The Old Academy was originally built and used as Walterboro's first school house. It is now a charming, fully restored Georgian style home which received the William Lowndes Award in 1998 from the Colleton County Historical Society for the preservation of an historic building. Located in Walterboro's historic district and within walking distance to the downtown area and many antique shops. Enjoy an old fashioned fountain coke at the corner drugstore on Main St. Only an hour away from Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect warmth and comfort and Jean's award winning gourmet breakfast is sure to delight.

What a treat!! Don and Jean Sterling made our visit to Old Academy Bed and Breakfast a memorable one. We LOVED it!! The breakfast was out of this world. The rooms/bathrooms were spotless. I felt we were staying in a place right out of a magazine. We are already planning to return :)

Our stay at the Old Academy was lovely. It is quiet even though it's just minutes off I95! Our friendly, helpful hosts made us feel welcome and were knowledgeable about places for dinner. A wonderful breakfast and interesting others guests helped to make this a place we will return to!
