Charleston's Vendue Inn

We stayed one week in the end of June as we've read a lot of positive reviews about this Inn. Unfortunately it didn't meet any expecations. It's way overpriced and there are a lot of much better places to stay in Charleston. I can accept poor service and a lower room standarad, but not if you pay over 300/night. The staff -which seems to be coming from Easten Europe- did serve the tables as well as cleaning the rooms. Their English was very poor as well as their service and general knowledge about Charleston. The room was very old and outdated (King Suite). I would not recommend this Inn at this price!

I am writing to let other travelers know about what a gem the Vendue Inn, in Charleston, South Carolina. My sister, niece and I recently spent time at the inn and were very pleased with the entire experience. The staff was courteous, helpful, attentive and professional; the food was simply marvelous; the rooms were fresh, clean and well appointed and our time there was wonderful. I would recommend this gracious Inn to anyone looking for fine accommodations and great food.

Appreciated being accomodated for an early arrival. The room was spacious, and while traditional ,also had modern touches. Breakfast was fantastic with wonderful choices each day. The rooftop bar addds a whole other dimesion to a bed and breakfast and has unsurpassed views, especially of the sunset.

My husband and I enjoyed a most perfect three night stay at the Vendue Inn. The staff was so helpful and friendly, the breakfasts and cocktail hours wonderful, and the access to bicycles, great fun. If we were to return to Charleston, we would definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay at Vendue. The accomodations were excellent and the location was good too. Be sure to try the Bananas Foster French Toast selection at breakfast. You'll order it every day after the first taste!

The Vendue Inn was one of the best places I have ever stayed. The attention to detail, the incredible staff, the location and the food could not have been any better!!! Any question was answered with kindness, knowledge and politely. Being addressed by name and having your preferences remembered was an astonishing highlight of a lovely stay!!!

We enjoyed several wonderful days, treated as special guest and favorites of the house. Thank you!

My husband and I stayed at the Vendue Inn for 3 nights last month to celebrate our anniversary. What a perfect spot! The location is terrific - right in the heart of historic Charleston. The breakfast was fantastic - lots of choices and all of them delicious. The manager's reception in the afternoon was very nice as well. Plenty of light appetizers and a choice of wines. We used the bikes one morning and found them to be a great way to see even more of the city. Our standard queen room was very charming and just the right size with a roomy bathroom w/jetted tub. Our view left something to be desired (electric tower and parking garage), but we were mostly out enjoying the city. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. We got great restaurant recommendations from the concierge and he booked a bus tour for us that we found to be a great way to get to know more about the city. Don't miss the rooftop bar at sunset (after the manager's reception, of course!). There's a great view of the water and the city. All in all, we were very pleased with our stay and would recommend the Vendue Inn to anyone traveling to Charleston.

We stayed at the Vendue Inn for 2 nights -- the night before our wedding and the night of our event. The Inn staff were professional, courteous and accommodating (my mother is in a wheelchair and they went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable and could get around easily); but they also ensured that this most special occasion was remembered as such. From directing breakfast(!) and our bridesmaids to the room, which was spacious enough to use as my bridal suite, to leaving a bottle of champagne and a personalized card from the manager when we got back from the reception. The Inn itself is historic and charming, yet luxurious. I would definitely equate it to a boutique hotel. The dining rooms are bright and plush. Although we did not have time to experience dinner at the Inn, the breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. Again, even here in the restaurant, they went out of their way to satisfy our substitutions and silly food requests. Overall, the Vendue Inn was perfect for our special occasion and met our every romantic (and practical) desire. It is centrally located and a great base to start any walking tour around the historic part of the City.

This was a "Sisters" vacation- 4 0f us. The Vendue Inn went out of their way to make us comfortable, happy, full - in every way. We will always want to stay here when we come to Charleston !

From the moment we checked in, they were so willing to make our stay the best hotel experience anywhere. They went above and beyond in helping us with reservations, taking care of making sure we got the best nights sleep and loved the cookies and milk in the evening. Would definately come back and recommend to my family and friends. Thank you Vendue Inn.

The Vendue Inn provided the perfect blend of old and new. This boutique hotel has the old world charm that is echoed throughout Charleston’s French quarter and combines it with the service of a first rate hotel. The location was idea for us, located near fine dining (including the Vendue’s Library restaurant) and within easy walking distance of the historic sights of old Charleston. Kudos to Susie Ridder for a well run establishment.

