Review Halcyon Farm Bed & Breakfast, Amsterdam, NY

Photo Album

Summer is hay making season at Halcyon Farm. This view is from the front lawn.Halcyon Room: Relax back in this comfortable, high king sized bed and look out the three large windows which provide a bucolic view of rolling hay fields. The fully adjustable lights at each bedside make reading in bed a dream. In winter keep cozy with a gas fireplace and fluffy down duvet; in summer stay cool with in room air-conditioning, cotton sheets and matelasse coverlet. Antique desk, love seat, oak armoire, family memorabilia, private bathroom.
The Rose Room, located on the second floor, has a Victorian flair with gorgeous rose wallpaper, handsome dark antique furniture and its own private bath. The high, queen sized, cannon ball bed is dressed with pure cotton linens, a warm down duvet in winter and flanked by fully adjustable reading lights. The imposing Eastlake armoire dates from the early 1900s. A charming gas fireplace and wing chair provide a cozy reading area. A desk and dataport are available for your business and computer needs. An aerobed is available for an extra person. The Voorhees Room, named for the original owner and builder of this 1790 Federal brick home is located on the first floor. The room has antique cannonball twin beds and is carpeted. Fully adjustable blinds provide privacy. Morning sunlight glows off of the cheerful garden style wallpaper. A charming gas fireplace and comfortable couch provide a cozy reading area. A desk and dataport are available for your business and computer needs. The Voorhees Room has a private bathroom which is fully tiled. Full Kohler shower & tub combination, pedestal sink, medicine cabinet, antique chest and hair dryer. The window has fully adjustable shutters for privacy.
A delicious breakfast may be served in this spacious kitchen eating area which overlooks the valley. A unique selection of antique baskets hang from the vaulted ceiling. Chat with June and John as they prepare a delicious meal. Some guest favorites include vegetable-sausage strata, blueberry muffins, chili cheese puff, fresh red raspberries with cream, John's famous cornbread and June's world renowned buttermilk blueberry pancakes.Large groups will be served a delicous gourmet breakfast at the cherry dining table. The unusual and intricately carved fireplace mantel is original. Antique glass sconces provide a soft glow for intimate breakfast gatherings and several cherished family paintings decorate the walls. Enjoy the view of the valley from three large windows.
Hidden Room: guests comment on their wonderful sleep in the lovely queen four-poster Ethan Allen bed with Stearns & Foster pillow top mattress. A curved settee & wing chair provide a comfortable area to sit or watch TV. Waverly fabrics & wallpaper decorate the bedroom & new ceramic tiled bathroom. Kohler fixtures include a large glass corner shower & pedestal sink. Enjoy both air-conditioning & gas fireplace. Years ago, this spacious but unfinished “hidden” room was mysteriously walled off from the upstairs hall & accessible only through a circuitous back staircase. Purportedly the room served as a stop on the underground railroad. The guest living room is solely for the use of our guests! Guests enjoy playing the piano, or chatting with friends. For those who wish to watch TV, we have satellite access and a DVD collection. Or simply relax by the fireplace in the adjoining library with a good book.
Elegant Schumacher magnolia wallpaper sets the tone for this restful, spacious bedroom appropriately named the Magnolia Room. A Stickley four-poster king sized bed with a Stearns and Foster pillow top mattress is the featured piece. Recline on the antique chaise and take in the verdant view from three large windows which overlook shade trees and fields. In summer stay cool with in room air-conditioning, cotton sheets and Williamsburg matelasse coverlet. Amenities include antique desk, wicker love seat and chair, gas fireplace. New private bathroom is fully tiled with Kohler shower, pedestal sink. Soak in the bubble tub and gaze out the octagonal window above.
