Jake's Bed and Breakfast

Our stay at Jake's Bed and Breakfast was a complete delight. Mark, the host, made us feel so welcome. He immediately upgraded our room just because the larger suite was not booked. His recommendations for restaurants and all our trips to areas around Custer, Mount Rushmore, and the Black Hills were spot on. We would begin our day by eating a hearty, delicious breakfast, and after seeing what the adorable Jake was up to, be off for a vigorous day of exploring South Dakota. We would be so glad to come home to our beautiful room, a fabulous jacuzzi, and a super comfortable bed. Thank you, Mark, for making our vacation such a perfect one!

Recalling our recent visit with Mark and "Jake" brings delightful memories. Mark is an excellent host and an exquisite chef. The breakfasts were beyond expectation and it kept us going most of the day. Mark created a delectable dinner. The home is enchanting with beautifully appointed rooms. The hospitality is superb and the home is fresh, clean and welcoming. "Jake" is a charming co-host!

We have absolutely nothing negative to say about this experience. Put it this way... if you are debating about this B&B and others in the area, then you should choose this one without hesitation. Our room, walk-in closet and private bath was huge, clean and elegantly furnished. Everything looks brand new. Flat screen TV in our room, Direct TV, videos to watch. We made our own expresso in a single-cup coffee maker before heading down to breakfast. He also offers a free beer or wine drink each night. Important for us was also the location and he is just a short drive to Custer State Park and Jewel Cave -- a great location! Mark is very friendly, accomodating and a fantastic chef. The breakfast each morning was superb. In fact, I am typing this as my husband is packing and the smell of Mark's cooking is incredible. We are sorry to be leaving after just a few nights.

Mark was such a gracious host. The B&B is spotless and so comfortable. Our room was spacious and had a great view of the surrounding hills. Love every minute of it and will definitely be back!

My husband and I planned our first trip to South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore and other attractions. We researched in extreme depth for the perfect place to stay while in South Dakota. We looked at hotels, cabin rentals by owners and bed & breakfast. After reviewing Jake's B&B reviews and pictures, we decided to stay there for the entire length of our vacation...that was the best decision we ever made. Jakes's B&B was the highlight of our trip. Mark was the perfect host and EXCELLENT chef. We stayed in the Master suite and the room was huge and extremely clean. When we came in each day from our day of site-seeing, our room had been cleaned, fresh towels in the bathroom and our bed had been turned down. The last day of our visit, it was cold and foggy outside, so we came in early in the evening. We were going to find a nearby restaurant to dine in, but Mark invited us to stay for dinner. Mark prepared the most excellent dinner for us. If you are planning on staying in the Black Hills Mountains in South Dakota....stay at Jake's Bed and Breakfast.......you won't be disappointed....it is excellent!!!!!! M & D from Texas

My aunt booked a night for my husband and I following our wedding. She kept the details of the stay a secret until the night that we checked in. It was absolutely fabulous!!! The owner, Mark, was hospitable, friendly, and an EXCELLENT cook! The entire bed and breakfast looks exactly as posted on the site. The view was amazing and it was very quiet and peaceful. Everything was perfect, clean, and comfortable. I can't say enough about the experience and I would absolutely book again if I am in the area. We even had the grand opportunity to meet Jake. It was a great stay.

Wonderful host who is friendly, fun to be around, and who enjoys what he does. My room was spotless; the breakfast hearty and filling. In fact, I had asked for water the first morning and on the second morning, a glass of water was waiting for me. Location perfect....I wish I could have stayed longer.

My college-age son is getting married in two weeks, so we decided to take a final trip together. So father and son loaded the car with munchies and drove to South Dakota and stayed at Jake's Bed and Breakfast. Jake is a fabulous host, as is his partner Mark! Jake is the cat but truly runs the place like most cats think they do. Mark is the owner and is a perfect host in every way. Mark is supremely gifted as an artist and builder of his B&B. It is the perfect place in a perfect setting, run by the perfect host, and overseen by the "purrfect" partner (Jake is the cat)! I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Truly unbelievable in every way.

