stayed another night. All in all, a very nice experience and we would definitely go back.

Mom, you have stay here too

5 on January 29, 2012

We send our "kids" here for their weekend honeymoon. They wee very happy. They stayed in the French room. The comment we got from them is : You have to go too. They loved the view of the back yard - my son comapared the view to his favorite place in Thailand. After I made the reservation for them I spoke to Prudence on the phone and she was "supernice". We are planning to stay for a weekend in a few month.....

Another outstanding stay with Ron and Prudence!

5 on January 27, 2012

It is always a pleasure to stay with Ron and Prudence. As B&B owners for over 25 years, we know that hospitality is #1. They have a first-rate facility with all the details attended to, yet it's in the hospitality department where they really shine. Not only do they make excellent recommendations, they also give you maps with detailed driving instructions. All of this adds up to a wonderful experience of staying at Ruckman Haus and in visiting San Antonio. Shirley Ditloff Barrow House Inn St. Francisville, Louisiana USA

Quiet place in San Antonio

4.2 on December 26, 2011

The owners are very personable and provide lots of helpful suggestions to make the stay meaningful and add others for the journey onward. The breakfasts provide a varied diet of imaginative fare. They err on the side of too much food. The location is away from the Riverwalk but the area is quiet and travel to the main attractions is easy.

Ruckman Haus weekend

5 on November 25, 2011

We had a wonderful weekend at Ruckman Haus. Our room was even larger and more comfortable than it appeared in the website photo. The warm and inviting communal living room had a large and interesting library of books to browse in the comfortable chairs. Breakfasts were delicious and enjoyable in the beautiful dining room. Both host and hostess were friendly and informative, but never intrusive. Great location.

Stayed for 3 nights in mid-September in the Luxembourg room. The room, ensuite bathroom and shared deck were all better than I had imagined they would be, and I enjoyed the lounge with it's array of guidebooks and reading material. Ron and Pru were fantastic hosts, who couldn't have been more hospitable, and the breakfasts were truly a delicious feast!

A fantastic b and b, much better than " home from home"!

4.6 on October 05, 2011

We stayed for 3 nights in the lovely "French Room" which had a shared deck overlooking the garden and private parking area. The room was delightful, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We were warmly greeted on arrival, and given very helpful (written) information about local neighbourhood restaurants, and clear instructions re driving into downtown area and best parking options. Breakfasts were excellent. Prudence and Ron were superb hosts, who offered complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks, and were delightful to talk with. Ruckman Haus was a real find and helped make our stay in San Antonio extremely relaxing and enjoyable.

Wonderful Accommodations and Perfect Hosts

Wonderful place to go. Very comfortable & feels like a home away from home. Breakfast was great and made hot just for each person. I have been to some that make everything at once & you can come anytime to get it but this place makes it just for you so it is not sitting around. Room was beautiful & clean. Would completely recommend you stay here.

San Antonio experience enhanced by Ruckman Haus B&B Stay

5 on September 01, 2011

I took a chance on the Ruckman Haus based on the web site & location only a mile and a half to downtown & free parking. It couldn't have turned out better! The place is IMMACULATE! The food is not only PLENTIFUL but SCRUMPTIOUS, Ron is a great cook. I had arranged for three branches of my family to meet there for a family wedding and all weekend long the others kept telling me what a find the place is! Not only were the Ruckmans friendly and welcoming but they gave good advice as to what to hit & miss as far as sightseeing. I was stranded in San Antonio due to Hurricane Irene closing my home airport. I was welcomed for a couple of extra days and was told that if they had been booked, they would have found me a place to stay scary Alfred Hitchcock Hotel out on the strip for me, no matter what. When I finally got a flight out it was to be VERY early in the AM so Ron & Prudence left me a picnic to take to the airport & had the coffee timer set so I went off on my journey fully caffeinated. I cannot recommend the Ruckman Haus highly enough. As we say in Boston, it was WICKED AWESOME! (Pissah)

Precious Jewel Near Trinity Univ. Campus

4.8 on August 17, 2011

This B&B is in a beautifully restored 100 year old home situated in a charming neighborhood about 5 minutes from Trinity's campus. The innkeepers were warm and gracious hosts. Our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable...with big fluffy towels and bathrobes. The small fridge in our room was stocked with water. We enjoyed a gorgeous breakfast of French toast and berries in the formal dining room with the other guests. We had a delightful experience and Ruckman Haus will be our new home whenever we visit our daughter in San Antonio.

