Furniture and décor is a delightfully eclectic mix of old and new – items collected over the course of several years by Maura Phillips, a self-proclaimed treasure hunter. She haunted antique shops, estate sales, junk stores and flea markets for paintings, dishes, chairs and rugs. So much, that sister/decorator Margo Estrada of Branford, CT never dreamed she would have access to the enormous amount of unusual items that they would later place in each room to give it its own personality. Hours were spent moving furniture, selecting light fixtures from Phillips’s collection of antique chandeliers, and working with the upholsterer and seamstress on furniture, curtains, duvet covers and dust ruffles.
Private Balcony Rooms offer walkout balconies and gas fireplaces. The over-sized rooms show off antique chandeliers and vibrantly colored décor. Baths have original claw-foot tubs, French showers and separate water closets. Weekday rate includes continental breakfast Weekend rates include a gourmet breakfast and wine and cheese reception on Saturday.
Somehow you feel transported to another place and time when you step inside the inn, and there’s a sense of romance that seems to please all who stay here. It’s a major achievement for decorator Margo Estrada of Branford, Connecticut, who worked with Maura Phillips on the project for nearly two years.
During the restoration of the original Colonial Hotel in the late 90’s, Maura and Harry Phillips strategically redesigned the first floor of the facility specifically for the entertainment of our guests and friends, and special events closely connected with our discerning guests. A bond was quickly formed between the Phillips and Chef Nathan Winowich which assisted to further define luxury accommodations and fine dining. A stay at the StoneFort is enhanced with dinner at Nathan’s just as dinner at Nathan’s is further enhanced while staying at the StoneFort. We will continue to raise the quality of our services and highlight what sets us apart as upscale, charming and refined.

When Jane Seymour stayed at the StoneFort Inn while in Chattanooga recently to launch her home décor line at Profitts, here first words were, “Oh, how cool is this!” We take that as the ultimate compliment from one of our favorite actresses, who also lives in a castle in England

Great place, real close to downtown, rental bike location right around corner. Lots of space, rooms and bathrooms were all very large. Loved the jacuzzi on the patio outside. The oversize king bed was very cosy. Breakfast was a basic offering of meat and eggs, bread items and fruit, but the chef offered to make me an omelette which was awesome. Only issue was the parking. Had to park on a meter until 5 when the parking area they have a pass for emptied out from daily office folks. Recommend the Sushi place right around the corner also, get a coupon from restaurant.com. Didn't feel like a privately run small B&B but definately was better and more personal than a hotel. Will go back again for sure

We decided to stay here this time in Chattanooga because we thought it would be fun to walk around downtown and to all the eating/shopping establishments...would have, if it hadn't been REALLY cold. It is a very fun, old building and nice rooms/bathrooms. Really good cookies served in the afternoons too! :) We may try the 'staying downtown to walk around" thing again one day. Would recommend to any of my friends!!

June 11, 2010
I booked a weekend when I moved my daughter in school at UT Chattanooga. The staff was excellent and very friendly, made you feel at home the moment you walk in. The antique furnishings were beautiful, the room was elegant yet cozy, home made cookies outside all hallways if you get a sweet tooth, and breakfast was fabulous. Walking distance to beautiful downtown and the university, all in all a wonderful weekend. Will stay there again!
4.6 out of 5A wonderful gem
September 24, 2009
Tucked away on a side street in downtown Chattanooga, the Stone Fort Inn is one of those serendipities travelers cherish. From the time you walk in the front door, you feel at home and yet pampered beyond belief. Each room is decorated in beautiful antiques with a different theme, and each has a two-person jacuzzi, ooh-la-la! Breakfast is superb, thanks to Chef Brian. Don't miss the afternoon wine and cheese receptions on the weekend. Walking distance to the Electric Shuttle, Stone Fort is a great choice for single business travelers as well as lovers looking for a special escape. We hope to be back and recommend it highly.
