Ruckman Haus

My husband and I always plan a stay at the Ruckman Haus for our anniversary, the Ruckmans prepare perfection for breakfast after the best night's sleep and the most amazing shower in the world (in the Sun Room and English Room--body jets in the shower!) The only problem is that one night is not enough!!!

My husband and I stayed for one night in the English suite, which was charming and comfortable and had a nice multi-jet shower. (We peeked at the other rooms, which also seemed delightful - hard to choose among them!). We also enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful living room/library with a cup of tea or margarita and good reading material. The hosts, Ron and Prudence, were friendly and welcoming,, and provided good information about local sights. The breakfast was bountiful - a huge waffle with a ton of berries, on the day we were there, though other options were possible. We especially appreciated their accommodation of food allergies, as well as their generous provision of midnight snacks. Everything was very romantic! The only small minus was that our room was a bit chilly, and turning the heater up didn't seem to help - though perhaps there was a trick that we would have inquired about had we stayed another night. All in all, a very nice experience and we would definitely go back.

We send our "kids" here for their weekend honeymoon. They wee very happy. They stayed in the French room. The comment we got from them is : You have to go too. They loved the view of the back yard - my son comapared the view to his favorite place in Thailand. After I made the reservation for them I spoke to Prudence on the phone and she was "supernice". We are planning to stay for a weekend in a few month.....

It is always a pleasure to stay with Ron and Prudence. As B&B owners for over 25 years, we know that hospitality is #1. They have a first-rate facility with all the details attended to, yet it's in the hospitality department where they really shine. Not only do they make excellent recommendations, they also give you maps with detailed driving instructions. Our stay at the Ruckman Haus was delightful. The host and hostess were helpful and the food scrumptious.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Ruckman Haus and when we visit San Antonio again, will stay again. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. (have stayed in the French and this time the English) Ron & Prudence are very friendly and helpful and breakfast was wonderful! We love the atmosphere and the location is great as well!

The owners are very personable and provide lots of helpful suggestions to make the stay meaningful and add others for the journey onward. The breakfasts provide a varied diet of imaginative fare. They err on the side of too much food. The location is away from the Riverwalk but the area is quiet and travel to the main attractions is easy.

We had a wonderful weekend at Ruckman Haus. Our room was even larger and more comfortable than it appeared in the website photo. The warm and inviting communal living room had a large and interesting library of books to browse in the comfortable chairs. Breakfasts were delicious and enjoyable in the beautiful dining room. Both host and hostess were friendly and informative, but never intrusive. Great location.

This was our third visit to The Ruckman Haus. We were very pleased, Prudence is delightful & so very helpful. We stayed in the French Room this year.. beautiful & the patio is so relaxing. Ron served up a delicious breakfast. This is our favorite B&B & we look forward to our next stay!

This was our third stay with Prudence and Ron and they continue to do a superb job of making everyone feel welcome, comfortable, valued, and informed. From the spotless rooms and Ron's incredible breakfasts (no need for lunch!) to their valuable tips and local recommendations, Ruckman Haus is THE place to stay in San Antonio. They've made each visit so much more enjoyable and valuable.

Wonderful experience! Gourmet breakfasts, beautifully presented. The hosts were exceptionally helpful in providing suggestions and driving directions to area sites.

We loved the Ruckman house decor and patios, and Prudence was very sweet to us. Clean, gorgeous rooms. Only had one meal but it was great and they were very good woriing around my lactose intolerance. We'll be back.

We are local and were looking for a quick get away. We stumbled upon the Ruckman Haus and were pleasantly surprised. Ron and Prudence were fantastic. The breakfast was very filling. The room was nice and comfortable. We are looking at making trips to the Ruckman Haus a tradition!

I highly recommend the Ruckman Haus. I spent 2 nights there recently and it was a perfect place to relax and unwind. Quiet neighborhood, close to downtown sights and shopping. Lovely landscaping, porches and fountains made it as enjoyable outside as in. And the breakfasts were absolutely delicious! A wonderful value for the price.

A wonderful gem. Hosts are very accommodating, but never intrusive. Rooms are very comfortable, and very clean. Beautiful decor and top of the line linens on the beds. I enjoyed my 3 night stay there immensely.

Stayed for 3 nights in mid-September in the Luxembourg room. The room, ensuite bathroom and shared deck were all better than I had imagined they would be, and I enjoyed the lounge with it's array of guidebooks and reading material. Ron and Pru were fantastic hosts, who couldn't have been more hospitable, and the breakfasts were truly a delicious feast!

