Head to the White Mountains when they're green! Beautiful drives, great discount shopping (no sales tax), dramatic hiking, comfortable temperatures, and some of our all-time favorite inns make New Hampshire's North Conway area ideal for summer escapes.

Native American tradition explains that the Finger Lakes were created by the Great Spirit; the sixth lake was caused when his hand slipped. Today we credit glacial action, but either way, beautiful scenery abounds, with dramatic gorges and waterfalls to explore. Great wineries, too.

Just as each B&B is different, so is the question of tipping. Whether you stay in a B&B, inn, motel, or hotel, it's courtesy to leave $1 to $5 per night for the housekeepers; just leave the money on the dresser. The exact amount varies with the length of the stay, the price of the property, the size of the room, and the services rendered. Since many people are unaware of this practice, many innkeepers have taken to leaving tipping envelopes as a gentle reminder to guests, although there is no obligation to leave anything, especially if the housekeeping is not up to par. If the B&B is small, and the owners do the housekeeping themselves, tipping is generally unnecessary. Ask for details if you're not sure. Last but not least, remember that inns that include accommodations, breakfast, and dinner in the rates typically add a 15% service fee to the entire bill.
