This week we saw an edition of 'Escape to the country' on BBC entertainment, taped at Castle Howard. It reminded us instantly of the pleasant time we spent there. In september 2009 we had our wedding trip through the UK, from Edinburgh to London. We crossed Yorkshire and stayed at Welburn Lodge . After we booked it on the internet, we instantly got a really nice mail back from Stella, with a few attached PDF files mentioning restaurants, places of interest and places to visit on our way. We arrived late in the afternoon, and the first thing we noticed was the Dutch flag hanging out!… What a nice way of giving a warm welcome! As said on the website, the front room is directly on a very busy road, that leads from York to Scarborough (A 64) For a moment we were worried about the noise, but there is no need: during the night it is really quiet and the room has double glass bay windows. Being at Wellburn Lodge immediately felt like a warm bath: after our late arrival, we had to find ourselves a place to eat. Stella called a befriended pub owner in Welburn and although the pub was booked for a major private party, she managed to arrange that we could eat something anyhow. The next morning, Steve introduced us to the other guests, which is nice, because you really have to deal with eachother in the relatively small breakfastroom. Breakfast is very good and Stella can make you whatever you wish. On our wedding trip we stayed at eight places in total, but Welburn Lodge was the best place of the entire trip. The house is lovely, the people are adorable and the surroundings a true delight. It's impossible to get any closer to Castle Howard: we could see it from our window. In case we ever go back to that part of the UK, we will definitely book rooms at Welburn Lodge again! Stella and Steve, after almost two years, we are still grateful to you!

Great location, hosts could not have more welcoming and helpful. They even put the heating on early and got up extra early to cook breakfast so we could go on a Railway trip very early in the morning. Lovely furnishings and decor, chocolates on our arrival. We would definately recommend and return to Welburn Lodge. Thanks to Stella and Steve who have hgit the right note on a luxury B & B. Paulene Chelmsford

What else can be said about this place after reading other reviews I booked a few days away as an aniversary treat for my wife. The host's Steve and Stella cold not do enough to make our stay as relaxing as possible it felt more like visiting relatives than staying in a hotel. their knowledge of the area is very helpfull for walks, local pubs and attractions. The full breakfast sets you up for the rest of the day. This is BB is a peace of old england that should remain a secret but then that would be unfair to everyone else. My wife is fussy beyond belief but we intend to book up again for another visit.
