Blisswood Bed and Breakfast Ranch

My husband and I had the most relaxing and fun 2 days at Blisswood to celebrate our anniversary! We stayed in the Enchanted Cabin which was so peaceful and romantic. We took advantage of several of the activities that were available to us. We really appreciate the folks that helped to make our stay so memorable. Tommy's patience and instruction helped to make our skeet shooting experience fun for me and challanging for my husband. Armando was our guide for horseback riding, he did an awesome job. My husband commented "that this was the most enjoyable horseback riding that he has ever done"! I'd like to also send a big thank you to Skeeter! His patience and wonderful personality during my archery debut made for such an enjoyable time. We also had a picnic under the gazebo, did some fishing and ate a wonderful dinner at Carol's Resturant on Friday. Our entire weekend provided such happy memories that I will always cherish. Thank you Carol.

My Girlfriend and I had the privilege of staying at Blisswood a couple of weeks ago. We stayed in the Maui Suite at the Oasis and we had an absolutely wonderful time there. Carol was extremely friendly and accommodating, as was everyone else we came in contact with. The food at Carol's Restaurant was outstanding, compliments to the chef, and Arturo was an absolute delight as our waiter. Our experience has definitely turned us into guests and friends for life, we will ABSOLUTELY be back again. A note to the people complaining about creeky floors and foliage everywhere: THIS IS A RANCH, NOT THE RITZ CARLTON. That is exactly why we decided to come here. We wanted to get away from all the noise and busyness of the city, and get back to the country lifestyle that I grew up with. The sound of boots on an elevated wood floor brought me back to my childhood days. We were also able to bring our 160 lbs Great Dane with us on this trip, and he also had the time of his life. He was able to come along with us when we went horse back riding, skeet shooting, and on our bike ride around the ranch.

We wanted to do a babymoon before our first child arrived, and since I couldn't really travel far, this was the perfect distance and package. We happened to be there during Valentine's Day, and it was a wonderful, unique experience for us. We went bass fishing, did archery, had a picnic at the gazebo, and had a massage (reflexology for me) at the bungalow. We stayed at the Bluebonnet Bungalow, and it was perfect for us. It's nice to have the privacy away from the norm, and the fact there was no TV and WIFI helped us focus on us. It was a great change of pace. Dinner at Carol's Restaurant was also a nice experience. Even the water was the best water ever! Being pregnant, I was very careful about what I ate, and Carol was very accommodating about that when I requested something different. It was a great experience, and I would definitely come back here, maybe next time with our daughter after she's born and old enough to enjoy the activities.

My husband & I own our own businesses in Houston, so to get away from all the hustle and bustle, no phone calls, no worries, no stress is something we have come to appreciate. To drive just a little over an hour to get this, is priceless! Thank you Carol for offering that to us! We have now been there 4 times and plan on going there next weekend for Easter. We are taking my parents and our 2 kids. We plan on making family traditions at this place. We celebrated my Birthday last week, my best B'day yet! We also took my daughter there on her 1st family vacation when she was only 2wks old, got the most amazing pics w/her & nature, using just a blanket and antique bonnet that we had purchased at Mustang Alley (a local antique shop...A Must-Do when visiting Cat Springs). Another Must-Do is having dinner at Carol's. The food is amazing (I'm talking 5 STAR), romantic atmosphere, and friendly & pleasant staff. We have stayed in Farmhouse & Lanai House. Both have 2 completely different feels, but equally wonderful. At the Farmhouse we got to enjoy the roaming animals, went for a horseback ride, had a picnic at the gazebo, went fishing, and paddle boated. At the Lanai House, we sat on the porch enjoyed a glass of wine and listened to the waterfall that was 20ft. in front of us, took a walk by the stream, swam in a secluded pool in this rainforest like green house- YOUR OWN PRIVATE PARADISE! Another thing my husband & I like to do while there is reading the Guestbook. It's filled with touching stories & experiences. You laugh. You cry. You relate. You feel apart of them because you have experienced something that is sacred and few have experienced. I can't tell you which I prefer over the other, it is a toss up. My husband and I, together with our two dogs (a Great Dane and a Vizsla), had a very relaxing weekend in the country, which was exactly what we needed. We stayed in the Magnolia Suite of the Dog Trot house. It was a huge room with a mini kitchen (just a microwave and a small fridge). No tv, no internet, just the country, a fireplace, and our Kindles. My hubby went fishing with a guide, we had a picnic at the gazebo, the valentines package (including dinner at Carol's), and I had a wonderful massage on Saturday. It was a truly relaxing weekend and we will be back!

Arriving at the Odl Farm House brough back memories of staying with my grandparents on a farm. the only thing different was not having to get up early to start the day's work. I found my self starting to get up and go, but realizing I didn't have to. The pace was leisurely. the dogs were an absolute joy to be around. Experiencing no TV was agreat lesson slow down. The place is beautiful and peaceful with just about an hour's drive from Houston. This was definitely a treat for the two of us along with our two granddaughters to share it with. Thank you!

Spent two lovely days at the BlissWood ranch this past December with my wife. We stayed at the Oasis and it was even better than I expected! After traveling from far away it was a really nice to arrive to cozy fire in the fireplace. Thanks to the great staff for setting that up! During the day we explored the ranch on horseback and had a good time just relaxing and enjoying the country. Overall a great experience and I can't wait to get back and do it all again! Also, don't miss a meal at Carol's restaurant. My wife is still talking about the awesome rib-eye she ate there.

Carol, let me first say that you have a magnificent ranch, restaurant and setting for virtually any event. Thanks for making our wedding day so extra special! Getting to know a bit of "your story" plus having the pleasure of following your lead during our ceremony and eating your great cooking, you have a knack for people. We feel blessed in locating you and adding you as a friend in out life! We pray that God continues revealing His dynamic plan in the year's ahead. Please know that we do plan to return in the near term to reminisce and explore more of your facilities. Thanks again for all of your hard work and facilitating a great day and evening! Ps, we offer a shout out to Skeeter Hagler! I never would have imagined that we would ever be in the presence of any Pulitzer Prize winner, much less have one shooting pictures of us... He is a spectacular man and we are elated to have had him capture so many rare moments for bragging later in life!

Forget the Hilton and the Hyatt.. It was so worth the drive out! Carol and her team at the Blisswood are professionals! It was a great find! We were very lucky that she was available to officiate our very private wedding ceremony. Kit's Bungalow nearby at The Oasis found in a bamboo forest is a vintage-like cabin with a sheer-draped wrought iron canopy bed....somewhat romantic. Loved it. You could forget you're in Texas while exploring the lush, tropical gardens and ponds. Must have the salmon entree at Carol's Restaurant.

My wife and I stayed in the Texas Farmhouse at BlissWood 12/14-16. We found the house itself, including its history, amazing. Carol has done an outstanding job in making the house feel like it should during the turn of the century. At the same time, it doesn't feel like you're sleeping in a museum; you feel right at home. You get the house to yourself, but you might find yourself sharing the porch with some friendly peacocks. My wife woke up and went into the kitchen to find a peacock staring at her through the window. Not something we get to experience on a daily basis, and that's just one thing that made this place feel really unique and remarkable. The animals around the ranch really add to the experience, and at the Texas Farmhouse your backyard is a view of horses, donkeys, peacocks, turkeys, and probably a bunch of other stuff we weren't there long enough to see. The ranch is quiet and peaceful. We rented a golf cart for the day and drove around the area and really had a great time with it. There are plenty of dirt roads to ride around on, either in the golf cart, a bike, or just hiking. The property is large, beautiful, and well kept. I surprised my wife with a picnic package (which BlissWood offers) at the Enchanted Lake gazebo and that made for a memorable experience, I can't more highly recommend that if you're bringing your significant other. We had dinner for the two nights we stayed at BlissWood over at Carol's Restaurant, just a few miles away. I don't think I can say enough good things about this place, and my only complaint is not having this place closer to where we live. The menu offering is simple, but the food is outstanding. We can't wait to go back and highly recommend BlissWood!

The outdoor area is gorgeous! The lake water was a deep emerald, the trees were changing colors so there were bursts of reds and oranges, the air was peacefully quiet, the animals were tame, and there was plenty to look at and play with from humongous trees and branches, hay, and a friendly, clean cat. The indoor area was spacious and clean. The decor matched the shower's Western theme I was the bride-to-be so I do not know the specifics regarding $ but from what I heard, I can only give three stars. The service was flawless though. Please note: we did not dine at this venue but I am required to rate "dining" in order to post my review.

Hosted a western themed bridal shower at Blisswood and we had an absolute blast! Lovely, peaceful surroundings, well-kept...had a photoshoot with 10 gals by Dogwood Loft Suite, the showbarn and the gazebo by Enchanted Lake! Service was amazing - definitely try out trapshooting and archery. Recommended for a relaxing get-away trip :))

I went to Blisswood to elope and stay in the Enchanted Cabin. It is a beautiful property and a great place to get married in the most stress-free manner possible. Carol's Restaurant was a very nice place to have an intimate dinner afterwards with close family and friends. Everything worked out for the best and the only thing that I disliked was not being able to have a fire outside of such a seculded cabin per the management (there wasn't any burn ban in effect and the picture on the web site showed the clay chimnea by the stairs, that was removed before our arrival).

We had a girls weekend here, and I truly loved it. It is beautiful! The ranch is so pristine, and the house we stayed i, Dog Trout, was so comfortable. I highly recommend BlissWood for a relaxing getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast(s) were phenomenal and the property managers were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

I surprised my husband with a weekend getaway to BlissWood for his 50th birthday. It was our first stay there and it was a wonderful weekend. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed walking and exploring it. We stayed in The Bluebonnet Bungalow, which is lovely and comfortable. My favorite thing was sitting in the rockers on the front porch with a cup of hot tea in the early morning listening to the birds and hearing mooing cows and peacocks in the distance. It was a much needed break from our busy work life and we wish we could have stayed longer. Hope to make it out there for another visit sometime in the near future.