We stayed for 3 nights in the lovely "French Room" which had a shared deck overlooking the garden and private parking area. The room was delightful, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We were warmly greeted on arrival, and given very helpful (written) information about local neighbourhood restaurants, and clear instructions re driving into downtown area and best parking options. Breakfasts were excellent. Prudence and Ron were superb hosts, who offered complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks, and were delightful to talk with. Ruckman Haus was a real find and helped make our stay in San Antonio extremely relaxing and enjoyable.

Breakfasts were well prepared, varied and tasty and more than we could eat. House and gardens are immaculate, well designed, tastefully decorated and relaxing. The hosts cannot do enough for their guests. Truly a wonderful and welcoming B&B that we highly recommend.

Wonderful place to go. Very comfortable & feels like a home away from home. Breakfast was great and made hot just for each person. I have been to some that make everything at once & you can come anytime to get it but this place makes it just for you so it is not sitting around. Room was beautiful & clean. I took a chance on the Ruckman Haus based on the web site & location only a mile and a half to downtown & free parking. It couldn't have turned out better! The place is IMMACULATE! The food is not only PLENTIFUL but SCRUMPTIOUS, Ron is a great cook. I had arranged for three branches of my family to meet there for a family wedding and all weekend long the others kept telling me what a find the place is! Not only were the Ruckmans friendly and welcoming but they gave good advice as to what to hit & miss as far as sightseeing. I was stranded in San Antonio due to Hurricane Irene closing my home airport. I was welcomed for a couple of extra days and was told that if they had been booked, they would have found me a place to stay ...no scary Alfred Hitchcock Hotel out on the strip for me, no matter what. When I finally got a flight out it was to be VERY early in the AM so Ron & Prudence left me a picnic to take to the airport & had the coffee timer set so I went off on my journey fully caffeinated. I cannot recommend the Ruckman Haus highly enough. As we say in Boston, it was WICKED AWESOME! (Pissah)

This B&B is in a beautifully restored 100 year old home situated in a charming neighborhood about 5 minutes from Trinity's campus. The innkeepers were warm and gracious hosts. Our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable...with big fluffy towels and bathrobes. The small fridge in our room was stocked with water. We enjoyed a gorgeous breakfast of French toast and berries in the formal dining room with the other guests. We had a delightful experience and Ruckman Haus will be our new home whenever we visit our daughter in San Antonio.

Great value for the money. Great for a weekend getaway. Will definitely return here...

I have stayed with Ron and Pru Ruckman's B&B for years and it is the only place in San Antonio I'd stay. They are great people, the rooms are beautiful, and the location is perfect for everything from downtown shopping to sports events. I just can't say enough about the ambiance of the place; it's absolutely beautiful without being pretentious, a wonderful calming retreat.

The Ruckman Haus was a great place to stay. It was our 43rd anniversary and Ron had a cold bottle of sparkling wine for us. Ron cooked the breakfast and it was wonderful. Prudence gave great directions to everywhere we wanted to go. We stayed in the French Room and it was very comfortable. We will return soon.

The Ruckman Haus has a very scenic location. The hosts are very attentive. Breakfast was very good, and it was great to visit with other guests over such good food. The rooms were very comfortable and well apppointed. We would definitely return.

This was truly a wonderful experience. It was my wife and my first time at a B&B and it did not disappoint. From being greeted by a smiling face when first stepping in the door, to relaxing in the comfortable and beautiful rooms, to the expert knowledge Ron and Prudence offer about the number of things to do, this stay was perfect. Looking back on our trip, the decision to stay at Ruckman Haus was easily the best decision we made. The Ruckmans are absolutely wonderful hosts and really do make you feel like you are home. The room was beautiful and the food was fantastic. The location was perfect as well because it was close enough to the downtown area to allow for an inexpensive cab ride yet far enough away so that we could avoid the hustle and bustle of traffic. In the future, if we are able to return to San Antonio, my wife and I will continue to use the Ruckman Haus as our number one option for lodging.

This was our second stay at the Ruckmann Haus. We always feel so welcome and it felt this time like we were coming back to visit with our friends Ron and Prudence. The food is amazing. The house is gorgeous. You are close enough to everything you would want to see in the San Antonio area, but far enough away that it is peaceful. Ron and Prudence are great at giving directions to almost everywhere you would want to go. We are looking forward to staying with them again next year.

