Follow Old King's Highway through the woods, past half a dozen ponds, to the line with Truro, the neighboring town. Green Getaways/eco Escapes

We don't understand why every bed & breakfast is not an eco-friendly inn. It makes such sense, what with global warming. Chez Sven has been green for the past two years. The unexpected benefit has been the guests we attract, lovely people like Mark Vian who wrote this comment: "Chez Sven is a one of those places that give one hope that the world's great places might yet be experienced but not despoiled--part of the promise of ecotourism. If all Cape Cod B&Bs were operated like this one --with a serious understanding of and real concern for their environmental impact-- the pressure on the fragile ecosystem there would be greatly reduced. As ecologists, my wife and I make our vacation plans with these concerns in mind. We spent almost a week at Chez Sven last year, and over this past winter made reservations to return for another week this year. Sandy and Sven do a great job of balancing hospitality and respect for your privacy, which is key with the intimacy of a bed and breakfast. Their commitment to green principles is documented thoroughly at their excellent website-- http://chezsven.com/environment.html --so I won't detail all that here. I will say it distinguished their operation from others on the Cape for us .... This is how we would run a B&B."

History Buff's Special

If you love history, Chez Sven is the B & B for you. Our house provides a direct connection to America's past. The house has floorboards up to 16 inches wide and a bean pot cellar. As cottages are torn down around us to make way for trophy houses, our antique home becomes more and more unusual. Tucked away behind a row of ancient cedar trees, Chez Sven offers views of Old King’s Highway, a scenic road, unpaved as in colonial times. If you close your eyes, you can imagine the “old” king’s representative traveling along the “highway” to collect taxes. Under the joists, Sven found a Lady Liberty penny, which we will be glad to show you. (For photos of the house taken in 1903, see the WELLFLEET'S OLDEST HOUSES link on the Liberty Coin page of our Web site.) At Chez Sven, however, we also specialize in Russian history, as Sandy’s grandfather was in charge of Tsar Nicholas II’s escort. Her parents wrote Private World of the Last Tsar, based on Granddad's diaries. Finally, when it comes to history, Sven is like a walking encyclopedia. He taught European for many years in Sweden and France, but his current interest is the war with Vietnam. Needless to say, our library is full of history books, which can be perused at your leisure. Romance Packages

Chez Sven’s secluded Seagull Cottage is ideal for lovebirds looking for a romantic getaway. Upon arrival, a chilled bottle of champagne awaits you. A single red rose lies across the queen-sized bed. The only sound will be the chickadees fussing at the feeder, out on the deck. Relax in front of the fireplace or take a long walk with your sweetie on one of Wellfleet’s spectacular deserted beaches. Once you get home, soak in the soaking tub and treat your skin to exciting skincare products from Trillium Organics. You will find the refrigerator stocked for breakfast. Use the kitchen to whip up a gourmet feast. Savor the total privacy. A couple of our Spring 2005 guests enjoyed Chez Sven’s Seagull Cottage so much that they came back a month later and he proposed. While we cannot guarantee the same result, we are quite sure Seagull Cottage will work its magic on you, too. The Romantic Getaway costs only $375 for two nights of heaven.