Look no further -- this B&B is the best!

I have stayed with Ron and Pru Ruckman's B&B for years and it is the only place in San Antonio I'd stay. They are great people, the rooms are beautiful, and the location is perfect for everything from downtown shopping to sports events. I just can't say enough about the ambiance of the place; it's absolutely beautiful without being pretentious, a wonderful calming retreat.

5 on August 08, 2011

The Ruckman Haus was a great place to stay. It was our 43rd anniversary and Ron had a cold bottle of sparkling wine for us. Ron cooked the breakfast and it was wonderful. Prudence gave great directions to everywhere we wanted to go. We stayed in the French Room and it was very comfortable. We will return soon.

Gracious hosts, Great Location

4.8 on August 02, 2011

The Ruckman Haus has a very scenic location. The hosts are very attentive. Breakfast was very good, and it was great to visit with other guests over such good food. The rooms were very comfortable and well apppointed. We would definitely return.

This was truly a wonderful experience. It was my wife and my first time at a B&B and it did not disappoint. From being greeted by a smiling face when first stepping in the door, to relaxing in the comfortable and beautiful rooms, to the expert knowledge Ron and Prudence offer about the number of things to do, this stay was perfect. I will be back.

7.4.11 Ruckman Haus Review

5 on July 04, 2011

Looking back on our trip, the decision to stay at Ruckman Haus was easily the best decision we made. The Ruckmans are absolutely wonderful hosts and really do make you feel like you are home. The room was beautiful and the food was fantastic. The location was perfect as well because it was close enough to the downtown area to allow for an inexpensive cab ride yet far enough away so that we could avoid the hustle and bustle of traffic. In the future, if we are able to return to San Antonio, my wife and I will continue to use the Ruckman Haus as our number one option for lodging.

Feels Like Visiting Friends

4.8 on July 03, 2011

This was our second stay at the Ruckmann Haus. We always feel so welcome and it felt this time like we were coming back to visit with our friends Ron and Prudence. The food is amazing. The house is gorgeous. You are close enough to everything you would want to see in the San Antonio area, but far enough away that it is peaceful. Ron and Prudence are great at giving directions to almost everywhere you would want to go. We are looking forward to staying with them again next year.

Comfortable, convenient and fun

4.8 on July 02, 2011

We really enjoyed the Sun Suite with the king size bed, sitting room, and rooftop deck. Breakfast was great and served at reasonable times (we don't like getting up too early!). Location is just minutes north of downtown, and the owners provide detailed directions to a convenient parking lot near the Riverwalk.

The French Room

5 on June 29, 2011

My 2 night stay at Ruckman Haus was suberb in every way. It actually felt like I spent the week-end with family! Ron and Prudence go to every length to make your stay there as comfortable as it can possibly be including fabulous bedding and totally comfortable beds. I will return, no doubt about it!! Susan S.

Ruckman House Stay

4.6 on June 23, 2011

The breakfast that Ron and Prudence serve is tremendous. The location is excellent. I cannot imagine us even trying somewhere else. The room is outstanding. Ron and Prudence are very good hosts and they sat with us and talked to us for a long time at breakfast which we liked. They are just very good people. The grounds are outstanding as well except that we wanted to do other stuff so we didn't spend much time out there.

Outstanding place and service!!!

5 on June 23, 2011

WOW! We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our trip to SA. Ron and Prudence made our stay in San Antonio fun, informative, and very comfortable. They are gracious hosts with a great knowledge of SA as well as Texas history. They recommended great places to eat and visit in the city as well as the surrounding hill country. The pictures don't do the place justice... the rooms and the house are Beautiful!!! From the small touches like fine linens and complimentary drinks to the wait... the fantastic breakfasts. We enjoyed visiting with both Prudence and Ron in between our trips around the area. They are not only top notch hosts but very genuinely caring people. Thanks to the both of you... and we'll definitely see you guys on our next trip to SA. Joe and Taryn, Tucson AZ

Ruckman Haus

It was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and it was amazing. Although the house had some creaking when you walked around it felt so homey and was so relaxing. The owner was so nice, she made me feel like I was staying with if I were right at home. Anything I needed she was always right there to assist me. The breakfast she cooked was AMAZING too...I just recommend going there with a big appetite because she will definitely feed you well! :)

Can't beat it

5 on May 21, 2011

What a great B&B. Ron's cooking is exceeded only by the hospitality of Prudence. A great value. We've stayed in about 15 B&B, and this one is in the top 1. Ken and Linda Bingham

Wonderful !!!

