We stayed three nights the beginning of October and had a wonderful time. The Inn is so beautiful and welcoming. Our room and the grounds were very clean and cared for. Sally and Dick are gracious hosts and helped us with local spots to visits. Their dog, Dudley, is super friendly and sweet and was a big hit with all the guests. Breakfast was so good and we also enjoyed dinner at the Inn a couple of nights. Food was great! I wish we could have stayed longer but will definitely be back.
The rooms are charming, the bed is comfortable, the food is delicious, the staff is warm, accommodating, and helpful, and the area is beautiful! One of the best, if not the best B&B we've stayed in.
We spent 3 nights here during the beautiful foliage season. Our view of the White Mountains from our room was spectacular! Room and bathroom were small but very nice. Common areas and grounds were well cared for. Breakfast was good, and availability of coffee all day is a nice touch. Probably the best surprise was the on sitecrestaurant. Food was excellent, views were beautiful, and we didn't have to leave the Inn to eat. Dick and Sally are lots of fun and they have done a remarkable job rehabbing this lovely old Inn. We will be back!!
16 years ago, my wife and I stayed at the Sunset Hill House in Hill House 1 as part of a "just out of college and got a decent job, let's splurge and stay somewhere nice" vacation. We fell in love with the place and stayed in the same suite several years later. Unfortunately the original Sunset Hill House went out of business a few years after that. That being said, Sally and Dick have done an outstanding job bringing the inn back to life! When looking for somewhere to stay for our 15 year anniversary, I was happy to find that the inn was re-opened. Our stay was fantastic. We ate onsite for dinner and breakfast and both times the food was excellent. The Hill House 1 suite is a fantastic suite. I marked 3 for value because that particular suite is a little pricey (for our standards) but is definitely worth paying for. I look forward to our next stay. My only issue (not really a problem) is that if you're staying in this particular suite, it is a "no-kids" suite. I spoke with Sally and Dick about it and I believe that depending on the circumstance, it may not be an issue, but now that we have kids, if we do come back with the kids, I would like to stay in the same suite but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. :)
A classic old New Hampshire inn with comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff, gorgeous views, excellent food and libations near all the Franconia Notch attractions and a short drive to Mt Washington and other White Mountain National Forest sites. This was our second time staying and enjoyed it even more under the new management.
My wife and another couple decided to do the New England fall tour. We had no real references for places to stay. We found the Inn on this website We visited Maine,Vermont and of course the White Mountains. But our stay at the Inn was the highlight of the trip. Dick and Sally are outstanding host. I have a large personality and Dick can accommodate any style. The rooms, the meals, the space in side and out was a most wonderful experience. The highlight of the trip! Yes Dick... I'll be back.
We stayed three nights in early October and wish we could have stayed more. Our room had abay window which became our 5 o'clock spot to take in the great meadow and mountain view. Sunsets from the deck were great too. Breakfast was wonderful with several choices and dinner was superb and at very reasonable prices. We loved the decor of our room and the size of room and bath were very comfortable. Dick and Sally, the owners, were welcoming and helpful in recommendations of area activities as were all of the staff. And of course Dudley the English Sheepdog was loved by all.
The grounds are lovely, and the views from the inn were beautiful no matter what the time of the day. The owners were very personable and friendly, and gave us very helpful information about the area.and things to do. We would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful setting and Inn....we enjoyed wonderful filling breakfast each morning of our stay to begin the day and ended each day with breathtaking view of the mountains and excellent pork chops, salmon , steak . Staff very friendly and owners most welcoming. Will definitely return to this gem!!!
We took a drive up from Abington MA. It was a straight shot on 93 about 2 hours. The drive there alone was absolutely beautiful. Especially between exits 28-40 in Franconia. The surroundings at Sugar Hill were straight out of a picture book. The cottage was perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful, (especially the manager Katie). The owners were wonderful and hospitable. Everything was great but its the little details really caught our attention and will keep us going back. (The soft drinks, the chocolate on the counters, and the cookies on the way out). Certainly planning another trip soon.
This was our 4th visit to the Inn. The building and the grounds are in excellent condition. There were fresh flowers everywhere. We had room 205 in the main building and enjoyed the views from the balcony. The room was very clean and well decorated. There was only one mirror in the bathroom, so a suggestion would be to add another mirror in the room itself. We were able to sleep with the sliding door open (there is a screen) and the cool mountain air was fantastic. We would sit on the balcony each night, drinking wine and watching the moon rise up over the mountains. A nice sit down breakfast is included in the price and we love the ability to walk in an choose our own table. The staff is very friendly. Dinner wasn't the best. My wife ordered the Salmon and part of it wasn't cooked all the way, and the rice was partially under cooked. I ordered the beef tip special and they were dry and lacked taste. BUT, the New England Chowder was excellent. The salads were also very good. The Owners are very friendly and actually made their way around the dining room visiting with all the guests. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to staying at this property again.