My husband and I spend a weekend at a different bed and breakfast each year for our wedding anniversary. This year we picked Blisswood in Cat Spring, TX. We are quite fond of antiques and rustic decor so we picked the Log Cabin. We were not disappointed. The cabin was well built. The furniture and appliances were quite neat to use. The gas stove was made by Firestone and the GE refrigerator had the coils on top. Oh yes there was electricity and air conditioning so it wasn't too rustic! We had a wonderful dinner at Carol's at Cat Spring. The ribeye was large and juicy, potatoes were the best we've had, and we even had some complementary watermelon granita which was very refreshing! We do recommend renting a golf cart to explore the 500+ acre land which is full of photo opportunities.

We decided to elope for our wedding day. Debby the ranch manager was awesome! She was nice and friendly. I was so happy to have found a place like Blisswood to get married.

What a special place...and just an hour outside of Houston! If you like spending time outside, you will love this place. We celebrated our anniversary here and couldn't have asked for a better place to do so. It was very quiet, quaint, and peaceful. Just roaming around the ranch was wonderful but the highlights of our trip were dinner at Carol's restaurant, the morning horseback ride, and the unbelievable photo shoot with Skeeter. His photography is amazing and we came away from the weekend with some very endearing photos - make time to see his exhibit at Carol's restaurant. The staff was helpful and engaging and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed great conversation with both Carol and Skeeter. What a special group of people they are. We just can't wait to go back!

My husband and I stayed in the Texas Farm House recently. It was the best "escape" from everyday worries, schedules, to-do lists, and stress that we have ever experienced!! I enjoyed my morning "alone time with God" on the back porch each day. What a tranquil and inviting environment to clear your mind and focus on Him. I had my good morning visits from a peacock, two kitties, birds, and Cissy. Cissy is a beautiful black lab that was a perfect fill-in for my own dog at home. I watched someone exercising the horses in the next pasture. They were magnifcant! If you want a true getaway from life's daily hassles and stress, Blisswood is the place to come. There are as many activities as you like or simply relax and enjoy doing nothing. I have to admit I was tearful when we had to leave but will DEFINITELY be back! Special thanks to Mary and Chad for all of their hard work to make sure that everything was perfect. And we would also like to mention Mary and Emil and their border collie rescue team. We had our first stay at BlissWood this past weekend but it will not be our last! Driving up to the Enchanted Cabin for a Valentines weekend was not only truly enchanting but had the feel of coming home. That feeling was multiplied infinitely when we met the staff and shared our meals at Carols. BlissWood is a little slice of heaven just outside the hustle and bustle of Houston that makes you feel as though you have traveled to a far away land.

We purchased the elopement package! It was more than I ever could have asked for! Everything was taken care of when we got there so we were able to relax and soak up the beautiful scenery under century old oak trees. The house we stayed in was private and very relaxing. It made the whole experience a breeze. Our ceremony took place early in the afternoon and the setting was completely perfect. If you are looking for a stress-free all inclusive was to elope while still maintaining your privacy this is the way to go. It was like a honeymoon up until and after the wedding ceremony. Plus I got to pet a Kangaroo.

We just came back from a great family weekend at BlissWood; fishing, hiking, petting the animals and just enjoying each others company. We stayed at the Cozy Loft in the Dog Trot House, and it was really quite charming. I highly recommend BlissWood B&B, and I hope we can go again in the near future. Carol and the staff are great, and the food at Carol's Restraunt is fabulous! Thank you all for a wonderful weekend!

I found out about Blisswood through a Groupon deal...called the owner, Carol...and she helped me select a cabin for our anniversary weekend stay. She suggested Harriet's House, which was perfect. Harriet's and about 5 others are not located on the main ranch property, but 2 miles down the road at a place called The Oasis. Harriet's was spacious and comfy. Great bed, well-stocked kitchen, spotless bathroom...all the essentials for a good stay! There is no TV, so bring a book, some cards, music, whatever you enjoy to relax. The ranch is beautiful, and we enjoyed walking around looking at the property and the animals. This is NOT a place to come if you expect to be waited on and catered to...most of the time, in fact, you won't even see anyone around except another guest occasionally. This is a true escape from the city life, noise, traffic, and electronics. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and I would recommend it for anyone needing an escape.

Whatever you do you have to visit Blisswood. What a great place to relax, enjoy by yourself or with others. Everything and everyone was perfect from the exploring we did, sleeping in an extra comfortable bed and wow those sheets were like sleeping on a cloud. Our picnic in the gazebo the next day was very special to me and my boyfriend and we recomend it to anyone that wants to get away from all the crazyness of the big city. Please take time to visit Blisswoods website and find out for yourself how special this place is. Carol the owner will make you feel like family and you will want to go back time and time again. We had a terrificl two nights at Blisswood, the staff were absolutely wonderful and made us feel so welcome. The restaurant has great food and service and one can spend hours looking at the photos and artwork, etc.The surroundings were so peaceful and natural, just wished we could have stayed longer, but we will be back one day for sure.

We stayed two nights because we had a groupon. It was the best! Very relaxing and huge property. We will go back!

Blisswood...Good for the soul! Used our groupon to buy a 2-day getaway for my husband's b-day. The staff was very warm, friendly and helpful. Made us feel like we were good friends, not just guests. The property is beautiful. We had a very romantic picnic lunch by the lake and gazebo. Had a very fun and relaxing horseback ride. The cabin we stayed in was nice and cozy. Loved the water features nearby and the heated swimming pool inside one of the greenhouses. Wildlife abounds. Hope we get to visit again many more times!

We booked the Lanai House for our week day retreat. WOW! It was a cozy, comfortable place to relax and sleeping to the sound of the outdoor waterfalls was so awesome. We requested a steak dinner, Caesar salad, and baked potatoes to be delivered to our to room.what a suburb meal we received cooked at Carols and delivered by Debbie. The picnic lunch in the Gazebo was so romantic!! Great turkey sandwich and awesome chocolate chip cookies, fresh fruit, chips and drinks with a tablecloth all in a picnic basket waiting for our appointed arrival time to the Gazebo. The cabin was clean, bed comfortable, sitting area with view of the water falls. We will go back!!! This was a groupon special – great deal!!!

The retreat was wonderful. Blisswood has so many activities for the residents to doduring their stay--from throwing frisbees to scavenger hunting. For me, I had a blast with archery. I had not played in years since high school--it was great. The time we had at Blisswood was so relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks so much.

Just recently had my wedding at this facility on 10/08/11. It was fabulous, great reviews from all my guests!! The B&B was the most beautiful backdrop on such a beautiful day. Definitely something I'll remember for all my time!!

What can I say, going to a family run ranch makes all the difference from the personal touch to the quality of care. I highly recommend the ranch to anyone who would like to experience the great outdoors 'Texas style'! :)

The Texas farm house here exceeded my expectations, with its victorian feel and 19th Century charm, it is clean and crisp with many antiques that fit in so well with its design. Its surroundings are nothing less than a time warp, just how anyone would imagine the old west to be and yet has the luxury of a working air conditioning system. I will be returning at some time in the future, this is the most peacefull place I have ever stayed at and the staff are non intrusive, warm and helpfull.

The Dog Trot house was very accommodating. Thank you for offering extra lighting for assistance. The scenery was gorgeous, the gazebo and lake were a delight!! We did get extra photo ops for future SCRAPBOOKIng. We enjoyed opening the house for the delighted breezes.. However our only complaints, Screen Doors would make the experience more enjoyable to do so. (due to bugs and animals). The oven doesn't have a temp setting. We did enjoy the full kitchen! We also loved the soft and comfy bedding. We are talking of a trip next year, and bringing more friends. Thank you Ms. Carol

Once again we enjoyed a relaxing & rejuvenating stay at Blisswood. For the first time we stayed at The Oasis (Kit's Bungalow) and enjoyed the contrast of the tropical setting with the dry surroundings - very unique. We had a wonderful meal at Carol's in Cat Spring where Carol filled us in on the unusual story of the Oasis property. Thanks again Carol - we look forward to our next visit

A friend and I spent 3 nights in the " Texas Farmhouse" cabin the end of September. It was our first time at Blisswood and we had an incredible time! We came to Texas from Oregon to attend the Round Top Texas Antique Show and found Blisswood through the internet. We were lucky! We loved our charming cabin, the visiting cats and hearing the country sounds while sitting on the front porch each morning and evening. Horseback riding was great, the massage was the best we've ever had and the stay was one we'll never forget.

My husband & I wanted to do something out of the norm to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. We wanted a peaceful get away yet with some thrill to commemorate the occasion. We goggled horse-back riding and was drawn to Blisswood B&B. It was everything the website described it to be! The morning of the horse ride, I chickened out after a brief lesson on the horse. My husband (macho man) didn't have that option. Therefore, Skeeter (the photographer) invited me to ride with him on the golf cart and it was such a pleasure. Skeeter was a comfort and shared some of the ranch's history as well as how he became acquainted. I was most intrigued after being in arm's length of the livestock; I'm used to being on the other side of the fence! "Nice pictures though"... Thanks Skeeter! The other nice part about our stay was the weather. It was cool & breezy; the sound of the wind gust brushing through the trees was amazing. We sat outside near a waterfall, read for a while and evaluated our marriage. The mood was just right. We later retreated to Harriet's House at the Oasis where we later woke up to breakfast with a nice note in the frig. I'm grateful to have found such a gem nestled up in the open fields of Cat Spring, TX.