The B&B is beautiful. Very clean and the people that own it are very friendly. Great place to stay and great price. Great breakfast too!!!!!

Ruckman Haus B&B

4.2 on April 28, 2011

Our stay at the Ruckman Haus was very nice and restful. The breakfast was wonderful and delicious. Although Ron (the innkeeper) was there by himself, he answer all our question about golf courses, sites and information to get to destiniation we were wanting to see during the day. For a "one man show" he did great. Wonder what it is like to have the Prudence there too? Probably twice as good.

Overnight Stay

It was a beautiful, relaxing environment. The garden was beautiful. We just loved the shower (English Room). Everything was just absolutely wonderful! We wanted to get away for our second anniversary. We could not have chosen a better place. We came home two completely new people. Kenneth Johnson San Antonio TX

A gem!

5 on April 25, 2011

I was traveling for work and, basing my reservation from previous reviews, was looking for a place that was clean, quiet, relaxing (ie. off the Riverwalk), and provided a little bit of San Antonio flavor. This place was outstanding! It's tucked away in a great neighborhood, and the grounds are incredible when you pull up -- tons of gardening, a brick sidewalk, and very well-kept. The inside of the house is what made me want to stay forever, though. The entire house, which has been completely redone in the original style, is open to guests, and features patios, a garden, books, and a full kitchen with free wines and beers! The rooms are immaculate, and mine had a private patio that I enjoyed each night (with the aforementioned beer). Breakfast was incredible -- made-to-order french toast, juice, coffee, fruit, and cake one morning, and eggs, sausage, cake, yogurt, fruit, coffee, and juice the next. Basically, I'm taking a special trip back here for vacation next month just to relax, and there isn't anywhere else I'll stay in San Antonio! (Also, a great Mexican restaurant -- La Fontana -- within walking distance was recommended, and was some of the best I've ever had!)

We received true Southern Hospitality at the wonderful Ruckman Haus.

3.4 on April 22, 2011

The attic room is not for tall people. Six feet is too tall. I kept bumping my head against the ceiling and the only place I could stand up was in the middle of the room. No shower, but a nice bath tub.

5 on April 16, 2011

One of the best experiences we have ever had using a Bed and Breakfast! Ron and Prudence were the perfect hostesses. From the elegant lodging to the friendliest and helpful advice, it was just perfect. And bring your appetite!! The food was out of this world. Our stay was too short and we would most definitely come back again and again. Book your stay without hesitation...just not when we want to come back. We want a room waiting for us.

Oasis of calm

4.0 on April 16, 2011

The Ruckman Haus is beautifully decorated and maintained, in a district of historic houses. It is a little way out of the city (10 minutes by car) but an oasis of quiet and calm after a long, hot day sightseeing. The pretty garden is a lovely place to sit with a beer in the early evening! Ron's breakfasts were varied and excellent and he was helpful with local knowledge - there are also many reference books on the area in the sitting room. Good a/c system, storage space, shower and comfortable bed - what else could one ask for.

Wonderful stay at Ruckman Haus

4.8 on April 12, 2011

We very much enjoyed our stay at Ruckman Haus. The breakfasts were delicious and an overabundance of food. We enjoyed the gardens and different areas to sit outside and enjoy a glass of the complimentary wine they had available for guests. We stayed in the Sun Suite which was a very nice room but did not feel it should cost so much more than the French room which had a very nice outdoor balcony.

Great place to stay and relax

4.0 on April 07, 2011

We stayed at the Sun room and we loved it. The sound of water and wind chimes from the backyard and a nice breeze through Windows ... Ruckman haus is a great place to stay and relax and the Innkeepers Prudence and Ron are very nice people and very helpful. If we're back in San Antonio and the Sun Room is available, that's where we will be staying.

Just like home...only better!

4.8 on March 30, 2011

Ruckman Hous features gorgeous international themed rooms. Your hosts, Ron & Prudence offer friendly hospitality at every opportunity. Your hosts are naturals, and there for every comfort you need. The attention to detail is amazing. From decoration to convenience, every nuance is thought-out. The antique filled house rooms have a private feel, and the feel is classic but fresh. Ruckman Hous was the best part of our stay in San Antonio.

