Perhaps the most extraordinary guest chamber in Newport. This 1500 square foot suite--the entire third floor--has five rooms, including two bedrooms, a spectacular wood panneled library with reading area, fireplace and media center, a "bathing salon," kitchen/dining room, a marble bathroom, spiral staircase and Newport views from dormer windows in four directions. Hidden in the library are secret passageways and compartments--one of which leads to the bathing salon. This ornate and nostalgic room features a two-person whirlpool tub fitted into a rich wood paneled deck surround, Victorian marble floor, heated towel bars, a unique lighting system with 18 individual lights on dimmers and a dormer window with distant harbor and bay views--"above and beyond" downtown Newport.

Victoria
A large multi-room, sun-drenched suite on the second-floor with 10-foot high ceilings and tall windows. The front bedroom has a king-size Victorian mansion bed, a large marble-and-book-surrounded fireplace and an airy bay window, which wraps around a two-person whirlpool tub. A connecting passageway opens into a large sitting room with sofa, chairs and large fireplace. The room features a stunning, one-of-a-kind antique, built-in Victorian mirror cabinet from the estate of the founding family of the Stride Rite Shoe Company. The rooms are served by a media center with cable TV, VCR, CD player and built-in multi-speaker stereo throughout. There is also a large, separate marble bathroom with a two-person steam bath and heated towel rack.

Vanity Fair
This large first-floor suite with 11-foot high ceilings has three rooms framed by arch-top windows and unfolds from the front of the inn to the back. The bedroom has an ornate king-size Duke of Marlboro bed, cozy bay window reading area, period antiques and cable TV. Down a hallway is another bay window-filled room with a two-person whirlpool tub surrounded in marble, that faces a large, two-sided fireplace. On the other side of the fireplace, is a comfortable sitting room with a media center featuring a six-speaker stereo system, CD player, cable TV and VCR. French doors lead to a separate bathroom equipped with a two-person, marble steam bath.

A sunny, south-facing state room with four tall floor-to-high ceiling windows, king-size Bedford four-poster bed, fireplace, concealed media center with cable TV, VCR, CD player and built-in speakers, and marble bath with double whirlpool tub, hand shower and heated towel rack.

This room is decorated with paintings by legendary Newport artist Beatrice Turner, whose enigmatic life was a metaphor for the depression and the World War II era (1929-1946), when the age of gilt and glitter collapsed. Included is a never-before-publicly displayed door panel with painted flowers from Beatrice's room at her Newport mansion.

The room is decorated with memorabilia from the surprising life of the young and attractive colonial widow Abigail Stoneman, who in 1766 became Newport's first woman entrepreneur -- opening a tea room, coffee house, provision shop and two inns.

The Abigail Stoneman Inn sits on an historic street in Newport's Historic Hill area. It was designed by renowned architect George Champlin Mason in 1866. It is three doors from Touro Synagogue (the oldest in America), two doors from the Historical Society and two blocks from Newport's harbor, restaurants and shops.