We really enjoyed the Sun Suite with the king size bed, sitting room, and rooftop deck. Breakfast was great and served at reasonable times (we don't like getting up too early!). Location is just minutes north of downtown, and the owners provide detailed directions to a convenient parking lot near the Riverwalk.

My 2 night stay at Ruckman Haus was suberb in every way. It actually felt like I spent the week-end with family! Ron and Prudence go to every length to make your stay there as comfortable as it can possibly be including fabulous bedding and totally comfortable beds. I will return, no doubt about it!! Susan S.

The breakfast that Ron and Prudence serve is tremendous. The location is excellent. I cannot imagine us even trying somewhere else. The room is outstanding. Ron and Prudence are very good hosts and they sat with us and talked to us for a long time at breakfast which we liked. They are just very good people. The grounds are outstanding as well except that we wanted to do other stuff so we didn't spend much time out there.

WOW! We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our trip to SA. Ron and Prudence made our stay in San Antonio fun, informative, and very comfortable. They are gracious hosts with a great knowledge of SA as well as Texas history. They recommended great places to eat and visit in the city as well as the surrounding hill country. The pictures don't do the place justice... the rooms and the house are Beautiful!!! It was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and it was amazing. Although the house had some creaking when you walked around it felt so homey and was so relaxing. The owner was so nice, she made me feel like I was staying with family...as if I were right at home. Anything I needed she was always right there to assist me. The breakfast she cooked was AMAZING too...I just recommend going there with a big appetite because she will definitely feed you well! :)

Our stay at the Ruckman Haus was very nice and restful. The breakfast was wonderful and delicious. Although Ron (the innkeeper) was there by himself, he answer all our question about golf courses, sites and information to get to destiniation we were wanting to see during the day. For a "one man show" he did great. Wonder what it is like to have the Prudence there too? Probably twice as good.

It was a beautiful, relaxing environment. The garden was beautiful. We just loved the shower (English Room). Everything was just absolutely wonderful! I was traveling for work and, basing my reservation from previous reviews, was looking for a place that was clean, quiet, relaxing (ie. off the Riverwalk), and provided a little bit of San Antonio flavor. This place was outstanding! It's tucked away in a great neighborhood, and the grounds are incredible when you pull up -- tons of gardening, a brick sidewalk, and very well-kept. The inside of the house is what made me want to stay forever, though. The entire house, which has been completely redone in the original style, is open to guests, and features patios, a garden, books, and a full kitchen with free wines and beers! The rooms are immaculate, and mine had a private patio that I enjoyed each night (with the aforementioned beer). Breakfast was incredible -- made-to-order french toast, juice, coffee, fruit, and cake one morning, and eggs, sausage, cake, yogurt, fruit, coffee, and juice the next. Basically, I'm taking a special trip back here for vacation next month just to relax, and there isn't anywhere else I'll stay in San Antonio! (Also, a great Mexican restaurant -- La Fontana -- within walking distance was recommended, and was some of the best I've ever had!)

We received true Southern Hospitality at the wonderful Ruckman Haus.

The attic room is not for tall people. Six feet is too tall. I kept bumping my head against the ceiling and the only place I could stand up was in the middle of the room. No shower, but a nice bath tub.

One of the best experiences we have ever had using a Bed and Breakfast! Ron and Prudence were the perfect hostesses. From the elegant lodging to the friendliest and helpful advice, it was just perfect. And bring your appetite!! The food was out of this world. Our stay was too short and we would most definitely come back again and again. Book your stay without hesitation...just not when we want to come back. We want a room waiting for us.

The Ruckman Haus is beautifully decorated and maintained, in a district of historic houses. It is a little way out of the city (10 minutes by car) but an oasis of quiet and calm after a long, hot day sightseeing. The pretty garden is a lovely place to sit with a beer in the early evening! Ron's breakfasts were varied and excellent and he was helpful with local knowledge - there are also many reference books on the area in the sitting room. Good a/c system, storage space, shower and comfortable bed - what else could one ask for.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Ruckman Haus. The breakfasts were delicious and an overabundance of food. We enjoyed the gardens and different areas to sit outside and enjoy a glass of the complimentary wine they had available for guests. We stayed in the Sun Suite which was a very nice room but did not feel it should cost so much more than the French room which had a very nice outdoor balcony.

