We had a great time. It was quiet and peaceful. Hosts were wonderful and they even accommodated us with gluten free breakfasts.
Thank you for your review, we enjoyed having you. I am trying to work on the gluten free breakfast so it has more taste, some of the items are a challenge. Deb

Our trip to Star of Texas far exceeded all expectations. We absorbed every ounce of beauty the property had to offer. A glass of wine by the camp fire, a moonlight dip in the hot tub while taking in the peaceful environment. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the owners, Don & Deb. This was a much needed trip to the country for some rest and relaxation. What we received was quite the blessing!
We appreciate you doing a review for us. We are so excited that your stay exceeded your expectations. Hope to see you again for another relaxing stay. deb

The ceremony was very nice. The locations were so unique and the art along the nature trail is a must see. We will definitely return. It was very nice to be away in a peaceful, restful location.
Thank you for your review. I love it when folks enjoy our property and all the whimsical things that we stash along the trail. We do hope to have you again in the future.Deb

This was my second time going to Star of Texas with my now-husband and it still exceeds my expectations. I love this quiet, romantic inn that includes the privacy of individual cabins with the warmth of outgoing innkeepers. The grounds are fun to walk through, thanks to Don and Debbie's eclectic art pieces and the cute miniature donkeys. Small touches like a miniature bottle of wine upon arrival, delicious homemade chocolates in the room every day and breakfast delivered to your door make this the perfect place to unwind and rekindle romance.
Thanks for the review, we always love having repeat guest come see us again. Hope to see you all again and see what new things are to come along the trail. deb

My husband took me to Star of Texas for our 5 yr Wedding Anniversary. It was so peaceful, relaxing, and just what we needed to reconnect. Don and Deb make you feel right at home and give great information to find places to go during your stay. The food is excellent and cant believe that it is homemade!! Cant wait to go again!
Thank you for your compliments on the cooking, we try hard to make our meals creative, tasty and filling. We hope to see you all again soon. deb

My fiance and I arrived on Christmas day and enjoyed two nights at this beautiful and private B&B. The Oak Cottage is nicely furnished and constructed, I loved the bathroom sink! Much of the iron work for the tables and such, were hand forged by the owner. The breakfast was delicious, unique and delivered to your room every morning. This is an excellent place to just spend some time alone and relax. The owners are attentive and wonderful people who will ensure you have what you need. Can't wait to go back!
Thanks for your review. It was nice having folks here for Christmas. We are glad that it was a peaceful time for you and you enjoyed your stay. Looking forward to you coming again. deb

Just a lovely, quaint little place out in the country. We loved our stay in the Cottonwood cabin and the beautiful quiet, especially coming from downtown Dallas. Service was wonderful and their delivered breakfasts were delicious! Lots of wildlife, including families of deer. It was fun to interact with their donkeys and EXTREMELY friendly cat out on their trail. Did lots of exploring, and I'd recommend going to visit the Brownwood State Park. The only suggestion I'd make is to make the dirt road entrance to Morelock Ln from the paved road a little more clear. We always passed it when coming in from town, no matter how hard we tried to look out for the blue person. My husband also suggests finding a way to block the view the neighbors have to the cabins, like trees--we felt it was kinda weird walking around in our swimsuits to the Jacuzzi feeling like someone might be watching. But it wasn't that big of a deal, we still loved our two-night stay regardless! Definitely recommend!
Thanks for your review. We don't a have sign at the highway since it keeps folks from just driving up, that's why we thought the fun "Gumby" man would help folks. We have tried for years to add trees down at the Cottonwood, but to no avail have they grown. Thanks for your suggestions, we will keep trying to improve. Hope to see you again.

We spent our 15th wedding anniversary weekend at this amazing B&B, we drove 7 hours on ICE in the worst storm in Texas in the past 25 years and the drive was worth EVERY second! Debbie and Don went COMPLETELY out of their way to make our weekend unforgettable, despite the hardships that the ridiculous weather caused. The food was AMAZING, the property BEAUTIFUL, the rooms LOVELY and there is barely a spot on the entire 20+ acres that doesn't have SOMETHING cool, interesting, beautiful and picturesque. In addition, the couple Don and Debbie shared some much needed wisdom with us and are open, honest and VERY wise and warm people! Mr. Don is an artist blacksmith! Before we left we made our next reservation for March and booked two rooms, as we want to take our teenagers to this amazing place. We also plan to return for our "engagement" anniversary in July. We will NOT be bringing the children on THAT getaway! ;) JUST GO! You will NOT regret it! -J. & R. Lowrimore
Thank you for the review, we were so glad that you all enjoyed your stay in spite of a very long hard drive to get here in the ice. We look forward to you and the boys coming in the Spring.

We have stayed here 3 times and have already decided when our 4th time will be. This place is a great getaway for those that don't get away often and need to relax and have serenity. The location and experience is great, we wouldn't go anywhere else. The meals are wonderful and we love the gift shop too. There's a walking trail and various animals to see and visit with. I would suggest and recommend this to anybody that needs a getaway even if for a weekend.
What is that old saying,"The 3rd time is a Charm"? So glad to have had you all back again, we do look forward to you coming again and seeing which cottage you will select this time. deb

My husband and I were looking for a place to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. I stumbled upon this B&B, and I am so thankful I did. Our weekend was absolutely perfect! We relaxed, went on a hike, petted the donkeys, got massages, got in our private hot tub, played scrabble, and just relaxed the entire weekend. The view is breath-taking. Every morning, we woke up to our large window that overlooked the hill country. The food was AMAZING and the hospitality was even better. All in all, our weekend was very romantic and relaxing. We look forward to returning to SOT again soon.

My wife and I purchased an elopement package at the Star of Texas B&B and we had the greatest experience of our lives(minus our children of course). The ceremony was intimate and very well done. The pictures were also very well done. The cottage we stayed in was very well decorated and we felt at home while we were there. The owners were very friendly and made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The scenery was very beautiful and peaceful. We have already recommended the Star of Texas B&B to our friends and family and we will definitely be going back.
Thanks for taking the time to review us, we are glad you felt comfortable enough to feel like home. We do appreciate you telling friends and family and taking time for this review, see you again. Deb

My new wife and I eloped here in May. Debbie and Don are awesome, and so is the Star of Texas Bed and Breakfast! Our ceremony was perfect, and was just what we were looking for. We stayed in the Cottonwood and loved the room...from the comfy bed, the peaceful views from our porch, the hour long massage, to the soak in the hot tub and the hiking trail through the property, the whole stay was the relaxing getaway that we sorely needed. The meals were wonderful, and we dined on our porch for breakfast and dinner...our experience was so good we extended our stay for another night. Thank you Don and Deb for a great time. We will be back!
We love to hear that folks, had a relaxing getaway, that is what we strive to provide here is a peaceful getaway. Thanks for writing a review, we hope to see you again. Deb

We had our wedding elopement here. Everything was just perfect. Deb and Don do a fantastic job. Our day was perfect. Our entire stay was great. The food is amazing. We have a tempurpedic bed at home and did miss our bed but this one was still plenty comfortable. Plus some of the other cottages do offer tempurpedic which we may try next visit. The only thing we didn't like was we had to leave and come home sooner than we would've liked.
Thank you for your review, we do hope you come again, and yes 3 or the 4 cottages have Tempurpedic mattress in them. Look forward to seeing you again.

This was our first time at a Bed and Breakfast but it certainly won't be our last. Don and Debbie were more than welcoming- even dealing with our questions about operating a Bed and Breakfast (we fell that in love with their place). My husband booked this B&B for a surprise weekend getaway to celebrate our first anniversary and he couldn't have done better (We stayed from April 13th to April 15th 2013). I love nature and a weekend filled with Brownwood's charm, friendly cats and donkeys, and amazing innkeepers and food was the perfect way to memorialize the fact that we made it through our first year of marriage. We stayed in the Oak Cottage. The details made the stay even more perfect- oak leaves to hang the towels on in the bathroom, a beautiful layout with rustic charm everywhere you looked, the best sheets I've ever slept in and our own hot tub to soak in. The food was creative and delicious. I feel as though this review is just me repeating the words amazing, perfect, beautiful and wonderful but those are exactly the words I would use to describe this bed and breakfast. I cannot wait to return. This Bed and Breakfast is clearly a labor of love for Don and Debbie and the positive energy there is compelling. We will definitely go back! Thank you Don and Debbie for such an amazing first bed and breakfast experience. (My apologies it took so long for me to sit down and write this review out)
Well, they say better late than never. Thank you so so much for this review. We are so please that you loved your first experience at our bed & breakfast. The Oak Cottage was a great choice. We do love what we do and are glad that it shows. Look forward to you coming again.

My Wife and I stayed in the Wildrose retreat for two nights (friday/saturday). We had a beautiful elopement on saturday just before noon. Chaplin Don led a beautiful ceremony with wording very unique and fitting. The personal touches made by the owners made us feel very relaxed and like family. The breakfasts that were privided were home made, and I mean very good home made. Fresh baked bread was to die for. The gounds were well kept and provided privacy. The mile long nature trail with the quirky art work was a blast. Keep an eye out for the tour guide (Hint: it's a cat). Overall the Star of Texas B&B was above and beyond what we expected and we plan on returning in the future.
Thank you so much for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed the experience from the trail, to animals to eating and relaxing. We do hope to see you again.

