  • The Ramsay Suite features a Mallard bed (made in New Orleans), marble top dresser and tables, six windows, and in-room coffee service. Its new bathroom has a walk-in shower. Of course, there is cable TV, and games in the dresser, and lots of great magazines. Because the suite sleeps three comfortably, it is often the choice for lady-friends on a weekend excursion. We can pump up the air mattress to accommodate a fourth guest in this roomy suite.
Katherine's Room is part of the Ramsay Suite at Wise Manor. This Victorian "youth bed" is comfortable for a full-size adult. Katherine's room has a doll house, marble-top tables, antique furnishings (the bed was made in New Orleans and came to Jefferson on a river boat), and lots of family history. Teddy Bears may sleep with you if you wish, but the resident cat is banned from the guest rooms.
Some folks have made MARGARET'S ROOM a standing reservation for anniversaries and special events. MARGARET's ROOM features a rare cherry-wood bedroom suite (c. 1927), VCR, and video library. Its bathroom has the house's original claw-foot tub with shower. MARGARET's ROOM also has a private entrance from our carport. Newlyweds have been know to disappear for days within MARGARET's ROOM.
This queen bed in BALLAUF's ROOM was converted from a very old rope-strung pine bed. The stenciled wall paper is colonial in origin. A very popular room, it also has its own in-room coffee service, cable TV, magazine collection, and private bath with tub and shower. An Emerson electric oscillating fan from the 1930s supplements the summer air conditioning and creates a nice "white noise" when sleeping. Bedside chocolates!
Wise Manor is frequently invited to be a featured home on Jefferson's several home tours. The Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club was named for Susan's great-grandmother.
Wise Manor's dining room and parlor are "all decked out" for Jefferson's 2008 Spring Tour of Homes.
Wise Manor's parlor awaits your arrival for tea and cookies, or perhaps a glass of wine. Popcorn and hot chocolate are always available, too.
Susan's friends assisted throughout the house during the Spring Tour of Homes. Teri welcomed guests in the parlor.

Located within walking distance of shops and attractions, WISE MANOR is one of the oldest BED & BREAKFAST homes in HISTORIC JEFFERSON, TEXAS. Built in 1851 on the ferry road into pre-CIVIL WAR JEFFERSON, the home has been in the WISE family since 1908. JACOB & ERNESTINE STERNE, early Jefferson postmasters were distinguished residents. GENERAL BUELL was a guest during the RECONSTRUCION ERA. WISE MANOR was lovingly restored by KATHEREINE RAMSAY WISE, Jefferson's town HISTORIAN. Furnished in VICTORIAN era ANTIQUES and family HEIRLOOMS, WISE MANOR reminds us of a time when life was simpler and entertaining was gracious.

September 28-30th...Rainy weekend still had a blast

    September 30, 2012

Susan was an excellent hostess and the other guests were very friendly. I was a little worried about the area we had chosen until we drove into the historical district. The historical district part of Jefferson is beautiful. Very good for a couples getaway :) I will definitely be returning!

A Quiet, Comfortable Stay. Tasty breakfast too!

    February 16, 2010

My wife and I stayed at Wise Manor in January 2010 while we were Jefferson for my mother's wedding. Susan was a most wonderful host; she has extensive knowledge of the city (her mother was the town historian) and is just a wonderful lady to conversate with. Our room was clean and spacious, with a coffeepot so we could make coffee when we wanted it. Highly recommended!

    Wise Manor B&B Review

    November 30, 2009

Susan, the innkeeper is a delightful hostess. She will provide you with a creative and tasty breakfast to start each day. The inn was built in 1851 and has enough modern enhancements to make for an enjoyable stay. We chose this particular B&B because it is the only B&B in the Jefferson, Texas area that offered a suite-type accomodation; that is, an adjoining extra bedroom that rents as part of the suite package. By renting the additional guest room on the second floor, our party of five was able to have the entire floor to ourselves. We booked our visit over Thanksgiving and enjoyed a superb Thanksgiving dinner at the Stillwater Inn in Jefferson.

    Wise Manor: A lovely experience

    August 10, 2009

Wise Manor is a charming, quaint, cozy little two-story historic residence within walking distance of downtown Jefferson. The town offers an almost endless variety of restaurants and bistros as well as many shops of all kinds. Antique fans will be well-served; and the former bustling waterfront will appeal to fishermen. Susan Wise, the owner, is a gracious hostess and quite knowledgeable about Jefferson's history. The area has many attractions, including a historical railroad car and a haunted house. We drove to Kilgore one evening for a live performance on the college campus. The Texas Shakespeare Festival presented a professional production of "Romeo and Juliet." The company performs 4 or 5 shows during the festival--not all of which are Shakespeare. Oh, and did I mention that Ms Wise serves an elegant and delicious breakfast in the dining room?

Like staying with an old friend

    July 03, 2009

The room was very nice, the bath was clean and very useful, the food and service was excellent, very "homey", like staying at Grandma's. While a few blocks from the center of town, it is very convienient to town. I highly recommend Wise manor.

    Outstanding B & B

    July 03, 2009

This B & B was charming, extremely clean, and the food was wonderful. Highly recommend that you stay here. We picked this B & B as it was one of the few that offered a room with 2 beds. So glad we made this selection. Will go back again. Barbara McIver