We stayed at the Sun room and we loved it. The sound of water and wind chimes from the backyard and a nice breeze through Windows ... Ruckman haus is a great place to stay and relax and the Innkeepers Prudence and Ron are very nice people and very helpful. If we're back in San Antonio and the Sun Room is available, that's where we will be staying.

Ruckman Hous features gorgeous international themed rooms. Your hosts, Ron & Prudence offer friendly hospitality at every opportunity. Your hosts are naturals, and there for every comfort you need. The attention to detail is amazing. From decoration to convenience, every nuance is thought-out. The antique filled house rooms have a private feel, and the feel is classic but fresh. Ruckman Hous was the best part of our stay in San Antonio.

Although we arrived on the weekend of college basketball playoffs and the town was full of "partiers" it didn't bother us because we were outside the "March Madness" staying at a fine B&B, the Ruckman Haus. We enjoyed the wonderful accommodations and fine breakfast dining. The hospitality of Prudence and Ron was outstanding and above our expectations. You can't miss by staying here.

This was my 2nd visit to the Ruckman Haus. And I will be returning! The rooms are very comfortable, decorated with a sense of style, your hosts, Ron & Prudence are fun and helpful and the breakfasts are very yummy! The living room is very welcoming and the entire house is decorated with lots of nice paintings and antiques. All in all, it gives a very comfortable feeling, never ostentatious or snooty. Ron & Prudence are very down to earth, as well. Don't let the location, which is slightly north of the downtown area dissuade you. It takes less than 10 min to get to anywhere downtown, which I have found by experience is about the same time (if not less) than it takes to get your car from a standard hotel's valet parking. Being north of the city, they are also a few minutes closer to the airport and away from downtown traffic, which, if you haven't been to San Antonio in a while, can be a bit busier than you remember. The neighborhood is nice... and on the quiet side. I parked on the side street next to the house on this trip and in the Ruckman's gated lot on my previous trip. Breakfast was served earlier than they have listed, at my request, without any issue. And it was made with an appreciation for the diner's eye as much for the palate. In other words, it looked as good as it tasted. They also worked with me on a special dietary need. I stayed in the Luxembourg Room which is VERY comfortable for one person and I am sure would be quite comfortable for most couples. It may be smaller than their other rooms but it is in no way cramped. In general, I would say that the pictures on www.ruckmanhaus.com do not do them justice. I have stayed at many B&B's in Europe and the US. For me, the European ones are, on average better than US ones. The Ruckman Haus is the clear exception! I wish it could be cloned!

We have stayed at Ruckman Haus twice. Both times, Ron and Prudence were fantastic. Their B&B is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and appointed with every ammenity. From the three head massaging shower in our room (The English Room) to the complimentary wine in the kitchen, this place has it all. The crowning jewel, in our opinion, is the breakfast that Ron prepares each morning. Ron should have been a gourmet chef....the breakfast is really THAT good!!! We will continue to stay at Ruckman Haus when we visit San Antonio.

Great hospitality and great food (you're quite a cook, Ron) We also loved the unexpected "help yourself to whatever you'd like in the kitchen" which included a nice selection of wine and beer. The bed was comfortable and the multi-jet shower was fantastic. Ron gave us good tips for what to do on the Riverwalk (a short drive from the B&B). Excellent experience. We'd love to come back.

This was my first time staying at a B&B and it was wonderful. Everything about this B&B was great. What you see in the pictures is what you get and then some!! The food was wonderful, the innkeepers were so nice and helpful. I don't think I will ever stay in a hotel again. Next time I got to San Antonio I know where I'm staying. Thanks so much Ruckmans. You guys made my trip that much more enjoyable.

We had a wonderful stay at the Ruckman Haus. We felt and home and welcomed, but had enough privacy, too. The weather was perfect to enjoy our balcony. The breakfasts Ron makes are worth the stay alone!

Prudence and Ron (and Callie the Cat!) are terrific hosts in this cozy B&B. The English room was very comfortable, with a luxurious bathroom.

The house is terrific -- beautifully decorated, homey, comfortable. Ron's breakfasts are irresistible and last all day (literally -- we skipped lunch twice during our stay). Prudence is a wonderful person who will help you find what you want to find and provide great ideas for things to do. We stayed a week and were sorry to leave. We have stayed at this BnB several times over the past 3 years. The owners are like family and treat us the same we love it. The breakfast are to die for and you better bring your "big" pants because you will gain a pound or two! Maybe 10. But it is worth it! If ever in the San Antonio area stay here! No reason to look anywhere else.