First time ever at a B&B and glad we choose this one. Made us feel so comfortable a fall about us! Definitely a place to stay! Ceremony was intimate but beautiful and pictures were breathtaking! Our cottage was beautiful, very clean and everything we needed was there. We needed a night to ourselves so privacy was a must and that they offered. Food was spectacular and different. Absolutely loved everything this B&B had to offer thank you so much Morelocks!

I can sum up everything about this b & b and our experience in one word - PERFECT! From beginning to end it was the best way to celebrate our anniversary. We choose the Romance package and stayed in the Cottonwood. The room was great and we enjoyed the hot tub, watching the deer come through at dusk, watching all the animals, and sitting outside in a peaceful, quiet setting. Deb and Don were fantastic... they were always there when you needed them, but never intrusive. Absolutely wonderful hosts and the meals were to die for! I only wish I could cook like that. We will definately recommend this b & b to friends and family and we will definately be back!
The word Perfect, is a pretty big word to me. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review and are glad your stay was what you needed. Please come again soon. deb

My husband and I stayed at the Star of Texas Bed & Breakfast to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We were looking for a place that would be quiet and relaxing. I chose to stay in their Oak Cottage and it was as wonderful as I was hoping for. The bed is luxuriously comfortable and the food is to die for. We also enjoyed the private hot tub. If you are looking for a place to just really do nothing, this is the place. Thank you Don and Deb, we will be back.

My husband and I went to Star of Texas last weekend. It was absolutely stunning and perfect. The place is exactly what we were looking for to get married and we were the most relaxed we have been in a very long time. Becca did a wonderful job on our cake and took some fabulous pictures. The breakfasts in the morning were outstanding. Don did a wonderful ceremony and we were very pleased with our vows. I don't know how they did it, but they captured us perfectly. We didn't want to leave it was so wonderful. We are already planning our return trip for next year. Maybe even the end of this one. I would totally recommend you to everyone who will listen. They thought of everything and there was never a moment that we didn't enjoy. Keep up the good work and we will be seeing you.
Thank you so much for your review, we are so happy that your time with us is what you had hoped for. We strive to make every wedding as personal as we can. We look forward to you coming again.

As an older couple we decided that we wanted to just elope the two of us. The Star of Texas was the ideal place. Don married us in a beautiful ceremony, we stayed at the Wildrose Retreat a beautiful little cottage - sooo romantic. We sat out in the hot tub under the stars, ate wonderful breakfasts prepared by Debbie. It far exceeded our expectations. Thank you Debbie and Don. We will be back.

My husband and I stayed at the Star of Texas to begin our honeymoon. It was the perfect choice for us — enough of a drive away from Abilene, but not too far to go after a long, busy day. The Wildrose Retreat was just lovely—cozy, relaxing, and private. Breakfast in the morning was delectable, and we wished that we could've stayed longer to eat there again. Before leaving, though, we enjoyed a walk around the nature trail; not too much to look at (other than wine bottle trees and bowling ball gardens), but an enjoyable experience nonetheless. All in all, a great stay.
We are glad you chose to stay with us and that you did enjoy your time here. We hope you will come again. We are working on lots of new ideas to place along the trail for folks to enjoy, the most popular spot seems to be the Prayer tree where folks leave little trinkets.

I've actually never been to a B&B. But I will say that my expectations will be high IF I ever decide to go anywhere else but here. The food, the cabin, the scenery, the hospitality (by the owners and all the pets!) were all exceptional. I can not think of anything that went wrong or that I would change. We were greeted the minute we drove up, and helped with our bags to our room. We had breakfast brought to our cabin every morning at 9am! We enjoyed the property, the trail, and the pets / wildlife that we saw! I could go on and on. I almost cried when we left! We cant wait to go back!
Thank you so much for your review, we are so pleased that your first experience was so positive. We do hope you will come again and enjoy our place.

My husband and I were married on Saturday in the most beautifully intimate ceremony we could have ever imagined. All the details were taken care of for us, so all we had to do was show up and relax. The ceremony was exactly how we had planned and the Hill Country setting was amazing! We spent the first two days of our marriage relaxing in the luxury of our surroundings. We had massages, dined on the most incredible food and wonderful local wine. We even shared a jacuzzi for two underneath the stars. We could not have asked for a better wedding or honeymoon. Thanks to Don and Deb for an unforgettable wedding weekend!

Don and Deb have created a magical place on their beautiful Texas Hill Country property! My wife and I were married here on August 18th, and stayed in the Wildrose cottage. The cottage was comfortable, cozy, very clean....perfect really! Their place was the perfect setting for our special day. Don performed our ceremony, and Deb did a wonderful job of photographing our day with special attention to every detail. Our cake was beautiful (and delicious)! We had a great breakfast each morning, that was delivered to our cottage promptly at 9 a.m. As part of our package, we had dinner on the night of our marriage in our cottage which was also delicious, and was paired with a very nice bottle of wine from one of the local wineries. I can't say enough about our walks on the trails, our nap in the hammock under the shady trees, and relaxing under the stars in the hot tub on the deck of the Wildrose. We will return next year for our anniversary, and plan to stay an extra day on our next visit to this beautiful Hill Country retreat! Thank you Don and Deb! James & Angela Yakovsky
Thank you so much for writing a review for us, we so appreciate it. We are happy that you felt your time with us was well worth it and will return. We do look forward to seeing you again, and don't forget to find your wedding wine bottle on the 2012 Wedding tree.

My husband and I recently eloped at Star of Texas. We stayed in the Tuscany suite. My friends raved at the photos Debbie took of our ceremony. Our room had a jacuzzi tub for two; it was very intimate and romantic. If you want to have a private, beautifull wedding ceremony this is the place. My biggest tip to future couples is: consider what "must haves" you want in your room before you book because all rooms are unique.

Star of Texas was divine. EVERYTHING was thought of and provided. My husband of 27 years and I very much enjoyed our three day stay celebrating our anniversary. My husband and I just wanted a quick getaway between projects at his work. This place looked adorable online but we are absolutely in love after staying there. The pictures don't do it justice. There is a cute patio and little spot to build a fire and roast some marshmallows. The room is spacious and well decorated which makes it really cozy. The breakfasts were outstanding and very unique. We got a fruit plate package that came with cheeses and bread as well, all of which was to die for. We stayed in the Oak Cottage which is directly next to the walking trail. It even has its own private entrance. They have a couple of miniature donkeys that actually came up to the fence on the last date. If they don't stop by though, you can walk the trail and will catch up with them there. They have yard art throughout the trail and we had an informal cat escort the entire way. The trail is about a mile which is just long enough for us. Jarred (son of the owners) took us down to the lake nearby to go canoeing. We went during the week so it was completely empty except for us and it was wonderful. They had excellent suggestions for restaurants (Runaway Train Cafe, Steve's, and Turtle Restaurant are must stops) as well. I cannot sing their praises enough. My husband and I went to Italy and France in 2010 and I have to say that this is right up there. Sounds ridiculous, I know! For such a small town, this place is an absolute jewel.

Michael and Sharon Villaneuva here. Just got home from the best 3 day vacation we ever had. We stayed at the remote Oak Cottage and slept like babies after hiking the most interesting trails we have ever seen. Bowling ball flowers, wine bottle trees. Ya gotta see it for your self. Advice: pack for 3 days then cut that in half. Bring a small Weber portable grill and some Ribeyes. Bring paper plates and disposeable utinsles. Take lots of water. Enjoy we did. We will be back on November 9th, our 44th anniversary. Count on it. Thanks Don and Deb.

I absolutely adore this place. It is just as beautiful as it is homey and cozy! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the romantic private hot tub, and relaxed fully with a lovely glass of white zin. The owners are so sweet, and you can tell how much love they put into this place. It's just a gorgeous place...I will visit again soon!

This was mine and my boyfriends first experience at a Bed and Breakfast and it beyond exceeded our expectations. I had read in previous reviews about the attention to detail and the amazing breakfast's, and they were totally right....the attention to detail in the entire place is astounding, I don't know how they have had the time to make each and every detail so personal and unique. My husband is a big food guy (like most men) so we ordered the wine and cheese package, may I add as well we ordered the package last minute and Don and Deb were kind and gracious enough to bring it to us in less than 20 mins, and it was fantastic! It was a huge platter of goodies and the wine was a delicious local wine, we definitely recommend ordering that. The breakfast's were to die for as well as many previous reviews have claimed. Another major plus of the Star of Texas is the absolute serenity and peacefulness, they run this B&B so that their guests have very little interaction with other people which we loved because we could really spend a lot of much needed peaceful time with each other. I could go on and on, but in summary I definitely recommend the Star of Texas Bed and Breakfast.

My, now, wife and I knew this was the place for our elopement as soon as we saw their website. We both automatically fell in love with the Oak Cottage, it had loads of personality and charm. A porch with 2 chairs to relax on in the evening gazing up at the stars and listening to the wildlife around us. A delicious breakfast and dinner was brought to our room with a warm smile and at an ideal time. Our elopement ceremony was at a site chosen by us, we chose by the pond with the gentle soft sound of running water in the background, and was intimate and felt very personal. Whilst Don held the ceremony Debbie was quietly shuffling around taking the photographs. There was also a nature trail, with a tour guide 'Star', the cat, and had lots of nice little curiosities along the way. All in all it was perfect and we will definately be returning. Thank you Don and Debbie.

