The perfect gift for every occasion

  • The home was built in 1899 by a merchant family in one of Deadwood's most prominent neighborhoods. Walk down the hill to the saloons & casinos on historic Main Street, or walk up the hill to Mount Moriah Cemetery, where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried.
The original Victorian staircase is just inside the front door. The good news? Beautiful stained glass that lights up with the morning sun. The bad news? It's creaky. There's no sneaking around this house.
We have a 42" HDTV in the sitting room that's internet connected for direct streaming from Netflix or Amazon, HD cable that includes HBO, and a Nintendo Wii with two controllers, Wii Fit and a yoga mat.
The downstairs parlor is a common room with a piano, a couch, a love seat and a beautiful period fireplace.
No, the kitchen hasn't been updated since 1978. No, the mustard yellow and faux brick isn't our favorite. Yes, you can use it anytime you'd like. There's refrigerator space, a small oven, an electric cooktop, a dishwasher, and a handful of small gadgets (waffle iron, toaster, infrared oven, immersion blender, food processor) that you'r e more than welcome to use.
The attic room is the largest bedroom in the house, with a queen size bed, TV, vaulted ceiling, papasan chair and en suite bathroom. It's also the only bedroom on the third floor, which means it's one of the most private spaces in the house.
The private attic bathroom was renovated just a few years ago, with a tile floor, shower and single sink vanity.
This bedroom was the home's original library. It's a large room with three beds: a full-size futon (a new plush mattress), a twin-size bunk, and a full-size sleeper sofa. The bathroom is en suite, and it has easy access out to the kitchen. It's the only bedroom on the first floor, and it's at the back of the house, which is one of the quietest and most private parts of the home. It only gets direct sunlight in the late afternoon, which makes it a good option if you're a late sleeper.
This is the home's original maid's chambers. It's a smaller bedroom, but it has a queen bed, TV, nightstand and dresser with mirror. It's a corner room with two windows on the second floor, near the maid's staircase that descends down to the kitchen. The bathroom isn't en suite - it's a quick walk down the hall - but it's worth it. The home's only original bathroom, it's got a giant clawfoot tub and was just restored with a new heated floor and plumbing.

The 1899 Inn is in the heart of Deadwood's Presidential District, one of the city's oldest quarters. We're a five-minute walk from the important stuff, including the saloons and casinos on Main Street, the Adams Museum and the 114-mile-long Mickelson Trail, an old railroad now used for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking and snowmobiling. The Adams House is just five houses over (you can catch the Deadwood Trolley there), and Mount Moriah Cemetery, the final resting place of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane, is a few minutes' walk to the top of our hill. The home is one of the largest Victorians in Deadwood, with three rooms available for guests: the large Attic Room, the first-floor Old Library, and the cozy Maid's Chambers, all with private baths. The house has original woodwork, fixtures and stained glass, with updated plumbing, heating and air conditioning. Full disclosure: we keep rates relatively low because the house is a work-in-progress. Expect some unpainted walls, missing trim and a kitchen straight out of 1978. If you're looking to stay in a historic property and don't mind a few quirks, this is the place for you.

    Attic Room

The Attic Room is a large bedroom with private bath on the third floor. It's a good climb up the stairs, but the room is spacious and the bathroom was added just a few years ago. There's one queen bed in this space, plus two dressers and a television. The rest of the attic is unfinished, so you have the entire floor to yourself.

    Maid's Chamber

The old Maid's Chamber is a little smaller than the other bedrooms in the house, but has a queen-size bed, dresser with mirror and a TV with basic cable. Views are of the historic barn next door and meadow behind the house. The bathroom is private but not en suite - it's a quick walk down the hall. Newly restored, the bathroom features a giant clawfoot tub and heated tile floor.

    Old Library

This is our only first-floor bedroom, which was the home's original library. We've moved our library to the second floor, and opened this room up to guests. It has an en suite private bath, with a separate water closet with pull-chain toilet. The room has a bunked bed (full on bottom, twin on top) with a full-size sleeper sofa. It's a little more dated than the other rooms, but has a large bathroom with jetted tub and easy access to the kitchen.

    Signature Dish

    Western Breakfast Burritos
By special request (on weekends only, alas), Laura will whip up a batch of Western Breakfast Burritos. Made with maple-cured bacon, breakfast sausage, country potatoes and scrambled eggs served in a flour tortilla with cheese, they're simple, a little spicy, probably not very healthy, but incredibly tasty. A baked egg dish or fresh bread and pastries are available every day.