March Madness Weekend

4.8 on March 30, 2011

Although we arrived on the weekend of college basketball playoffs and the town was full of "partiers" it didn't bother us because we were outside the "March Madness" staying at a fine B&B, the Ruckman Haus. We enjoyed the wonderful accommodations and fine breakfast dining. The hospitality of Prudence and Ron was outstanding and above our expectations. You can't miss by staying here.

4.0 on March 24, 2011

This was my 2nd visit to the Ruckman Haus. And I will be returning! The rooms are very comfortable, decorated with a sense of style, your hosts, Ron & Prudence are fun and helpful and the breakfasts are very yummy! The living room is very welcoming and the entire house is decorated with lots of nice paintings and antiques. All in all, it gives a very comfortable feeling, never ostentatious or snooty. Ron & Prudence are very down to earth, as well. Don't let the location, which is slightly north of the downtown area dissuade you. It takes less than 10 min to get to anywhere downtown, which I have found by experience is about the same time (if not less) than it takes to get your car from a standard hotel's valet parking. Being north of the city, they are also a few minutes closer to the airport and away from downtown traffic, which, if you haven't been to San Antonio in a while, can be a bit busier than you remember. The neighborhood is nice... and on the quiet side. I parked on the side street next to the house on this trip and in the Ruckman's gated lot on my previous trip. Breakfast was served earlier than they have listed, at my request, without any issue. And it was made with an appreciation for the diner's eye as much for the palate. In other words, it looked as good as it tasted. They also worked with me on a special dietary need. I stayed in the Luxembourg Room which is VERY comfortable for one person and I am sure would be quite comfortable for most couples. It may be smaller than their other rooms but it is in no way cramped. In general, I would say that the pictures on do not do them justice. I have stayed at many B&B's in Europe and the US. For me, the European ones are, on average better than US ones. The Ruckman Haus is the clear exception! I wish it could be cloned!

Our Favorite Bed and Breakfast

5 on March 21, 2011

We have stayed at Ruckman Haus twice. Both times, Ron and Prudence were fantastic. Their B&B is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and appointed with every ammenity. From the three head massaging shower in our room (The English Room) to the complimentary wine in the kitchen, this place has it all. The crowning jewel, in our opinion, is the breakfast that Ron prepares each morning. Ron should have been a gourmet chef....the breakfast is really THAT good!!! We will continue to stay at Ruckman Haus when we visit San Antonio.

great first experience

5 on March 17, 2011

This was our first time staying at a B&B and we could not have loved it more! Our room was beautiful and comfortable. The food was delicious. And Ron and Prudence were very welcoming. We will definitely be staying again!

Outstanding Experience

5 on March 16, 2011

Great hospitality and great food (you're quite a cook, Ron) We also loved the unexpected "help yourself to whatever you'd like in the kitchen" which included a nice selection of wine and beer. The bed was comfortable and the multi-jet shower was fantastic. Ron gave us good tips for what to do on the Riverwalk (a short drive from the B&B). Excellent experience. We'd love to come back.

5 on March 16, 2011

This was my first time staying at a B&B and it was wonderful. Everything about this B&B was great. What you see in the pictures is what you get and then some!! The food was wonderful, the innkeepers were so nice and helpful. I don't think I will ever stay in a hotel again. Next time I got to San Antonio I know where I'm staying. Thanks so much Ruckmans. You guys made my trip that much more enjoyable.

The house is terrific -- beautifully decorated, homey, comfortable. Ron's breakfasts are irresistible and last all day (literally -- we skipped lunch twice during our stay). Prudence is a wonderful person who will help you find what you want to find and provide great ideas for things to do. We stayed a week and were sorry to leave. The perfect break from a snowy winter. -- Monique and Mike

always wonderful

5 on February 01, 2011

We have stayed at this BnB several times over the past 3 years. The owners are like family and treat us the same we love it. The breakfast are to die for and you better bring your "big" pants because you will gain a pound or two! Maybe 10. But it is worth it! If ever in the San Antonio area stay here! No reason to look anywhere else.

Better than any other B&B

5 on January 31, 2011

My wife and I have stayed in probably every room. The first time we stayed was for our engagment, then we stayed again on our wedding night and about two/three additional times. The house is beautiful and each room is speacial and perfect in its own way. The best part for my wife is the breakfast that Ron makes, AMAZING everytime. Ron and Prudence are wonderful people and we can't wait to stay again. The crazy part is that my wife and I now live in San Antonio and plan on staying againg soon when I return from deployment. Exceeds all expectations.