Tires negotiating shallow mud puddles and pop-corning gravel along a mysteriously lengthy graded dirt road navigating creaks and swampy woods laden with scrub oak--this was the precursor to finding treasure, a wonderfully relaxing stay at the Star of Texas. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the finely detailed and fully stocked Tuscany Suite. We bid the evening farewell relaxing in the solitude while sipping Beaujolais on a deck nestled among the trees. A distinctly rustic scent of mesquite smoke wisping from the chimney, the silky sound of water gently trickling in the koi pond; these were among the many pleasantries competing for our attention. Our night's rest was cozy-warm and blissful. A delicious breakfast delivered to our suite signaled a reluctant end to our getaway. Thank you Don & Debbie--what a pleasurable stay, we'll be back!

This was my wifes and I first get a way in the 5 years we've been together and we stayed on the 7th of Jan. 2012. We had really no idea of what to expect as neither of us had been to a B&B before. Your place set the standard for all others to be judged by. Staying with you all done more for us emotionaly that I thought was possible. The Wildrose Retreat was outstanding. Thank you all! Our first vacation without the kids in 15 years. The wildrose room was warm and bed was comfortable. The breakfast and dinner that were delivered to our room were delicious. The nature trail is quiet and peaceful. We feel pampered and rested. Plan to go next year!

A wonderful place to host your wedding. Our "secret" ceremony was perfect and reflected exactly what we keep in our thoughts and hearts. The inn keepers and critters make you fell very welcome from the moment you arrive. If you want to get away from the world for a few days or more we would highly recommend this B&B. We stayed in the Oak Cottage and felt as if we were the only ones there. We had special visits from the donkeys every morning but never too early. Would recommend this as a place to connect with your special someone or just get away for a few days of solitude.

Star of Texas Bed & Breakfast was more that we initially imagined. It is truely a diamond in the rough. The rooms, meals, spa and atmosphere we just great. We celebrated our anniversary and spent three days (Fri - Sun) and it was the most romantic setting we could have ever chosen. We needed something close to home so that we could get back in time for my husband to return to work on Monday. My husband and I enjoyed every moment. We would definately return!!!!!!!!

We weren't really familiar with the area but just wanted to get away and saw the great reviews for this place. We have stayed in many B&B's, in many countries, and it can be difficult to know what to expect, however, we were not disappointed! We stayed in the Tuscany Suite, which is like a treehouse with a lovely relaxing balcony up in the treetops. The room was very clean and full of character. The inkeepers were very helpful, even lighting a fire for us in the courtyard, just wish we would have brought some marshmellows! The breakfast was lovely, brought right to your room at 9am. Very helpful having a fridge in the room, only had to go into town once for dinner (highly recommend The Turtle!). Can't say enough good things, was a perfect place to get away with no TV's or internet.
Thank you so much for your review, we do appreciate every one we get, and when we know that guest have stayed at many other b&b's it helps us to know that we are doing what our guest like. Just as a note we do have 3 rooms with TV and all the rooms do have wireless internet, but we also love offering rooms with no TV so guest spend more time together. Hope to see you again.

This place exceeded all expectations! Great morning breakfast by Deb and Don made sure to give us the run down about the entire place. The stay was so relaxing and even from the moment we walked into the Wildrose we felt the ambiance of relaxation and romance. We loved the games in the gift shop to play before sitting out on the patio in the hot tub. Being from the city I haven't seen clear skies and stars that bright in a long time. the jacuzzi was fabulous as well. Every part of this bed and breakfast is decorated perfectly. Even the small things like the romance spelled out from scrabble letters brought about the feelings and mood of the room. Rowdy and Riley were pretty awesome as well!! Look forward to another stay! and to see if our messages in a bottle are still on the trail!

This B&B was fantastic. I do not like B&Bs in general - too much potential risk for too little potential payoff. I like my privacy and don't want my romantic get-away ruined by outside factors. The Oak Cottage was a stand-alone room in a beautiful setting. It felt like a little cabin in the woods. Even the breakfasts were great. My husband liked even more than I did.
Thank you so much for your kind review, we are very happy that you came and mostly that you left happy, we strive to make each guest feel like they are the only ones here. We do hope you all come again.

one word AWESOME!! My new husband and i were looking for a small elopement in a quaint private setting. Don and Deb made this a spectacular event all we had to do is show up with the license and our attire they took care of the rest. it was so special i would recommend it to anyone whether for a weekend get away, a private elopement or a larger wedding this is the perfect spot. we will definetly be returning in the near future. Thanks again for making our new beginning absolutely perfect. David and Lynn Waco,Tx

This was our second family outing to Star of Texas and we were all delighted with the experience! All four cottages were beautifully arranged and the Morelocks were more than accomodating to each one's individual needs. Anyone who comes to share in the natural beauty and the peace that comes with it will leave wanting to come for more.

My husband and I choose the Star of Texas as our anniversary destination. When we looked on the website it looked like a peace place to get away from the city. When we got there we were completley blown away by the beauty and peacefulness of the place. We stayed in the Tuscany Suite, the tree house effect was so relaxing. We spent most all our time sitting on the deck within the trees listening to the doves!! We will be recommending this B&B to everyone!

Don & Debbie went out of their way to accommodate our special request for a civil wedding ceremony. Don even looked up a special "non-religious" ceremony that was so beautiful we asked them for a copy of it (which was promptly printed up nicely and mailed to us in 2 days). The cottages are very well maintained and clean. The two person hot-tub was a great place to relax in the evening. Breakfast was served promptly at 9 and brought to the cottage nice and hot. It was delicious!! The hiking trail was very interesting with a couple of mini-donkeys that follow you around and entertain with their donkey shenanigans. My bride wanted to hold a chicken so on the day we left Don captured one and gave it to her to hold for a picture. That was nice. Overall a super fun and beautiful place to have a wedding on your own terms. We loved it!!!

My new husband and I could not be more pleased with our experience at the Star of Texas B&B. We had a beautiful wedding ceremony and didn't have to worry about a thing! Don and Deb's attention to detail makes this place truly special. We will be spending anniversaries here for years to come! The breakfast is wonderful, scenery is beautiful, and overall a great experience. Thank you for making our first days of marriage so memorable! Brooke and J.R. Duke

Just got back home after spending the weekend at the the Oak Cottage. Walked the nature trail each morning, welcomed the nourishment of the fabulous breakfast, and relaxed on the private front porch under the full moon. The spirit of the place helps you to breathe again. Can't wait to return to the Oak Cottage on our next trip to Texas.

We definitely loved the place! A perfect place in the middle of nowhere, made the best getaway for our honeymoon. Unfortunately we were not able to do the canoe ride because there was no water! But the massage was great :) We are looking forward to being there another weekend to relieve stress and enjoy nature.

My wife and I really needed a place to relax and unwind, and the Star of Texas B&B was the perfect place. We particularly enjoyed relaxing at the stone table on the Tuscany Suite porch at the top of the winding staircase, listening to the running water and enjoying the hill country breeze through the post oaks. Thanks, Don and Deb, for providing such a wonderful weekend getaway!

My wife and i went to the Star of Texas for our honeymoon. What we found there was a very beautiful and quiet place in which to leave the cares of the world behind! The room we stayed in...the Tuscany suite, was awesome!! the stay was very private. The innkeepers did not bother you and truly it seemed as if we were the only two people anywhere around. truly we wished that we did not have to leave! certainly we will return!!! Thank you so very much for a truly wonderful honeymoon stay!! Talisheia and Patrick Lee

To be so close to home (5min away) you feel like you are worlds away. This is an amazing Bed and Breakfast. The environment, the people, the animals, the food, everything leads you to have an amazing experience. It is an awesome place for alone time, to celebrate or just recharge. So peaceful, we will go back over and over and over again!!!

Location is great for a weekend getaway and the owners are extremely nice. This would be a location to visit on a regular bases. Even with the temperatures over 100 degrees during our stay, it was very pleasant all around. Quiet at night with soft lights all over and the pond was a pleasant sound to hear at night. Home cooked breakfast was wonderful and very tasty. ( thanks for attending our special needs with certain foods allergies)

We got married on August 4, 2011 and all we had to do is show up with our wedding attire and our license and that was it. Don and Deb did everything else from the flowers, the ceremony, pictures, and the reception (the cheese cake was the best). We only got to stay one night but we felt totally relaxed. My husband and I really got to focus and connect with each other without the distractions of phones, television, and the hustle and bustle of the city. It felt almost like a dream in an awesome way. We will definately go back for future anniversaries and i would recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone that wants to have a very intimate elopement and or wedding. Also the pricing was just right, we got well worth our money and including gas from Tulsa we spent under $700 for everything. I am so glad we decided to do this instead of the Justice of the Peace, it was so much more special and we will remember for the rest of our lives.

We did the elopement package in July. It was wonderful. Don & Deb are wonderful people and really went out of their way to make the day special for us. They were available when needed, but weren't constantly in the way. It was romantic and wonderful to escape the rigors of everyday life and enjoy the peace and quite of their lovely bed & breakfast. We will definitely have to go back to stay.

