General Information

The Rio Dolphin Inn is a small but quality guest house in the nicest part of Rio, between Copacabana and Ipanema. We are situated in a quaint and charming vila of a dozen houses and are just blocks from the city's best beaches, restaurants, stores and bars/cafes, markets, bookstores, juice bars, banks, cinemas. Bus lines and a subway pass right in front of the vila, so you can get anywhere and back with ease.

We pride ourselves on offering personalized attention and being hospitable, clean and safe. We, the caretakers, John and Nina, love Rio and enjoy sharing our knowledge with visitors. (John came here for a week and has now been here 25 years; Nina was lucky enough to have born here). We'll steer you right and lead you to the best beaches, restaurants, stores, etc.

We are small; we have just three rooms, but we offer modern facilities and comforts such as Wifi access, AC and fan in each room, cable TV with international channels, high quality beds and pillows, modern kitchen with free bottled water, herbal teas and coffee. Entering Rio Dolphin Inn is like stepping into the bottom of the ocean. That is if the ocean is filled with fascinating decorations and zany things from around the world. Visitors use all kinds of words to describe Rio Dolphin Inn and the Cozy Corner: beach house, zen temple, play pen, nature/cultural museum. We just call it home.

If you enjoy staying in a cozy but modern guest house, one that feels like home and just makes you want to kick off your shoes and relax, or go out and have some fun, you’ve come to the right place.

We're new, so we don't have many reviews, but check out the few we have on TripAdvisor and on this site, and we think you'll get an idea of what we offer. You may find cheaper places to stay, and you can certainly find more expensive ones, but we honestly don't think you'll get a better deal.

  The Dolphin Room and The Little Prince Room are charming rooms located upstairs in the Rio Dolphin Inn. The Dolphin Room comes with a queensize and single bed, AC, and ceiling fan, while the Little Prince Room has AC and fan, a queen-size and a single bed. Both rooms can sleep three comfortably. The rooms share a bathroom. There are pictures of the Dolphin Room and the Little Prince Room (third row) to the right of this text.
  
  The Cozy Corner is located in the building just in front of Rio Dolphin Inn vila. It can sleep four persons and has a bedroom, living room (with double sofa-bed), kitchenette, bathroom, AC and ceiling fan and cable TV. There is internet access as well. There are two photos of the Cozy Corner on the fourth row.
  
  For security reasons, visitors are not permitted in the rooms.
  
  During New Years and Carnival, our rates increase as they do in all hotels and inns in Rio de Janeiro.

  It's not that we're cheap or lazy, but we are surrounded by about a dozen Brazilian juice and acai bars, cafes and breakfast-serving bistros. We think getting out for breakfast in Ipanema or Copacabana is a great way to sample local delicacies, meet native Cariocas (as well as other travelers), and get into the local culture. And you can pick a different place and type of breakfast each day.

  We are on the border between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, at the corner of Rua Francisco Sa. When you come to Rio, whether it’s for a few days or a lifetime, you want to be near Copacabana or Ipanema. With Rio Dolphin Inn you get both. While most of Rio’s neighborhoods such as Santa Teresa, Lapa, Botafogo, Urca and downtown are fascinating and worthy of a visit, only Ipanema and Copacabana have it all. Rio is a huge city--12 million people—and though it is fun to visit these other neighborhoods and attractions, you really want to stay in a place that is centrally located, where there are cool neighborhoods to explore, where you can walk out at night and visit local restaurants, cafes and bars, where it’s fun to get around on foot or bike, and where—perhaps most important-- you are by the beach. In this case, you actually have your choice of four beaches within a few minutes walk from Rio Dolphin Inn: Copacabana, Ipanema, Diabo and Arpoador. What more could you want?

  It's about a 30-minute taxi ride, or an hour+ bus ride, from the airport to Ipanema/Copacabana where the Rio Dolphin Inn is located. We know a reliable driver who will do a transit from the airport to the Rio Dolphin Inn for R$60 (about US$30), which is just a little more than a regular taxi, IF the taxis don't take you for a spin. We strongly recommend this, as he will meet you in the terminal and deliver you straight to the Rio Dolphin Inn. It couldn't be easier.