I was completely delighted by the entire staff of people there and had a wonderful time there. Debby wears so many hats and does it so well! Great meals at Carol's restaurant ;) Our group loved the steak and the Texas Iced Tea.The horse trails are beautiful, despite the unfortunate drought during this time. I could see well beyond that and the old oaks, beautiful ponds, creek beds and gorgeous natural landscape were magical. This was one time that the website could not come close to portraying the beauty of nature that Carol has captured here. Carol is hands on, and although she was out of town the day of our arrival, she was always available and worked with me directly to make a very complicated plan come together. We came with our family , own horses and another crew of friends who stayed in the log cabin and it was truly a perfect stay. Fell in love with the Oak Trees in back of the Lehman House, and the swing...Will be back to stay at Dog Trot next time so we can enjoy the pool! Don't forget to book a photo clinic with Skeeter, a friendly, bearded gentleman on property, who is a Pulitzer prize winning photographer. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to get together with him for a clinic, but I will be back to cross paths with him again. He took some unbelievable photos of our family and I can't wait to get one of them framed to put in our new home. Loved this place

So I searched for a place to surprise my husband for our anniversary. I found this, and booked it. I was so happy I did! Carol emailed me several times to answer my many questions, and so did a member of the staff. They were so kind and helpful! This is the perfect place to unwind, and just relax. We ordered the picnic lunch and it was nice, 2 sandwiches, some trail mix, yummmy yummy cookies, and a few other good things. the staff went above and beyond to help us and make this a special anniversary for us. Now it's important to read the description. We saw some guests there that were not happy, but they came not knowing what to expect. I picked this place so that we could just chill. My husband and I love to read books, relax and not be bothered, and just enjoy each others company. If your the sort that gets board easy, or expects to be pampered, this may not be the place for you. We stayed at the Oasis at the Hibiscus, I missed the thing that said it was not a full kitchen, (others are) but they had a microwave, a mini fridge and a hot plate and it was great! It was a bit smaller than I thought, but we loved it. This is a working ranch, on dirt roads and older homes, and things, however, they are keep it up well. The sheets were so comfy, a higher thread count than I expected, and while they state there is no maid in between your stay, we had extra towels and everything we needed. I do recommend brining food to easily heat or cook, as you will want to just stay there and relax. To anyone booking at the Oasis, if you have friends you wan t to stay near, it may be helpful to know that the Hibiscus and Harriets House are together, and only the Hibiscus Suite has the small green house, which is awesome to eat breakfast in! Also the Lanai, Maui Suite and Aloha Cottage I think are together. We never heard our neighbors, and it was a blast. This is the place to go to chillax!

This B&B is the best kept secret about 1 hour west of Houston. We stayed in the Enchanted Cabin, one of many cabins scattered across this working ranch. Each cabin has its unique character and charm. I loved the peace and quiet of being out in the country - to see the stars and hear the frogs and crickets at night. We enjoyed horseback riding, a picnic in the gazebo, and driving a golf cart around to visit the animals on the ranch (including a kangaroo and peacock!). Words cannot express the hospitality of the staff - they are the most friendly and gracious individuals I have ever met! Fantastic experience... I plan to do it again sometime soon!

My wife and two kids had a wonderful Memorial weekend at Blisswood. We caught plently of bass and sunfish, enjoyed the surrounding wildlife including horses, cows, chickens, gotas, emu and a kangaroo, and we took a couple night-time strolls under the stars. The log cabin was a wonderful getaway from big city life! The McElyea's

I stayed at the Blisswood ranch with my wife and two kids (2 years old and 9 months). The location of the ranch is fabulous and the property is beautiful. We stayed at the Bluebonnet. It is a cool opportunity to stay in a antique ranch house like this. We really enjoyed it. I do feel it will soon need some refurbishing as far as the bathroom floor and such, but still overall a very neat house. There are some insects and such, but this is expected in the country. My family loved all the animals. We took our kids on the feeding tours and they had a blast. In summary, if you want the opportunity to expereince a true Texas ranch and farm, this is a fabulous place. We plan on going back yearly.

We had the best wedding at Blisswood. We loved getting married in such a beautiful place. It was so pretty and so stress free. The place is truley amazing and we loved it. Carol and all the ranch guys are such great people who truley make you feel right at home. The kids love seeing all the aminals and going on the feed ride (the peacock was the star of the show to them). The We stayed in the Enchanted Cabin and loved it was truley a place to spend some great alone time after the family left. We will be back soon and can't wait. Thank you Carol for doing are wedding and for making us feel right at home on your ranch. And the food at Carol's restrant was to die for !!!!! Love this place

It's almost impossible to describe the Oasis, the most recent addition to Carol Davis' central Texas Blisswood farm/B&B/ranch. Once home for 126 dogs (get them to tell you the story) it houses a number of cabins and conservatories nestled in a heavily wooded area a couple of miles down the road from the main estate. To us it looked more like a film set than a real place - you have to see it to know what it's like. If you're looking for a peaceful stay this is the place - you don't have to interact with anyone but that would be a shame as the staff are super-friendly and you definitely don't want to miss the (two) antique shops and dinner at Carol's restaurant in Cat Spring. There's not a lot of choice for fine dining in the area but that's not why we went two nights in a row, despite being the only people there the first night (other than Carol and some of her friends). When the grizzled cowboy who led us down the dirt roads to our cabin turned out to be a Pullitzer Prize-winninng photographer we knew we knew that we had entered an alternate universe. Everything here is special (except the breakfast, which they leave in the fridge and which wasn't very exciting). We will be back with our son and nxt time will take advantage of the facilities: archery, horseback-riding, couples massage...

My friends and I just got home from a wonderful two days spent at Blisswood Ranch. This place is a little bit of Texas paradise located just an hour's drive from Houston, Texas. We enjoyed our private house and found it very comfortable and the surroundings ideal. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and we would very happily go back for another restful weekend out in the Texas countryside.

We could not wish for a more magical place to spend our honeymoon than Blisswood. Innkeeper Carol Davis bent over backwards to make our stay very enjoyable. The rest of the staff was courtious and helpful but respected our privacy. Reservations and all special packages were arranged online and could not have been easier, making this destination a wonderful surprize for my new bride. Our stay included accomodations in the rustic and charming Log Cabin. Everything was beautiful and inviting from the heart shaped rose petals on the bed to the champagne and strawberries in the 1930's style refridgerator waiting for my beloved and me. The next morning met us with country cats lounging on the front porch and busy hens scratching about. A brisk morning bycicle ride was ever so refreshing and ended with a wonderful gourmet picnic lunch waiting for us at the back at the cabin. There was just enough chill in the air for us to enjoy the rustic fire place and my bride and I appreciated the relaxing spa message I arranged for us later that day. The next morning we enjoyed veiwing the gorgous grounds while horseback riding and later we wondered to our hearts content on golf carts that were available to rent. All of the various dwellings have their own appeal and charm. One can tell that Carol lovingly puts her own personal touch into each on-site retreat. Truly a peaceful and relaxing get-a-way... and romantic destination. We were sad to see our time visiting come to an end but so contented with the precious memories we will keep with us always.

Blisswood is the place to get away from it all,and make yourself relax. What you would expect from a ranch. The service was great, house was clean,linens were nice,and the meal brought to the lodging was delicious.

We had a wonderful experience at Blisswood! The rooms are beautiful, updated, and clean. The grounds are nice and the staff is fantastic! They went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Carol's restaurant is absolutely fantastic and they opened it just for us since it was closed the night we were there. We will never forget it!

If you're looking for a place that is different and to relax, away from television and the Internet, this is the place to go. We went before the plants greened up, so I'm sure it's much prettier in April and May when the plants have a chance to come back, but it was still nice. The staff, especially Debby, the ranch manager, was so very helpful and pleasant. The dining at Carol's Restaurant was great. We totally enjoyed the horse-back riding too!

I bought a groupon around Christmas for a two-day stay at BlissWood B&B in Cat Spring, Texas. We called 30 minutes before arriving and as planned, Skeeter was waiting to escort us to our cottage. Blisswood Oasis has earned its name. It's tacked away in the trees and is truly a jewel. We stayed in the Lanai cottage and I would request the same cottage next time I visit. The sitting area is well furnished, the bed and the linen are both divine to sleep in, the jacuzzi is delightful to soak in. One recommendation is to bring food and be ready to grill or cook as the nearest restaurant is not always open and Bellville is 30 minutes away. From what we heard, each cottage has its own kitchenette, so cooking is no problem. Skeeter, Debbie, and the Blisswood staff were great hosts.

I will never forget how kind the staff was! They made sure everything was perfect. When we first arrived our A/C unit was stuck on heat but the staff saved the day and explained to us how the controls worked. We also had our Romance Package waiting for us. There were rose petals sprinkled around the room, roses in a vase on the table and champagne on ice with two Blisswood glasses for us to use! Not to mention chocolate covered strawberries and a cheese platter waiting to surprise us in the fridge! Next we had the BEST massage ever! I have never felt more refreshed and in a better mood than I was after that! My fiance' (now husband) quickly got over the fact that we had no TV or Internet access. It was great not being bothered and with a quick two minute walk back to Frantz Rd I was at full bars with Sprint, so emergencies were no worry at all. We were greeted in the most wonderful way by the ranch's general manager and her dog, Firecracker! We loved having him come greet us every morning! He would wait patiently outside our door until we were up and about and even knew (upon seeing a camera) to sit or pose! I am definitely going to miss him! Then, on the day of our wedding we were pleasantly surprised to have Mrs. Davis performing our rights herself! The location was beautiful and she was so kind and patient with us when we realized we had left our rings back at the Hibiscus Suite where we were staying! Later that night we ate at Carol's (Mrs. Davis' restaurant). The wait staff were the most personable people! They even made us a wedding cake with the flowers we requested for our wedding! On our final day we had a picnic waiting for us at the gazebo where we were married! Being surrounded by the water and the calming sound of the wind was so gorgeous. It all made for wonderful pictures! We were so sad to leave! We did, however come away with a sense of calm and happiness. A great many thanks go out to Mrs. Davis and the extraordinary staff at Blisswood!

We had a wonderful romantic getaway............Blisswood is unique and wonderful.