My wife and I have stayed in probably every room. The first time we stayed was for our engagment, then we stayed again on our wedding night and about two/three additional times. The house is beautiful and each room is speacial and perfect in its own way. The best part for my wife is the breakfast that Ron makes, AMAZING everytime. Ron and Prudence are wonderful people and we can't wait to stay again. The crazy part is that my wife and I now live in San Antonio and plan on staying againg soon when I return from deployment. Exceeds all expectations.

We stayed at the Ruckman House, in the Luxembourg Room, a couple of years ago (I should have written my review then) and it was extremely nice. We had our own balcony too, and enjoyed listening to the birds in the morning. The bed was wonderful. We would stay there again with any hesitatation. The owners are very nice and were very welcoming to us, and Mr. Ruckman gave us some very good tips on places to visit.

January 2011 I brought my boyfriend to Ruckman house to celebrate his birthday this year. We absolutely loved it. Prudence was a sweetheart; she reminded me of having my mom in the house. She was so sweet to meet us at the door. She let us know of restaurants and 'to-do's' in the area as we checked in. We stayed in the the English Room at the top of the first flight of stairs. The room was beautiful. We had our own air/heater unit, which was great! Before our dinner we had champagne in the study and were able to look around at all of the little homey details. To top it off, in the morning Prudence made some of the best waffles I've ever had topped with an overload of fresh fruit---delicious! We'll be back when the weather is warm and we can enjoy the many patios under huge shady trees this house has to offer.

As a Christmas present, I got my boyfriend tickets to a Spurs game, so we decided to spend the night in San Antonio. After researching a ton of different B&Bs in SA, I found Ruckman Haus. The reviews were all pretty stellar so we decided to give it a try. We picked the English Room (mainly for the shower with body jets) and booked our reservation. Due to some timing issues, we were not able to check in during normal hours but Prudence was extremely flexible and allowed us to come in later. When we arrived, the house was beautifully decorated. Looked spic and span. Though the hardwood floors were a bit creaky, everything else was so quaint and homey. Our room was the perfect size. Comfortable bed, lots of room for all our luggage and a spotless bathroom (the shower was awesome - I want one now!). In the morning, we were treated to a three course breakfast - baked grapefruit, bacon/cheese/tomato frittatas and lemon poundcake with strawberries. Everything tasted delicious and Prudence was extremely sweet - such a good hostess. I would definitely recommend Ruckman Haus. We are going to go back for sure!

The Ruckmans are wonderful hosts and they do everything they can to make sure you are comfortable. The rooms are beautiful and clean. The breakfasts were wonderful. The Ruckmans are also very knowledgeable about great places to eat and shop around town. We'll be staying there again for sure.

This was our second stay at Ruckman Haus this year and once again we were sorry to have to leave. Ron & Prudence make you feel at home with ease and have been very helpful in planning our day trips around town. Having stayed in many B&B's in the states and Europe this is one that makes you want to come back. We stayed in the Sun room which is a great setup with your own rooftop deck to relax on. Prudence & Uncle Ron (owners) were great. Breakfast was awesome, and unlike some B&B(s) the wife and myself have stayed in they were very friendy and socialable. My wife and I visited six different B&B's in San Antonio downtown area before choosing the Ruckman Haus. Prudence genuine warmth reflected best the impeccable house and surroundings. We have been to really charming B&B's, especially in the Northeast Maine coast, but the Ruckman Haus has become our home city getaway. The front and side garden were still attractive despite early December. The French room was very charming with tasteful, appropriate decor. The large private deck was wonderful and quiet enough to hear the attractive and calming garden water feature. Listening to the water feature was great for sleeping. The breakfasts were special, and Ron gladly accommodated my wifes gluten intolerance, and my love for pastery. Lots of fresh fruit was always included in the breakfast menu. Ron and Prudence were very helpful with best places to park, nearby restaurants, farmers markets, etc. Despite our living here in San Antonio twelve years our experience at the Ruckman Haus has added a wonderful dimension to our life in our home city.

