Sausage Chestnut Stuffing

My grandmother, who was a chef in Turin Italy , made this stuffing for us every Thanksgiving

Total preparation time:  30 min
Serves:  10

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup onion
  • 2 lb chestnuts
  • 4 slices italian bread
  • 1 lb bulk sausage
  • 1 liver from turkey
  • 1 lb fresh mushrooms

Steps:

  1. Saute sausage, remove from fat and chop
  2. Add chopped onion and mushroom to fat and saute until onions are clear and remove with a slotted spoon
  3. Saute chopped liver in the same fat and remove when cooked with slotted spoon
  4. Boil nuts until soft and remove from shell, chop and add nuts to diced bread along with all other ingredients
  5. Stuff turkey and cook as usual
