The inn dates back to 1825 when it was built as a homestead for John Pierce Jr., nephew of Franklin Pierce, the 14th president of the United States.

He received the honor of Chef of the Year in 1994. Kathe enjoys gardening and quilting. Her quilts can be seen throughout the inn.
