General Information

Built in 1790, the Governor's Bed and Breakfast is situated on two landscaped acres in the Milton Historic District An excellent local adaptation of a Southern colonial mansion, it was built by John Hazzard who according to National Military Archives piloted George Washington across the Delaware. His son, David, was governor of Delaware between 1830 and 1833. Guests can enjoy the veranda and the grounds for leisure conversation and reading. Fully restored the 4,000 square feet interior boasts original woodwork including chair railing, random width pine flooring, 5 working fireplaces, a paneled library and a dining room with a magnificent crystal chandelier. Furnishings are antique and the rooms display a unique collection of paintings and antique decorative arts. Because of its' unique history and architecture the home is not only a part of the National Register Historic district in Milton, but listed separately by the Federal Government as well. We take great pride in our property as well as in the services we provide for our guests. Because we are small we provide a full service dining experience for breakfast rather than the usual "B&B bagel buffet." Staying at the Governor's Bed & Breakfast is truely a unique step back in history to a time when sharing breakfast with those we care about sets the tone for a brand new day.
