A charming B & B in a restored rural schoolhouse in the countryside, just inland from the Mediterranean sea. It is located in a sub-tropical valley with an excellent climate and a peaceful country setting, just 4kms from the historic town of Velez-Malaga. The school offers three comfortable guest units to rent individually or together, each with their own access and terrace areas. Two of the rooms have a double bed, a kitchen and bathroom. The third room has two single beds and a bathroom. The old schoolroom itself is a fascinating old hall, now the guest living room and breakfast room and is well stocked with books in English and Spanish for our guests to read. The fully fenced complex has beautiful, mature gardens, pool, several outdoor dining areas, barbeque area, a large trampoline, table tennis and a boxing bag. It is an ideal place to relax with a book, enjoying the sound of the birds, and you would never believe that the busy, over-crowded coastal resort hotels are only a ten minute drive away!

We are extremely satisfied with our two nights stay at the Escuela. Everything was just perfect (oh, maybe except for the rain but… it’d be hard for the hosts to do something about it :-) ) The place has its unique atmosphere, history, tradition – you really can feel it all when you’re there! I wonder how great would it be during the summer, with its silence, orange trees, private swimming pool, typical “Andalucian” rural neighbourhood, views, great and very flexible hosts… Can’t wait to be back one day!

From Malaga, take the A7 motorway East, in the direction of Motril and turn off at 272 Km, Vélez-Málaga the exit. At the end of the slip road, at the big roundabout, turn left onto the A356 in the direction of La Viñuela. Keep going straight on, passing 2 roundabouts, and passing the town of Velez to your right (DO NOT TAKE SIGNS TO VELEZ-MALAGA). After about 7 minutes you will see the Bar El Cruce to the left of the main road. Turn left here and follow the road (signposted Benamargosa, amongst other places). Once you have passed the big roundabout, take the road on your right about 200 m past the roundabout. It has a sign to the B&B. Drive about 300m along this road and turn left at the next sign and we are on the left.