My husband and I just returned from a romantic Valentine's weekend at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast in Cat Spring, Texas. Blisswood had so much to offer to help us relax and reconnect. I loved not having a TV and no other distractions because we were fully able to enjoy each other’s company. I highly recommend purchasing the picnic lunch at the Enchanted Lake! It was the most peaceful, relaxing, and delicious lunch that included a bottle of wine that we thoroughly enjoyed. We brought our bikes with us and enjoyed riding all around the ranch where I got some great photos! We also purchased a couples massage where they came to our cabin, it was amazing! Carol prides herself in giving her guest a great experience and her manager Debbie is so accommodating. Carol also has several exotic animals that you can help feed which was really cool! I even got to pet her kangaroo! We are planning to go back with our kids in the spring when the bluebonnets are in bloom. If you want to take a step back in time where you can enjoy nature, I highly recommend Blisswood. Oh, for some great food don't forget to head to Carol's at Cat Spring; you won't be disappointed!

We spent a family weekend at the Blisswood and had a wonderful time. We stayed in the log cabin located next to the barn. This turned out to be great as our kids absolutely loved the up close time with all the animals (dogs, cats, chickens, horses, emu, kangaroo, peacocks...). The roosters will wake you up in the morning but that just adds to the fun. The staff are really fantastic, we felt very welcome and even got to meet the owner, Carol Davis. We took our mountain bikes and spent 1/2 a day riding around. We did not eat at Carol's restaurant - so I can't comment on the dining (thus the score).

If you’re looking for a tranquil getaway, just outside of Columbus, Texas, you'll find the BlissWood B&B. Owner Carol Davis has 10 refurbished farmhouses with names like the Writer’s Cabin, Texas Farmhouse, and Dog Trot located on her 600-acre ranch. My 3 sisters and I stayed in the Lehamann House. Tucked away in a grove of live oaks, this two-story cottage was furnished everything we needed, and a lot extra. After selected our very own bedrooms, we convened on the front porch rockers to soak up some country atmosphere and listen to the mockingbirds sing. The next morning, Carol treated us to a ranch tour. She arrived on a golf cart with three dogs aboard. We collected two more carts and two more dogs and set out. Carol is the fourth owner, inheriting the spread from her father. She has skillfully melded a working ranch and B&B, offering trail rides, base fishing, and a perfect setting for weddings at the wasteria-covered gazebo. But that’s not all. After a day of running the ranch, you’ll find Carol all gussied up and seating folks at her restaurant Carol’s at Cat Spring. That evening we dined on Black and Bleu Filet Mignon, Grilled chicken with bison sausage, Pasta Red Duke fettuccine with sun-dried tomatoes, and the chef's tantalizing creation, seafood strudel. This was a weekend for the memory book, and I hope to return as often as possible.

We got married last week in BlissWood. We got the elopement package & it was just perfect! Everything was included and it really was a stress free wedding. Debbie (the wedding organizer) is such a lovely person and really tries her best to have everything perfect for you, she even helped me to find my wedding dress and several other things that we needed. After the wedding, we stayed for a couple of nights at the enchanted cabin, and we just loved it! The bathtub was great, and they even put rose petals on the bed and around the cabin. I will definitely recommend to get married or just stay a couple of night in this gorgeous place.

I am from Sweden and was highly impressed by the welcome and the beautiful ranch. We rode bikes to an enchanted lake, fed the animals, enjoyed good meals at Carol's restaurant and went horse riding. Acccommodation in the Oasis at Aloha lodge was great. The grounds were amazing and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Thoroughly to be recommended. There was even a Pulitzer award winning photographer to provide photographs and a country music singer who wrote her own songs. We had a lovely massage in our cabin.

I moved from England to Houston to take up a job recently and my previous experience of Texas was in urban areas. Staying at Blisswood was my first experience of life on a ranch. We stayed in a little cabin (Aloha) in a beautiful area and were warm and cosy. We went horse riding and cycle riding in the beautiful grounds of the ranch down to an enchanted lake with a Gazebo in the middle. In the evening we went to Carol's restaurant where we had good food and hospitality and listened to a country music singer who wrote some of her own material. On Sunday morning we got up early and drove around the ranch on a gold buggy to feed a variety of animals. Then we mounted two white horses and followed the owner Carol on a 1 hours ride through wooded and open areas down to the lake and back. This was a very relaxing weekend which we thoroughly enjoyed. A local pulitzer prize-winning photographer provided us with some photos of our various activities and we had good conversations with several local people. We recommend it to anyone wanting a break in the wilds of Texas and it would be suitable for children. We felt very welcome and my travelling companion and I recommend it very highly. My husband and I booked the Blisswood B&B to celebrate our 29th anniversary and my birthday (I won't say which one HA!). We stayed in the Oasis section of the ranch in Harrie'ts House. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere with the flora and fauna resembling Hawaii instead of Texas! We didn't see another person or hear a car or an airplane, until we went to the main barn where we met Cowboy Bob for our horseback riding experience! He was fascinating and taught us so much about horses. He did alot of training with the "Horse Whisperer" and he even let us watch him use some of the techniques he learned on a horse that needed training. He called it a "joining up" and it was fascinating to watch, let me tell you! After the horseback riding, we had an archery lesson...my first one! I was not very good, but my husband hit the bullseye first thing! Still it was fun. Carol (the owner) was so kind to suggest that we might like them to open up the restaurant for our anniversary dinner. It is usually only open on the weekend and we were only there Wednesday and Thursday. They did open the restaurant and we were served the most special 5 course meal by Chef Shannon! It was an anniversary that we will never forget! Thanks Carol for a wonderful 2 day getaway from the noise and the business of life for a restful respite!

I took my daughter to Blisswood B&B to celebrate her 15th birthday. She is a horsewoman and animal lover so it seemed a good fit. We stayed in the Log Cabin to be near the barn and all the animals. What a treat!!! Our cabin was ready and waiting with all of it's charming decor. The welcoming food was delicious! The staff is kind and very accommodating. We enjoyed our early morning trip to feed the animals. Our horseback ride was quite enjoyable. It was so nice to see the beautiful countryside close-up on horseback. Cowboy Bob was awesome! He took time to answer our questions and provide loads of information about horses. Our stay far exceeded my expectations. We can't wait to return with our whole family! (We stayed mid-week so the restaurant was not open...we'll be back!)

Hi Carol Just a few words to tell you how much fun we had at Blisswood B&B. Harriet’s House was so cozy and romantic. The pool inside the greenhouse with all the beautiful plants and exotic artifacts created a magnificent atmosphere. The champagne and chocolate covered strawberries were superb. The karaoke with G Marie and the savory food at Carol’s at Cat Spring restaurant were so cool. Even getting briefly lost while trying to find Harriet’s House on the way back that night was exciting. We had a blast with Cowboy Bob, what a wonderful man he is! Thanks for making this little heaven for all of us. Love John & Irma

OH….MY….GOODNESS! We are just back from Blisswood (or blissful,or any of the other bliss adjectives that would apply) where we had a fabulous one nighter (our mistake for not staying longer) We stayed at the Enchanted Cabin which lived up to all of our expectations. Nestled away in a remote part of the ranch, this cabin is a perfect place for the hopeless romantics such as us. The Enchanted Cabin is located at the end of a long private road. When occupied, no other persons (including staff nor other cabin dwellers) are allowed on the road in or in the cabin area which enables the occupants to dress (or undress in our case) as they wish without fear of invasion of privacy. Our clothing optional event lasted from 3 pm to 11:30 am the next day and with a drink in one hand, our sweetie’s hand in the other, and a long soothing afternoon rain, made for a perfect romantic walk on the property and down the road. This cabin was perfectly decorated in country style with a modern/rustic décor. The bedroom includes a spacious garden Jacuzzi tub, surrounded by large bay windows, and placed a short distance from the bed so one can lie in the bed and watch their honey or join them in the tub. The bathroom provides a shower enclosure, and the kitchen has utensils, pots and pans for cooking which we enjoyed. The champagne and chocolate covered strawberries were a part of the welcome that made us feel extra special. Bring enough food for your stay because the drive to town would be a little lengthy and will make you feel guilty for leaving your cabin (no guilt here…we never left) . Choose your stay according to the time of the year you prefer and don’t complain if the weather doesn’t suite you. Carol made a special effort to meet us and offer her services for our remaining time there. She is genuine in every sense of the word and cares greatly about the happiness and satisfaction of her clients. Would we go back? The question should be WHEN will we go back.

I find it difficult to express the experience my wife and I had during our recent visit to Bliss Wood. My expectations were just on a different scale. Having enjoyed other bed and breakfasts accommodations, I thought we were poised for something similar with a scenery upgrade. From the moment we arrived I was overwhelmed. Each phase of our weekend exceeded the previous one. We were greeted at the entrance to the ranch and escorted to the Harriet House. I have not seen a more romantic venue. We were next treated to Carol’s. Wow! The atmosphere, service, and meal proved to be a fantastic prelude to our weekend getaway. Sunday morning we had scheduled a horseback riding adventure. I had no clue the owner would be the person who would take us around this beautiful ranch. The sights were breath taking. Bliss Wood is a spectacular snapshot of all things gorgeous in the Texas hill country. The owner and her staff enhanced our appreciation of the charm Bliss Wood and its accommodations. The myriad of critters to be seen and enjoyed were some of the unexpected bonuses of our trip. We enjoyed shopping in the gift shop before going into Cat Springs for brunch at Carols and perusing the antique stores. We rounded out the day with a bike ride and swim in the unique swimming pool. We were not ready to leave by Monday. We did promise each other to return soon and often. On our way home we detoured for a tour through the nearby Blue Bell factory. The pictures of Bliss Wood online are representative of what people can expect but are in no way depictive of the peacefulness and rest guests can expect. I heartily recommend Bliss Wood to anyone willing to share a romantic adventure with the flavor of our Texas culture. My wife and I had a magical weekend.

My husband and I recently stayed at Blisswood for our first wedding anniversary. Blisswood was absolutely beautiful and exactly what we needed to escape Houston city life! We both enjoy the outdoors and had a great time exploring the grounds, horseback riding, and paddle boating. Our cabin was clean and stocked with everything we needed for the weekend. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. All around it was an amazing experience and perfect for anyone looking for a good dose of country (without having to pitch a tent)!

