Josephine's RoomAli's Room.In celebration of the greatest athelete of the 20th century,Muhammad Ali, and for his heroic stand against the war in Vietnam.
Ella's Room. For Ella Fitzgerald;she was ophaned at an early age and moved to Yonkers, where she got in trouble with the police and was sent to reform school, from which she escaped. She made her singing debut at the Apollo Theater. She performed with Louis Armstrong,Count Basie and Duke EllingtonThis is the livingroom part of the Renaissance Suite. This suite includes Ali's room and Ella's room,a kitchen and bathroom. There is a sofa/bed in the livingroom,so this space can accomadate 3 couples. It is the entire top floor of the Townhouse. There are 3 sky lights, which accounts for the bright light through the archway.
Duke'S Place. In celebration of Duke Ellington who lived on Sugar Hill. This is our reception room and function room. There is a kitchen through that white door, that leads to a bio sustainable garden. We can rent this space for weddings, showers, parties, concerts, poetry and play readings. In the spring we will be giving home brewing lessons,so get ready!Satchmo's room.Named for the late great Louis Armstrong, born in New Orleans on July 4th 1900.He took what was a collective folk music and turned it into an art form with tremendous possibilities, for individual expression. This room comes with a king-size bed, extra large bathroom, separate shower and tub,and an outside deck
Lena's room is named for Lena Horne, singer and actress. She was the first African American to sign a long-term contract with a major Hollywood studio. This room is the most elaborately designed room in the house, feminine and romantic.Miles' room, for Miles Davis, one of the most innovative and influential musicians of the 20th century. He was at the forefront of every major development in jazz after World War 11.This room has a queen-size bed,a private kitchen and bathroom.
This is a bio sustainable garden. All the soil is made from compost. This summer,we planted corn, sunflowers, chile peppers and tobacco. We did not use any hybrid seeds. This is the shaded part of our garden.Everything here was found, either in a nearby building demolition site,or from the woods in the Catskills. We took all this organic decaying matter and rearanged it in this narrow passage way to recreate the floor of the woods