Excellent B&B

4.8 on January 21, 2011

We stayed at the Ruckman House, in the Luxembourg Room, a couple of years ago (I should have written my review then) and it was extremely nice. We had our own balcony too, and enjoyed listening to the birds in the morning. The bed was wonderful. We would stay there again with any hesitatation. The owners are very nice and were very welcoming to us, and Mr. Ruckman gave us some very good tips on places to visit.

We'll be back!

January 2011 I brought my boyfriend to Ruckman house to celebrate his birthday this year. We absolutely loved it. Prudence was a sweetheart; she reminded me of having my mom in the house. She was so sweet to meet us at the door. She let us know of restaurants and 'to-do's' in the area as we checked in. We stayed in the the English Room at the top of the first flight of stairs. The room was beautiful. We had our own air/heater unit, which was great! Before our dinner we had champagne in the study and were able to look around at all of the little homey details. To top it off, in the morning Prudence made some of the best waffles I've ever had topped with an overload of fresh fruit---delicious! We'll be back when the weather is warm and we can enjoy the many patios under huge shady trees this house has to offer.

Wonderful experience at Ruckman Haus

4.6 on January 18, 2011

As a Christmas present, I got my boyfriend tickets to a Spurs game, so we decided to spend the night in San Antonio. After researching a ton of different B&Bs in SA, I found Ruckman Haus. The reviews were all pretty stellar so we decided to give it a try. We picked the English Room (mainly for the shower with body jets) and booked our reservation. Due to some timing issues, we were not able to check in during normal hours but Prudence was extremely flexible and allowed us to come in later. When we arrived, the house was beautifully decorated. Looked spic and span. Though the hardwood floors were a bit creaky, everything else was so quaint and homey. Our room was the perfect size. Comfortable bed, lots of room for all our luggage and a spotless bathroom (the shower was awesome - I want one now!). In the morning, we were treated to a three course breakfast - baked grapefruit, bacon/cheese/tomato frittatas and lemon poundcake with strawberries. Everything tasted delicious and Prudence was extremely sweet - such a good hostess. I would definitely recommend Ruckman Haus. We are going to go back for sure!

This was our second stay at Ruckman Haus this year and once again we were sorry to have to leave. Ron & Prudence make you feel at home with ease and have been very helpful in planning our day trips around town. Having stayed in many B&B's in the states and Europe this is one that makes you want to come back. We stayed in the Sun room which is a great setup with your own rooftop deck to relax on. Great food nice folks check it out.

We made the right choice!

Prudence & Uncle Ron (owners) were great. Breakfast was awesome, and unlike some B&B(s) the wife and myself have stayed in they were very friendy and socialable. We stayed in the English Room and it was nicely done. Very nice stay and no question where were gonna stay anytime were in or close to San Antonio. Buck

51st Wedding anniversary in home city:

4.8 on December 16, 2010

My wife and I visited six different B&B's in San Antonio downtown area before choosing the Ruckman Haus. Prudence genuine warmth reflected best the impeccable house and surroundings. We have been to really charming B&B's, especially in the Northeast Maine coast, but the Ruckman Haus has become our home city getaway. The front and side garden were still attractive despite early December. The French room was very charming with tasteful, appropriate decor. The large private deck was wonderful and quiet enough to hear the attractive and calming garden water feature. Listening to the water feature was great for sleeping. The breakfasts were special, and Ron gladly accommodated my wifes gluten intolerance, and my love for pastery. Lots of fresh fruit was always included in the breakfast menu. Ron and Prudence were very helpful with best places to park, nearby restaurants, farmers markets, etc. Despite our living here in San Antonio twelve years our experience at the Ruckman Haus has added a wonderful dimension to our life in our home city.

Great atmosphere and breakfast in San Antonio.

4.6 on December 09, 2010

We spent two nights in the Highlands Room and two nights in the Luxembourg Room. We liked the character and look of the Highlands, and the neat cast-iron tub with high quality fixtures. The Luxembourg was a good stay as well, with a very relaxing veranda with a great view. Breakfast was above our expectations, and the hosts couldn't have been more friendly as well as professional. We'd definitely recommend and stay here again!