Our stay at the Inn at Sunset Hill was wonderful. What beautiful views! The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The dining there is great. This is our second stay and we'd recommend it to others.
My husband & I celebrated our 25th anniversary here In August. Let me start by saying we don't vacation much at all (like seriously our honeymoon 25 years ago was it!) so we were definitely novices when it came to this. The Inn at Sunset Hill is absolutely BREATHTAKING! I did not want to leave! The views, the room, the Jacuzzi tub, the food, the staff, the owners---ALL EXCELLENT!!! I wish I could buy a room as a condo & live there forever!! YES---I am NOT exaggerating! Sugar Hill & this inn are most definitely somewhere I want to come back to year after year after year..... Sally, Dick, & their staff were MOST helpful at everything we asked-----things to do, what to see, etc. They always had great ideas which we took them up on & all of them knew the area VERY well. But yet they don't overwhelm you---they have mastered the skill of being friendly enough, but leaving you to your privacy. Our last night we spent eating dinner there which I can only describe as the most delicious food EVER! Don't miss a chance for those cheesy mashed potatoes! Brought me back to my childhood when my Babcia put "something" in her mashed potatoes, but we never knew what, all I remember is that it made them taste out of this world delicious! AND thats exactly how the inns potatoes are! And don't even get me started on the salmon! There are NO words!!! :) :) Dave waited on us & he is a character! Telling us all kinds of great stories---I could of listened to him forever. And when you stay PLEASE take them up on their breakfasts too---get up early & get down there to eat------that's just as delicious!! I cannot say enough about this place. I am in love!!!!!!!!! The area is very "non-touristy" just as described, which we loved! We adored feeling like we were in our own little private piece of heaven. I am counting down the days to when we can get away & go back!
Just got home from 3 fabulous days at Sunset Hill. Clean and close to all the fun of the White Mountains yet outside the noise and congestion. Views from the Inn are spectacular. Food was beyond our expectations! Staff is outstanding. Innkeepers dog and our dog had a grand time!!! Headed back for the fall!!!
My husband and I spent a lovely weekend at the Inn with our son, duaghter in law and baby. The staff was attentive, kind and helpful, and the public areas for lounging and relaxing were delightful. The room was nicely appointed and comfortable. We hope to return some day.
If you want beautiful views, great clean rooms with comfy beds, personable and friendly hosts and a happy energetic sheep dog named Dudley than you must visit the Sunset Hill Inn at Sugar Hill. My wife, daughter, her boyfriend and I had a wonderful time hiking and hanging out at the Inn. So return in the future. Paul+Deb
The Inn at Sunset Hill is a wonderful place to stay. The Inn is gorgeous and the views are spectacular! The inn keepers and the staff are very friendly and they make you feel right at home! The food was delicious and the room was so spacious and clean! It is a great place for children and pets too! We are so happy we stayed there and we will be going back again for sure!
Our room was wonderful - soothing, clean and airy, with a gas fireplace, flat-screen TV, free wi-fi and a Jacuzzi. The view was, as advertised, absolutely amazing. Sally, Dick and the staff were very gracious, offering to whip us up a breakfast even though we woke up a little after the breakfast hours; they fielded every question with a smile and offered some great tips to maximize our enjoyment of the area. We WILL be back! This is our new favorite place...
The Inn at Sunset Hill has, of course, the best views in New Hampshire, including the Franconia Range close by, and the Presidential range in the distance. New owners Sally and Dick are enthusiastic, friendly and eager to please. We were there on their second week after re-opening, and the dining room was not yet open for dinner. But the breakfasts were just fine, with those wonderful views. The rooms here are not terribly fancy, but quite nice. We have stayed here half a dozen times in the last 12 years. Obviously we like it very much, and find it a quiet, relaxing place as a home base to explore the White Mountains.
The Inn is beautifully decorated and has amazing views of the White Mountains. The innkeepers are extremely welcoming and gracious. Our stay was greatly enhanced by their attentiveness. The food was awesome and reasonably priced. We will definitely be going back!!!
This was a spontaneous trip and the experience was absolutely top notch! Everything about our stay at the Sugar Hill Inn was perfect! Karen and Steven were delightful hosts and demonstrated the perfect balance of being helpful and warm and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our lovely room, the soaker tub (replete with candles), the surprise birthday bubbly chilling in our room and the fabulous breakfast! Thank you, thank you!
