Domaine du Moulin

  • Inn Details

Welcome to Domaine du Moulin, situated near Saint Laurent des Arbres, a medieval village that once belonged to the Popes of Avignon. You will find the property in the middle of the famous vineyards of Tavel, Lirac, Côte du Rhone, and Chateau-Neuf du Pape. Domaine du Moulin is classified by the Province du Gard as a "demeure classée", and awarded 4 'keys', dates back to the 13th century, is a magnificent spacious abode in the middle of a parc covering well over 4 hectares. The old water mill dates back to the 13th century, and sits atop the river Nizon, which still flows underneath the house all seasons long. The domain has been updated to offer modern comfort in typical provence style. The main house offers 5 rooms; All rooms have been beautifully renovated, and come with private bathrooms, airconditioning, tv, etc. It is in the old mill house where the apartment is located, equipped with updated kitchen and large living room. The apartment has a private entrance and is thus separated from the main house, and has three double bedrooms. The main house offers a large terrace overlooking the river Nizon, a large library area where you can leisure and relax. The surrounding private parc covers well over 4 hectares (10 acres), and offers fruit trees, weaping willows, olive trees, a beautiful alley of century-old plantanes, a vegetable garden as well as many flowers, including a small lavender field. Furthermore, you will find a pool of 17x6 metres, a pool house, several private terraces, and a pond with terrace for picknicking or barbeque.

Everything exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for history, linens, furnishings and antiques, a library, cupid rod iron statues, a river running under your french windows, an owner who prefers nature over luxury but has it all, a lavender garden, the tour of a 15th century mill in the basement...breakfast on the patio overlooking both the river and the pool. Oh, the pool. A sleepy french medieval town with one restaurant that you can walk to..seems deserted at night..the most spectacular drive in a convertible to Uzes to catch the farmers market, stopping for the tasty pizza at the Pizza cart on the way back..Drive down to the "big city" of Avignon for some real excitement...and, best of all, if you get lost....no one speaks English!! This is the best chateau in the world. We would move there if we could..!

We have stayed at Domaine du Moulin twice. Each time we stayed for a week, first with friends & the following year with family. All of us found the wecome gracious & helpful & the setting charming & would not consider staying anywhere else in the region. MM Australia.
