Carriage House Inn

  • Inn Details

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this stunning victorian sea captain's mansion has most recently been listed as "highly recommended" in Fodor's 2006 Maine Coast Guide. It has been showcased in Yankee Magazine, Historic Inns of the Northeast, and America's Painted Ladies. Built in 1874, the Inn was once home to legendary impressionist painter Waldo Peirce. Lifelong friends and portrait artist of Ernest Hemingway, who frequented the Inn, Peirce found his inspiration and refuge along the breathtaking shores of Penobscot Bay and in the quaint town of Searsport. Come stay in one of Maine's most photographed homes and find your own inspiration and refuge!

the craftsmenship that went into building this house are impressive even after all these years. it's quite solid. the inn is a good location to be away from it all yet near enough. for example, bar harbor is a short drive away. we enjoyed talking with marcia and her breakfasts.
