General InformationNestled among large, shady oak trees in the center of a large city block, The Calvert Inn was built between 1904 and 1906, entirely of native cypress and is now in one of the states largest National Historic Districts. It was the home of the Pete Gibson Family, one of two brothers who owned the world's largest cotton gin. The home was remodeled in the 1920's and was enhanced by 1000 square feet of double gallery porches as well as Waterford and Baccarat crystal chandeliers.
Porch swings, rockers, lush gardens complete with a charming koi pond and fountain in the front circle drive area, invite you to stay close to the house. Inside, the eight coal burning fireplaces, beautiful grand piano once owned by famous concert pianist, Lawrence Meredith, and other fine appointments add to the romantic ambiance.