We were fortunate to have found Star of Texas B&B online for our honeymoon getaway. It was everything anyone could want from a quality bed and breakfast. It's apparent that Don & Debbie are committed to the quality of their lifestyle, the property, and the comfort, experience and enjoy!ment of their guests. Everywhere you look, there are unique and unexpected touches of style and craftsmanship. A wonderful, relaxing get-away-from-it-all in the Texas Hill Country. Thanks for the perfect breakfasts and for the opportunity for an unforgettable stay! We couldn't recommend Star of Texas more highly, although we will try...
5 on June 29, 2011
This was a very nice B&B. They owners had thought of everything. There's a nice nature trail, the bed was very nice, the tub was outstanding, and breakfast was fabulous to see and eat, and that's not always the case! The t.v. was small but it's like having one on a honeymoon... unnecessary. Will recommend to friends and re-stay if in the area.
5 on June 26, 2011
The Star of TX B&B completely exceeded our expectations. We wanted a quiet, pleasant getaway and received a relaxing, romantic adventure. The Texan ambiance was matchless and we felt as though we were the only couple there. We spent extra for the dinner and it was fresh, light, and delicious and was paired with an excellent wine. The owners provided homemade soaps that we liked so much we purchased some to take home. We will definitely be back!

Great people, be ready for a mouth watering breakfast with fruit and juice around 0900. Our last day we were served italian eggs half a peach garnished with cream and mint on top, a black/ blueberry tart. The black berries were from Debbie's garden. Nice escape from it all. The birds a chirping all the time. Lovely view for seeing the stars at night. The fruit and wine tray is an awesome treat! It comes with chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate dipped apricot and crushed nuts on top. The sweetest grapes and almonds, cashews, pecans...etc. different types of cheese, and crackers. So, soooooooooooo good yummy! First time I see my husband eat fruit and enjoy every bite. The pets also great company!!! This is a really nice place to stay and if you go into town the Innkeepers recommend the Turtle we must say so do we. The pizza on Wednesday so good fresh ingredients, they also have a bar and gelato!!! Go now don't you'll be missing out!

We were looking for a place to get away for our anniversary but due to family obligations, could not travel far from home. Imagine my delight when I found the Star-of-Texas Bed and Breakfast in nearby Brownwood, TX. It looked so welcoming from the pictures on the website that we decided to book our romantic getaway. We arrived at the Star-of Texas with much anticipation and excitement. The location is secluded and scenic, very much "off the beaten path". The room was lovely and clean. It was incredibly relaxing, sitting on the veranda, listening to the water trickle in the water pond (wow-the koi were huge) and listening to the doves coo. We spent the whole time mostly sitting on the veranda, just soaking up the atmosphere. The meals were exquisite-simple, delicious food. We highly recommend the "Wine Country Weekend" package. Don and Deb were wonderful hosts and we cannot speak highly enough about our experience at the Star-of-Texas Bed and Breakfast. You will not be disappointed! :-)

Our stay at Star of Texas B&B was absolutely wonderful! It was tranquil, quaint and peaceful. We were able to slow down from the "hustle and bustle" of everyday life, and enjoy the beauty of quiet and stillness. The setting was attractively romantic and left us refreshed and relaxed! We can't wait to go back and have already recommended it to several of our friends.

My husband & I wanted a secluded getaway, preferably in a quiet, country setting. It also needed to be unique, serve a good breakfast, and located fairly close to home. Star of Texas B&B fit all the criteria! The 20 acre property is very artsy and fun to explore. Our cabin was perfect due to its privacy and exclusive front porch. We are already planning a return visit.

My hubby and I stayed here on the last weekend of April 2011 for our 6 year anniversary. We stayed in the Tuscany Suite up in the trees. I think that was my favorite part, being able to sit outside and feel like I am in a tree house. It was definitely a romantic weekend, minus all of the distractions of the outside world. Don was the lone host that weekend and he did AWESOME! If I could pick the B&B up and move it closer to me, I would stay there all the time!! ;o) Thanks for the awesome hospitality and awesome stay! Your place is just beautiful! :o)

We passed the weekend at this establishment and were also married here, as well. It is a place of great peace, contentment, and happiness. I loved the fact that there was not a t.v. in our cottage. Plenty of time to share with one another and enjoy this little hidden gem. Breakfast was scrumptious and delivered at EXACTLY 9am. Don and Deb were very hospitable and imagine what a surprise it was when I discovered that Deb was also a native south Texan like ourselves. We absolutely loved this place. It was heaven! Simple, beautiful, and comforting. AND most importantly....not too far from Dallas. Don & Deb, we will see you sometime soon. Keep up the good work and thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for the intimate wedding ceremony. -Leroy & Samantha Garcia

Our daughter and her husband have stayed here several times and always came back singing the praises of this place. So with their encouragement and a gift to us we went to see for ourselves. Our place was in the Willowbend room. It was very clean and well appointed. The 1 mile hiking trail with "special trail guides", a cat named Star and two donkeys. Rowdy and Riley made for a fun early morning hike. Along the trail are some very intertesting sights to see. The breakfast was delicious and the hospitality just right. We are telling our families about this place. Couples will find that time stands still for awhile and that is what we all need at times.

My wife and I loved this place. The hosts couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. The courtyard is peaceful and so are the walks around the property. Lots of hooks in our room so nothing went on the floor. This is an an overall wonderful place to relax. Our hosts know lots of cool places to go; all you have to do is ask.

By far the best Bed and Breakfast place we have visited in 19 years of marriage and going to 9 different places. The service and food was perfect. We could have not asked for a better anniversary location. Don and Deb are awesome and Deb's cooking is second to none (loved the homemade pizza the night we arrived) as well as the creative and delicious breakfasts.

Debbie & Don made our elopement so special! Every detail of our stay was perfect! We stayed in the Wild Rose Retreat, which is very romantic. There are candles waiting to be lit, a jacuzzi for two and an amazing hot tub! We took full advantage of the intimate setting & barely left our cottage. Along with the basic elopement, we also purchased the Wine Trail Package. We promise it will not disappoint. The food is amazing! The picnic basket we received for lunch was packed full, the pizza for dinner was delicious & of course the chocolate covered strawberries were to die for. Each meal in the package was accompanied by a delectable bottle of Texas wine. Do visit the gift shop for souvenirs and unique gifts! It is all well worth it! Don & Debbie have obviously put a lot of love and care toward creating a very special experience for all of their guests. We hope that we will be able to make it back for our first anniversary & have already been spreading the word to all of our friends and family. These are memories that will last us a lifetime and we are forever grateful to the Morelocks for this!

Our stay in the Oak Cottage was better than i could have imagined! It was so peaceful and relaxing. We felt very secluded and enjoyed the tranquil surroundings. We woke up to the sounds of the birds outside our cottage and really enjoyed the daily visits from the miniature donkeys and cats. The breakfast was delicious. We were like little kids waiting in anticipation to see what would come out of the basket.... Don and Deb were very hospitable and made our stay one we'll not soon forget. I loved the whimsy of the nature trail and the little touches throughout the property. We will definately be returning...........

we heard of star of texas when it was featured in yahoo. my husband and i recently got married and we are both new nurses in our unit. we saved money to pay for our wedding but we won't be able to go on a lavish honeymoon because of work and school so we decided to book with star of texas and we stayed at willowbend. it is a nice refreshing atmosphere...a true gem. love the nature trail and the delicious hot breakfast. i recommend getting their texas wine trail package or the spa package. we got the spa package only at this time but when we come next visit we want to get the texas wine trail package. you can't go wrong with this bed and breakfast...if you are looking for peace, seclusion, and relaxation to get away from the city life then this is the place. I do recommend that you bring some snacks since going to town is like five miles away. I live in San Antonio and everything is so close by so if you are not used to having everything not close by and want to save on gas then bring something microwavable to snack on or fruits and chips. We thought we would be going out sight seeing but this place is so peaceful and beautiful that we stayed most of our time at the nature trail, reading by the koi pond, and having a moonlight dinner at our porch

We enjoyed our stay so much that added a third night. We did the wine package and were very pleased with everything. We also took the canoe out on the Pecan Bayou with our picnic lunch. The nature trail was a great time. We will definitely go back again. The food served was better than any restaurant. Recommend it for everyone!!

Not only did my boyfriend and I enjoy the bed & breakfast, we loved the location of it. Brownwood, Texas does "Feel Like Home" and was a very peaceful place. I can't wait for a chance to come stay again and hopefully this time longer than just a weekend. We stayed in the Cottonwood and Room 55 and had so much fun in both. I think our favorite thing was the nature trail and I highly recommend walking the whole trail.

In our search for a place to elope to, Scott and I discovered a jewel...The Star of Texas!! Because we wanted a very quiet wedding with just the two of us, we thought it would be difficult to find the perfect place. We were wrong! The Star of Texas is the most relaxing, serene, and beautiful place to have a wedding. Don and Debbie made our marriage ceremony on January 1st quaint and memorable! They were perfect hosts and all the food was delicious! The Oak Cottage is comfortable and secluded - just perfect! We plan to visit again, not just to celebrate our 1st anniversary, but at other times of the year to enjoy the different seasons and see the beauty of the Star of Texas at other times of the year.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review, we love so much making people feel special, especially on their wedding day. It is our wonderful guest that keep us looking at how we do things and always trying to provide the best service with what we have to offer here at our b&b. Thanks again and look forward to you coming again.

