The Colonial Terrace

The Colonial Terrace is one block from Carmel Beach, one of the world's most beautiful beaches, a long cresent of white powder edged with pine and cypress trees. The inn's seven buildings are situated among beautiful garden terraces.

We liked our stay there. The rooms are small but most of the amenities are there. The service is correct. It is however a bit unpersonal. Still a good value for money in this area.

Leaving the windows open and hearing the ocean was the best part of our stay. Breakfast was just ok, coffee excellent, rooms / furnishings ok, parking off street, one block from the beach. I would stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here for our 5th anniversary. We absolutely loved it! We brought our 2 young boys (one is only a few months old and I'm not ready to leave them overnight). The inn was very clean, quiet, and cute. We also loved the staff.... read more

Never accept room #6. This $250/ night room is located next door to the maid service/employee quarters where loud chatter, banging doors, and service carts wake you up at 8 am. Don't bother to complain at the reception desk because every hotel... read more

Had an opportunity to get away for some R&R stay in Carmel. Express Air now has flights serving Monterey so you don't have to fly to San Jose and drive down. Had a comfortable Garden room with a nice King Bed. Stepped off the property onto... read more

It was just perfect for a relaxing weekend. Not too stuffy, not too homey. The staff was helpful and you could tell they really wanted to help you have a good time. We had a "garden" room but you could still see and hear the ocean... read more

Review The Colonial Terrace, Carmel, CA

Photo Album

This top floor suite is the only room at the top of these stairs. Privacy and comfort is what we strive to provide at The Colonial Terrace. This view is from the balcony that is just outside the french doors show in the photo of the Ocean View Room.
French doors lead to your own private balcony in this Ocean View Room.Standard Suite. View from living area in to bedroom.
The views are breathtaking. This view is from the living room area in one of our Standard Suites. Imagine wasting a day with a book next to this window as the ocean breezes gently rock the cypress trees just outside.....Our Ocean View Suites are well appointed, with comfort in mind.
Some of our Ocean View Suites offer Jacuzzi tubs. Go have an active day outdoors, take in the sunset at the beach, then return to your room and have a nice long soak in your Jacuzzi tub.A view of Carmel bay through the old Cypress trees from one of our Ocean View Suites. This view can be taken in while enjoying the relaxing sound of waves crashing, calls of seagulls, and perhaps an afternoon nap....
Some of our Courtyard rooms offer partial ocean views! Enjoy your morning paper and breakfast 'al fresco' just outside in the private courtyard. The view from the balcony that is outside rooms 7 and 8.
Our standard rooms offer quality amenities. Our Ocean View Rooms have truly dramatic views. To the right, world famous Pebble Beach Golf Links straddle the coastline; to the left, there are views of Carmel Point and Point Lobos.
Start your day with a sumptuous continental breakfast. Our award winning gardens are naturally filled with the sounds of crashing waves on Carmel Beach.
Enjoy views of residential Carmel by the Sea, as well as the ocean from the breakfast nook in our Colonial Suite.Being the closest hotel to Carmel Beach does have its benefits. One short block from this very bench.
Take a short 15 minute drive to Point Lobos and chances are good you may see this large mammal in the distance. Humpbacks and Grey Whales are frequently spotted just off the coast.Photos cannot do justice to our award-winning gardens.
The Monterey Peninsula is truly a gem. Local residents and tourists alike frequent the recreation trail that runs right along this very coastline.Old Cypress trees cling to the jagged coastline.
McWay falls in Big Sur is a wonderful hike. Your camera may not have too many chances to take in images like this, so bring a few extra rolls of film. The Big Sur Coastline is a haven for hikers, with many trails winding through this wonderful natural beauty. The sun sets over "Ghost Tree". Viewed from Carmel Beach. Ghost tree is home to some of the worlds largest surf.
BIG SUR. This is an amazing example of what many call the most dramatic meeting of land and sea in North America.A Carmel Beach sunset.....simply stunning.