We spent two nights in the Highlands Room and two nights in the Luxembourg Room. We liked the character and look of the Highlands, and the neat cast-iron tub with high quality fixtures. The Luxembourg was a good stay as well, with a very relaxing veranda with a great view. Breakfast was above our expectations, and the hosts couldn't have been more friendly as well as professional. We'd definitely recommend and stay here again!

Ron and Pru are GREAT Hosts. Breakfasts that got you going and kept you going all day. Beautiful home. Convenient neighborhood to downtown and far north shopping at the Rim. We had a wonderful time and will be back.

From the moment we arrived everything was just perfect. Our son was graduating from BMT at Lackland AFB and we wanted something quiet, and cozy unlike the big hotels at the Riverwalk district. Prudence was very helpful in giving good directions and telling us about great places to eat in the surrounding neighborhood. Our absolute favorite was La Fonda Mexican Restaurant within walking distance. We stayed in the French Room which is even prettier in person. The shower is awesome, and they even have nice thick terry clothe robes to lounge in. The outside gardens are just beautiful, and I must say the breakfast Ron prepares is amazing! Our first morning my husband and I were served sweet cantalope with shaved chocolate , eggs benedict, pound cake, orange juice and the best cup of coffee!! Best deal in town free breakfast, free parking and awesome hospitality. We would love to return.

We truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful B&B - would HIGHLY recommend it as an alternative to the pricey River Walk hotels. It's only 2 miles away, and well worth every penny.

This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast and was it ever more than we expected! Ron and Prudence were the best host we could of asked for. They were very friendly and helpful. We road our Harley to San Antonio and there was a little bit of rain over night so we weren't sure if we should ride the next day so we decided to stay localy, Prudence offered up some bus passes witched turned out perfectly. We will definately stay at the Ruckman Haus again.

My wife and I are from Singapore and were visiting San Antonio for the first time. Made a search on places to stay but was attracted at the prospect of staying at a B&B; so we decided on the Ruckman Haus. Our experience was great! Loved the room and the hospitality. The added advantage of free gated parking was a big plus. Even the shower was great! Hope to be back again.

I grew up in San Antonio and was back for a high school reunion. I knew I wanted to stay somewhere in the vicinity of Brackenridge Park, as the event was held at the Witte Museum. The house is beautiful and the location has good access to many parts of San Antonio. Ruckman Haus would schedule for one night on the week-end, which is what I needed and the only room left had both a queen sized bed and a day bed, which was perfect and I invited a friend, who was attending the reunion, to stay with me. They didn't charge extra for the extra person, which was nice, although I would have been happy to have done so. Breakfast included perfectly prepared eggs benedict and the conversation around the table was friendly and interesting. I don't stay in B&Bs very often, but this experience made me more open to the B&B option when I travel. Prudence & Ron were gracious and helpful.

We stayed 2 nights in the Highlands room which is a very pleasant and spacious room. We could also use the large living room which offered many books on the state. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. We also liked relaxing with a glass of wine and unwinding after a busy day of exploring the city.

We recently celebrated our 33rd anniversary at the Ruckman Haus. We've stayed at numerous B&Bs around the states and this one is definitely at the top of our list for quality, service and value! We had a free bottle of champagne awaiting us upon check-in and a wonderful full breakfast in the morning. It's in a pretty quiet neighborhood with secure parking. I personally loved the beautiful foilage around the grounds and the sound of the waterfall in the sideyard was nice. We would definitely stay here again!

We really enjoyed staying at Ruckman Haus. It was our first time at a B&B and it made us want to try it again next time instead of a hotel. The food was delicious and the rooms were homey. I especially enjoyed petting Callie the cat (Guest Relations) and seeing Cassie the dog (Security). We highly recommend Ruckman Haus.

Common area was comfortable, like being at home in the living room.

We knew it would be a pretty place from the internet pictures, but had no idea that the cuisine and lodging was so spectacular! We are already planning our next visit. The Ruckman's are master hosts! The breakfasts were excellent, and the room was so comfortable with very fine bedding and bath accessories. I can't say enough about the whole experience!

Ron and Prudence were kind, warm and treated us like royalty. This was our first B&B experience. We have already booked our 2nd stay over Thanksgiving weekend. We stayed in the Luxembourg suite, which is their smallest room. It had plenty of space for luggage, a VERY comfortable bed, super soft towels and a clean bathroom and shower. The nicest thing about the room was that it opened onto a semi private deck with comfortable furniture and beautiful flowers. Ron's breakfast was to die for- vanilla french toast, fresh berries, sausage and real maple syrup! Fresh tasty coffee and orange juice, too. You can easily drive to downtown in just a few minutes and park or take a taxi cab (we did) and pay about $8 each way. My hubby and I highly recommend staying with Ron and Prudence!