What a wonderful, secluded spot in the heart of Texas! My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and could not have asked for a better place! The accommodations were excellent, and first quality and service was warm and friendly. There were many helpful recommendations for restaurants in downtown Brownwood, which is close by if a trip to see the local sites is in order. The Turtle Restaurant comes highly recommended. The gourmet breakfasts served daily at the Star of Texas were especially delicious. We have decided this is a favorite escape of ours for rest and relaxation. A must!

We came to stay at the Star of Texas B&B to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary on New Year's Eve. From the moment we stepped into the Willowbend cottage until we drug our bodies into the car to leave, we experienced a myriad of suprises and and gentle kindness. The owners have created a tranquil place of wonder and whimsy. From the friendly little kitty, Tex that kept watch over our cozy cottage, to the friendly, warm little donkeys, Riley and Rowdy that escorted us all the way along the nature trail, we felt blessed to spend time in such a special place. It was cold and we didn't get to see everything, but we will have plenty of time to explore this Spring when we return to enjoy the solitude and incredible breakfasts, prepared by Debbie and delivered right to our door by Don. The Star of Texas is the most incredible place created by loving and giving hands. We can hardly wait until our next visiit.

Thank you for your review. I do understand about a menu, we don't have a menu since we serve breakfast to your room. I always wait to see what I am going to serve by how many guest I am preparing for and if there have been any special diet needs come in. We are glad you did enjoy the food even with a little element of surprise. Thanks Deb

This place is so much more than we expected! We stayed in the Tuscany Suite, which overlooks a beautiful koi pond. It is especially nice at night since everything is lit with twinkling white lights. It looks like something out of a fairy tale. Every little detail here is thought about down to the iron work for the stair railing. It was such a relaxing stay, we didn't want to leave our room to go into town for dinner, especially since we had ordered the wine and cheese special package with our room. Even my husband liked the wine, and he is normally a beer drinker:) While here, we had a chance to meet Don, one of the inn keepers, some very friendly cats, and their two miniature donkeys, who are so friendly you can feed them by hand. They particularly like having their chins and faces scratched! I was very sorry when we had to leave.

We had a wonderful stay! Everything was as described - the Oak Cottage was secluded, very clean, with great breakfasts. The host greeted us, showed us to our room, and then left us to be alone until he delivered breakfast the next morning - just what we wanted. It was a very quaint, romantic cottage. Plenty of room - an excellent shower - a large picture window with a good view, a nice private porch, and a path to an interesting nature trail. One of the resident cats always accompanied us on the trail! The room had a small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, CD player, lots of candles, books and magazines, a nice sized dining or work table.....everything was very comfortable and relaxing. The wine dinner at Brennan Vineyards in nearby Comanche (about a 45 minute drive) was superb. And a dinner at the Turtle Restaurant in downtown Brownwood (just a 10 minute drive) was also very good. We had a great time and I recommend Star of Texas highly!

Don & Debbie go out of their way to make this such a special place for everyone - no matter what the occasion.

We needed a last-minute quite night away after a busy Thanksgiving. Mark mentioned the Star of Texas from a previous weekend earlier in the year, and we checked to find the Spartan 55 available for Saturday night. I called and we were happy to be able to book a new adventure. We had stayed in the Oak Creek cabin before and loved it, but also looked forward to experiencing another space. We enjoyed a fire for the cold night and viewed the stars. The Spartan was really fun to stay in! Breakfast was fabulous again! We love this place and no doubt will return again in 2011. We left feeling recharged and I got my balance back just walking the trails. Thanks Star of Texas! We will be back - not soon enough!

My husband and I truly enjoyed our night at the Star of Texas B&B. Upon arrival we were greeted with the smiling face of the care taker, welcoming us. A cat even stopped by our room to say hello. The room itself was larger than I expected and had a chic country theme. I thoroughly loved relaxing in the jacuzzi tub, while sipping on wine from the local winery. However, the highlight was the nature trail. We were able to get incredibly close to some grazing white tailed deer. And there were two curious donkeys who came right up to us. Overall we got some amazing pictures. The atmosphere was beautiful and calming! I can't wait to go back and I would certainly recommend the Star of Texas B&B to anyone!

My wife and I stayed in the Tuscany Room for our first anniversary. We drove almost 3 hours to get to this peaceful and quite little peace of paradise. When we arrive we were greeted by the staff and we were shown to our cottage in the trees. We spent the first night staring at each other and listening to the birds and wind blowing in the trees. It was so relaxing. we were joined by tex the cat a nd nite nite when tex jumped into my wifes lap and tryedto stay warm in her coat. We awoke the next morning to strong coffee and a wonderful breakfast. We went down to a glorious massage. We decided to walk the nature trail and was meet by Rocky and Rowdy the donkeys. They escorted us part of the trail when they handed us over to white cat showing us the wine bottle and bowling bowl art work. We had fruit, cheese and wine waiting on us in the room when we returned. The jacuzzi bath was a relief after a mile walk on the trail. We were greeted with dinner that hit the spot at six o'clock. We realized we were the only guest that night so we went and sat in the hammock nexttoour cottage and watched the bright stars. Really romantic. My wife and I really enjoyed the next morning breakfast of french toast and sausage. Some of the best food we've had in a while . We loved the atmosphere and the fact that the staff leaves you alone and unlike most B&B's brings the breastfast to your cottage. We hated to leave. My wife and I talked like we were still dating without the interruption from kids. We laughed at old stuff we used to do together and the doves near our cotage laughed with us. I very enjoyable, relaxing, romantic, stress fre weekend. We will return. Thanks to the staff for our time in your little paradise.

My husband and I chose Star of Texas for our elopement and we couldn't be happier with our decision! What a glorious place! We stayed at the Wildrose cottage and it was just so cozy and exquisite! Don and Debbie made the day of the ceremony extra special and memorable. We also purchased the video package and Billy was really great! The nature trail is so nice and has a lot of art and special details along the way. Their pets also are as welcoming as Don and Debbie are! Star (one of the cats) escorted us the whole way on the nature trail and the miniature donkeys were very friendly and let us come right up to them and they enjoyed the pettings and attention :-) The breakfasts that Debbie prepares are out of this world! and the whole weekend was nothing less than perfect! We highly suggest the Turtle Restaurant in town - great food, wine and desserts! You will not be disappointed with the choice of staying at this bed and breakfast! What a wonderful, memorable and relaxing experience! We will go back for upcoming anniversaries in the years to come! Thanks so much, Don and Debbie!

My husband and I went to the Star of Texas B&B hoping everything would be perfect. We got everything we ever imagined, our ceremony was very romantic and just beautiful. Thank goodness we have a video of our ceremony. The pictures and video that was taken were absolutly amazing, I will never forget the day we got married thanks to the Morelock's and the wonderful pictures and video. A&B

Simply put, there is no better bed and breakfast in the southwest region. The views, the cool evening and morning breezes, the tranquil setting, the incredible food, and the ability to be at a bed and breakfast, yet really revel in the solitude...Don and Debbie provide a magic respite. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

We enjoyed the relaxation of the Wildrose Retreat. The breakfast was delicious. Loved the large jacuzzi tub and the private porch. We would highly recommend this B&B!

This was our second trip to this Bed and Breakfast. Our first trip was our wedding in August of 2009- it was AMAZING. We first stayed in the Willowbed- this room is OUTSTANDING- from sitting on the porch listening to the wind in the trees, to the jacuzzi tub. Deb and Don's attention to detail is wonderful. When it came time to plan for our one year anniversary, there was no duobt in our mind that we would go back to the Star of Texas. For our return trip to the Star of Texas, we chose the Tuscany Suite. It was great to eat breakfast on the balcony and then to sit out there in the evening and watch the elopement of another couple and watch the sunset was also amazing. As always the Picnic Basket and Cheesecake were wonderful and then the Breakfast is always a treat. My husband all ready wants to plan a trip back for the fall....

We really didn't know what to expect, but we were pleasantly suprise. They were warm and welcoming. Everything was perfect! It was realxing and enjoyable. The food wast terrific. We figured this was a one time stop. Now we are looking at our schedule to see when we can make it a destination. We will definately try to go back!!!

It had been such a long time since we stayed in a bed and breakfest sans TV, radio and basically no cell phone service. What a joyous, peaceful retreat. We actually talked to each other without interruptions and enjoyed the nature trails, the porch, the food and the wonderful peace and quiet. We are revitalized after 33 years of marriage. It was a perfect place to rekindle the old flame. Thank you for an an incredible two days of rest and relaxation.

When we arrived at the Wildrose, at Star of Texas, we were impressed with the distinctive quality of "romantic-us-time" that this particular cottage exuded.... The decor suggested a pleasant aura of relaxation and excitement (or that could of been our anticipation of our upcoming event).. never the less- the cottage was amazing. We enjoyed the nature trail, and the staff's ability to make sure you felt like taking care of you was their single attainment. A magnificent cuisine was encouraged-- we are traditionally meat and potato people, so it was a bit "new" to us, however the presentation was perfect, and the food was really a nice change, very good--- we will return again and again... one word to sum it up? PERFECT

This is our second stay at the Star of Texas Bed & Breakfast. It was as quiet and peaceful as I remembered. We love staying at the Tuscany Suite. You feel like you are in a "Tree House" with no cares in the world. This is a great place to go if you live in a big city and are in need of R & R. We will definitely be going back.

