Prospect Hill Bed & Breakfast
-
The building may be a shingle style Victorian from 1889 but inside its all classic relaxation with all the benefits of today's world: well-equipped private baths (many with whirlpool tubs), TVs, wifi, heat/air and great beds.
When it's time to getaway...when it's time to relax...our whirlpool tubs are all sized for the two of you. Pictured in the extra-deluxe bathroom in Rose/Romance Room #2. ALL our guest rooms include candles, snacks, robes for your use, TV, free wireless, a phone line, central heat and air with individual controls and really great privacy and probably the largest guest rooms in the region where NC, VA and Tennessee come together.
Room 1 - Mountain Sunrise Room - features historic red stained glass, a new, modern walnut headboard, new fresh and relaxing paint with pale blue ceiling and a private entrance with a porch swing right outside. Forge Mountain views.
Room 4 - Hideaway bath with large whirlpool but for two, candle ledge, stunning bead board, not to mention the more contemporary feel to this room, its large fireplace and private back-of-the-house location with garden view.
Our wedding garden has mountain views of 3200 ft.elev. Forge Mountain (shown) as well as Rainbow Mountain. While here, be sure to enjoy the garden. (Weddings are NOT mixed with getaway guests in most cases.)
Room 2/rose romance offers a three state-view, a two story unit (private stairs to a luxury bath), historic stained class and more. Often chosen by couples celebrating their honeymoon or anniversary.
Mountain Sunrise/Room 1 includes this porch swing right outside the room's private entrance. Grab some tea from our 24/7 beverage center, your favorite book or tablet and enjoy your time at the inn--on mountain time.
Prospect Hill (original name) is an 1889 Shingle style Victorian which commands a hill on the outskirts of 1950s styled Mountain City, on the western Appalachian slopes and valleys of NE Tennessee. Beautiful setting with a great, convenient location near Boone, NC and Abingdon, VA.
Viewed from the inn about 6:30 a.m..... Tennessee's first sunrise over Forge Mountain. Stunning.
A few miles from the inn we offer A Cottage in the Woods-our 3 bedroom & 2 bath house on 30 acres just minute from the Virginia Creeper Trail with hiking on the property. (Not adjacent to the B&B inn.) Kids and dogs welcome. The cottage is a full size, 1300 sq.ft. house with full kitchen, including microwave, two modern baths, sizable living room/dining combo, deck and all that wonderful nature just outside the door. Sleeps up to 7. All linens, dishes, everything you need provided. Bring your food. Great activities just a short drive away. $149/night. Two night min. required.
The western side of this 1889 house-turned-inn shines as it welcomes arriving guests.
On the left is our Stickley (reproduction) and 1911 Craftsman dining furniture plus historic yellow window glass. On right is a Stickley (1996) sofa) and parlor with bay window.
In the Heart of the Mountains ~~ Prospect Hill is on the western Appalachian slope with ridges in every direction. Photo shows first mowing of spring.
All our inn's rooms are wonderful. This is Room 3/In the Garden, our least expensive: large, has a loveseat for snuggling, a private bath with shower (not tub), electric fireplace, nice afternoon light and the architectural bed (shown). priced from $109.

3.6 out of 5Wonderful weekend getaway!
May 04, 2013
The view was beautiful from our room. We enjoyed staying there, the bed was comfortable, and plenty of solitude and relaxation. I wish we could have stayed one more day. The breakfasts were delightful but we were still a little hungry after. The chef style professional breakfast was delicious, but a little extra toast and jelly would have been a nice extra too. Great conversations, nice atmosphere, and I would go back again.
5 out of 5Outrageously Well Satisfied with Prospect Hill
April 22, 2013
Could not have been more staisfied with our recent stay at Prospect Hill B&B in Mountain City, located in the extreme northeast corner of Tennessee. Was outrageously well satisfied. Best part was the friendly, well-informed and most helpful hosts Robert and Judy. Robert's time as an officer aboard a U S Navy nuclear sub is evident as every inch of this spacious place is put to good use. Judy displayed an encyclopaedic knowledge of the area with thorough answers to all questions. If you like Victorian architecture and seeing the result of a well-done effort to bring and 1889 structure into the 21st century, you'll truly love this place.

February 05, 2013
My husband and I stayed at Prospect Hill for our honeymoon, and we could not have asked for a better experience. This was easily the best B&B that I have stayed in--the rooms were spacious and clean, the decorations beautiful (and not cluttered!), the service impeccable. I absolutely fell in love with the room we stayed in, and have already made plans to return.

3.6 out of 5Very Enjoyable Stay
June 23, 2012
They've done an amazing job restoring this house. Immediate surroundings are fairly developed and unpicturesque, but mountain setting just beyond is beautiful.
Innkeeper Response
We were interested to learn that this guest was not happy with our edge-of-the-small town location. The inn is located on three acres with no full-time neighbors for quite some distance. Yes, the town is "quite developed" considering it is a town of 2,000. While the guest did not express anything specific concerning our breakfast (or perhaps they didn't care for local lunch and dinner choices) or elaborate on other items in the review, we will continue to strive for excellence with constant redecorating, renovation, innovation, service and good old fashioned hard work. We work for 5 stars and complete satisfaction for every guest every stay.4.6 out of 5Loved Cottage in the Woods
June 23, 2012
Lovely cabin nestled on a ridge and surrounded by trees. Very quiet with cool evenings and mild days for early summer. Everything you need is provided except food. Location central to hiking and biking trails and browsing nearby towns such as Damascus, VA and Mountain City. Our visit let us visit a cousin up in Virginia and let my son and myself walk in 7 generations of my family's footsteps. If you are a small family or just a couple, this is ideal for you, even to just stay and relax. Thank you Judy, for your beautiful and gracious hospitality!
Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much. As to dining, there are two very fine restaurants in Mountain City: Tributary and Suba's and this season, the Old Mill in Damascus, Va is open. We hope you were able to try one or more of these (about 7 miles from the cottage). Our area does not have the food version of a "big box store." We do caution that Sunday and Monday nights as in many small towns--it may be the chef's night off so choices are limited. You may need to cook on your own in the cottage's equipped kitchen. Be sure to ask us about the restaurants' schedules the next time you book. We'll do our best to steer you to the best available.5 out of 5Delightful!

We recently enjoyed a wonderful night away at the Prospect Hill Bed and Breakfast. The charm and history of this elegant home is amazing. Character at every turn. The innkeepers have done a marvelous job at restoring this home. The breakfast was the best I have ever had. But the best part was getting to know Judy and Robert and talking with them. We will definitely come back again.
Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much for the kind words. We are delighted to make your stay memorable while sharing an interesting historic home with guests. Come back soon.