We couldn't believe the quality the Ruckman's produced for such a reasonable rate! Our first morning there included a three course breakfast, the bed was heavenly, and the bath towels were all super thick. She even provided my husband's favorite beverage for us, chilled in our room! We felt like the Ruckman's went out of their way to make us feel welcome, but I have a strong feeling they are that way to all their guest! We can't wait to go back!

Truly a home away from home. The hosts are the nicest people you will ever meet. The rooms are beautiful and the food is deicious! The home is meticulously clean. I do not stay in bed and breakfasts but this sounded so perfect and I am thrilled I did-I ended up staying four nights. I have already made reservations for my future stays. A real find!

Wonderfully remodelled 100 y/o home with beautiful lush grounds including a waterfall feature. Sun Room suite had a private rooftop deck accessed from the room via a spiral staircase. Shower had multiple shower heads, a really relaxing feature. Breakfast was great...more than enough and soooo good (Ron made french toast ). Ron and Prudence were so friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay.

I am normally a boutique hotel lover, but every single time we are in San Antonio, we make sure to stay at Ruckman Haus. It is so fabulous that I don't even consider going elsewhere. We have been staying at this bed and breakfast for over three years. I love it so much that I have brought my college roommate, my grandmother, my friend from Germany, and my father to enjoy this special place. Ruckman Haus is located in an historic part of San Antonio brimming with architecture, quaint little restaurants and coffee shops. If downtown is your scene, a six dollar cab ride will get you there in minutes. The house has been restored beautifully while keeping true to the integrity of its history. What I especially love is that it does not have a shred of the Victorian lacy embellishments that so many bed and breakfasts resort to. It is simple and comfortable elegance. There is complimentary wine, beer and margaritas that you can enjoy while relaxing on your deck, rooftop patio or in the lush surroundings of Prudence's garden. In the morning you can plan your day while being treated to Ron's ample and delicious breakfast. Even better, you can always count on an appreciative purr by the lovely resident cat Callie. The beds and linen are comfortable bliss, and each rooms has its own perks an charms. The Highlands Room is excellent for a small family because it has two beds, and those who adore claw foot tubs as much as i do are in for a treat. The English Room is understated and classic with a large shower that has massaging jets. The French Room has a large balcony deck and the Sun Room has a rooftop deck. There is one other room that I haven't stayed in, but I believe it is a smaller room that has access to a balcony deck. There is definitely something for everyone. Five stars are hard to come by in my reviews. I give 5 stars to Ruckman Haus without a single reservation. It truly is a special property and a complete steal for the price.

I must say this was one of the most beautiful B&Bs that we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot. The bedroom was very comfortable, the breakfast great, and Ron and Prudence very helpful. You will definately enjoy a stay at the Ruckman Haus.

My husband and I stayed here for our 10 year anniversary and this was our very first B&B experience. Can I say that it was absolutely fabulous. We stayed in the Luxembourg Room and it was beautiful. The bed was the best that I have ever slept in. The shower in the bathroom was big enough for two and has 2 different shower heads for your convenience. Ron and Prudence were fabulous host. They gave us suggestions on where to visit, eat and do while we were in San Antonio. The breakfast each morning was so good and filling that most days we didn't even want lunch. We stayed at another B&B after we left this one and were so disappointed that we wanted to go back to Ruckman. If you want the ultimate B&B experience you must stay at Ruckman Haus. The pictures do not do this house any justice, it is far more beautiful on the inside and the outside!

I stayed here for a Sunday & Monday evening. Breakfasts are to die for. Why eat the rest of the day? The English room was very comfortable but I did hear some street noise at night (I'm a light sleeper). Ron was especially helpful giving me driving directions & where to park for my visit to the northern part (the newer part) of the Riverwalk. One reason I picked this B&B was because of the charming patio which I had planned to sit & read. I didn't have a chance to do so, though. I would stay here again.

