Inn Details
AN ENGLISHMANS HOME IN DOWNTOWN TORONTO The owner Geoffrey Pimblett is very much like John Cleese and Pimblett'Rest is a veritable 'Fawlty Towers'. Also known as the 'End House' this 1860's home is located right downtown Toronto in the historical area known as Cabbagetown. Restored to provide all mod-cons and comforts, modern plumbing, central heating, & air conditioning and a conversion from gas to electric lighting. Most of the old world charm has been retained. The Victorian Kitchen with its coke stove, washer and mangle. The Wallnut Panelled Breakfast Room displaying the owners collection of tea pots. The Library with its British and American literature, mahogony fireplace and more tea pots. The Front Hall with its resplendant French Ormalou Chrystal Chandelier and 1890's Jaques & Hayes Coat Stand and a dinner gong. Each Bedroom has its own charm, using many out of print wallpapers and certainly out of date furnishings. There are three rooms to choose from; The Agatha Christie Room, The Queen Mothers Front bedroom, and The Butlers Back Bedroom with a view of the back yard.

The place was kind of wild. It is chock full of antiques and curious stuff. The owner and staff was very friendly. If you are a neat freak, this place is not for you. The bathroom sink, tub, and toilet were perfectly clean, that's important to me. The rest of the place is cluttered, but interesting. The area is ok, but not great. It cost half of what a Marriot would have.

Our visit to Toronto was made especially memorable with our stay at this cute little place. It's not the largest B&B, but our room had a private bathroom and comfortable lodgings for the same price we could have paid at a modest hotel. The breakfast is fabulous -- pancakes, eggs, bacon, potatoes, orange juice -- and Geoffrey is a delightful host. The location is very convenient with easy access to the Metro system and the tram. Definitely worth every penny!

I loved my stay at Pimblett's, and would like to thank Geoffrey for his hospitality and friendliness. I plan on staying here again when I return to Toronto. It's near everything, and one block from the transit lines. The neighborhood is safe, so going back and forth at night was no trouble. Thanks much!
