Almondy Inn

My girlfriend and I were here for a weekend in April, 2013 and I was very happy with the Almondy Inn. The owners definitely take pride in their Inn and it shows. Rooms were very clean, fresh, and inviting. Breakfast was great both mornings we were there as well. The location couldn't be better - literally steps from Thames street and very easy to get to restaurants, bars, etc. We would definitely recommend/go back.

We really enjoyed the hospitality provided by the owners, including sharing some life stories over complimentary wine and cheese! The location was perfect for the time of year we went (pre-season, in April), with a very short walk to Thames St. with all of the downtown shopping, food, and bars. We were still able to drive around and see all of the attractions, including beaches and mansions, within a 10 minute drive. The breakfast served was fantastic each morning, and provided a great time to mingle with the other guests. We had a wonderful stay.

Evelyne was a fantastic hostess. She went above and beyond to make our stay special. It was wonderful to have the wine and cheese hour to meet the other guests. I highly recommend this property. It is close to all the major attractions. We would definitely go back! Hope to see you soon, Evelyne! Cheers!

Our host were great, provided information, conversation, wine and food. Ideal locations within walking distance of most attractions. We are looking forward to returning.

My boyfriend and I took advantage of the off season rates and spent a night at the Almondy B&B. We stayed in the Blue room. The room was beautifully decorated , the bed was extremely comfortable, and the fireplace added to the romantic atmosphere. My favorite aspect of the room was definitely the 2 person jacuzzi tub. I'm 6'2 and it was so refreshing to have access to a bathtub that was actually long enough for me. We really enjoyed the personal touches of the inn, wine and cheese at night, a warm delicious breakfast in the morning, bathrobes in the rooms. We can't wait to go back!

My wife and I spent a long weekend in Newport to celebrate our anniversary. Evelyne & Herber are wonderful hosts and clearly love what they are doing. We can't say enough great things about this B&B! The breakfast offerings were far above and beyond anything we've seen in a B&B. The wine & cheese hour was a very nice touch allowing us to meet and chat with the other guests. With only five rooms these events served to bracket the day and really make us feel at home with the other guests in the house.

Breakfast was particularly enjoyable, as food was delicious and served promptly, and the "communal table" which can be a real negative turned out to be very enjoyable. We made several new friends during our brief stay.

We were able to walk to just about everything we wanted to see in this beautiful town. Didn't move our car until the day we left. Our room was small but very nice. We enjoyed our stay.

The location is great, right off the harbor. The innkeepers are friendly. The food is fantastic. The rooms are clean and well appointed. We have stayed there twice now and look forward to staying again

My wife and I stayed at the Almondy Inn during the America's Cup World Series in July, 2012. It was our first visit to Newport and we knew little about the town, but I don't think we could have found a more perfect place to stay. The location is fantastic, just steps away from the wharfs and the center of the village. The room was wonderful, the innkeepers charming, and the breakfasts were amazing. We will absolutely be returning to the Almondy Inn the next time we visit Newport. Very highly recommended.

Stayed at the Almondy Inn for two nights in September. The Inn was very close to Bowens Wharfe, which was excellent for dining options at night , as there were lots of restaurants to choose from which were only a short walk away. The Inn was beautifully appointed. Breakfasts were lovely and we were offered wine and cheese between the hours of 5- 6. Would have been nice to have coffee machines in the bedroom for early morning coffee. Staff and owners very friendly and helpful with tourist information requests. Would stay again.

Almondy Inn has a great location within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants in Newport, RI. Evelyne is the perfect hostess and it truely becomes your home away from home.

We stayed at the Almondy Inn for our honey moon. The experience was fabulous. The location is great, the rooms are spacious and luxurious, the Evelyne and Herber are phenomenal hosts. The breakfast quickly became the most enjoyable part of our stay (and I am not a breakfast person). Getting to meet and talk with other guests while eating a delicious home made breakfast was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. We definitely plan on staying at the Almondy Inn again next time we visit Newport.

