    Posada en Somo, "Mies de Villa" is a beautifully restored bed and breakfast (posada) in rural Somo, close to the seaside city of Santander, North Spain. This region boasts some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Europe, picturesque golf courses and many outdoor activity centres which run expeditions and classes in quad biking, surfing, canoeing and scuba diving. In the winter the nearby mountain range offers skiing, snowboarding and snow shoeing, and the mountainous coastal region is perfect for bikers and cyclists in search of peaceful, scenic routes. Known as "Green Spain", this area is often missed by foreign tourists who head for the crowded narrow beaches of the Costa del Sol and Benidorm. However, this part of Spain is favoured by Spanish holiday makers, who prefer to travel here because of the regions' fresh climate, traditional character and incredible beaches. Posada Mies de Villa, in the town of Somo, is the perfect holiday destination all year round.

    • Santander airport is at aprox 18 km , take motorway towards Bilbao, just after the second tunnel take exit number 7 (Pontejos ,Pedreña ,Somo ). Stay on that road ,after you cross Pedreña there is a bridge , take the first turning right after the bridge ( it is a hill , with traffic lights) there you will see a blue signed post follow it we are 400m from there.

    We visited this guest house in September 09 and found it a wonderful get-away location in a rural and tourist-free area of Spain. The weather was still warm and the beaches clean, vast and beautiful scenery. Santander is great for tapas and shopping and there are loads of activities to do in the region, from surfing to cycling. Definitely worth a visit during your trip to Europe!

    I found this gorgeous B&B 5 minutes from the beach, in North Spain close to Santander. The village is fantastic for beaches and the golf courses are good too. Ideal for a cheap weekend (or week) away, and the family who own Mies de Villa are a very friendly English- speaking family who can't do enough for you. Highly recommendable.

    We believe this part of Spain is so beautiful it is kept secret from the English by the Spanierds! Mies de Villa is a lovely guest house located in a beautiful seaside town called Somo, 20 minutes outside Santander. Mies de Villa is less than 1 kilometre from some of the most beautiful rural beaches I have ever seen. The rooms have exceptionally beautiful exposed stone brickwork and wooden beams, the room we were in had a balcony overlooking the pleasant garden where you can sit and have coffee. The proprietor has a museum of ancient Spanish agricultural artefacts which is interesting to look around, and the breakfasts of toast, coffee and homemade jams was superb (the proprietess is originally from Yorkshire). This guest house is one of the most established in the village and highly recommendable. They have a new English webiste - www.miesdevilla.com
