General InformationPraised by one national publication as "a flawless urban hideaway," Governor's House is a magnificent National Historic Landmark reflecting Charleston's civility and grandeur. As Southern Living magazine discovered, "Check into the Governor's House Inn and you may never want to check out." Over 200 years ago, this elegant Inn (circa 1760) was the home of Governor Edward Rutledge, youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. Today, the former Governor's mansion is one of Charleston's most historic and stately bed and breakfast inns, the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. The Inn has been acclaimed as "Charleston's most glamorous and sophisticated inn." (Travel Holiday) Guests at Governor's House enjoy 12' ceilings, nine fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, family antiques, king or queen 4-poster beds, original hardwood floors, whirlpool baths, private porches and available suites. Ideally situated in the heart of the Historic District, the Inn is within walking distance of garden and house tours, the Battery, antique shopping, the Old Market, and fine restaurants.