I stayed at the Almondy Inn for 2 nights in August and loved it. The inn is beautiful and well kept, the owners are so gracious and created a great environment. The daily breakfasts are delicious and the wine happy hour is a nice touch. The location is superb, lots of dining and shopping is just across the street and it's a short drive to the mansions and beaches. Would definitely go back!

After many hours of research of various B&B's in the Newport Area, we chose The Almondy Inn. We were not disappointed!!! We are very particular in every regard, and the Almondy Inn met and/or exceeded every expectation we had. It is meticulously clean, both inside and out. The food was abundant and delicious. The room and bathroom were spotless and more than comfortable. The inn was within walking distance to downtown (literally 2 minutes), and saved us a bundle on parking. We arrived early, and The Valkenbergs were wonderfully hospitable. Without a doubt we would come back to this Inn! My husband and I felt is was the best B&B around. The previous reviews were spot on! Can't recommend it enough!

Had a wonderful time at the Almondy Inn. Would highly recommend it. The owners, Evelyne and Herber were very warm and welcoming, made you feel like part of the family. They asked us about any dietary restrictions (vegetarian and lactose intolerant) we may have had and went above and beyond to meet them. They were able to give us many recommendations on the area (restaurants, attractions, etc) and knew the history well. The rooms were lovely and well maintained. The free parking during our stay was key as with most other hotels in the area you have to pay a fee. Overall, it was a great experience and this will definitely turn into a yearly trip.

Great location just a half block from the harbor-front dining. Easy off-street parking. Beautifully refurbished grand old building. Host family was delightful as were the guests.

If you are in Newport this is the place to stay! We just returned from our honeymoon and this place literally brought me to tears! It's gorgeous and clean. Evelyne is lovely and you can not beat the location! We will be back!

Me and my husband stayed at the Almondy Inn on June 8 and June 9 to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The location of the Inn was outstanding, just steps away from Thames Street where all the restaurants, shops and Bannister's Wharf is located. We stayed in the Blue Bay room and it was very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable. We also had a jacuzzi in our bathroom, which was very relaxing after a long day of activities. The breakfasts were also very good and if you didn't like something that was being served on that day, Evelyn was happy to make something different. We would highly recommend the Almondy Inn to our family and friends and if we ever have the chance to go to Newport again we know exactly where we will stay.

The Almondy Inn is charming,close to Newport Harbor and Mansions and provides a lovely and relaxing starting point for any visit to Newport. Evelyne and Herber are wonderful hosts! Our stay was enchanting!

Herb & Evelyne were great to deal with. They were helpful in offering suggestions as to where to eat etc. Evelyne's breakfasts were wonderful!

We spent last weekend at Almondy Inn, and would return in a heartbeat. The Inn was conveniently located near great restaurants and shops. We were within walking distance to everything. The Inn was beautifully decorated, clean, and accommodating. The staff was available to answer questions about the area, and gave great tips about the sites. Our mansion tour voucher was giving to us upon arrival. Breakfast was served on time both days, and was delicious. Our room faced the wharfs, and was warm and inviting. We could not have asked for a better place to stay while in Newport. I would recommend the Almondy Inn to anyone planning a visit to the area!

Just spend a wonderful weekend at the Almondy Inn. Hosts are gracious, rooms are well appointed and clean, food was creative and delicious....it is the perfect place for a romantic weekend getaway. Location was ideal as well -- just a short walk into town. This B&B comes with my highest recommendation!

My husband and I have been to many B&Bs and truly enjoyed this experience. The owners were very open and friendly and we enjoyed our conversations with them. The room was beautiful and immaculate, the breakfasts left us with no room for lunch and the location can't be beat! We'll definitely be booking with them again when staying in Newport!

The welcome was wonderful. Our rooms were lovely, nicely appointed and very clean. Such friendly and experienced proprietors. Our wine and cheese in the evening was fun, and breakfast was fantastic....baked goods, eggs and bacon and beautiful fruit. The coffee was delicious.

