Applesauce Fruit Cake, a family X-Mas Tradition

Total preparation time:  2 hours
Serves:  10

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cloves
  • 2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups Applesauce
  • 1 cup Candied Fruit
  • 1 cup Golden Raisins
  • 1 cup Nuts (Pecans or Walnuts)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 Egg

Steps:

  1. Cream butter and sugar together.
  2. Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices. Leave 1/2 cup of this flour mixture to coat the nuts and fruits.
  3. Add egg, applesauce & vanilla to the creamed butter & sugar mixture.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to batter. Mix until well mixed. Add the nuts and fruits and stir until mixed.
  5. Grease and flour a bundt or angel food pan. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Pour mixture into pan. Bake at 325 for approximately 1-1/2 hours (depend on oven and pan chosen). Glaze with powdered sugar glaze or just dust with powdered sugar. Note; the fruit & nuts can be left out of this cake.
