This incredibly spacious palapa covers more than a 100 m2, including a sunny terrace with a table, umbrella and chairs, a fully equipped kitchen and a large bathroom. The penthouse features a King size bed with a romantic baldachin and a Mexican seat of tropical hardwood. There is WiFi connection for your laptop and a possibility to rent a bike that takes you to the beach in approximately 10 minutes, although a taxi will only cost you $1,50 USD. A dip in our refreshing pool is a wonderful extra feature we offer. The location may seem a little far at first, but the Ejido is becoming more and more popular among Playenses and tourists alike because of the cheap rental prices, the safety and the relative stillness compared to the tourist filled centre. The exact address is Calle 26 between Avenue 120 and 125. A delicious breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice and warm toast is included. We can provide you with lunch or dinner services upon request, as well as any trips or tours you wish to explore, from scuba diving to ruins site seeing, from Mexican dance shows to private yoga classes. Jazz off the beaten path ...

    June 07, 2012

We stayed at HACIENDA del  SOL during Playa del Carmen's yearly JazzFest, Fabulous ! We were there 10 days and everyday was a lovely surprise thanks to our wonderful hosts : Paula and Honza , they know their city well and guided us past that " just another tourist " phase very quickly, the great meals and attention to little details meant alot to us; like the pick-up service to & from the Cancun airport , our own little sunset picnic on a secure, but secluded beach , or a "Margarita cocktail " send off as you leave your apt. for an evening of fun ! Spacious, Safe, not pretencious, a perfect fit for the artistic soul, although maybe  not so much for the fancy " sticky-picky " types ....  All in all, we can say that : Hacienda del Sol is a really GREAT VALUE for  your  $ money $  investment !

    Hola Hacieda

    October 01, 2011

We stayed at the Hacienda el sol in August 2011. Honza and Paula were great hosts and the included breakfast was huge and included juice, coffee, youghurt, fruit, museli and a daily hot treat. We are foodies and we really enjoyed the freshness and quality of what was provided. The accommodation was huge. We did not cook but could have if we wanted too and Honza was happy to help out with anything you needed including doing your laundry which was quite expensive downtown. It was great to see how everyday life happened around where we were staying however having to deal with dishonest taxi drivers on a daily basis to get to the beach became a burden for us. The taxi fare should only have been 40 -50 pesos but we were often asked for 80-90 pesos. This of course is out of Paula and Honzas control so no reflection on them. We just felt that this part of Mexico was not the most authentic experience however the carribean was beautiful and our accommodation was priced really cheap for what we recieved. The little paradise

    May 04, 2011

I stayed in the Hacienda El Sol for 5 nights in middle of April. The place is exceptional. The room is spacious and airy. It is a lovely place for a couple. From the balcony I had a great view on the beautiful front yard with a huge tree. The room is also equipped with a fridge and a kitchenette for preparing small meals and coffee and additionally a potable water dispenser so you have always fresh and clean water. The bathroom is clean and spacious as well. The place is far enough away from the packed and busy party area so I had a pretty relaxing time with the privacy I wanted and without disturbance. Still the place is close enough to the beaches which can be easily reached within a short bike ride, by taxi or bus. The breakfast is prepared by Honza, Paula’s husband. It is incredibly good. I’m a hearty eater and he immediately figured out what size of breakfast I needed. I not only got the right size for surviving the day, it was also delicious. Fresh ingredients, organic coffee and handmade orange juice, it was perfect for me. The time for the breakfast could be arranged for each day to suit my variable travel plans during the day. Not only the place was superb, it was also always a pleasure to talk with Paula or Honza. They are kind hearted and worldly wise people and it is nearly impossible to find a topic to which they can’t contribute. I recommend this place to any traveler who wants enjoys a quiet and relaxing place distal to the overfilled hotel districts.

    A more than great week

    April 25, 2011

After travelling around through Mexico I arrived at Hacienda El Sol in the beginning of March. I already had met the lovely couple 2 years before but it was more than a warm welcome. Right away they make you feel at home. The house is beautifully decorated and made out of finest jungle wood you can image. Spending your time in the loft is no punishment. In fact the loft is a huge room, nicely decorated with hand crafted wooden furniture. The first night lying in the comfortable king size bed gave me a feeling of a little boy lost in space. How strange for a 1.93m Big Dutch guy of more than 100kg...? The room will support you in a pleasant stay giving you everything you need in one of the best places at the Mexican coast, Playa del Carmen. The owners are well know with personal development, energy, meditation, Yoga, and raising consciousness. I really would like to thank Paula and Honza for the great hospitality and for all the great hours talking about many spiritual topics (Mayan calendar, 2012, ascension, light workers, Yoga, Ayahuasca, and much more) With love Berry

    6 weeks in Paradise

    March 02, 2011

We stayed 6 weeks at B&B Hacienda El Sol, Jan 15- Feb 23, 2011. Hosts Paula and Honza were very kind and helpful. Upon arrival they offered Margueritas, cold and delicious...a perfect introduction to Mexico. Later that first evening Paula drove us to the local grocery store, whilst providing useful information re Playa del Carmen. They lent us bikes for beach excursions and shopping trips. Honza is a gourmet cook and we enjoyed a delightful repast of pasta and pork loin with a brimful bowl of spicy manifold-colored salad, complimented by ice-cold Mexican white wine, no charge. The palapa was huge with King-size bed and large bath and kitchen...very private; we were the only guests. We enjoyed morning coffee each day on our private deck with brightly-colored flowers and birds surrounding us, entertained by a variety of birdcalls and the sound of street merchants on bicycle calling out their wares. Paula is a talented bossa nova singer. We took in her show at a beachside hotel, the moon sparkling over the sea...very romantic. Our personal laundry was done by Honza, always ready the same day, no charge. If you're looking for something a little different, not regular tourist fare, we would highly recommend this place. We were a. 3 kms. from the beach and the main tourist area, in a Mexican neighbourhood, so got a taste of the real Mexico. A taxi costs only 250 mexican pesos, less than $2.50 cad, so getting around is no problem. Because we had our own kitchen we were able to prepare our own meals using local produce which is inexpensive and always fresh. We are not keen on eating out. On the negative side, because of it being a palapa, open on the eaves to the outdoors, it was sometimes a bit noisy at night, as Mexicans love to play their music loud and till late at night. Bring earplugs. All in all though, it was just what we expected, something different, but spicy, Mexican! J and C from Nova Scotia, Canada

    Does A Spirit Well!

    February 09, 2011

A great and affordable B & B, Paula and Honza are terrific hosts that will connect you with culture; the art, yoga, and music community of Playa Del Carmen. We were greeted with grapefruit margaritas and an evening of connecting conversations. Their hospitality continued through our stay. The room is a spacious rooftop bedroom with a rustic traditional palapa roof. Complete with refrigerator, coffee maker, and bar top, this room could easily fit several more people with sleeping bags. There is a private bathroom with plenty of hanging space and a private balcony. Honza and Paula own three friendly dogs that made me feel right at home. Each morning we woke to a bountiful breakfast complete with smoothie, coffee, a variety of breads, yogurt, cheese, and variations of egg dishes. It kept me full for the first half of my day's adventure. They loaned my boyfriend and I two bikes that we used to travel around and into downtown,( a 15 minute ride). The ride gave us a taste of a true Mexican neighborhood. To round it all out at the end of our stay I got to attend one of Paula's excellent yoga classes that she teaches. My only regrets are that we were so busy attending a wedding that we did not get to hang out with Paula and Honza more. These traveling transplants with years in Playa are the closest people I've met to living like "Eat, Pray, Love". It does a spirit well to be around them.
