Historic Victorian home originally built in late 1880's and extensively expanded and remodeled in 1902 by L. A. Scott. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a Texas Historic Landmark. The home is furnished with many antiques including a well tuned baby grand piano in the parlor for the enjoyment of our musical guests. Celtic decorations, from the owners collections, have been applied throughout the home to enhance the Scottish theme of this bed & breakfast. However, if you've a mind to play a tune on the available bagpipes, you'll have to take them outside in consideration of guests who may not fully appreciate the finest instument ever invented. The house was completely restored in 1983 at which time modern conveniences were carefully added while maintaining the home's authentic Neo-Classical Victorian architecture. The wrap-around veranda and second floor front porch offer extensive areas for guests to relax and socialize. The house is located three blocks from the historic McKinney shopping district.

My husband and I stayed here in July 2011. We loved it. The service, rooms and dining were awesome. The owners think of everything to make your stay so relaxing. It felt like it was our house, we were so comfortable. We will be back!

On our first trip to McKinney to attend a musical event at the Performing Arts Center, we were pleasantly surprised to find the Tartan Thistle within walking distance of the Historic Town Center. Staying at the Tartan Thistle, we had the sense that we had travelled back in time in the beautifully rendored Victorian atmosphere and we were transported to Scotland with the surrounding decor of the Guardian Thistle and the many varieties of tartan. Needless to say, we will return to the Tartan Thistle, we are planning our trip to Dickens on the Square in November.

    Outstanding Tartan Thistle!

Our church did a women's retreat here one weekend and filled up the whole house. What beautiful and nostalgic rooms and no matter what our needs were, our hosts Tom and Karen were gracious about filling them. A first-class place and gourmet breakfast, too. Who would want to stay in a hotel! We really enjoyed shopping around the nearby historic town square. We must come back again! Shirley

My boyfriend and I decided to spend our anniversary at a B&B in McKinney, TX. We were lucky enough to have discovered this treasure. Located 3 blocks away from the heart of McKinney, the Tartan Thistle is a wonderful jewel that provides guests with a taste of McKinney, but with the comforts of home in mind. We stayed in the Thistle room which was elegant and beautifully decorated. Karen was a wonderful hostess and gave us great recommendations of the surrounding restaurants. She also cooks a wonderful breakfast and makes you feel right at home. We will definitely be staying at the Tartan Thistle again while visiting McKinney.