Thank you Don and Debbie!

My husband and I just stayed at the Star of Texas and it was just wonderful. Their property is BEAUTIFUL!!! The trail was great...all the neat things that they have made along the path made it like a treasure hunt. We stayed in the Willowbend cottage, and it was warm, and cozy. Our favorite thing was to just sit out on our porch and listen to the leaves, and look at the pond, and just forget all the stresses that we had at home. We really bonded together as a couple, just with the peace, and the privacy that we were given. The breakfasts were awesome. This was a time we will never forget, and we very much are planning to return. Thank you Don and Deb for a wonderful experience.

Stayed here for the weekend for our 10th anniversary. We were able to relax and enjoy nature and each other. Everything that we needed was provided in the room. We walked the nature trail about 4 times during the 2 1/2 days there. Enjoyed the art and the views and the wildlife. Also loved the jacuzzi tub in our room, very romantic.

I had the good fortune to stay at the Star of Texas B&B Ranch House for a month-long work assignment. In my experience, it was the best of accommodations. Its luxuriously peaceful private setting in the beautiful Central Texas Hill Country was therapeutic after the days work. I looked forward to sitting on the screened-in porch and looking out at the pond at the end of the day. The abundant wildlife and birdsong chorus were refreshing and revitalizing. More importantly, Don and Debbie were friendly and attentive, and went above and beyond the call of duty to make my stay both comfortable and enjoyable. I knew I was in good hands with them. The Ranch House was clean with all the comforts of home, including cushioned mattresses, large screen TV and phone. The resident donkeys, Tony and Sparky, were sweet and kept me company without being a bother. When I didn't cook in the fully equipped kitchen, I found fine eateries in town, along with plenty of shopping sites for sundries. There seemed to be no end of festivals and events in the areas nearby and wineries to explore, too. Hiking, biking and water sports at the nearby Brownwood Lake added to my pleasure with staying there. The B & B also has a wonderful hiking path with unique and delightful outdoor art displays, created by Don. Their other B & B cottages and accommodations with their creative styles were enticing as well. When my husband came to visit he was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the Ranch House was and wished he could have stayed longer. Of course with all the peace and enjoyment to be had there, I didn't want to leave either, and would go back in a heartbeat for either work, vacation or anniversary celebrations. I highly recommend The Star of Texas B&B to all. Sincerely, Dr. Rahnea Sunseri

We first visited the Star of Texas a couple of months ago to look it over and meet the hosts since we were planning our wedding for this location. We stayed in the tipi that trip and loved it and were more than convinced it would be perfect for our elopement. It was! Our wedding consisted of the chaplain, Don, also the host of the B&B - Debbie, his wife and co-host taking photos - and my husband and me. We were married by the fish pond with soft music playing as background to the sounds of the waterfall, birds and various chirping insects. A soft breeze was blowing and the scent of some of their many herbs was in the air. Since this was not our first wedding and because we wanted minimum stress, the location and the whole experience could not have been better. Don and Debbie walk the line between attentive hosts and invisibility most of the time. Though there were other people at the B&B, they have laid out the cottages in such a way you rarely see anyone but cats and the donkeys - Rowdy and Riley. We will return on anniversaries and other times when we just want to feel we've had a week's vacation but only have a weekend to spare. If you want to step away from life's busy-ness and take time for yourself and your beloved - or get away with some friends - this is the place!

We had been searching for a very special place to elope and found Star of Texas online. Without knowing anyone who had gone there, we liked what we saw online and made our reservations. That was the best choice we ever made. Not only was it affordable, but EVERYTHING was perfect. Debbie and Don are two of the warmest most caring people you will meet. Their attention to detail is astounding. We booked the cottonwood room which has some amazing artwork with a relaxed and simplistic feel. The large front porch overlooks the pond. It was like you're in the middle of the country, but at home. The wedding ceremony was absolutely amazing, we had very little to worry about as everything else was taken care of. Debbie mailed the picture CD the morning we left and it arrived in just a few days. One of my favorite memories besides the wedding was sitting in the hot tub and just gazing like a kid at the stars, those stars you never see in the city. The worst thing about the trip was we only booked one night! If we were smart we would've stayed many more nights. They have an amazing knack for taking care of every need but not being overbearing. The wildlife, peace, and quiet is indescribable, you need to go visit for yourselves and see the true treasure that Star of Texas is. Before we even left we were planning our trip again for next year!

By the time you reach the end of the drive along the tree-lined road to the Star of Texas, you are convinced you are deep in the country even though you're just a few miles outside of Brownwood. The individual cabins enhance the feeling, and you are free to enjoy each other as well as the sounds of silence.

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend; we did this as a marriage retreat as we watched a DVD of Focus on the Family Simulcast “Focus On Marriage. Your B&B provided the perfect setting for us to spend time together without the busyness of everyday life. We love sitting on the porch or walking the nature trail after listing to each guest speaker. It was time where we could focus on each other and talk about the message. It is absolutely wonderful to live in a country where we are free to worship God, focus on marriage and spend time with the love of your life at a Beautiful B&B. As I begin my military training for deployment in 2011 these are some of the freedoms I fight to preserve. Best wishes to you and all who stay here may God Bless you all.

My husband and I purchased the "ultimate elopement package" at this b&b. We could not have been more pleased with everything there. The wedding was beautiful and intimate...just what we had in mind. The food was outstanding and the simple beauty and peacefulness of this property made our entire weekend perfectly wonderful. We made some great memories here of our first days as a married couple. We will definitely return and we have told all our family and friends to visit the Star of Texas B&B.

We spent our first anniversary at the Star of Texas and truly loved the experience. We were in the Oak Cottage. Breakfast both mornings was gourmet and not too heavy. Enjoyed the hot tub and the fire ring. The nature trail was a treat with Star as our "guide". Liked all the whimsical/creative/rustic decor around the property. Especially enjoyed all the critters, as we are animal people. Wish we could have stayed another day. The only small criticism is that the bed was advertised as a queen (my husband is 6'8") but we managed. It was very comfortable. Thanks for a great stay!

We'd already booked a weekend elopement when we decided to go stay in the tipi and see the B&B for ourselves. The Web site is good, but reality surpassed our expectations! A traditional B&B with all the fanciness just didn't appeal to us, but here, in their various cottages, a vintage trailer and a tipi - you can choose the venue that fits best. We loved the tipi and would do it again, but when we return for our elopement, we'll stay at the Wildrose Retreat. The grounds are magnificent - it's a magical place and we look forward to returning again and again!

We were childhood sweethearts that got back together after being apart for 30 years. We were looking for a special place to get married. So I started Googling to see what type of marriage packages were out there. Then I found the Star of Texas website. I was impressed with the website and blown away that they had a tipi on the grounds. The Elopement For Two package was perfect! We love camping and have camped at some of the most beautiful places on earth but the opportunity to be married at the Dancing Buffalo Lodge Tipi was a dream come true. It was like luxury camping. Not only was it beautiful but the peace and quiet were unparalleled. Don was a gracious host and the perfect person to perform the ceremony. The beautiful Hill Country setting was amazing! It was the most romantic weekend we have ever had. We plan on coming back every year for our anniversary! Oh yeah...we were the first couple to be married at the tipi. Perfection!

This place is great to disconnect form the stress of everyday life. Don and Debbie are the best hosts ever! Very friendly and nice but they give you your space to roam around the property when ever pleases you. We stayed at The WildRose retreat. Very nicely decorated and had a very romantic ambience. No tv, no phones :-). The food was excellent,Debbie is a great cook. I would highly recommend this place for a romantic getaway. Enjoy!!! B & C

Very nice and clean, lots of trees. Daon was very nice, did not meet Debbie. I think that what they served as a drink was apple juice, was the best I have ever tasted. We do not eat breakfast so we passed on the 2nd day breakfast. The donkeys and the cats were the best, they came by for their petting, will take some carrots next time. We do not go much but if we go to that area we will stay with the Morelock's

I stayed two nights with my boyfriend in the Willowbend room. When we arrived we were really excited because the setting is beautiful, and it was obvious that the owners had put a ton of effort into making the place perfect. Even the nature trail, which we walked the first evening we were there, is full of adorable surprises along the way, including two miniature donkeys. Had we left after the first night, this review would be glowing. The next day, however, things got a little awkward. We had visited the gift shop that first evening and noticed they sold bubble bath. I inquired whether they are safe for the jacuzzi tub in the room, and Deb said just to use a little. When we returned to buy it later, it had been entirely removed from the shop. We bought bath salt instead, and then discovered that there was no longer hot water to our room. We did not have hot water for the remainder of our stay (although it did reach lukewarm.) Our breakfast was brought in the first morning and was beautiful and delicious. However, our dishes remained in the room until breakfast was served the next day. Our room was never refreshed, and our request for clean utensils and towels was ignored. Don was courteous when he brought our breakfast the second morning, but by that point, we were just ready to go home and take a shower.
Thank you for your review, I apologize on the bubble bath, after you asked about them,I went in to check them and found that they had all been leaking and removed them from the shop, those were the last ones we had. We normally service rooms when our guest are gone to town as not to disturb them, after waiting most of the day we realized you all were not leaving and decided to wait till the following morning. We do hope you come again and we will do a much better job of serving you. Thanks deb

My boyfriend and I went here for a 4 day, 3 nights as part of our Texas vacation. It was amazing. The room was beautiful! I loved the stone floors (they do get a little cold, so bring some slippers!) and the bathroom was amazing! The whirlpool tub was excellent and it came with little candles already around it! The bathroom also contained a little kitchenette, with a microwave and mini-fridge which was very convenient! We also had a tv with cable. The environment was truly relaxing. We went on the little trail on the property which was gorgeous and filled with cute little surprises! (Highly recommended) We met the newest animal residents, Riley and Rowdy (miniature donkeys) which were sooo cute! We visited them every day and fed them a little hay. We sat on a little table and chairs they had set up next to a little pond in front of our room for a drink. We didn't get hot breakfast every morning (we had a great continental breakfast though!), due to the fact that Debbie and Don were being videotaped for the Travel Channel but our last morning there we did get an amazing hot breakfast from her which was delicious! The only thing of a little sadness was that the internet didn't work and both of us being students (and I also work full time in Finance), it was a little tricky to work around (thank God for the iPhone!). But that definitely wouldn't take away anything from this. It was a great place and would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to enjoy time away from the hustle and bustle.