After 9 days visiting the highlights the area, our last night was spent with Jake! We had the Master Suite and what a master suite! The king bed was amazing, better than the one we have at home! Plus their was a 32" Flat Screen hiding in the armoire that made my man smile. Jake and Mark are the ulimate hosts, happy to accomodate your requests. I only wish this B&B was closer to home so we could visit regularly. Jake's is NOT TO BE MISSED!

Most confortable bed I've ever slept in, and the cleanest room I've stayed in. My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and loved it. We also had Mark cook us dinner. It was amazing. I am gluten/wheat intolerant so he got some special GF bread and even made croutons for my salad out of it. He used very high quality ingredients. I can't remember the last time I had steak and the thought of steak sauce didn't even come to mind. Mark was a great host as well and went out of his way to accommodate everyone. If we go back to Custer, we would absolutely stay here again. It turned out to be the most relaxing vacation we've ever taken. I don't have any bad things to say about this B&B. One peice of advice I have is if you stay on the 3rd floor and can't sleep unless it's dungeon dark, bring an eye mask. There aren't any curtains up there so it can get bright in the AM. That's the only thing I can think of.

Thank you so much for your awesome hospitality! We wanted peace and quiet without having to “rough it” and you made that possible. The firepit and wood only made the cool evenings more enjoyable. You’re an amazing host and I only wish we had made time to sample your cooking skills. We not only had a wonderful trip, but made a friend along the way. Definitely a keeper in our travels hosts!

Beautiful home and in excellent location. Mark was a great host... offering great advice for seeing the local attractions and places to eat. The home/room were great... really more than we expected. We had one of the large rooms upstairs... very nicely furnished... and very clean. We would highly recommend this as a one night stay or longer (we stayed three nights)...!

The room was spacious and decorated to a very high standard. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The jacuzzi was filled and emptied for us. The views were superb. The besr bed and breakfast that we have ever stayed in.

We were so pleased with this outstanding B & B ! The entire home was spotless and beautifully appointed rooms. Absolute quiet in our huge room, instant hot water in shower, stunning views from our room and the covered veranda, delicious and hearty breakfasts all made our vacation to the Black Hills a great getaway. It was so convenient to all the area sights, it was easy to come and go each day. Mark and Jake were the perfect hosts!

Our three-night stay this September in the Master Suite could have not been any better. The quality built home sits in a beautiful setting and of all the B&B's we have stayed at this one tops them all! Mark (and Jake of course) could not have been more accommodating and it was a pleasure to talk with Mark while having breakfast. He makes you feel right at home, as if you have known him for years. We hated to leave but hope to return one day.

We came to Custer for the Roundup. We found so much more in the area, thanks to Mark. His hospitality and knowledge of the area helped us enjoy our stay much more than we expected. Mark was a wonderful host, who gave us directions in the area for exploring. He also made a wonderful breakfast and the rooms were fantastic. We would go back there every week if we had the chance.

This was one of the best surprises of our vacation! Mark was extremely friendly and hospitable and everything was immaculate and beautiful - inside and out! This is definitely a place we will return to and we will most definitely recommend it to anyone traveling that way.

Stayed four nights in this idyllic getaway while touring all of the Blackhills sites & history. Made a perfect place to relax and just watch the wildlife at the end of a busy day - including the herd of deer and the busy little chipmunks that visited us. Mark goes the extra mile to make sure every guest (and he was full while we were there) is fully catered for. The rooms are very well appointed, nothing to want for there, spotlessly clean bathroom. Breakfast is nothing short of monumental (matching Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse) - you won't need lunch. And if you dine there Mark cooks up a storm. We'd go again - and so should YOU!!

We stayed in the new junior suite on the first floor. It wasn't quite finished yet, some of the woodwork didn't have the nail holes filled and there wasn't any finish on the wood, but I doubt many people would even notice. What they would notice was the pair of Turkish bathrobes in the closet and the beautiful dressers in the room. It was very nice not to have to go upstairs when we got there because I had a horrible migraine. Being able to just go to bed immediately that afternoon in the darkened room was a Godsend. My husband took his book and enjoyed the beautiful view and quiet outside on the deck. Even though our room was on the ground floor, the soundproofing was so well done we were hardly aware there was anyone else in the building. Mark had pamphlets about all the local places for sightseeing, including maps, which was a big help the next day when we went to see the Badlands. Breakfast is served for everybody at a big table upstairs, but each person's breakfast is cooked to order. It was fun to talk to the other guests at breakfast. I had two regrets (besides having to leave). First, I wish we had ordered Mark's dinner. Second, I had no idea Mark had stained glass birdhouses to sell. I would have loved to see them, and maybe bought one. He was too classy to mention it, and if he had any on the deck that would have invited conversation, they were too subtle for me to notice.