We have stayed at The Almondy many times. We always enjoy the company of fellow guests. Evelyne will do anything to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing. Her breakfasts are exquisite. Afternoon wine and cheese in the living room is a wonderful way to meet others staying at the inn. We stayed 2 nights in Plantation room on September 8th 2011, hosts were terrific and bed was very clean and comfortable,breakfasts were tasty.

As soon as we walked in to the Almondy Inn you felt right at home. We stayed in the Blue Room and it was lovely. The cleaniness and updated bathroom was wonderful! The location is just a minute walk down to the Harbor for great dining and shopping. Will be back next year!

Evelyn and Herber are the ultimate hosts; we had a great night sleep each evening and woke to a fabulouse breakfast! They have restored the house beautifully and tastefully. Almondy Inn is literally steps from Bannisters Wharf, the Newport Yacht Club marina and directly behind 3 nightclubs; but despite the close proximity to just about everything we didn't hear any noise at all once we closed our window. A very peaceful sleep in the middle of all the action. We will be back!!

Went for a couple of nights to see Newport and wanted to stay at a B&B. We were both very happy with our choice. Evelyn (innkeeper) was very gracious, more then helpful with dinner suggestions, etc. The Inn had off-street parking which was great considering how crowded it is in the historical area (and expensive to pay for a lot). Gourmet breakfast was great, and we loved the wine & cheese hour in the evening. We have already recommended to friends!

We had a comfortable, fantastic stay. Only way it could have been better is if they asked up front what we wanted to eat! They provided some fancy, delicious food, but would have been nice to know what to expect for breakfast.

We have visited Newport in the last three years and stayed at a hotel and two B&B's. The Almondy is by far our best experience! It is a beautifully restored inn. We stayed in the Blue Bay Room. It was comfortable and exceptionally clean. The jacuzzi tub was a treat! It is evident that Evelyne and Herber take great pride in their establishment and welcome each and every guest as family. The inn is impeccable both inside and out. Ample parking is available. Evelyne knows the area very well and offers great suggestions for restaurant dining and things to do. Breakfast at the inn is superb! She is very accommodating to food allergies and can offer vegetarian options as well. We enjoyed chatting with guests during our stay at breakfast and at the end of the day at the wine and cheese hour. The inn is steps away from all the activities on the wharf area but is also very quiet and relaxing. We had a great experience and will certainly return!

One of the better B&B's my wife and I have stayed in.

My parents have been coming here for a few years, and this time my husband and I took a trip with them. Upon entering the Almondy Inn, my expectations were substantially exceeded. From the hospitable welcome at the front door, to the immaculate, spacious rooms, service, EXQUISITE breakfasts, and other "homey" touches, my husband and I had only wished we started staying here sooner! We were treated like relatives of the innkeepers, and Evelyne assisted us with our daily itineraries, never once leaving us disappointed. Our 4-night, 5-day stay was filled to the brim with activities and delicious meals at the area's superb restaurants. This establishment is run with the utmost professionalism, and the location is spot-on. With just a short walk down to the corner, Bannister's Wharf awaits you. After long afternoons, you can expect "wine and cheese hour" in the parlor and a lovely chat with Evelyne. After dinner, it was a pleasure returning to our charming rooms, but not without relaxing first, on the front porch, enjoying an ice-cream cone from the corner chocolate/ice-cream shop. We will certainly be returning to the Almondy Inn, just like some of the other repeat-guests that we met while staying there. If there is anything you ever need throughtout your stay, Evelyne and her husband Herber are always around to assist you with a smile. We were so sorry to leave!

After having stayed at The Almondy Inn several times, I must say it never disappoints. The rooms are immaculate and Evelyne's breakfasts are superb. We are treated like very dear friends as opposed to guests. We feel very at home there. Also, it is very convenient to the wharf. A very short walk. The only place we will stay in Newport is The Almondy Inn!

