General Information

"One of the Ten Most Romantic Inns in America," the popular McKay House welcomes you to Jefferson, Texas,a historic town where one can relax rather than get tired. In its heyday, Jefferson was a lusty Riverport Town, an overnight steamboat ride from New Orleans. In Jefferson, history still functions in pleasant ways that you will enjoy and relish. . . . . The McKay House, with its 1851 Greek Revival "high raised" cottage style, features a pillared front porch and seven fireplaces. Offering genuine Southern hospitality, this luxury Bed and Breakfast offers 5-star service. The Inn has been awarded both Sate and Federal historic markers. . . . . A full "Gentleman's" Breakfast is served in the Garden Conservatory, a classic treat, not soon forgotten -- with morning sun streaming through the stained glass windows. The long dining table is festive with delicious breakfast dishes such as Orange-Pecan French toast with side bacon, Shirred eggs with havarti cheese and ham, Strawberry cheese blintz, Yogurt and fruit parfait, and zucchini-pineapple-pecan muffins. Guests are invited to wear one of the Inn's classic Victorian hats to the elegant breakfast affair. The "sun-crested" fireplace in the Conservatory radiates a glow, as the aroma of fresh coffee wafts up the grand staircase. . . . . For lullaby sleeping, Victorian nightshirts and gowns await pampered guests in each bedchamber. Historic 2-room cottage across a garden bridge offers a romantic venue with wood burning fireplaces. Innkeeper and owners Becky and Hugh Lewis invite you to be our special guest and experience the romance and timeless values of the McKay House.