If you need a deep, relaxing exhale, this is the place for you. Whether you are single, a couple or a family, you will find your niche. Set in the country, on a working ranch with exotic wildlife thrown in the mix, you set your pace. No TVs, no phones, no intrusions! Just you and nature. We went in the heat of June, but look forward to returning when the temp is a little more friendly! We explored via car with AC, but will walk around next time. Check out their website. The houses available on the property are each unique in and of themselves and will draw you in, depending on what you are looking for. This experience fro us, was an extremely relaxing respite from the everyday hustle and bustle! If you need a nature "fix", you will enjoy Blisswood. Truly a B&B different from all others!

My husband and I recently enjoyed a wonderful one-night stay at Blisswood, located about an hour west of Houston. Our room, the Hibiscus Suite, was actually located about a mile down the road from the ranch at a site called the Oasis. This area, which has an Oriental theme, includes an orchid greenhouse and several lovely outdoor water features. Our favorite part, however, was the small, but refreshing pool located in its own greenhouse filled with lush tropical vegetation. Our suite had a comfortable queen bed, a kitchenette, and a wonderful two-person jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. There was also an attached greenhouse "patio." The only thing lacking in the room was a closet or chest of drawers to store clothes. After eating our yummy complimentary continental breakfast (which was delivered to us after we checked in), we enjoyed an hour-long horseback ride around the ranch led by none other than Carol herself. While we enjoyed our stay immensely, there are a few things you should be aware of before deciding to come to Blisswood. First, to reach the ranch, you have to drive down a bumpy dirt road, and all the roads on the ranch have potholes. (I'm very glad we took my husband's truck and not my sedan.) Second, you really are out in the middle of nowhere. We had no Verizon cell service while we were at the ranch. Also, if you don't bring along your own food, you will have to drive a ways to find a place to eat lunch and dinner. Finally, there is no TV in your room. If you can't live without a TV, this is not the place for you. However, if what you seek is solitude, tranquility, and natural surroundings, you won't find a better place to stay.

Our group was trying to find a place somewhere halfway between Houston and San Antonio, and I happened to stumble upon this website. We made last minute reservations, and Carol was very accomodating. We chose the Ranch House Studio because we liked the view of the pasture, complete with horses, cows, a camel, emus, and some beautiful peacocks. The 3 bedroom studio was quite roomy. A nice touch is the Jack and Jill bathroom, which is between two of the bedrooms. We each had our own sinks and toilet, and shared a shower and bathtub. While there are many activities to do, we chose to do nothing but relax & hang out w/ our family. We did dine at Carol's restaurant and had a fantastic dinner. Favorites were the salmon w/ capers, the chicken fried steak, and the salad w/ bleu cheese, apples, walnuts and grilled chicken. My favorite part was being outside at night, looking at the moon and stars, listening to nothing but the breeze blowing, the frogs croaking, and the windmill turning. Oh, and occasionally a loud squawk from the peacocks (who did quiet down at bedtime). Speaking of bedtime, we all slept like babies--the beds & bedding were very comfortable. We all loved it & look forward to returning.

We learned about Blisswood through Groupon. We live in Pearland, and the drive took us approx 1.5 hours. We stayed for two nights in the Enchanted Cabin and it was wonderful! We learned prior to making reservations that Blisswood is a working ranch, and this was verified when we drove to our cabin and found black angus cows blocking our path to the cabin (we just drove around them). The cabin is nicely decorated and very comfortable. In the morning, we were awakened by birds chirping and cows mooing. We brought our own food and drink for lunch/snacks. We also enjoyed the supplied continental breakfast (bagel, yogurt, fruit, juice/coffee) on our porch each morning. We ate at Carol's restaurant both nights, and the food was really good. I recommend the cherries jubilee for dessert. We tend to over-exert ourselves on vacations, so we thought this place would be good for just relaxing and "doing nothing." However, as usual, we found ourselves having a great time by bike riding, hiking, exploring the ranch, horseback riding, and meeting the farm animals. There's one fat lazy pig that likes his belly rubbed! For our next visit, we intend to rent a golf cart to make it down some of the more sandy trails rather than biking. Also we'll try to do a little fishing. Carol is a great hostess and we look forward to our next visit to Blisswood.

I took my granddaughter to Blisswood over her Spring Break and celebrated her 5th birthday. ONLY 1 hour outside of Houston makes it far enough away without being too far away. You totally leave all stress behind as Carol & her entire staff are the most hospitable, courteous, friendly & loving people you could imagine. You don't get these things from a hotel. There is just about every kind of animal you can imagine, including peacocks, kangaroo, camel, horses, cows, goats, roosters, on a beautiful ranch. Anything we needed was graciously tended to though we had everything we could imagine right in the Texas Farm House. Carol's restaurant is outstanding in food AND service. They made my granddaughter feel like the most important person in the world. LOVE it and going back! Ella Couture

If you want to reconnect with nature while enjoying a place of perfect bliss, Blisswood is the right place. I stayed at one of the cabins, it's amazing how this place takes you back to another century, away from the noise, stress, etc.I really enjoyed my stay, and there are many activities that you can do. I chose the horseback ride:).It was my first but Carol is a great teacher and the horse was really patient with me too:) so it was a great experience, I really enjoyed it!

I decided to surprise my husband for our 4 yr. Anniversary, so I chose the Lanai House at Blisswood's Oasis Bed & Breakfast. Just from viewing their website I knew it would be nice, but after my 2 day stay, my expectations had been far exceeded. This resort was excellent from beginning to end. The staff was very pleasant, and the owner is absolutely amazing. The breakfast was nice and the environment extremely serene and peaceful. The interior design of the room housed a tropical Hawaian atmosphere. Carol's restaurant was delicious, as well as the many activities we did: Horseback riding, archery, in-room massages. The most memorable moment was when I expressed great fear in my very first attempt to go horseback riding (Being a beginner.) Instead of the owner being rude and impatient, she instead remained very calm and understanding, assuring my husband and I that she would take it extremely slow and make 100% sure that we were well educated before beginning our excursion. She even stated that if we were unhappy we would get our money back (which not many owners would offer) The ride was exceptional as we felt that we were in an amazing world similar to the setting in "The Sound of Music." The grounds were beautifully manicured, as blue and yellow wildflowers majestically surronded our every view (Not to mention the gorgeous trees and beautiful ponds/gazebos.) I would recommend this bed and breakfast to any and everyone trying to capture a miraculous dream into a memory never to be forgotten.

My husband and I, along with another couple, recently took a trip out to Cat Spring, Texas to visit Blisswood Bed and Breakfast. It was great! So peaceful and quiet and you can come and go as you please. We stayed in Kit's Bungalow and our friends stayed in the Hibiscus suite, both rooms were nicely decorated and had the great feel of home. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Carol, the owner, led us on a great horseback ride through tons and tons of beautiful bluebonnets. These bluebonnets put Brenham to shame....absolutely gorgeous! One of the staff members also went out of his way to drive us around on his golf cart to look around the ranch and to visit with the animals. What a great trip we had....definitely recommend Blisswood Bed and Breakfast for a nice quiet getaway! You should check it out!

If you are looking for a relaxing, laid back experience... BlissWood is for you! My husband and I took our 3 children and stayed in the Ranch House Studio ~ which was perfect for us! We loved going out in the mornings and visiting with the animals. The animals were so amazing! Everything from a bison, peacocks, ducks, horses, a pig, donkeys, emus, and a camel!!! And they were all so sweet! We brought our Sheltie along with us and she loved running with the other dogs on the ranch! The land is enchanting and secluded! The special amenities such as picnics in the gazebo, feeding tours and horseback riding make BlissWood even more enchanting! This is a special place!

My mother, 3 sisters and I stayed in the Dittmar House. We stayed there while shopping the weekend at Round Top, (about 35-40 min away). It was really very cute and quiet place! Every morning we sat on the front porch drinking coffee, watching Carol, (the owner) take her guest on horseback tours. She is very nice and her crew as well. All very helpful too! We ate at her restaurant, (Carol's Restaurant) is was VERY GOOD! I would definetly recommend you try it and don't pass on her white chocolate bread pudding that she is known for. Normally I'm not a bread pudding fan, but this I AM!!!

One word: Wow! We chose the Enchanted Cabin for our stay as I wanted something secluded and away from everyone else. This is EXACTLY what we got. In fact, when we drove down the road (with darling little handmade signs) we got to the end and my husband said, "Where is it?" The cabin was so nestled we barely saw it. When we walked inside, we gasped. We are city dwellers. This was a true escape and it felt like stepping back into a simpler time. We enjoyed every single thing about the cabin. We walked the gravel roads. Took photos among the wildflowers. Felt the breeze and listened to the leaves rustle. We took photos with Carol's beautiful dog, Sassy. We never saw a single person only heard the sound of the cattle at night. It was so enchanting. We sat under the moon on the porch and watched the stars. There is a lot of love on this property. The gazebo is so romantic. The charming white bridges beckon you over them to watch the frogs jump. It was just awesome. We did not want to leave. And, the pillows are so very comfortable. The hot tub rocks too! Thank you for the soft little bagels and for the experience that we will long remember. We will be back!! ~ The Happy Goddess

This place was amazing! It felt like we stepped right into a fairy tale- it is BEAUTIFUL! We arrived to a spotless, beautifully furnished room (the hibiscus suite at the Oasis) a romantic tub, bathrobes, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and peace and quiet…we explored before the sun went down, admired the waterfalls and gardens and then actually sat and talked and enjoyed each others company without any distractions. We brought a cooler of drinks and chips and salsa and sandwiches with us…I’d recommend packing something to eat and drink…the next morning we were able to sleep in and then enjoy the prepared breakfast in bed with a hot cup of coffee…what a great way to start the day! Throughout the day we were able to go fishing and horseback riding and tour the ranch and feed and pet all of the animals (i found myself wishing we had kids to bring). Even with all of the activity we still managed to end the day feeling completely relaxed. Carol makes you feel at home during your stay and everything runs according to your schedule…we cant wait to go back!

