Absolute Gem!

5 on September 23, 2014

My fiancé and I decided to do the elopement package after we weren't getting any help from our wedding party. We had an absolute blast here. Everything was taken care of and all we had to do was relax and enjoy the scenery. We will definitely be back for another visit. Top notch place, top notch folks!

Innkeeper Response
I love being called top notch. Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed your stay and very happy you were relaxed. Hope to see you again soon.

Perfect Place to Elope

5 on September 19, 2014

I brought my (now) wife to this lovely B&B to get married, and we couldn't have been more satisfied! Don performed the ceremony while Debbie took pictures. The location was both beautiful and private--necessities for our 3-day stay / honeymoon. The best part was Debbie's breakfast that Don served us every morning. It was WOW! Creative dishes plus good home cooking equaled a fabulous start to the day! If you're looking for a reasonably priced location for your wedding or honeymoon that offers a scenic, secluded atmosphere, the Star of Texas Bed and Breakfast is hard to beat.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you so much for your compliments on my cooking, I try to make it special. We are pleased that you were happy with your stay and your ceremony. Hope to see you again in the future. Deb

Weekend Getaway

4.8 on September 09, 2014

The hubby and I were in serious need of a getaway after recent work stress and travel. SoT was just what we needed! the property feels remote and peaceful, but is close enough to town to take advantage of great lunch and dinner options. We stayed in the Oak Cottage, and it was simply perfect. Don and Deb were both very helpful and welcoming. The bed and bedding were so comfortable, and the hot tub was awesome! We enjoyed taking in the countryside via the nature trails that they have set up around the property. Breakfast was delicious! Our first morning we were served a wonderful spread of orange infused french toast with fresh melon and rosemary scrambled eggs. Super yummy and the perfect start to our day! Deb had let me know ahead of time that they would be running off to a B&B convention and wouldn't be available to provide a full breakfast for our second and final morning. However, they comped us the amount for the full breakfast and still set us up with fresh fruit cups, juice and homemade scones. Delish, and perfect for a breakfast on the go! A total treat from start to finish. We will make plans to visit again soon.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you so much for your review. We had a great time at the B&B conference and hope you all will come again and we can share our love for what we do, and what we learned with you. We hope your experience here will help you to decide to stay at more B&B's. Deb

Peaceful

5 on August 06, 2014

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Wildrose Retreat for our 10th anniversary and it was wonderful. The retreat was so quiet, the hot tub so relaxing and the stars so bright. Don and Deb were amazing hosts and we appreciate them for sharing their little piece of heaven with us. If you have a chance to stay you won't regret it. Oh, the breakfast was amazing! Thank you Don and Deb.

Innkeeper Response
We appreciate your review. And yes we love sharing our "Stars" with everyone. Our night skys are so beautiful out here. We hope you will return another time to enjoy the hot tub. deb

Did the elopement package and one night stay in the Oak Cottage. Could not have asked for anything better. The hospitality, the ceremony and the vows (they wrote), the quaintness....just perfect! Thank you so much Don and Deb...highly recommend...

Innkeeper Response

A Superb and Secluded Stay

4.8 on July 31, 2014

My bride and I recently spent the first two nights of our honeymoon at Star of Texas, and we give it our strong recommendation. Everything was absolutely lovely, and quiet atmosphere and beautiful grounds were consummately relaxing and romantic. Perhaps our favorite aspect was the seclusion: the B&B is found at the end of a long and shady drive in the countryside, and the individual cottages are spaced a comfortable distance from each other on the wooded, rolling property. The simple prettiness of the place was also enchanting, with Don and Debbie's artsy doodads scattered liberally around the grounds and the nature walk through the trees. The rooms themselves were not especially fancy, but were simple, comfortable, artistic, and clean. We loved it all. The owners themselves were extremely polite and helpful. They allowed us to take our wedding photos at the B&B, and we could not be more pleased with the results. Breakfast was also superb. The meals were wholesome and delicious with a touch of flair. The poppy seed pancakes and accompanying citrus syrup were hands down the best I've ever had. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Star of Texas. Don and Debbie have created a magical little place in the woods outside Brownwood, and my wife and I can't wait to return.

Innkeeper Response
We appreciate you taking the time to write our review. Thanks for all the compliments, we love having guest that can appreciate all the "doodads" that we love to create. Our rooms are simple and peaceful, for our guest to enjoy. We do look forward to you all coming again.

Perfect Elopement and Getaway!

4.8 on July 28, 2014

My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better way to start our married life together. Don and Deb thought of all the little details for our wedding. The dinner and breakfasts were great and the massage was just what we needed. After all that it was just nice to be out where it was quiet and peaceful, where we could spend time together and getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The only thing we thought could be different was the faucet in the Oak Cottage. It is so close to the wall it is hard to wash hands or brush teeth. Other than that everything else was about the room was perfect. Thank you for a perfect wedding and stay! We will definitely be back!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for the review, we are glad it went well for you. On the faucet, that came from an old hotel and I fell in love with the way it went with the decor, I agree, it is a little close to the wall, but thanks for your honesty. Maybe I can find something to replace it with someday that will fit. deb

Nice time

5 on July 24, 2014

Room was pretty awesome. Sad there are no donkeys.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks for the review. Sorry about the donkey's, we have been without grass for them for quite a long time, so decided to move them to greener pastures. We gave them to some friends and they are belly deep in grass. Hope you come again. deb

Diamond in the rough

If you're looking for a quiet relaxing secluded get away . This is the place for you. Recently had a girls overnight trip with My Mom, Big Sis and I. The cottage was was very cool and comfortable and clean and overlooked a pond that received dusk and dawn visits in the form of a group of deer. We enjoyed sitting out on the porch watching and listening to the sounds of the forest.very relaxing and a nice change from our busy days. Deb and Don were wonderful hosts made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed and greeted us in the morning with a hot scrumptious meal brought right to our cottage. It was my Moms birthday and said she had the best time ever. We will definitely be going back as often as possible.

Innkeeper Response
We are so glad that it was a good trip for your Mom's Birthday. We enjoyed talking with her about the history of the area and finding we had some connections. Hope to have you all back again. deb