I was skeptical about staying at a B&B as we had always been a chain hotel type of travelers. Mark (owner) made us feel right at home right from the get go. He truly bent over backwards to ensure we had a pleasant experience. He helped us with every detail of our visit to the area of Custer SD. I can't say enough about his hospitality! I am sold on B&B's after this experience!!! The B&B is spotless!! Every detail of it's construction was thought out and no expenses were spared! All of the rooms have insulation in the walls so you don't here a peep from anyone in the whole establishment. We enjoyed an excellent home cooked breakfast every morning (after our cappuccino in our room to get us going). Then on one of the nights we ordered our special meal to be cooked by Mark (an ex-chef). WOW! the Pecan Chicken and the Fillet Mignon were out of this world!!!! Make sure you take advantage of this optional service if you visit Jake's B&B- You won't be sorry! On our day of departure I had developed a leak in my rear motorcycle tire. Mark, on his own, brought out a bucket of soapy water and got down on his hands and knees and tried to find the leak. He also said he had connections with a motorcycle repair shop and if we wanted we could stay another night while they repaired my tire... We pressed on and eventually made it home (after many air stops). But just the thought of having such personalized attention to our well being was heartwarming. When we said good-bye to Mark and his cat Jake- it was like saying goodbye to a family member. We'll always remember Mark and Jake and our visit to beautiful Custer, SD and Jakes Bed and Breakfast. Mark and Jake made our vacation truly special. From now on when we book vacations we'll be using Bed and Breakfast.com. B&B's are the way to go!! NO MORE BORING HOTELS FOR US! Jakes Bed and Breakfast In Custer, South Dakota Is A Spectacular, ‘Must Go There’ Place…! Do Not Pass This Up. We stayed 4 nights but would have loved to stay forever. So Romantic - Peaceful - Breathtaking Views - Exquisite Cuisine - Most Comfortable Beds - Extra Spacious Rooms With Large Private Bathrooms - Deep Relaxing Jacuzzi For 2 - A Host With The Most - And Spotlessly Clean, Clean, Clean… We Almost Forgot To Leave The “Bed & Breakfast” And See All The Tourism Sites In The Black Hills Of SOUTH DAKOTA.

Two miles from Custer on good dirt road. Spotlessly clean. Jake is the cat. Mike is the owner and was very helpful with tourist suggestions. He built the B&B with superior materials. Breakfast is eggs, bacon/sausage, toast, hashbrowns, coffee, juice. If you want a fruit, yogurt and cereal, let him know a few days in advance. We stayed in Master #2, which I think is a mirror of #1. The rooms are large and uncluttered. There are no curtains, including the bathroom. I think Custer is a much superior location than Rapid City for touring the Black Hills. There's a fine bike trail from Custer north and south, totaling 109 miles. Biking to Hill City and eating at the Alpine Inn is a good idea. If you visit Mount Rushmore at night, stay in the ampitheater until all the traffic clears out. This B&B is for sale ($425K complete), so you may find a new owner.

Mark and his buddy, Jake (the cat), were and are remarkable hosts. Knowlegeable of the area and helped us to find the fastest routes or the most scenic routes from point A to point B. Location is easy to find, on the west side of town, but remote enough to allow deer to roam by the B&B. Beautiful views from the suites, very quiet and private rooms, wide wrap-around porch, breakfasts are tasty and substantial enough to last you through suppertime. White tablecloths and real napkins, stemware, fresh flavorful breakfast foods. We'll be back again! My husband and I hope you experience Jake's, too.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at Jake's bed and breakfastand it was by far the nicest place we stayed on our vacation to Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota. Mark made us feel right at home. The rooms are very large and lavishly decorated and the bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept on. The entire premises was clean and spotless. We paid for two nights of dinners and they were spectacular! This shouldn't have been surprising because Mark is a former professional chef and it shows in his cooking. Located down a winding dirt road in Custer it offers a quiet place to stay away from the commercialization of the main strip. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Nice quiet place rounded by hills and pines. Very friendly and helpful innkeeper. Full kitchen even with some meal, washer and dryer. Breakfast and dinner available on site.

