Holmes County, rich in history, will be brought to life as you tour our western hills. Remote and rural, these lands hold the exciting story of one of the most significant news events of 1863 during the American Civil War!
Book now for a comfortable, climate-controlled, narrated driving tour of Holmes County; the tour beginning at the 28-room Victorian House in Millersburg, taking you to small villages and points of interest such as Briarhill Stone Quarry, Potter Artisans, and other rural businesses. Along the way you will travel and learn the history of Ohio's first State Road, Port Washington Road. A tour highlight is the uncovering of the 1863 story of "The Holmes County Rebellion", the story of a newly-settled French community faced with the difficulties of the American Civil War, issues of secession, Copperheads, Peace Democrats, and a conflict with Union Troops as they ascend into Napoleon, today the town of Glenmont. Retrace the Union Troop path as you hear the story of this historic event! Your tour will conclude with a memorable dining experience in the Historic Hotel Millersburg, formerly a State Coach Inn!