You could not ask for better accomodations even at the Ritz. Almondy is by far the best bed & breakfast we have ever stayed at. The location is perfect to downtown Newport, walk to everything. Can't say enough about the room, the view, quiet, the cleanliness, like new condition, and victorian charm, all with a European flare. We received a gift card for Bed and Breakfast.com and chose Newport as we have never been there. I researched every inn using this site and Trip Advisor and my husband and I agreed that the Almondy was perfect. The location is the best; you are a few short blocks from the wharves, the historic district and all the action, shopping and restaurants on Thames St. Evelyn is gracious and helpful and it is easy to see that she loves what she does. Her breakfasts are absolutely delicious and served elegantly. We enjoyed fresh fruits, homemade muffins and croissants, eggs florentine, etc. She serves up wine, cheese and conversation at 5pm which is a great way to meet other people or just get ideas from Evelyn. She is extremely knowledgeable about all things Newport and with so many choices it helps to narrow things down. We stayed in the Blue Bay room for two nights. The room is immaculate as is the large bathroom, which has a lovely basket of luxury toiletries. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! The guest areas of the house are just as well kept, gracious yet inviting. During our travels we did see many of the other B and B's listed and we were so glad we chose the Almondy Inn. We are already planning our return trip!

Well located for the wharfs. Very pleasant inn that is exceptionally appointed. Kingsize bed can leave little room for any luggage in room. Wine and cheese on greeting. Very pleasant

My friend and I had a wonderful stay for 1 night at the Almondy Inn. Evelyne, the innkeeper, is a gracious host and serves a delicious breakfast. She provdided the perfect balance between Newport guide and host while maintaining our privacy. Within walking distance to the main harbor, shops and restaurants. Having parking available as well was a huge convenience. We would definitely consider staying here again with our repective partners.

We had a near-perfect stay at the Almondy Inn. We stayed in the Plantation Room, which was very comfortable, if a bit overwhelmed by a large, very comfortable bed. The location is as good as it gets. Our hosts were very friendly, very helpful, and very accommodating (pun intended). Breakfast was delicious. When I declined a suggested meal, a fine alternative was cheerfully supplied. If we're ever in the area, we would certainly try to stay here again!

Evelyne & Herber Valkenberg are wonderful hosts. They are eager to please and are gracious and welcoming. Their B&B is located about two blocks away from shopping, restaurants and the waterfront. They're also only a 5 - 6 minute drive to the famous Cliff Walk. They offer offstreet parking, a quiet location, a very tasty breakfast, a nice wine and cheese hour where you can chat with them as well as their guests, and lovely amenities. If you're planning a stay in Newport you should definitely consider The Almondy Inn.

The best part was the breakfast. It was fabulous! The rooms we nice and we got to meet people from foreign countries. This was my first time in a bed and breakfast and I will be hard to match my experience.

Joe and I spent two nights at the Almondy Inn in Newport during the "heat wave" (last week of August, 2010). We had the Burgundy Suite, which was fabulous - superb 4-poster bed, tons of space, and great A/C. Evelynne, the owner, is an extremely gracious, multi-lingual, cultured woman - a delightful hostess, who makes you feel completely at home. The two women who work at the Inn are lovely, charming and helpful. The full breakfast is excellent - wine and cheese in the afternoon a perfect break in a busy sight-seeing day, and an opportunity to meet and talk with other guests (when we were there they ranged from 2 couples from Connecticut, to a lovely couple from Germany who were driving through New England). The Inn is 1/2 block up Pelham Street from Bannister's Wharf - close enough to walk to restaurants - far enough to feel you are in another, quieter, more relaxed world. We will definitely stay there again if we should return to Newport, which is very likely since we didn't get a chance to see all the Mansions, etc.

5/9/09--This was the first time my husband and I stayed in a B&B. Our experience at The Almondy Inn was nothing short of spectacular. The inn is conveniently located to wharves for great shopping and good eating. Our room had a very comfortable bed. Overall, the inn is very clean and elegant. Plus, parking is free in their driveway! Evelyn is a wonderful hostess and goes out of her way to make you feel at ease! We would definitely return again.