We had a mixed group, myself with young adult kids, my sister with husband and young teenage girls. The Sullivan House was perfect with its huge yard filled with enormous oaks and a small lake with a paddleboat. The kids fished, road horses, enjoyed the wildlife and animals at the main ranch, including a kangaroo and camel. We adults enjoyed the peace, quiet, and lovely scenery. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accomodating. And our dinner at Carol's Restaurant in Cat Spring was amazing! Don't miss that experience. Truly a little piece of heaven. We can't wait to go back!

We recently stayed at Blisswood Texas Farmhouse. I must say it was one of the best weekend getaways that my husband and I have had. The home is so plesant and comfortable.I was amazed that the gas range and refrigerator from the 1920's still work. Blisswood is a place you can go to with your spouse and just enjoy the beauty of the farm and the nature. The piece and quite that comes with sitting on the front porch in the rocking chairs is so wonderful. We plan to be back to stay again. Every thing and everyone was so nice.

We took part in a Groupon for Blisswood. Carol was wonderful to answer all the questions we had and make suggestions about what would best meet our needs. We loved the privacy. We've never had a B&B experience like this. We loved the privacy that they worked so hard to preserve for all the guests. The ammenities were lovely....and the bed was so very comfortable that we slept solidly. The uniqueness of this B&B will draw us back to try out other accomodations there as well. BlissWood Bed & Breakfast is truly a "piece of heaven" and it's name is so completely fitting. We brought our twin sons there with us and even though it had been several years, since our last visit (unfortunately, everyday life just gets in the way at times!), it had made such a lasting impression on them, they vividly remembered it as we pulled onto the property. As we drove on-site, I could feel my whole body starting to relax. It was a much needed getaway and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Each of Carol's homes offers both unique and special detail to decorating it to fit each of her many wonderful houses. You can tell that a lot of love & thought have gone into each one. The owner, Carol Davis, is an amazing woman who seems to put her all into everything that she does and it is reflected in all of her properties as well as her restaurant Carol's at Cat Springs. The restaurant offers the same special ambiance as her Bed & Breakfast does. With pretty tablecloths, and displayed with specially picked fresh flowers, the hostesses and waitresses meet you with a smile, and happily, we got to be met by Carol herself too! During our stay at BlissWood, but we explored and enjoyed every place that we could while there. Skeeter, an excellent photographer, who takes many of the pictures for Carol, was also very helpful. I also felt so priviledged to even get a phone call from Carol herself after our stay to make sure that everything was to our liking and to welcome us back for a future stay. We can't wait! Truly, if you want to feel like you can go back in time to a simpler life, and one of so much beauty, then I would highly recommend BlissWood. Carol offer's so many different packages (wedding, romantic getaways, etc. -- something for everyone!), you won't want to miss out on this very special place. My fiance and I spent Valentine's weekend at Blisswood. We had a wonderful time! We had a fire each night in the fireplace and enjoyed wine and spending time together. We had a romantic dinner at Carol's restaurant and the Sunday brunch. Both meals were top notch! We walked around the ranch, climbed the observation tower, and shot skeet together. It was great spending time outside in such a peaceful setting. We also had engagement pictures taken at scenic spots around the ranch. We can't wait to get married at Blisswood in October!

We stayed at the Lanai House located at the Oasis which is a sister property of Blisswood. The website did not have pictures but I called and spoke with Carol herself. I told Carol, my husband and I wanted a quiet romantic getaway from the kids but we needed a full kitchen (stove) because we bring our own food for breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and will be making reservations again soon to stay again. There is no TV, radio, or cell phone signal (if you have TMobile) which was fine. We were able to really talk to each other about everything and even read to each other from our reading material. This is something we haven't done for a long time. We stayed for two nights and when we were leaving we realized we had the laptop with movies and music but we never thought of it the whole weekend! Everyone that works for the ranch is really nice and friendly. They were knowledgeable about the history of the land and the area. If you stay here, you must eat at Carol's restuarant. My husband and I are good cooks and are very picky about where we eat. The food is superb. I don't eat beef or pork so I had the Salmon Kari (cooked well done) and it practically melted in my mouth! My husband had the chicken pasta dish which he is trying to replicate at home. The fried mushrooms were so good, my husband claimed they tasted like chicken. The highlight was the dessert, Carol's has the best bread pudding I have ever tasted! We’re planning to take our kids to the Frio River over Spring Break and I am seriously considering taking a detour to eat at Carol’s again and have some more of that heavenly bread pudding.

Ahhh, the ambiance and history of Blisswood. This place is heaven. We had no issues in our 'old' cabin, and appreciated our stay even more because of its antique qualities. I was very comfortable and all our needs were met. The old wood smell as we entered our cabin (Writer's Cabin) makes you think even more about who had been here before you. The smell reminds you of Grandma's house. We took a long, serene walk in the morning air. The smells of the ranch, the birds, etc. enhanced the walk. The pond with Gazebo was beautiful, although it was blocked due to some repairs on the bridge. That's OK, we will be back again, definitely! When we arrived, we had Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting, along with a vase of fresh flowers. A continental style breakfast was left for us, consisting of coffee, tea, english muffins, granola bars, apples, oranges, milk, orange juice, etc. A pleasant surprise. We LOVED our stay. The natural beauty of this place is simply amazing with all the live oak trees. I would love to return in the spring to see the wildflowers in bloom. Our cabin was rustic and private---very romantic! Horseback riding was incredible as we toured the ranch on owner Carol Davis' paso fino horses. A great escape from the 3 T's----tv, telephone, and technology!

Having drooled over the web site www.blisswood.net and booking a weekend visit after several pleasant conversations with Carol and a simple registration process with much meaningful information shared, I was counting the hours until the visit in January, 2010. Unfortunately, there is a significant difference between the web site and the reality. The issues are really too numerous to mention them all - but several include - spoiled apples, light fixtures without light bulbs, broken lamp shades and lamp bases, torn and stained drapes, pull down blinds that fell down when touched, fireplace that did not draft, blowing all the smoke into the room - and yes, flue open, toilet flushing mechanism that made a very loud sound from flush until tanks full, bugs and cobwebs, etc. It seems that there has been little done to maintain the property in recent years, which is a shame as the web site is beautiful and the concept unique.

Absolutely relaxing and charming bed and breakfast in a country setting that is not too far from the city by any stretch of the imagination. It's like having the key to your own 650 acre ranch where you can relax and soak up the fresh air and choose to do a number of activities or nothing at all . You have the ability to choose the unique house or cottage that appeals to you most (assuming it's not already booked)...the one we chose was immaculate, very spacious, yet with a cozy feel (had a nice porch which overlooked a waterfall and duck pond) and came with a king bed that was much better than a standard hotel as well as a well-equiped kitchen. We dined at the owner's nearby restaurant & bar (guessing a mile or so) and found the food and wine list to be very good...the jalepeno grits and scallops were simply outstanding. The staff at the restaurant and on the ranch are very helpful and friendly, but respect your privacy so that you are not suffocated with undesired attention. We enjoyed looking at the exotic animals on the ranch even saw a bobcat run across the road on our way back to the guest house from dinner on New Year's eve. I would certainly recommend Blisswood to a friend and hope to return again sometime.

Blisswood is a perfect place for all ages, especially people who have lived in the city all their lives. It really opened my eyes and gave me a feeling of the open-area farm life. There were many free roaming animals like chicken, horses (very approachable), a peacock, a camel,...etc. My kids found this extremely entertaining, they enjoyed the horseback ride too. It seems everywhere you turn would make a beautiful picture. We couldn't step out of our cabin without a camera. The cabin itself was designed so aesthetically too. All in all, gorgeous nature and very friendly staff!!!

Our family stayed at the Dittmar House for 2 nights. My son absolutely loved it. It was his first time to ride a horse. Carol took the time and explained to him what he needed to know. I followed my husband and my son in the golf cart (with Skeeter, by the way thanks for the lovely ride and the arrows). We did not get a chance to try the restaurant but will next time. On the way home we decided to visit the Blue Bell Creamery and had lunch at the cutest restaurant at the airport in Brehman. It was a great weekend getaway, close to home, we would do it again.

My wife Maggie and I have recently had our second stay at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast in Cat Spring Texas. Just an hour west of Houston we discovered this 650 acre ranch while looking for a dog friendly B&B that wouldn't take half the week end to drive to. We were so impressed with our first stay that we revisited 6 weeks later. Blisswood has 8 separate cabins spread out over the property. Discerning from our 2 visits, their website at blisswood.net, (and some snooping around), that each of these cabins offers a unique atmosphere which is steeped in a true Texas pioneer spirit. This aura is supported by the period antiques that adorn the interiors. Our second stay was in the "Log Cabin". Honestly, I felt like I was on the movie set of Lonesome Dove with upgrades. I ate a buffalo steak at Carol's restaurant that was as exquisite as the wood plank and leather decor. I'm getting excited about going back just writing about it. That in itself reveals my impression this sprawling Texas treasure.

Carol Davis place in Cat Spring Texas, Blisswood...a place to relax in the country. Several Bed and Breakfast houses on acres of land. Enjoy the serenity and leisure time to be had. Farm animals to visit including peacocks, camel, kangaroo. Take a horse back ride around the property if you like. Enjoy the ponds and lakes as well. I highly recommend this place as well as Carol's Restaurant for fine dining.

