General Information

The Artful Lodger is a bright and airy Victorian built in 1850 located in the Mansion District, and centrally located within 5 minutes from downtown Newport's shopping and dining area. We guarantee you private off-street parking, private baths with all rooms and suites, and an exquisite gourmet breakfast in our conservatory overlooking the Newport Harbor. Our warmest welcome! When you stay with us, you will be neighboring "The Elms," a Newport mansion owned by the infamous robber baron, E. J. Berwind. The mansion is famous for its sunken gardens and lavish parties (even in present day). The secret coal tunnel designed by the coal magnate is steps away from our front door. It was used for discreetly transporting fuel for the first electric lights of the turn of the century elite's "summer cottages."
