Mont Rest

  • Inn Details

From the moment you walk through the door Mont Rest transports you back to a lost era of grace and beauty. This historic Inn is Iowa's most luxurious bed and breakfast. Built in 1893, Mont rest is nestled halfway up a 9 acre wooded bluff overlooking one of the most panoramic views of the mighty Mississippi River. Sit in a rocker on the front porch and watch eagles catch fish from the Mississippi. We're the perfect setting for a Honeymoon, Anniversary, or just a get away weekend, and are located near two of the largest gambling boats on the Mississippi.

This was my second stay at a Bed & Breakfast. The owner & staff couldn't have been anymore super in all that they did. Food, delicious! Yummmm The antiques, WOW! History of the place, unreal. I had a fun time celebrating with my friends my birthday & theirs! We all have the same birthdate. Just alittle difference in years... So, the three of us gals try to plan a birthday trip sometime in the Spring time because of the weather in Nov. when our real birthdays are. We had alot of laughs with the owner & staff. They work their fannies off for their guests. It's amazing how they make it all look effortless. Listening to the history of the home was very a delight to hear , from the owner who took time telling us about all the rebuilding, etc... and answered our endless questions. Our package deal was a girlfriends weekend pajama party. We also had a massage there. The gal had just the right touch in relaxing us. There was also a cooking class that was offered too that was fun. Garnishes that you make and eat also~ They showed us how to make Choc. Truffles~ OH double yummmm.... It was a fun activity, the massage relaxing, meals superb, and staff very personable. We went shopping in Galena, Ill. one day and then came back to the Bed & Breakfast to sleep in each of our own tastefully decorated bedrooms. Alot of charm at this place. I'd recommend it highly. They really work at making your stay great. Thanks gals~ Lynn (One of Sharon's friends who booked the place for us 3) Thanks also Natalie for sending my phone charger to me that I forgot to pack when leaving. You gals are special.

My husband and I just spent a wonderful get-a-way evening at Mont Rest. We participated in the Murder Mystery and had a great time. This was our first time at a B&B and we was both pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome we received (also the warm chocolate chip cookies awaiting our arrival were great). It is a relaxed environment with great views of the Mississippi River from the rooms. There was an overlook area on the roof that offered a hot tub with spectacular views of the valley and the Mississippi River. We met the other people who participated in the Murder Mystery over appetizers and drinks. As we learned of the characters we could play, Naomi helped us pick out our costumes for our roles, then adding props to accentuate our character we played, we all laughed and had fun all through the evening. The food was fantastic and all made on sight. The evening meal was made to order for each person . The deserts were outstanding. The morning breakfast was served family style - everything was delicious including the homemade pastries.. We can’t say enough about Chris, Owner/Chef, Naomi, Manager/vibrant & fun loving, & Brice, wait staff/quick & witty, and all the other behind the scenes persons who made this an enjoyable and relaxing stay.. Next time we will stay longer and enjoy more of the offerings of the Mont Rest B&B.

Our stay was nothing short of magical. This Bed and Breakfast sets a new standard from the personal attention to detail to making you appreciate history and nature with all the conveniences of this century. We've stayed at dozens and dozens of Bed and Breakfasts and Inns over the years and this one is light years ahead of the rest. The same owner (a bit of a character with great stories) has been running this establishment for over a quarter of a century . She and her staff are truly professionals at what they do and it shows . If you want to see breathtaking views, feel really welcome , have great food, this is the place for you. Best Wishes.PS Make sure you take your swimsuit to sit on top of the Inn looking at an unspoiled view of the Mississippi River. The beds were comfortable , the bed linens top drawer and the breakfast was the best I've ever had ANYWHERE EVER. Working fireplaces, Jacuzzi and oversized beds just begin to tell the story. Ham in a "clove reduction glaze" to the quiche to the homemade pastries to real Cappuccino it was great! Go stay there for a great experience. t

This grand place offers much more than one would expect from the location. (Bellevue is coming back but local attractions are limited) Though, sadly, the original mansion burned, the reconstructed facility preserved the historic character while also adding modern amenities. It's a fascinating building to explore, with lots of interesting decorative pieces and collections. The owner's stories are worth the lengthy presentation. Breakfast was truly gourmet. Can recommend without reservation.

I absolutely loved Mont Rest. The staff was so nice and accommodating. I have travel a lot and I have never received service like this. Naomi was super friendly and definitely helpful when we needed directions to get around the area. My boyfriend liked it too. I have always thought of bed and breakfast as something man just agree to go to to make us happy but he totally loved the place. The breakfast was superb. In all I had such a great time that I sent my parents to celebrate their 35th anniversary the following weekend!
