Angel Biscuits: Bread

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 3 tablespoon sugar

  • 3/4 cup shortening (Crisco)

  • 1 envelope dry yeast

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 2 cups water

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Step 1:

Sift together flour, soda, salt, baking powder, sugar & buttermilk powder. Cut in shortening until it achieves the texture of cornmeal.

Step 2:

Dissolve yeast in warm water. (1 T yeast, 1 t sugar in 1/2 C warm water)

Step 3:

Add yeast mixture and 2 C water to flour mixture, stirring with a large spoon until all dry ingredients are moistened.

Step 4:

Place in a covered container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Step 5:

Roll out on floured board to about 1/2" thickness. Cut into biscuit shapes. Bake on a cookie sheet at 400 degrees about 12 minutes. Makes 3 dozen scrumptious medium-sized biscuits.