The Ruckman Haus was the perfect place for us when my husband graduated from BMT at Lackland AFB. I wanted to find somewhere that he could come to relax. The room was beautiful, clean, comfortable. We had the French room which has a nice balcony that overlooks the beautiful garden. The Ruckmans were very hospitable and accomodating. They served breakfast to us later in the morning so that my husband could join us, and they woke up early the next day to serve us before church on Sunday. They were friendly and thought of all the extras. Prudence gave us maps of San Antonio and showed us where to park downtown. She recommended many restaurants in the area. If all of this wasn't enough, the price is what tops it off. I thought their prices were great to begin with, but they also offer a military discount, which made it hard to beat! They definitely do it right! If we ever return to San Antonio we will stay here again!

We pulled into town after a long hot drive to a really great home to relax and enjoy San Antonio. We were warmly treated and served substantial and tasty breakfasts that held up till dinner time. Ron and Prudence had great tips for visiting, sights and meals. The home is within easy driving distance of all the sights and is in an interesting neighboorhood. We will definitley stay next time we are in town.

I was very pleased with my stay. No where else would let you stay for one night, you had to stay for 2 or more but they allowed you to stay for 1 night for just $20 more. The breakfast was delicious. Prudence said her husband usually did the cooking, but he was out of town. I never would have known. We had homemade waffles with a huge pile of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and bananas on it and sausage. It was sooo good, and i don't usually eat breakfast. The house was very nice too. There was a large living area/library with so many books to read about the area. I would stay here again.

We visited the Ruckman Haus over Memorial Day weekend and fell in love with this bed and breakfast! We stayed in the Sun Room which has a fantastic rooftop balcony that is accessed only by this room. We enjoyed sitting out there at night and early morning. The gardens around this house are beautiful too! The innkeepers, Ron and Prudence, were a delight and the food was amazing! One of the most outstanding B&B's I've ever stayed in. Rooms are spacious, breakfast is filling and well prepared.Very nice innkeepers,Ron and Prudence Ruckman are friendly, welcoming and offer good help in choosing restaurants and places to go to. I Absolutely would suggest this B&B to others ! San Pedro Park is just across the B&B, you're downtown in just 6 minutes !

I read the reviews before the trip and I must say they are all correct. This is truly a wonderful place to stay. We wish we could have stayed longer. The hospitality was beyond our expectations. We moved to a hotel for a wedding and Ron even gave us a ride! We certainly will recommend a stay here to anyone visiting San Antonio.

Ron and Prudence are very gracious hosts and provided us with suggestions for restaurants as well as places to visit. Make sure you bring an appetite as the breakfasts are huge as well as delicious. The Ruckman Haus could serve as a guide as to how to do it right, for those wanting to get into the B&B business.

Comfortable old home minutes from downtown San Antonio. The house is yours when you stay. Spacious living room & patio. Good local restaurants nearby.

We stayed in the Sunroom. It is a great place to escape to. This room has a bedroom, sitting area with a mini kitchenette area in between. But the best part is where the spiral staircase takes you to...a private rooftop patio. We had champagne in the room when we arrived and enjoyed it on the patio looking at the stars. It doesn't get much more romantic than that. We've been here a couple times and always have had great service. The breakfasts are fantastic. Always too much food to eat. And, Ron and Prudence give you access to their great collection of wine...have as much as you want.

I stayed here for a few days while on business. The only room available was the smallest and honestly, that was all I needed as a business traveler who was also moving to the area within weeks of my visit. Breakfast was always tasty and filling and the conversations were lively and informative. (The house was filled with visiting educators and artists from around the state during the week I was there.) Ron and Prudence were absolutely fantastic hosts with a veritable treasure trove of local info from where to get the best coffee (Olmos Perk), great local restaurants/bars (Lion & Rose, Cappy's), drycleaning, grocers, etc. The location can't be beat and if you love classical furnishings and great art, you will want to return often!

This was our four year wedding anniversary. My husband and I had never stayed in a B&B before and our stay was awesome. The room was very clean, the jet shower was great, and the breakfast in the morning was very filling and delicious. Ron and Prudence (innkeepers) were very nice and made us feel at home. We will definitely be going back to the Ruckman Haus.

Visited about a year ago-- LOVED the Ruckman Haus! My husband and I stayed in the smallest room, but for $85 a night, it was well worth it! Ron and Prudence (the inkeepers) were very friendly-- both breakfasts were FANTATSTIC and made to order-- no buffet line or sharing dishes. We've since stayed in 2 other B&B's in other cities, and neither compare. Free beer, wine and they even shared their vodka:) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