From the moment we arrived everything was just perfect. Our son was graduating from BMT at Lackland AFB and we wanted something quiet, and cozy unlike the big hotels at the Riverwalk district. Prudence was very helpful in giving good directions and telling us about great places to eat in the surrounding neighborhood. Our absolute favorite was La Fonda Mexican Restaurant within walking distance. We stayed in the French Room which is even prettier in person. The shower is awesome, and they even have nice thick terry clothe robes to lounge in. The outside gardens are just beautiful, and I must say the breakfast Ron prepares is amazing! Our first morning my husband and I were served sweet cantalope with shaved chocolate , eggs benedict, pound cake, orange juice and the best cup of coffee!! Best deal in town free breakfast, free parking and awesome hospitality. We would love to return.

This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast and was it ever more than we expected! Ron and Prudence were the best host we could of asked for. They were very friendly and helpful. We road our Harley to San Antonio and there was a little bit of rain over night so we weren't sure if we should ride the next day so we decided to stay localy, Prudence offered up some bus passes witched turned out perfectly. We will definately stay at the Ruckman Haus again.

Great place to stay when in San Antonio

4.6 on October 28, 2010

My wife and I are from Singapore and were visiting San Antonio for the first time. Made a search on places to stay but was attracted at the prospect of staying at a B&B; so we decided on the Ruckman Haus. Our experience was great! Loved the room and the hospitality. The added advantage of free gated parking was a big plus. Even the shower was great! Hope to be back again.

Only got to stay one night, wish it could have been a week!

5 on October 20, 2010

I grew up in San Antonio and was back for a high school reunion. I knew I wanted to stay somewhere in the vicinity of Brackenridge Park, as the event was held at the Witte Museum. The house is beautiful and the location has good access to many parts of San Antonio. Ruckman Haus would schedule for one night on the week-end, which is what I needed and the only room left had both a queen sized bed and a day bed, which was perfect and I invited a friend, who was attending the reunion, to stay with me. They didn't charge extra for the extra person, which was nice, although I would have been happy to have done so. Breakfast included perfectly prepared eggs benedict and the conversation around the table was friendly and interesting. I don't stay in B&Bs very often, but this experience made me more open to the B&B option when I travel. Prudence & Ron were gracious and helpful.

Wonderful house in an area with many beautiful homes

4.2 on October 20, 2010

We stayed 2 nights in the Highlands room which is a very pleasant and spacious room. We could also use the large living room which offered many books on the state. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. We also liked relaxing with a glass of wine and unwinding after a busy day of exploring the city.

A wonderful anniversary stay!

5 on October 15, 2010

We recently celebrated our 33rd anniversary at the Ruckman Haus. We've stayed at numerous B&Bs around the states and this one is definitely at the top of our list for quality, service and value! We had a free bottle of champagne awaiting us upon check-in and a wonderful full breakfast in the morning. It's in a pretty quiet neighborhood with secure parking. I personally loved the beautiful foilage around the grounds and the sound of the waterfall in the sideyard was nice. We would definitely stay here again!

Great first B&B experience!

5 on October 13, 2010

We really enjoyed staying at Ruckman Haus. It was our first time at a B&B and it made us want to try it again next time instead of a hotel. The food was delicious and the rooms were homey. I especially enjoyed petting Callie the cat (Guest Relations) and seeing Cassie the dog (Security). We highly recommend Ruckman Haus.

5 on September 29, 2010

We knew it would be a pretty place from the internet pictures, but had no idea that the cuisine and lodging was so spectacular! We are already planning our next visit. The Ruckman's are master hosts! The breakfasts were excellent, and the room was so comfortable with very fine bedding and bath accessories. I can't say enough about the whole experience!

Outstanding! Clean! Already Booked 2nd Stay!

5 on September 29, 2010

Ron and Prudence were kind, warm and treated us like royalty. This was our first B&B experience. We have already booked our 2nd stay over Thanksgiving weekend. We stayed in the Luxembourg suite, which is their smallest room. It had plenty of space for luggage, a VERY comfortable bed, super soft towels and a clean bathroom and shower. The nicest thing about the room was that it opened onto a semi private deck with comfortable furniture and beautiful flowers. Ron's breakfast was to die for- vanilla french toast, fresh berries, sausage and real maple syrup! Fresh tasty coffee and orange juice, too. You can easily drive to downtown in just a few minutes and park or take a taxi cab (we did) and pay about $8 each way. My hubby and I highly recommend staying with Ron and Prudence!

honeymoon getaway

5 on September 09, 2010

We couldn't believe the quality the Ruckman's produced for such a reasonable rate! Our first morning there included a three course breakfast, the bed was heavenly, and the bath towels were all super thick. She even provided my husband's favorite beverage for us, chilled in our room! We felt like the Ruckman's went out of their way to make us feel welcome, but I have a strong feeling they are that way to all their guest! We can't wait to go back!