The concept is refreshing! A beautiful property with charming houses, cottages and log cabins lovingly furnished amidst enormous oak trees. Each rental has its own privacy and everything one needs to enjoy a country setting in a tranquil environment. Enjoying the animals on the ranch, especially Willie the camel and even a lively kangaroo were a special treat! We also enjoyed horseback riding following trails that led through fields and woods on this lovely 650 acre ranch. This is a must visit and a wonderful retreat for family and friends for any occasion. We all enjoyed our meal at Carol's restaurant, open on weekends and holidays, with its five star menu. We love Blisswood. It is less than 1 1/2 hours from Houston but like traveling to another world. A beautiful setting which provides an opportunity to escape, relax and enjoy the countryside. We are so happy that we went the elopement route, Blisswood was everything that we hoped for and more. Why else do you go to a Bed & Breakfast if not to have some alone, romantic time? We got all of that in our secluded, awesome little Enchanted Cabin at Blisswood. There's an awesome hot tub, but bring your own bubbles! We also brought our own food since we stayed for two nights. There's not much to do but you know... Haha, jk! Enjoy the outdoors. The air smells awesomly non-polluted, this coming from a city dweller. We had tons of fun in the sun! Definitely go for the horseback riding.

5 adults, 3 babies - we all had a great time. Friendly beyond belief, privacy for guests and just an overall lovely place for a break. Easy access for us from Austin and we'll definately be going back.

During our search for our honeymoon I found BlissWood Bed and Breakfast on the website. The pictures and the information provided such a perfect image of how we wanted to spend our honeymoon. The honeymoon really started on the drive out there, the country drive is so relaxing and beautiful. We had an excellent lunch at Carol's Restaurant, I believe I need to work there for a little while just to obtain some delicious receipes. After lunch we were personally escorted to our cabin. The scenary surrounding our room was such an escape...beautiful greenery, flowers blooming, just a peaceful atmosphere. Our room was very clean, well decorated, spacious, and just what we needed. While your there, be sure to schedule some special packages. The picnic on the lake was so sweet, you truly get to be cheesy with your partner. The massages, they were heavenly. We actually choose to do ours outside since the weather allowed and with such beautiful surrounds why not take advantage of complete relaxation to the sounds of nature. There are no strangers in Cat Spring Texas, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. When you view the website you may think that it can't possibly be that perfect ... but truly the pictures do not capture half the greatness. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. I just returned from a weekend at Blisswood with eight women touring the Painted Churches of Texas. We stayed at the Lehmann House, and we loved it! You really have to see it in person to understand the absolute charm of the ranch. Stately oaks, butterflies everywhere, quiet porches, peaceful walks, etc. This would be a great place for a quiet "couples" weekend, too! Armando was wonderful. The staff was available when we needed something; but otherwise, we didn't even know they were around. We ate at the restaurant three times -- the food was delicious!

I thought the long weekend vacation to the Hibiscus Suite in the Oasis would be my ideal vacation, but my experience exceeded my expectations at every turn. I found it was an enchanted tropical oasis. There were visual delights: Eastern Bluebirds in the woods, koy in the pool above the conservatory pool, a garden set for picnics, and a clear, full sky of Texas stars at night, clear of city haze. Instead of the rush of city cars there was the rush of water in soothing fountains. It was refreshing and renewing for mind, body and soul. Like the orchids in the greenhouse, I was nurtured in an ideal environment and like the little fountain outside my suite, my cup was filled with pleasure again and again.

Stayed at Blisswood last weekend with friends for a scrapbooking retreat... absolutely amazing! Beauty in every direction you look... flowers swaying with a cool breeze and butterflies abound, beautiful country! This is Heaven On Earth! Scrapbookers and all... this is a wonderful get-away! Nice, clean homes, along with excellent staff!Pure Bliss! We will be returning in just a few short months. Thank you!

My spouse and I wanted a quiet relaxing place for a few days. We found BlissWood to be that and more. Our stay began the end of Sept thru Oct 1st, 2009 at Sullivan House. A large two story country home nestled in a grove of stately oaks which were probably more than 100 years old. The decor of the home is cozy. Though this area has been experiencing drought, we enjoyed walking among the trees, looking at the various animal tracks and enjoyed the early morning vista which included deer herd grazing among the oaks. BlissWood offers various activities from horseback riding to golf carts for those preferring a non-living ride. We had the opportunity to enjoy a Texas Wine tasting dinner at Carol's. What a unique and tasty experience. The food, atmosphere and staff were WONDERFUL!! So give Carol's a try. It's only open Fri-Sunday but a true dining experience. The surrounding area offers Texas back road driving and hidden gems in the countryside. We will definitely be returning to BlissWood.

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Blisswood in their Log Cabin, and it was great! We arranged for an afternoon picnic in the gazebo overlooking the lake and had dinner that evening at Carol's restaurant - all wonderful! The horseback riding the next morning was fantastic! I can't say enough about our experience at the Blisswood Bed and Breakfast in Cat Springs, TX. We were blown away by the beauty of our surroundings. My wife and I wanted to get away from our busy lives and have a quiet, romantic stay somewhere. Well, we got that and much more! Our suite was very cozy and romantic. The area where we stayed had a very tropical feel to it. Lots of tree, plants, and flowers. We even had our own indoor private pool surrounded by lots of vegetation. Wish we could have stayed another day to enjoy that! The bed & breakfast is location on a ranch with lots of animals for your viewing pleasure, such as camels, buffalo, peacocks, cows, and horses to name a few. In addition, to our a nice accomodations, there was a local restaurant, Carol's Restaurant. The food and service were top notch. Also, there are several activities and packages to purchase while you stay at Blisswood. We went on a private horseback ride with the owner herself, Carol Davis, and had an amazing picnic lunch waiting at a Gazebo surrounded by a beautiful lake. Carol was so hospital and friendly. It was such a privilege getting to know her. She definitely made us feel welcomed and loved. We look forward to heading back again one day soon. We have been going to Blisswood for the past four years, and will continue for years to come. Our son was 3 when we first went there and he still calls it 'our ranch.' We usually take one or more of our dogs whom all love the new smells and fresh country air. It is a place for us to slow down and reconnect as a family. And only being a little over an hour outside of Houston, it is a world away from the bustle and rush of city living. The new staff are wonderful too. Mike is extraordinarily knowledgable about so many things and is amazing with kids. Brandy is responsive and very helpful. And if you haven't eaten at Carol's resturant, you are missing a great meal.

Needing some time for myself, I was looking for a B&B that was only a few hours from Houston and provided a peaceful, country setting. I found BlissWood via the Internet and was impressed the first time I viewed the website. Only about an hr West of Houston, BlissWood combines rustic, but comfortable lodging at a very reasonable price. The Dog Trot House Loft was spacious and filled with amazing antiques. The weather was nice so I was able to enjoy the fresh air on a walk around the property. BlissWood also offers other ammenities including picnic lunches around the lake, spa treatments in your lodging and horseback riding. Overall it was a great experience and look forward to visiting again!

Each accommodation at Blisswood (there are about 10) is different, and they're scattered about the 650 magnificent acres. Ours, the Sullivan House, was at the end of a ranch road, completely private, and included a front porch with rockers, fully equipped kitchen, living room with a wood-burning fireplace, a large dining area, and 3 charmingly decorated bedrooms. It was set in the amazing beauty of old oak trees with its own lake. At the barn, where we met for a trail ride, we first met Carol, owner and host, and a variety of animals and birds. Carol, led the ride, which was amazing - there were llamas, bison, camels, deer, gazelles, goats, cattle, horses, emus, and much more - all in very magical settings. Skeeter, a Pulitzer prize winning photographer, came along in a golf cart, photographing us the whole way (which he subsequently burned to disks and gave us as souvenirs). Another morning we went around the ranch in golf carts and fed (and photographed) the animals - more surprises, more fun. In addition to hiking and biking within the ranch, we explored the area by car. We'd never been in Texas before, so were in awe of everything, from the general stores and local eateries, to the big sky, to the small towns to the beautiful scenery - not to mention, the local tavern. Carol's at Cat Springs Cafe, is a rustically elegant restaurant, with a very talented and enthusiastic chef from New Orleans (my daughter is a vegan and he was excited to create interesting dishes for her). The food was delicious and creative, the staff was extraordinary. We even had the pleasure of meeting Carol's baby kangaroo, Roger, there. If you're looking for a laid-back vacation, enveloped in nature but with all the creature comforts, this is a place! The staff is incredibly personable and attentive, but not in your face - just a cell phone call away. Brochures are provided for places of interest within the area, if one wants to do some sightseeing - or not.....

I found this wonderful place in Texas Highways and realized that I definitely wanted to visit. So with some of our friends, my husband and I spent a wonderful weekend at the Lehmann House in January 2009. What a beautiful place! The house was warm and inviting and we felt like we had our own special place on the ranch. We also ate at Carol's restaurant in Cat Spring and were warmly greeted by our hostess, Carol Davis. The food was great and the atmosphere was right on. We will definitely make many more trips to Blisswood and probably try out some of the other accomodations on the property (even though we loved Lehmann House). My stay at the Sullivan House in January 2009. When I booked the house for a vacation I was just looking for peace and quiet. We didn't reach the Sullivan House until it was dark but as soon as I stepped inside I was pleasantly surprised. The pictures just don't do it justice. It took me back to a time when things were simple. I found something new every day. The decor is comfortable and relaxing in a way that you don't mind being inside. (Where I work the walls feel like they close in once in a while) We woke up every morning and drank coffee on the front porch in the rocking chairs and watched deer grazing. Every night we had a fire in the fire place and you could still smell it the next morning. Every evening when we returned from our exploring we would see deer on the property and usually have to wait for the armadillo to walk across the drive way. Believe me, he was in no hurry. That was nice. We managed to see rabbits once while we were there. We were surprised to see as many animals as we did for the time of year. We walked the grounds and saw tracks for racoon, hog, and deer. But what I loved the most was the trees. Absolutely beautiful. We didn't spend too much time on the rest of the property but did look around before we left and took pictures of the exotic animals on the property. We were invited to looked around the other houses and the Lehmann House will probably be the next place we stay at. Each place had it's own charm. If you want a place to relax Blisswood is perfect. I was very pleased with the staff. There is a difference between someone who works for a living and someone who loves what they do. It shows.