My boyfriend and I went there this weekend for a night as a birthday getaway. The owner couldn't be MORE accommodating. I told him that it was my boyfriend's birthday and he suprised him with a wonderful birthday cake. The location is great and the bed was awesome. The BEST part of this B&B was the hot tub room. It's an awesome two person tub that has great jets and looks out to the mountains. We drank the complimentary beers in the tub after dinner while listening to the suround sound music playing throughout the house and almost fell asleep. I can't wait to hopefully go back and send other's this way. It was wonderful!

King Suite, wonderful sheets, bathroom Jacuzzi, beautiful view, breakfast cooked by a chef all five mornings, met our every need.

We loved Jakes B&B. The rooms are beautiful, views out every window, great food especially the gourmet dinners. Be sure to take advantage of the jacuzzi complete with candles and bubble/bath salts. Thanks Mark for a great time. s PS. be sure to buy one of his birdhouses

From the moment you arrive, you are treated as the most important guest. A full breakfast in an elegant setting and an attentive host seeing to your every need. The dinner experience is a treat.

The trip completed my husband's goal of seeing sights in all 50 states. I have visited 49 states, we were thrilled to stay at Jakes B&B in Caster, SD. The B&B was tastefully decorated, clean, and relaxing. Mark is an excellent cook and host.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights and hated to leave. Mark is so very personable, and Jake's a cutie. The house was beautiful, and I just wish we could have spent more time in it, bit we had so much sight seeing to do. This bed and breakfast is so clean. The beds are so comfortable I hated to leave and go home to my own bed. Usually after a trip away I'm ready to get back into my own bed. But this trip was different; Jake's B&B beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The house is kept spotless. Mark goes out of his way to make you comfortable. He even gave me a special box of homemade (delicious) chocolates for my anniversary. My only complaint is there are no curtains on the windows. The view is beautiful but I like a dark room so the morning sun had me up too early each day. Curtains would be a welcome addition. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants to relax in a clean, well kept home, where the host is there to serve you and make your stay everything you want it to be. Thanks Mark! :)

I have upgraded the the 3rd floor junior suite to a master by adding a sitting area and beer and wine! I also added another room a Junior suite on the first floor with Curtains! for guests that like it dark!!

If I'd known how great this place was when I booked it, I would have stayed longer than one night! The house is beautiful with a gorgeous view from the second-story deck. Mark, the owner/host, is like a dream host--he goes out of his way to make sure you're happy... For instance, he prepares the jacuzzi with scented salts (your choice) and candles. And the cappuccino bar made me feel I was in heaven. My only regret: I didn't know that, with a few hours notice, Mark (a chef) will prepare a five-course meal for two for $65! My husband and I had booked Jake's Bed and Breakfast to stay in, for our excursion in South Dakota. Our host Mark, was wonderful and did not leave a detail untouched. Kudos to Mark for building the place himself!! It was my birthday the Friday we flew into South Dakota and Mark made a cake for me when I arrived at his B&B. The sweetest gesture ever! The rooms were super large, immaculate and the jacuzzi tub was beautiful. The quiet peacefulness was a plus, as well! We saw horses, deer and heard bull frogs at night. Quite a difference from hectic, stressful New Jersey! I would definetly recommend Jake's Place to anyone visiting South Dakota. Mark made us feel like family and cooked us a breakfast to die for every morning. His bacon is the best I ever ate! It was a pleasure to know we would come home after our visits to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, and relax on the wrap around porch right outside our bedroom! All this and Mark, the owner, makes stained glass bird houses, too! I had to have one for our return. It will always remind me of our stay in Custer, South Dakota. A trip, I will never forget. My husband and I along with our friends were Mark's first guests this summer (early June). Since we had reserved both rooms we had the run of the house for three days. Mark was a gracious host and made us feel welcome from the start. I would recommend Jake's to anyone looking for a romantic get away or fantastic place to start or end a vacation.
