General Information

Approaching this circa 1850 French Chateau with mansard roof you will notice a placard on the front of the building with the name Charles Hertich and the date 1850. Dr. Charles Hertich, one of Ste. Genevieve's first full time physicians, purchased this property in 1850 for the sum of $1,800.00. At that time, only the northern portion of the structure existed. The southern portion was completed at a later date. The building served both as the Hertich family home and as an office for the physician. The exterior of the building looks much as it did in the 1850s, but the interior was totally and lovingly renovated in 1999. As you raise the latch on the wooden gate at the northeast corner of the property, your eyes are immediately drawn to the door through which members of the Ste. Genevieve community entered for their appointments with Dr. Hertich. Although the door is no longer functional, it bears the etched H that now serves as the logo for Dr. Hertich's House. As you step up and to your left you encounter the long covered front porch. The porch, with a warmth and charm of its own, affords one of the best views of Main Street. Also captured in your gaze from this viewpoint is the elegant and stately Inn St. Gemme Beauvais just across the street. The sounds of light classical music playing in the background are heard as you enter the front door to the house. Standing in the main hallway, you are directly in front of the staircase with its original turned spindles and mahogany banister. The ambiance is further enhanced by ceiling fans and the exquisite selection of wall covering, carpeting, and hardwood that graces the first floor hall. A desk, antique chairs, and telephone are available for guest use. The first floor houses two luxury accommodations, the Ste. Genevieve and Family Ties Suites, and one Queen Room, The Doctor¿s Room. The second floor houses two luxury accommodations, the Good Sports and Love Notes Suites.

Check-in is conducted at The Inn St. Gemme Beauvais. From Cape Girardeau (One hour): Take I-55 north to exit 150. Turn right onto highway 32 and proceed approximately 8 miles. At 61 (stop light) 32 becomes 4th Street. Proceed on 4th Street to stop sign (Market Street). Turn right onto Market to stop sign (Main Street). Turn left onto Main Street and continue approximately 1/8 mile to 78 N. Main Street. Check-in is conducted at The Inn St. Gemme Beauvais.
