General InformationThis comfortable, antiques-filled B&B on a quiet street in Cambridge's Avon Hill conservation district, 1 mile north of Harvard Square, 500 yards to Harvard's Quad Houses & CfA Observatory, and 6 minute walk to Porter Square restaurants and Red Line subway "T"/commuter rail station, offers big rooms, great beds, free computer use and/or in room high speed remote access cable internet, healthy home-cooked breakfasts, shady bird-filled gardens--a perfect retreat after a busy day. The 1910 stucco home belonged to L'il Abner cartoonist Al Capp in the 60s.

Blueberry pancakes are made from blueberries grown on our Cape Cod farm, and are served with real maple syrup. Other favorites include vegetable fritattas, orange French toast, Texan 'Migas', blueberry or orange-cranberry muffins, or dry or hot cereals, yogurt, cheeses and fruit, if you prefer simpler fare. Always great coffee, wide selection of teas, juices and fruits.

- Deposit amount required (One night's deposit, or a credit card number to hold the reservation, required.)
- Check in time is preagreed time and Check out time is noon from room
- Cancellations:
Deposit is completely refundable for cancellation with two weeks or more notice. Less than two weeks notice, deposit is refunded if the room can be filled.

Avon Hill St. is just north of Linnaean Street, at the north edge of Harvard University's Quad Houses, near Harvard Observatory, and Harvard Law School. From Porter Sq./Red Line T, walk 4 blocks west on Upland Road (6 minute walk, 1/3 mile) to left onto Avon Hill St. #82 is 6th house on left, with grey picket fence above a 2 car garage. Massachusetts Ave. shops and restaurants are an easy walk. Harvard Square is just one mile, a 15 minute walk. Detailed driving instructions from any direction on request. Free parking. - Nearest major airport: BOS 8 miles

Take Silver Line bus from all terminals to South Station, change to Red Line toward Alewife to Porter Square. Driving: Follow signs to Ted Williams Tunnel, and Mass Pike-I-90 West. Go about 6 miles, til exit 20 for Cambridge. Bear right at exit following signs for Cambridge. Turn left along the river onto Storrow Drive, exit at sign for Harvard Square..cross bridge and go straight on JFK street, through Harvard Square, bearing left after Square, following signs for Mass Ave. north (right hand side of left split). In 7 lights, you'll see big red mobile at Porter Square T station. Turn left onto Upland Rd. and go 4 blocks to Avon Hill St. Left to #82, 6th on left.

Blue Magruder and husband John Hurwitch are both Harvard graduates. Blue has recently retired as Director of Public Affairs for the nonprofit Earthwatch Institute, which sponsors scientific field research worldwide, and the house is filled with folk art from her travels. John, a retired healthcare consultant, is a former champion one-design sailor,& collector of maritime books. - The innkeepers speak: English, French, Spanish