Wonderfully remodelled 100 y/o home with beautiful lush grounds including a waterfall feature. Sun Room suite had a private rooftop deck accessed from the room via a spiral staircase. Shower had multiple shower heads, a really relaxing feature. Breakfast was great...more than enough and soooo good (Ron made french toast ). Ron and Prudence were so friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay.

Our home away from home.

I am normally a boutique hotel lover, but every single time we are in San Antonio, we make sure to stay at Ruckman Haus. It is so fabulous that I don't even consider going elsewhere. We have been staying at this bed and breakfast for over three years. I love it so much that I have brought my college roommate, my grandmother, my friend from Germany, and my father to enjoy this special place. Ruckman Haus is located in an historic part of San Antonio brimming with architecture, quaint little restaurants and coffee shops. If downtown is your scene, a six dollar cab ride will get you there in minutes. The house has been restored beautifully while keeping true to the integrity of its history. What I especially love is that it does not have a shred of the Victorian lacy embellishments that so many bed and breakfasts resort to. It is simple and comfortable elegance. There is complimentary wine, beer and margaritas that you can enjoy while relaxing on your deck, rooftop patio or in the lush surroundings of Prudence's garden. In the morning you can plan your day while being treated to Ron's ample and delicious breakfast. Even better, you can always count on an appreciative purr by the lovely resident cat Callie. The beds and linen are comfortable bliss, and each rooms has its own perks an charms. The Highlands Room is excellent for a small family because it has two beds, and those who adore claw foot tubs as much as i do are in for a treat. The English Room is understated and classic with a large shower that has massaging jets. The French Room has a large balcony deck and the Sun Room has a rooftop deck. There is one other room that I haven't stayed in, but I believe it is a smaller room that has access to a balcony deck. There is definitely something for everyone. Five stars are hard to come by in my reviews. I give 5 stars to Ruckman Haus without a single reservation. It truly is a special property and a complete steal for the price.

Southern Texas Comfort

Ron and Prudence have done a great job with this beautiful home. We felt very much at home and they were there to help with places to go and directions to get there. The breakfast was outstanding and the conversation around the table was as well. We have stayed at many B & B's and this one ranks in our top five

Beautiful B&B

I must say this was one of the most beautiful B&Bs that we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot. The bedroom was very comfortable, the breakfast great, and Ron and Prudence very helpful. You will definately enjoy a stay at the Ruckman Haus.

Absolutely the Best!!

5 on November 24, 2009

My husband and I stayed here for our 10 year anniversary and this was our very first B&B experience. Can I say that it was absolutely fabulous. We stayed in the Luxembourg Room and it was beautiful. The bed was the best that I have ever slept in. The shower in the bathroom was big enough for two and has 2 different shower heads for your convenience. Ron and Prudence were fabulous host. They gave us suggestions on where to visit, eat and do while we were in San Antonio. The breakfast each morning was so good and filling that most days we didn't even want lunch. We stayed at another B&B after we left this one and were so disappointed that we wanted to go back to Ruckman. If you want the ultimate B&B experience you must stay at Ruckman Haus. The pictures do not do this house any justice, it is far more beautiful on the inside and the outside!

charming B&B

4.8 on November 11, 2009

I stayed here for a Sunday & Monday evening. Breakfasts are to die for. Why eat the rest of the day? The English room was very comfortable but I did hear some street noise at night (I'm a light sleeper). Ron was especially helpful giving me driving directions & where to park for my visit to the northern part (the newer part) of the Riverwalk. One reason I picked this B&B was because of the charming patio which I had planned to sit & read. I didn't have a chance to do so, though. I would stay here again.

The Ruckman Haus was the perfect place for us when my husband graduated from BMT at Lackland AFB. I wanted to find somewhere that he could come to relax. The room was beautiful, clean, comfortable. We had the French room which has a nice balcony that overlooks the beautiful garden. The Ruckmans were very hospitable and accomodating. They served breakfast to us later in the morning so that my husband could join us, and they woke up early the next day to serve us before church on Sunday. They were friendly and thought of all the extras. Prudence gave us maps of San Antonio and showed us where to park downtown. She recommended many restaurants in the area. If all of this wasn't enough, the price is what tops it off. I thought their prices were great to begin with, but they also offer a military discount, which made it hard to beat! They definitely do it right! If we ever return to San Antonio we will stay here again!