We extended our honeymoon by a day and picked the Vendue Inn! I called on Monday to reserve a room for Wednesday. When we checked in we were pleasantly surprised to find our room had be complimentarily upgraded and a chilled bottle of champagne awaited us to to celebrate our recent marriage. The breakfast was delicious with good portions. Our room was cozy, very comfortable and I was impressed by the modern bathroom, considering the age of the building in historic, downtown Charleston. Tons to do and see within walking distance.

We just stayed for a wedding in Charleston at the Vendue Inn and I can't imagine a better location if you want to be downtown near the battery and surrounded by great restaurants. Positives - Location, Staff Attentiveness, Luxurious Rooms. The only negative were some hot/cold issues with our shower.

Loved my stay at Vendue Inn. From the bellmen to the waitresses, the staff were all pleasant and accommodating. My room was older, but charming, and kept very clean and well-stocked. The bed was very comfortable! LOVED the complimentary full breakfast each morning - so much to choose from! The cookies at night were delicious too! The Inn was within easy walking distance of anything/everything in downtown Charleston, and there were free bikes available if you didn't feel like walking. I would highly recommend the Vendue Inn.

Just spent the night here and had a very nice visit. Great location to shops and restaurants. Everyone was very nice, great breakfast comes with the room. Great atmospshere - would do it again.

Phenomenal location. Right down by the waterfront and an easy walk anywhere one would like to go int the historic district. Staff is friendly, welcoming, and always recognizes you (even toward young people who are clearly staying in a B&B beyond their means).

This was an awesome find! We had never traveled down South and were enamored from our first encounter at the curb! We were always treated like royalty. the room was lovely, but the bathroom could use an upgrade. The morning breakfast was delicious and filling. we could choose Southern or healthy depending on our mood and it was included in our rate. An unexpected plus was the daily wine reception. The choices were varied and the hosts were gracious. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. We would highly recommend for a great location and wonderful staff and service! The rooftop bar is a must!

My husband and I took advantage of our child being away on her Senior Class Trip to take our first steps as soon-to-be-empty-nesters. This was actually my 2nd stay at the Vendue Inn, my first being with our daughter last summer. The neat thing about this visit was that my husband and I ended up staying in the same room as our daughter and I did back in August! My husband and I were WOWED by everything about the Vendue Inn, from the superb service of the staff that made us feel so "at home" to the delicious Southern breakfast each morning! We especially enjoyed how quiet the inn is, promoting both romance and relaxation, as well as how conveniently located it is to everything in historic Charleston. Over the years, we have stayed in almost every nearby inn in the area. After finding the Vendue Inn, though, we feel as though we have found our home-away-from-home in Charleston and will choose to stay there for all of our future visits!

From turning over our car keys at the curb to checking out 3 days later at 5:30 AM the stay was PURE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. You will be a family member on holiday when you arrive! From a super breakfast to a social gathering for appetizers and wine...not to be missed the cookies and milk later in the evening you ARE a lost relative. What to do...where to go...where to eat...where to eat...did I say that twice - forgot - you can dine on the roof and eat casually or dine elegantly in the "Library". Oh and if the Mrs. want to shop they can point you in the right direct there too! A wonderful experience with warm weather and warm hoteliers!

Prime location within walking distance of all main Charleston attractions. We had the valet park our car and didn't need it again until our departure. Our best meal was at The Library within the hotel, although we also had excellent meals within a half block of the hotel at well known restaurants Magnolia's and S.N.O.B. Friendly service (but not overly cloying) by all employees. Lots of character in our room and throughout the hotel--fitting for a visit to Charleston. Full service breakfast was tasty and convenient. Nice perks were the late afternoon wine party with snacks, and the cookies and milk served during the evening.

What a fantastic Inn with a fantastic staff, with the best location in Charleston. The Vendue Inn created the perfect atmosphere for a Fantastic Honeymoon. From the time reservations were made until the final check-out, the staff was amazing, courteous, and attentive. The room was fantastic.....warm, spacious, comfortable and romantic. The bell staff is second to none. You have to visit the Vendue to experience the most wonderful breakfast room and the staff that greet you there. We will visit again, no doubt.

