Alte Welt Gasthof Tea Cakes

This recipe is well over 100 years old and has won several awards at county fairs.

Ingredients:

• 4 cups Flour
• 2 cup Sugar
• 2 Eggs
• 1/2 cup Buttermilk
• 1 cup Shortening
• 1/2 teaspoon Salt
• 1 teaspoon Soda
• 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract (or favorite flavour)

Steps:

1. Pre heat oven to 375 degrees
2. Sift flour into a large pan. Pat out a well in the middle of the flour and put the rest of the ingredients into the well.
3. Bind ingredients together and kneed dough by hand. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes with cookie cutter.
4. Bake until done.
