General InformationGlenfield Plantation is a picturesque cottage-villa in the midst of wild landscape and the home of Marjorie F. Meng, fourth generation. On the National Register of Historic Places, this brick English Gothic is from a period around 1845, and parts of the house are thought to have been constructed around 1812. There is an air of substantial comfort in the house with its double halls and galleries in front and back, features which realize the idea of simplicity and breadth. The back porches enclosed with hand-hewn blinds are also used for a summer dining room.
Three ground-floor bedrooms grace the Plantation, each with a private bath, fireplace and antiques throughout. You may choose from two double, a double and a single, or one queen bed in the three delicately appointed rooms. Historic artifacts say much about the house, including a charred spinning wheel saved from a house set afire by the Indians or the bullet hole in the right front door from the Civil War. Medals and buttons have even been found in the backyard, bearing evidence of this fact!
Glenfield Plantation offers a continental or full Southern breakfast for guests with all the trimmings. After your meal, you may wish to savor a second cup of coffee and plan your day's activities. Biking and hiking are not far from the house. Nearby, visitors can pass the time with tennis, golf or swimming. March and October bring the Antebellum Tour of Homes, but most homes are open year round. Balloon races in October are visible from the grounds and the house is one mile from riverboat gaming as well as Natchez under the Hill. Mardi Gras parades and balls are always festive during the season.
