Belgian Mussels

Total preparation time:  10 minutes
Serves:  2

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg Fresh mussels
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 stalk Celery
  • 1 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper

Steps:

  1. Dice the onion, carrot and celery.
  2. In a pot over medium heat, sautée diced vegetables in the olive oil.
  3. Turn up heat to high, add the kilogram of fresh mussels and pepper to the vegetables. Stir together quickly and cover the pot.
  4. Check after 3 minutes if the mussels have opened. Once open, they are ready.
  5. Serve mussels with their cooking liquid in large bowls. Traditionally they are served with Belgian fries and mayonnaise.
