You can easily imagine the travelers on horseback and wagons stopping for the night during colonial times; and talking and playing games in front of the fire, as we did. The house is immaculate and furnished comfortably, according to the period. The innkeeper made us feel very much at ease, as if we were her personal guests. Breakfast, enjoyed next to the wood stove while watching the birds at the feeders, was blueberry pancakes accompanied by, among other things, maple syrup and apple butter made from her own trees.

When I called the Baird Tavern to make a reservation, hostess Carolyn Taylor boasted about her delicious breakfasts. She did not exaggerate. My husband and I spent a lovely weekend at this lovely house that still feels as if it exists in the late 18th century, when it was built. The first morning, we woke up to the smell of coffee and bacon, which lured us downstairs to the cozy kitchen, where we watched a variety of birds flutter around a nearby tree while eating wild blueberry pancakes. The second morning we had omelets made to order, with red peppers that had just roased in the oven. The food is not the only thing worth raving about -- the place is immaculate and charming, and Carolyn made us feel like we were visiting an old friend rather than staying at a B&B. This will be our go-to spot whenever we're in the Berkshires. We had a truly lovely time and highly recommend the Baird to anyone who wants a nice, quiet weekend in Western MA.

Once a post-road tavern with rooms above, the building is beautifully preserved in all detail. This place is especially attractive in cold weather, with a fine wood fire and a comfortable cozy and tasteful sitting room. Excellent breakfast. Don't miss it.

Serene and elegant. No teddy bear clutter. Furnished appropriately to the time it was built. Very charming and cozy. Excellent breakfast and the Innkeeper is also a delightful person. We highly recommend a stay here far away from crowds and noise.