My husband and I just returned from our second stay at the Vendue Inn and once again it was a wonderful experience. The staff is attentive, friendly, knowlegeable, and goes out of their way to see to your every need. The rooms are plush and cozy...we have stayed in the fireplace king jr. suite and the king luxury suite...we love having a fireplace so we always book a room with one. The beds are just sinful....down pillows, down comforter, feather bed atop a plush mattress. The decanter of sherry awaiting you when you arrive is such a nice touch. We like the main building of the Inn the best...such atmosphere and character...and easy access to the full southern breakfast in the morning..comes with the room...as well as the afternoon wine and cheese...and evening fresh baked cookies and milk. You have the Library resturant right in the Inn...fabulous food but don't neglect to walk the short distance to any one of a dozen great resturants near the Inn...you also have the rooftop bar...seriously...you don't actually need to leave for anything except shopping...you are right at Waterfront park too! Keep in mind...the Inn is in a nearly 300 year old building.... the furniture is either a genuine antique or a nearly antique reproduction so there is some wear...but its comfortable..aged elegance. It might not be for everyone...but we love it.

Arrived a little tired and cranky after a 12 hour drive....The southern hospitality quickly restored us especially after entering our beautiful room...a quick shower and off to see the wonderful neighborhood and dine at one of the very fine restaurants...the next morning brought the charming, Susie Ridder, to our table to help plan our day...we cannot wait to return to Charleston and the Vendue Inn.

We stayed three nights at the Vendue Inn and loved every minute of it. We stayed in one of the "fireside" rooms across the street. The Vendue Inn is within walking distance of the places you would want to visit - Battery Park, Market Street, Riverside Park, many restaurants and many wonderful old churches. The breakfast each morning was more than we had expected, with a variety of dishes to chose from or just get the special of the day. The Rooftop Bar was definitely for the younger crowd but the view was terrific. We would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Charleston. Well worth the money.

My husband and I stayed at the Vendue Inn for a few days over the holidays....we arrived the day after Christmas and left on January 2nd....it was a fabulous place to stay. We originally planned to stay for just a couple of days and move on to Savannah....we were so comfortable there that we extended our stay. We had a luxury suite for the first 3 days, but it was booked for the time we extended, so we moved to a beautiful room across the street! We loved it and can't wait to go back! We even bought two of the robes about 6 years ago....still look like new!

It was an excellent value. We stayed in the building across the street. The rooms were small but nice. It was very easy to hear what was going on in the room next door. Snoring, etc.

We were to stay in a "fireplace king" room, but when we arrived, we were upgraded (don't know why!) to a junior suite. It was just gorgeous! The bed, with its yummy soft down duvet and linens was like sleeping in a cloud. We turned the AC down so that we could enjoy the fireplace, which lit with just the press of a switch. The jacuzzi tub was a lovely place for a long soak. The Inn is in a great location, near the water and shopping/restaurants, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We will stay there again if we get to return to Charleston, our new favorite city!

Charleston's Vendue Inn provides guests an outstanding lodging experience from the moment of arrival until the time of departure. Located in the heart of Charleston's historic district, it is within easy walking distance of excellent restaurants and major points of interest. The initimate nature of this property exudes a romantic atmosphere for couples seeking a romantic getaway, yet it also provides the sophistication and services often sought by business travelers. The afternoon guest reception is always amazing, an impressive number of breakfast items is offered each morning's menu, and freshly baked cookies and warm milk are set out each evening for guests to snack on before retiring for the day. The Library, the inn's in-house restaurant, serves delectable meals most evenings (reservations recommended). The staff at Charleston's Vendue Inn are welcoming and knowledgeable and make every effort to ensure each guest at the inn has a memorable visit. Just got back from a short vac. with my daughter. I can't say enough about the Vendue Inn we both loved it and everyone had such southern charm!! Meals were fantastic and the bed absolutely wonderful to sleep in. We can't wait to make another trip just to stay at this fab Inn! Say hi to the door man just a wonderful southern gent!! Within walking distance to the mail highlights of the city. Very quiet neighborhood with a bucolic atmosphere.

I actually stayed at the Vedue several years back and was thrilled to see that it hadn't gone away. The first trip there was a birtday gift from my S/O and I am working on getting this same gift again for this year. Everything about this Inn is perfection. From location to guest assistance. If you stay anywhere but here you will be making a mistake. Hope to see you all again soon Vendue staff...cross your fingers for me:)

We loved the elegant room with fireplace, every amenity and excellent breakfast buffet of everything you could want for a holiday delight- eggs, waffles, fruit...then the evening wine and snacks as well. The service was superb- you are really pampered here!
