The Earnest House is designed in the reminiscent of the early houses of the Valley of Virginia where one frequently finds combinations of log, half timber and stone in one building; each construction type representing a time period in the history of the structure. The main living area contains a living and dining room with a wood burning fireplace and a complete kitchen. There is a separate spacious bedroom with a king bed, gas log fireplace and French doors opening on to the creek to the rear of the home. The bathroom has a large jetted tub with separate shower.

The Justice Cabin is really a one bedroom home unto itself. It has a quaint kitchenette, living room with wood burning fireplace and a separate dining alcove. The cozy queen bedroom is located upstairs with windows opening on to the creek below. As in all the suites, there is a gas log fireplace and jetted tub with shower. When the Justice cabin is rented with the Earnest House and Elizabeth’s Room, one can roam freely between the living spaces as this cabin becomes a three bedroom, three bathroom escape. This cabin has a discounted rate when rented with the Earnest House as a three bedroom.

Like the Justice cabin, the Tavern itself is essentially a one bedroom house. It has a full country kitchen down stairs opening in to a large living and dining room with a wood burning fireplace. The living area opens on to a large covered porch with an outdoor dining area also with a wood burning fireplace. The king bedroom, upstairs, is furnished in period antiques and has a private sitting area beside the fireplace. The jetted tub with shower in the bath is almost perched among the trees with a view of the creek below.

The Blacksmith Shop again is a one bedroom, one bath suite. The bedroom has a king four poster bed with a dinette and a gas log fireplace. There are French doors that open directly on to a rear porch and creek. The large bath has a jetted tub with shower with beautiful views of the woods and creek below. There is a small kitchenette and a large step-in closet. The Blacksmith Shop may be rented with the Tavern House to create a two bedroom cabin. A three bedroom cabin is created by adding the Lamon’s Cabin. This cabin suite has a discounted rate when rented with the Tavern House.

The Lamon’s Cabin is a pine bedroom and one bath suite with a charming porch over looking the creek. It has a spacious king bedroom with an antique cupboard converted into a kitchenette and a gas log fireplace. All the modern appliances are carefully hidden to keep the country charm intact. The bathroom is a large room with double sinks; a jetted tub with shower is placed in the picture window overlooking the creek below. The Lamon’s Cabin may be rented with the Tavern House to create a two bedroom cabin or as a three bedroom cabin by adding the Blacksmith Shop as well at a discounted rate.

The Captain's House has a ground floor kitchen, living and dining area with a wood burning fireplace and a front porch looking out on the lower pond. The king bedroom is upstairs with a gas log fireplace and has an extraordinary view of the lake. One can be in bed in the morning and watch the sun rise over the lake. There is often a mist rising from the water in the mornings. The bathroom has a shower and a jetted tub. The tub sits beneath a set of large windows so one can soak in the tub and look out on the lake.

The Fish Cabin may be the best room on the property. It has two large sets of French doors that open on to the Inn's private fish pond up next to the house. There is a wooden spillway that empties the pond. The water rushes down the spillway and over the hill which creates the continual sound of a waterfall. It is quite charming. There is a small kitchenette off of the king bedroom with gas log fireplace and dinette. There is also a very large shower and a jetted tub in the spacious bath. Renting this cabin with the Captain's house makes a wonderful two bedroom, two bath cabin.

My husband and I had a delightful couple of days at this inn. Beautiful room, fantastic breakfast and hors d'oeuvres, and a lovely setting. The chef catered to my specific food allergy with special dishes just for me, and also recommended some great restaurants. The surrounding area is incredible with many hiking trails and waterfalls.

This is a wonderful in located on a small lake. The rooms are lovely, clean and most have private decks to enjoy coffee or cocktails. Many of the rooms not in the main house have transom windows which can let in more light at night than desired. If you have trouble sleeping if it's not pitch dark, you may want to ask about rooms that don't have the transom windows. That's the only issue we had with this lovely place. We've stayed here 3 times after staying at several other B&B's in the area - searching for the right level of comfort, seclusion and proximity to Highlands. The breakfasts are delicious and creative. Stuffed french toast, baked eggs and other breakfast treats as well as choices of yogurt and cereal if you like a lighter breakfast. They have a wine and cheese hour in the evening and it's a great way to meet the other guests and chat. They always have a selection of home made cookies as well as water, soft drinks and packaged snacks. The inn is very close to Highlands which is very convenient on those dark nights on winding mountain roads driving back from dinner or entertainment.
A long overdue couples getaway

It's hard to take the time and spend the money (especially in this economy) to get away as a couple. But it couldn't have been money or time better spent. Our room (Winter Garden Falls) was awesome - fireplace, jetted tub, private balcony, his and her robes, high-quality linens. The cost of our room included wine and hors d'oeuvres before dinner and a gourmet breakfast. I think they pride themselves on over-feeding you, so pack your appetite! Not to mention 4 flavors of cookies in the house living room, plus coffee and hot tea. We chose to stay at the Inn for dinner as well - another great value - gourmet food with wine included. Last but not least, the staff were amazing - we refer to them as our our new friends! If you choose to leave the Inn for dinner, there are other amazing eats, such as the Log Cabin Restaurant, Ruka's Table, Flip Side, etc. We also enjoyed hiking Glenn Falls waterfall. (Be prepared to sweat if you go all the way.) We had such an amazing visit and plan to make this "our special place" for getaways in the future.
Unforgettable!