This is a wonderful getaway located just out of town and a mile off the paved road. Pictures on the website do NOT do this place justice! Must see to believe. Lots of wildlife and SILENCE! Many "extras" (e.g., free bottle of wine, complimentary candles, 24-hour snack bar, etc.,) thanks to your hosts' attention to detail. Hot breakfast delivered to your room! The answer to every question was "Yes!" We are sure to return for another stay soon!

Where can you hang out in a REAL TiPi, have a drink by a fire, and still feel treated special? No place in the world! This place IS SPECIAL! The in-keepers are kind, the tipi is clean and comfortable. We brought our own camp chairs but you can do without. The breakfast was very good. You can wander the property and enjoy the peace. The experience was rustic but within reason. It was cool! We can't wait to return to try out the other cottages.

We have stayed at many bed & breakfasts in Texas and this is one of the nicest. The Oak Cottage was quaint with a beautiful view out the over-sized front windows. The nature trail was a wonderful hike in the woods with little surprises around every corner. We enjoyed the hot tub & Deb's food was amazing! Don't waste your time or money on the Turtle Restaurant though. The quality of food was very poor, especially for the price.

This place is out in the middle of nowhere but you would never know it! The owners make it such a peaceful place to visit. The Spartan was so vintage that we had a great time on a Girls Getaway Weekend staying in the trailer! The best part is the llama who greets you along the walking trail! His name is Biscuit! They provide a very cool walking trail with many types of art motif along the way. You never know what art motif you will stumble upon next! Great place to venture too one weekend and enjoy your time away from the daily stress of life!

When you visit here you get to tuck yourself away in your own private paradise. We recommend it to everyone that we know. It is a must for the married couple due to the emphasis on strengthening your marriage with each other and spiritually. We love this place!

This was our first visit to Star of Texas and we absolutely loved it! The Tuscany Room was beautiful, and the weather so nice we slept with the door open high up in the trees. The food was superb and Don and Debbie were great. It was a full house, but we felt so secluded. Let me suggest the Romance Package to anyone wanting to make your stay that much more special. We will certainly be back, and bring friends. We have already shared the experience with others and they are looking forward to heading to Brownwood as well!

Our wedding was beautiful and everything we had wanted. The room was so relaxing for our first night as husband and wife. Just what we needed before we left for our honeymoon. The food was great!! Such an amazing and romantic place.

We were immediately greeted by Debbie who helped us with our bags and showed us to the cabin. She made us feel very special and welcomed. My now husband and I stayed in the Oak Cottage and was please with the cleanliness of the room. The cabin was so comfortable that were hardly left the room and napped most of the weekend. Isn't that what vacations are for? :) We had our elopement ceremony on the grounds and were moved by Chaplain Don's choice of words for the ceremony. The attention to detail they spent to ensure that our wedding day was special was invaluable. They took all the stress away from planning. The only things we had to remember was the marriage license and dress. We left everything else up to them. It was more that I expected. Debbie & Don -- Thank you so much for making our special day so incredible!

Our experience with Star of Texas left us very impressed and grateful, so this is our zealous recommendation! Hidden away in the hushed West Central Texas woods, this excellent bed & breakfast is at once rustic and luxurious. We can attest that it is the ideal retreat for romantic and/or spiritual ends, having undertaken our private wedding ceremony there. Expect exquisite serenity (a little babbling fish pond, even), lovely intimacy with nature, impeccable cleanliness and quality in the accommodations, fabulous food and a fine spirit of hospitality in the gentle proprietors at Star of Texas. Be assured that a renewal (or inauguration!) of wedding vows with these folks will be perfect magic, whether you are of a particular religion or not; respect and a most cordial spirit certainly abounded in ours. My wife and I celebrated our 5th anniversary by spending a long weekend - we split between two rooms, the Oak Cottage and the Wildrose - both were wonderful, the Oak Cottage is isolated enough to allow for all the privacy desired, peaceful and rustic. The nature trail was nice to visit and the resident llama and cats were very gracious hosts (as were Don and Deb!). We had a great time and are planning on returning in the future - highly recommend this for a relaxing getaway. The food was amazing too!

41 years ago we spent our honeymoon in a trailer something like this, so it was a walk down memory lane. The 50'sdecor were superb. The bed was so comfy, peace & quiet was a welcome relief from a hectic lifestyle. Breakfast could have been better.

We stayed in Room 55 as a long needed weekend getaway. Our time their was outstanding. The decor of the room was cool with it's 50's styling. It felt like we stepped back in time. The breakfasts were delicious and really hit the spot. The nature hike was a great activity and we really enjoyed the artwork along the path. It was really fun being neighbors with biscuit. Had a great time. We will be heading back there sometime soon. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great getaway

Walking into the 1955 Spartan trailer brought back many wonderful childhood memories. Everything was perfect from the exterior patio to the vintage 1950s interior decor including books and magazines from that time. The whole area there at Star of Texas is wonderful. The ponds, the doves, the wildlife, the wonderful buildings, the wildlife trails were all a lovely experience.

It was the most romantic and intimate ceremony, in my opinion this is definitely the way to get married. The innkeepers Don and Debbie catered to our every need and made our special event unforgettable. The breakfasts were prepared and presented to perfection. I absolutely loved my stay at Star of Texas. The hospitality was exceptional without being overbearing, the property was gorgeous and well maintained. Every detail was thought of from providing candles and lighters in the room to having insect repellent for walking the trails. My husband and I stayed here in April 2009. This was our second visit to Star of Texas and we enjoyed it as much, if not more, than our first. Our first visit was for part of our honeymoon trip in 2006. Both rooms we stayed in were great, with wonderful attention to detail. The jacuzzi bathtubs are a nice treat and very relaxing. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated without being overdone. This visit we had time to walk the 1 mile hiking trail. It was very nice, especially with all the pieces of artwork along the way. Perhaps the best part was the delicious breakfasts! One morning was wonderful pancakes, the next was a delicious quiche. If you're looking for a nice weekend (or longer) getaway, definitely try Star of Texas.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Oak Cottage while attending a conference at the nearby 4-H Center because we wanted something more restful and with more character than a motel room. We were extremely pleased with our choice. A rustic yet elegant cottage, a comfortable bed, a beautiful stone shower, big fluffy towels, a hot tub and the superb breakfasts have made us fans. Debbie and Don, the innkeepers, do an incredible job. Both my friend and I can't wait to return with our husbands for a romantic weekend. Five star!! Aimee

My husband and I visited the Star of Texas for a little getaway. We stayed in the Tuscany Suite and felt a like we were far from home. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The room was great and romantic. We enjoyed the little touches like the provision of a CD player with relaxing music and some nice reading materials. We ordered supper and although the food was good it was a little expensive for what we received. The complimentary wine glasses were a nice touch. We were a little uncomfortable due to the memory foam style mattress, but if you are used to that I'm sure you would enjoy it. Breakfast was very good. We hope to go again soon and will definately recommend it to friends.

Star of Texas is the definition of a romantic getaway. The staff/owners were very friendly and gracious. The pastoral setting was uniquely created for this place of rest, romance and rejuvination. The wooded trail is only topped by the "guides" that may escort you through this authentic Texas woodland - an affectionate llama and a cat! Don & Debbie, The stay was so relaxing and refreshing. However, Don your cleric advise on our son-in-law was so very helpful. Since we got home things have been alot less tense. We now understand more of what he says and not just the words that are coming out. Debbie, your cooking was just wonderful - I (jdf) would love to be able to cook like you. My husband will be analizing your recipes for months. We truly enjoyed having Biscuit and Star following us on our nature hike. Overall, the experience was one we will never forget and we look forward to staying with y'all again. Thank y'all so much from your friends in San Marcos.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a weekend getaway (8/15-8/17). We often visit B&B's for escapes from the hectic day to day life. Our stay here was one of the most relaxing & impressive B&B's we have stayed at in quite sometime. The atmosphere was very relaxing with alot of country charm (we stayed in the Oak cabin very secluded), the host was very accomadating & friendly, all the cabins were absolutly pristine. The breakfast was absolutly the best we have ever had served, yes served in our cabin at 9:00 am each morning. Thanks so much to our hosts Don & Debbie and all the critters (dog & llama) for a wonderful weekend.