We stayed at the Texas Farmhouse at Blisswood for the New Years weekend 2009. This is the perfect getaway for busy people in Houston. Leave your electronics at home, without TV or Internet you can enjoy tranquility in a wonderful working ranch enviornment in first class accomodations and wonderful Management. Carol's touch and enthusiasm is all over the place and it is clear that it is a labor of love. We enjoyed quiet walks and picnics and watching animals from the porch, reading books and connecting with each other. We cooked for ourselves and we also ate in Carol's award winning resturant near the property which can hold its own with the best in Houston. A wonderful combination and just an hour from Houston --- we will be planning more weekends there without a doubt. We can't wait to try the Enchanted Cabin for us and the Dog Trot house when we bring friends and family.

My wife and I have been married for about 9 years and we try to do vacations and/or getaways every year. Our 3 -day stay at the Blisswood B&B was the best EVER in our marriage. We stayed at the Texas Farmhouse. We loved the early 20th century setting of everything and no TV or other electronics that make life so stressful nowadays. We did horseriding and what fun that was!! We rode for hours and the owner, Carol Davis, rode with us on the beautiful ranch. The scenery was so, so beautiful and peaceful. We will surely return!

I am a seasoned B&B traveler (over 15 years), and Blisswood is truly refreshing and amazing! We stayed at the Log Cabin. Being in the Log Cabin is like being transported to another place and period. I loved the unfinished floors and rustic interior. Bathing in the soaking tub in the unfinished wood bathroom is just a treat in itself - after a long day of trail riding at the other ranch, and then bedding the horses, it felt like heaven. Then, we went to Carol's restaurant a few miles away. The food is ASTOUNDING! The cabin is so sound insulated that you wake up in the morning feeling like you might walk outside and have been transported to Montana or Wyoming. To folks who are finicky sleepers and hear EVERYTHING, you might try the Dogtrot, Writers Cabin, or even the Enchanted Cabin. We were even able to put in a two mile trail ride on our Walking horses, and it was so amazingly peaceful and beautiful. We cannot WAIT to get back! Blisswood is not a place to go and expect to "do it all" in a weekend. This is a real working ranch , which is a business unto itself, and you are a privileged guest invited to observe and in some regards participate. It is an opportunity to form a relationship with Carol and her staff, and that is why we look forward to many many stays! It is TRULY remote, and while basically unhosted, each house is fully equipped for fixing and storing food, so be sure to bring what you need to be happy! Don't count on your cell phone working in the heart of the property - and to get internet access on a card, you might have to drive to Bellville or Sealy. Vacation stems from the word "vacate" - and Blisswood is the PERFECT place to which to VACATE! I come back refreshed and bonded with my animals in a way that would never happen anywhere else! The perfect heart of the hill country, happy and healthy animals, beautiful period accommodations - in a word - remote luxury!

What a place! Our grown family and friends spent the Thanksgiving holidays here and it was the right place to come. It is hard to find a place where the ages of 78 to 17 would enjoy the stay. We had 5 cabins, with lots of room for games, walking and relaxing. We brought some horses and it is a place that you can walk or ride everyday and be filled with joy of the landscape. The help was readily available and cabins were so awesome. I will be back for a romantic get away or a girls weekend to relax. Carol's resturant is worth the trip, the setting is perfect and classy, you do feel like you are really treating yourself. Thanks Carol for sharing your heaven with us. The Neuman's

Blisswood is a perfect spot for a honeymoon or romantic getaway! It is secluded enough to have lots of privacy, yet close enough to larger towns for food and entertainment. The ranch has some great activities for those looking for an adventure. Overall, wonderful accomodations and experience!

It is that time again, and we are looking forward to our annual New Years Eve "Hunkering Down" at a Texas B&B. And, once again, we find ourselves drawn to our favorite get-away - Blisswood. There is no better way to avoid the crazy festivities of New Years Eve than to escape into the massive oaks and down-to-earth cabins in Cat Spring for a few nights. Between the Enchanted Cabin, the Dog-Trot, and the Lehmann House, we have a hard time deciding which place to unwind in...... so we'll just have to continue to work our way through them until we figure it out. We look forward to another fantastic New Year's mind, body, and soul reset, and to reserving another getaway with friends soon. As always, thanks again to Carol and her attention to the details and providing us with our favorite hiding place. Beautiful scenery, a variety of domesticated animals (the deer let you pet it & mingled with the dogs), a friendly staff & the most wonderfully comfortable and secluded cabin. We stayed in the Enchanted Cabin & spent the days on the lakes, talking under the trees, taking long baths in the huge jacuzzi tub & enjoying our own home cooked meals. It was so wonderful, we didn't want to leave. The bed was especially comfortable with exceptionally cozy linens. I came home & decided not to keep our television in our room & to buy a new bed set. I long to be back on the bank of the Enchanted lake.

we spent our honeymoon here and it could not have been more peaceful and quiet anywhere else. This is a perfect in the woods getaway, and we would recommend it to anyone who likes peace & quiet! The property is absolutely gorgeous and we found it easy to get around. We especially liked the old trees, and seeing the other cabins that were spread out on the property. We stayed at the Magnolia Suite and the room was decorated very rustic, matter of fact there was a tree in the center of the room. You have to see it to believe it!!! We will certainly be booking again, maybe staying at the Enchanted Cabin which was even more secluded that where we stayed this time. The managers of the property were very attentive and kind. Upon arrival you will instantly relax as you settle into the natural beauty that abounds at Blisswood. Ease back, and become one with nature and the destination to get the full effect. Casual, unpretentious and peaceful best describes this ranch style B& B. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the back porch of the Texas Farmhouse, played with the donkeys, petted the friendly ranch cats and dogs who automatically adopt you and just took in all the splendor of the huge oak trees located on the 650 acre ranch. We enjoyed a delightful dinner at Carol's restaurant on Friday nite and ended our stay with Sunday Brunch. We also went horeseback riding early Sunday morning which really allows you to see the phenomenal beauty of the ranch. Lovely oak trees, ponds, and serenity at every turn. Just by chance, Carol also had a lady horse whisper scheduled for a visit to start the process of getting two of her horses familiar with people and lay the base for their training. What a tremendous experience this was to watch the transformation and gain a better perspective of the process. We will definitely be back and reccomend to our friends who are looking to escape the crazy fast pace life, and just take a deep breath.

I was part of a woman's retreat Oct. 10-12 and can honestly say that every single woman loved Blisswood. Our cabins were charming and very "Texan" - rolling hills and surrounded by enormous oak trees. The lake, farm animals, fantastic food, everything was indeed blissful. We all came away with a "peaceful, easy feeling" and are looking forward to our spring retreat next April - back to Blisswood. The owner is very hands on and made sure we were well taken care of. We recently discovered Blisswood, just by reading a tourist magazince when we set out to ride to Columbus Tx on Labor Day weekend. What a pleasant surprise to find such a wonderful, peaceful place, away from the crowds and noise of the big city yet only a short drive from Sugar Land, Tx. There was only one opening for the Sat. that we arrived, so we stayed in the Log Cabin. It was great to be out in the country and close to the animals. Carol even invited us to join her when she went around to feed the animals. When a opening became available for Sun. night we moved to the Writers Cabin, a smaller place but tucked away in the trees with lots of peace and quiet. We enjoyed our stay so much that several weekends later we returned and stayed in the Enchanted Cabin. It was so surrounded by trees that we almost missed it. The lake and all the surrounding woods and land made it the most private and peaceful. The jacuzzi tub looking out into the woods was great. Dinner at the restaurant, Carol's at Cat Spring was wonderful - the best grilled vegetables that I have ever had. The food and dining experience is well worth the drive from Sugar Land. With a chef from La. you can't go wrong. We are looking forward to returning to Blisswood and staying at the other houses. Each one is a unique experience. We enjoyed the antique furnishings and the quilt collections. Carol is an amazing woman and a gracious host. Thank you for your hospitality. We are looking forward to our next visit. My husband and I spent two nights in The Dog Trot House/Magnolia Suite.  Unfortunately, this stay was a big disappointment to us.  The suite was pretty nice and we really enjoyed the jacuzzi tub.  There were just a lot of other things that disappointed us.  This is an unhosted property and it is located in the country.  Those facts were fine with us.  We have stayed at other places like this and everything has been fine.  We had some questions and/or concerns after arriving.  There was a folder with a long list of contact numbers.  We couldn't get in touch with anybody or get anybody to call us back.  After almost 24 hours of being there, I finally managed to reach the owner.  She told me that all of the staff other than herself were on vacation.  Thank goodness we didn't have a major emergency.  My husband wasn't very impressed with the cleanliness of the suite.  The milk that was left in the fridge for our breakfast was outdated and spoiled.  It was just a combination of things that didn't impress us.  Even if a property is unhosted and located in the country, it still needs to be organized and run well.  It just seems like we were left high and dry on this stay.  We don't plan to return to this property unfortunately.

I amm so sorry for this guest's disappointed experience. As clearly listed on the website, we are an unhosted property, and that means a guest may not see anyone around. I did talk to this guest, and her only problem was not being able to immediately get in touch with anybody, and that is the only thing she complained about. I wrote a letter of apology and sent her a gift certificate. We work very hard here to please all guests and make sure they have happy experiences and that they leave with good memories. I am now carrying two cell phones to try to make sure guests can get ahold of me 24/7. Again, I'm sorry for this unhappy experience.

This is an excellent place to getaway. I will be going back as soon as possible.

Wow – what a fun and fabulous place! We enjoyed our stay in our beautifully decorated log cabin – the antiques and quilts really made it a special place! Carol, our host is a tremendous person with a talent for making people feel comfortable and right at home. My stepson’s favorite part was feeding the animals with Carol each morning – horses, deer, cattle, dogs, birds, cats, donkeys, and camel! My husband’s favorite part was the amazing food at Carol’s restaurant. My favorite part was the trail ride – Carol and I had the opportunity to take her beautiful Paso Fino horses on an exciting trail ride – we rode through the pastures, creeks and meadows and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was hard to leave the gorgeous property, we have made new friends and we look forward to our next trip to Bliss Wood!