Relaxing on the River

4.8 on September 10, 2009

We pulled into town after a long hot drive to a really great home to relax and enjoy San Antonio. We were warmly treated and served substantial and tasty breakfasts that held up till dinner time. Ron and Prudence had great tips for visiting, sights and meals. The home is within easy driving distance of all the sights and is in an interesting neighboorhood. We will definitley stay next time we are in town.

Nice weekend getaway

5 on July 22, 2009

I was very pleased with my stay. No where else would let you stay for one night, you had to stay for 2 or more but they allowed you to stay for 1 night for just $20 more. The breakfast was delicious. Prudence said her husband usually did the cooking, but he was out of town. I never would have known. We had homemade waffles with a huge pile of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and bananas on it and sausage. It was sooo good, and i don't usually eat breakfast. The house was very nice too. There was a large living area/library with so many books to read about the area. I would stay here again.

You've gotta stay here!

We visited the Ruckman Haus over Memorial Day weekend and fell in love with this bed and breakfast! We stayed in the Sun Room which has a fantastic rooftop balcony that is accessed only by this room. We enjoyed sitting out there at night and early morning. The gardens around this house are beautiful too! The innkeepers, Ron and Prudence, were a delight and the food was amazing! We can't wait for another excuse to visit the Ruckman Haus again! Ashley & Ray

First trip to San Antonio

5 on June 03, 2009

I read the reviews before the trip and I must say they are all correct. This is truly a wonderful place to stay. We wish we could have stayed longer. The hospitality was beyond our expectations. We moved to a hotel for a wedding and Ron even gave us a ride! We certainly will recommend a stay here to anyone visiting San Antonio.

One of the Best

5 on February 23, 2009

My wife and I have stayed at a number of B&B's over the years, and hands down, this has been one of the best ever. We stayed in the French room which very comfortable and decorated impeccably. Ron and Prudence are very gracious hosts and provided us with suggestions for restaurants as well as places to visit. Make sure you bring an appetite as the breakfasts are huge as well as delicious. The Ruckman Haus could serve as a guide as to how to do it right, for those wanting to get into the B&B business.

"Welcome to Old San Antonio"

5 on October 14, 2008

Comfortable old home minutes from downtown San Antonio. The house is yours when you stay. Spacious living room & patio. Good local restaurants nearby.

Sunroom is Great!

5 on September 26, 2008

We stayed in the Sunroom. It is a great place to escape to. This room has a bedroom, sitting area with a mini kitchenette area in between. But the best part is where the spiral staircase takes you to...a private rooftop patio. We had champagne in the room when we arrived and enjoyed it on the patio looking at the stars. It doesn't get much more romantic than that. We've been here a couple times and always have had great service. The breakfasts are fantastic. Always too much food to eat. And, Ron and Prudence give you access to their great collection of wine...have as much as you want.

Great location & amenities

5 on September 20, 2008

I stayed here for a few days while on business. The only room available was the smallest and honestly, that was all I needed as a business traveler who was also moving to the area within weeks of my visit. Breakfast was always tasty and filling and the conversations were lively and informative. (The house was filled with visiting educators and artists from around the state during the week I was there.) Ron and Prudence were absolutely fantastic hosts with a veritable treasure trove of local info from where to get the best coffee (Olmos Perk), great local restaurants/bars (Lion & Rose, Cappy's), drycleaning, grocers, etc. The location can't be beat and if you love classical furnishings and great art, you will want to return often!

Highly Recommended

This was our four year wedding anniversary. My husband and I had never stayed in a B&B before and our stay was awesome. The room was very clean, the jet shower was great, and the breakfast in the morning was very filling and delicious. Ron and Prudence (innkeepers) were very nice and made us feel at home. We will definitely be going back to the Ruckman Haus.

Great hospitality!

5 on January 22, 2008

Visited about a year ago-- LOVED the Ruckman Haus! My husband and I stayed in the smallest room, but for $85 a night, it was well worth it! Ron and Prudence (the inkeepers) were very friendly-- both breakfasts were FANTATSTIC and made to order-- no buffet line or sharing dishes. We've since stayed in 2 other B&B's in other cities, and neither compare. Free beer, wine and they even shared their vodka:) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Wonderful Experience
