Inn Details

Parker Cottage is in fact two grand Victorian cottages (Nos. 1 and 3 Carstens Street) designed by renowned Cape Town architect John Parker in 1895, now joined into one grand house. Our aim at Parker Cottage is to combine luxurious hospitality and accommodation with an active concern for the society and the environment.

We’re less than 5 minutes by car from the V&A Waterfront and less than 5 minutes on foot from trendy Kloof Street with its cafés, bars and boutiques.

At Parker, we are striving to show that luxurious accommodation does not have to cost the resources of the earth: by 2015, Parker aims to be ‘off-grid’ for water heating, electricity, water and sewage and recycling 90% of our waste. See Parker and the Earth on our website for more details.

    Photo Album

ROOM 7 has a distinctly rural feel: it’s decorated in earthy greens and browns and features a wrought-iron and brass Queen sized bed. The large sash window faces out through colonial shutters onto a private courtyard at the back of the house. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower over and a stately 1930s mahogany wardrobe along with a tub armchair.Parker is a small, owner-managed business with five permanent staff, six if you count Busby. We’re Liz and Phil (the owners) first and second from left.

Anton, our manager, (fourth from left) has been working in hospitality for longer than he can remember: Anton is, in his own words, part of the furniture at Parker!

Betty (fifth from left) has been working at Parker for over 8 years: beginning as a cleaner, she’s now one of two senior housekeepers along with Marie.

Marie (third from left) came to Parker in 2004 to help Betty out but initially only as a maid. She’s now a housekeeper with Betty and is mainly responsible for the kitchen and its smooth running.

Albert (first from right) hails from the Eastern Cape where he still lives: a painter and handyman by trade, we've known Albert for over ten years. His Xhosa name is Mthetheleli, which means 'one who speaks on behalf of others'.