To stay here at Star of Texas cannot even compare to any hotel in the area!! It is so secluded, quiet, absolutely beautiful!! It is serene, and so cozy and beyond beautiful!! It is amazing from the very small , winding, one car gravel road (covered in trees) to the arrival of the cabin area. The garden area is so beautiful with it's koi pond, doves, cats, things to look at...the nature trail is so amazing too, since Biscuit the Llama goes with you on the trail....it is heaven!! The food is beyond description!! You must visit!!!

What a terrific place. It's amazing what a country gravel road will lead you to. This was the best atay anywhere. This was better than my own house.

Peace, quiet, and seclusion in a delightful rural, wooded setting yet close to amenities in Brownwood and the lake; Star of Texas is a perfect artist's or writer's retreat.

Very nice room! The area was very quiet & peaceful.
5 on July 23, 2008
From the moment we arrived at the Star of Texas we knew we were in for a treat. Everything was more than we expected. The room was super clean, the landscape took our breath away, the jacuzzi for 2 was big enough for 4, and the breakfasts had the dining conversations down to an "mmmmmm". Everything at the Star of Texas makes it a true "shining star"! The most wonderful thing about this B&B is the owners. They were so welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and relaxed! My husband and I will be back soon!

As a first trip to a B&B, it was a wonderful experience. The only thing I am concerned with is that all others will fall short.

My husband & I spent one night in the Willowbend cottage 6/21/08 and it was WONDERFUL! I booked the room strictly from the website & I will say the website did NOT do it justice! We have stayed in several B & B's and this one is now our FAVORITE! We especially enjoyed the hiking trail. In fact, we walked it twice. Biscuit, the llama is awesome on the trail. We also enjoyed a visit from Star (cat) & Emi (dog), which was fun. Breakfast was very tasty & we enjoyed having it "hand" delivered to our room. If you are looking for a getaway that will allow you to forget your troubles, this is it! It is so peaceful. The innkeepers are wonderful people. They are onsite, but give you 100% privacy if that is what you want. We cannot wait to go back! Also, we had dinner at the Turtle & it was the best! Excellent food & reasonable prices. My husband said it was the best Italian food this side of Milan! He has spent time in Italy & said this was the closest he has found to true Italian food. The seafood chimachangas are a must for your appetizer! Enjoy your trip, you won't regret it.

My husband and I found the Star of Texas Bed and Breakfast online and made reservations. It looked perfect, but I had never been to a bed and breakfast so I didn't really know what to expect. When we got there the room, the Willowbend, was not only cozy, but very clean and well provided for. I absolutely love the tub, and really enjoyed the stay. We are definitely on a budget as newlyweds, but the Star of Texas was right in our price range. It felt a lot more expensive that it was, really. Aside from the rooms and the good food, the wildlife is amazing! There is a llama named Biscuit that likes to make friends with customers that we just loved. All in all very worth the time money and drive out there.

Don and Debbie Morelock have provided a wonderful sanctuary out in the country. Each room is unique, comfortable and beautifully decorated. Debbie prepares a delicious breakfast that is delivered to your room each morning.

We found a treasure with Don and Debbie's Star of Texas in Brownwood. The best alarm clock in the world is Don knocking on your door carrying one of Debbie's breakfasts. The nature trail with wonderful art feeds your soul. And Bisquit the llama is adorable - big friendly eyes and sweet smile. The jacuzi for 2 melts away ALL the stress. We'll be back.

I booked this B&B last minute for my husband's birthday, and it was wonderful. The inkeeper left chocolate covered strawberries in our room as a surprise when we arrived because of the special occasion. They invited us to use any of the activities on property including the nature walk (one mile easy walk unexpectedly escorted by their llama named Biscuit). They have a number of lovely rooms including a teepee, but we enjoyed our nicely sized room with jetted tub, candles, CDs and videos for our use. We also chose to add the canoeing package, which was so relaxing and convenient. They put the canoe in the water, tell you a good direction to head on the river and leave you to paddle as long as you like. Breakfast was deliciously fresh, and their recommendation for dinner places in town were perfect for our special occasion. I highly recommend making the drive for this lovely B&B. We drove 2.5 hours and it was worth it!

My husband and I just had our first experience at a Bed & Breakfast. And we are both hooked on Star-of-Texas. Everything about our stay could have not been better, the food is absolutely out of this world. The service is way better than any high end hotel. It is so very peaceful and the wildlife is spectacular in itself. We are already planning on when we can stay at Star-of-Texas again.

Don and Debbie are very friendly and helpful. We loved all of the animals. The nature walk was beautiful and it was great to see some of Don's artwork along the trail. We also loved the ping pong table. The Wildrose was a great room and the jacuzzi tub was wonderful. The breakfast was original and very tasty. We are already planning our next trip

The kitten and Biscuit, as well as the “Art Walk” make this B&B very special. Biscuit is a llama that accompanies one on walks!

Star of Texas is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed at. The rooms are unbelievable. The B&B is the perfect getaway from hectic life. We have come for our honeymoon and all four anniversaries. This year we even chose to come during the year once rather than take a chance somewhere else. Food is the BEST!!! It is peaceful and quiet.
5 on January 24, 2008
Beautiful grounds, even in the dead of winter! Each bungalow was built by the innkeeper, and you can tell he understands homey yet sublime spaces. Breakfasts were some of the best I've ever had at a B&B - small and artful!

What a pleasure! A wonderfully clean room, tastefully decorated, with books and excellent music choices. The two-person Jacuzzi tub is to die for. What a great 27-year anniversary gift we gave ourselves!

This B & B has it all.. Beautiful cozy rooms.. breath taking scenery, delicious food and crickets! Yes crickets! When you live in a big city and you want to get away from it all this is the perfect place! All you can hear at night is crickets! Gorgeous view of the southern sky!

My wife and I went for one night and had a delightful time. The food was delicious, Don pretty much just left us by ourselves, and most of all, the property was simply beautiful. It is a secluded area with a beautiful little hillside you can hike on (with a friendly llama we were told; he didn't come out to see us, but it may have been too cold and wet and he was just smarter than us and didn't feel like coming out in the weather!). Both Don and Debbie are artists and the rooms and the property are just sprinkled with unique works, some of which are quite lovely. The entire experience is exactly what you would want from a B&B: relaxing, private, different, refreshing, and fun.

Thank you for staying with us, I see you were not pleased with the breakfast. Please let me know what it was that we served or when you stayed and help me to improve on that. It is very important to me that my guest only get the best and enjoy each part of their stay. thanks Debbie

As soon as you arrive, it is obvious the magnitude of work that has gone into creating the right atmosphere for a restful stay. Very relaing and laid back with plenty to look at, with the hiking trail and the abundance of what nature has to offer.

An unexpected pleasure. a little hard to find- our GPS did well.

The room was beautiful and peaceful, but not near as peaceful as the landscape and surrounding land that the Morelocks own. They have created a beautiful bed and breakfast in and outside the rooms, so that you can experience nature. They are hospitable people, willing to stop and chat and help in any way they can.

We found this B&B on the website for Brennen Winery we we told it was pretty far a way but it was worth the extra drive. We had our wine dinner in Comanche on Friday August 10th then spent a peaceful night and great Saturday in total quiet. The trail on the property was fun. We had the spa package which was very relaxing the massage therapist was absolutely great. We will definitely return.

If you are looking for a get away from the daily stress of life or you want to find that romance that has been MIA, the Star of Texas B&B awaits you. On the other hand, if you cannot live without television you will probably want to look elsewhere. The Star of Texas is without a doubt one of the best B&B experiences we have enjoyed. It is definitely a secluded location that offers peace and quiet and is perfect for the couple that is seeking a romantic yet somewhat adventurous hideaway. There is a nature path and you may even be followed by Biscuit the llama. There is also a tipi should you want something a little more out of the ordinary for lodging. We stayed in the Oak Cottage and the room was clean, bed was comfortable, the overall decor, rustic. There is a CD player with some CDs available or you can bring your own, and if you have a laptop or portable DVD player, the external CD speakers will conveniently hook into either for watching a movie with better sound. There is a coffee maker and a couple of games included in the room as well. There is a Jacuzzi just a few feet from the Oak Cottage but the other cottages actually have them inside I believe. The owners, Don and Debbie Morelock are a very nice couple and Don is a chaplain who performs weddings and vow renewals on site. We had our vows renewed for our 25th while we stayed here and it was very tastefully done with photos on CD, flowers, etc. The Star of Texas is about a mile off of the main highway on Morelock Lane, there is no signage for the B&B on the highway. Morelock Lane is a true single vehicle country road but it will take you to paradise, just take it slow. One of the things we will do when we go back is to bring a cooler with sandwich makings, water, etc. as you will want to spend as much time here as possible instead of traveling to town. This is the country so you may want to bring some mosquito repellent as well. You owe it to yourself to give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

We stayed at the Star of Texas for our 1st wedding anniversary. It was amazing! Not only are the cottages private, relaxing and homey but the surrounding property is so peaceful and surreal. We hiked the art path which the Morelock's have personally created with several of the acres of land, meeting biscuit along the way, their llama. Each morning a delicious breakfast is delivered to your door. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful. It truly is a little piece of heaven! Side note: There is a fruit stand shortly before town, the best produce I have ever found, we even stopped on our way home!
